I wouldn't either, but that's what they pay over there for some fresh fruit and veggies. Katoot can tell you stories of the high cost of healthy living in Asia (even if he wasn't the one living healthy :thumbsup2).

Oh yeah, one can spend a lot at the grocery store buying very little. Maybe a pound of strawberries for about $8. A pound of beef for 10. A package of shredded cheese for 5. Yet you can get a 20 oz. bottle of Soju (a sort of rice vodka) for less than a buck. If you look around, though, you can find deals. For example, pizza. Domino's here is a little under twenty for a large pepperoni, but there's a chain called Pizza School that offers about the same size for only 5.

This might be crazy but it might just work:confused3

I was looking at the metel price charts, the price of copper right now is $4.06 per pound.

Pennies before 1982 are 95% copper, it takes 145 to make a pound, also they are still pretty easy to find since nobody is really hoarding them, now if you can get a good amount of pre 1982 pennies together, I'm sure a broker would probably give you double (figure $2.90 a pound)

I've always been pretty good with this kind of stuff, I think in the upcoming years there might be a penny meltdown (just like silver and gold):confused3, but even if there isn't it will still be worth face value:teacher: No lose situation:confused3

I've read investment advice on this before. They suggest buying/exchanging cash for $25 bricks of pennies from the bank; The rational is that a certain percentage will be pre 1982 and worth 2 cents a piece, and the ones that aren't are still 1 cent (obviously). If you're willing to take the time to separate and then turn around and sell the copper ones to a buyer, their could be a profit to be made. Would take a lot of time though...

Hmmmm... Never thought of this.. Over $4 a pound for copper? I guess the little ones picking up the pennies off the ground weren't doing a cute thing they were collecting their college tuition! I throw the pipes that I replace in my building right in the dumpster! Hmmmm.. Not doing that anymore.. Maybe I will buy a kiln... For pottery if course!

Oh well I guess you can still save them if you want, one day if there is a shortage of copper they might reverse it, since there is almost 30 years of new coins now :confused3

They really need to eliminate the penny anyway! Prices could easily be adjusted.

Awesome idea....

Unless something has changed since 1996, it's illegal to melt down pennies for profit. Doing so carries with it the possibility of a 5-year prison sentence and/or a $10,000 fine.

Here's an article from back when the anti-melt rule went into effect - http://www.usatoday.com/money/2006-12-14-melting-ban-usat_x.htm

Party Pooper...

Now why would that only apply to pennies & nickels and not Silver or Gold coins:confused3

Because the politicians want to melt down the silver and gold coins....:rotfl2:

Top of the morning gents :surfweb:

Got back last night from the world...man that is a long drive. I hope everyone is well.

Welcome to all the new Dad's (if there are any)

I look forward to catching up on what I missed.

Morning all...been off a couple of days, no internet. Going to be a busy one this weekend, seeing it's a long weekend, we already saw a $9000 :scared1: order go through yesterday.

Fair warning, I am unexplicably grouchy this morning. Short fuse=overly snarky comments. I apologize in advance. I have no idea why, it's just a "Stare Daggers at Everybody" sort of day. :headache:

Oh beverly, that's me any day of the week at work!:lmao:. I've had a fair sized chip on my shoulder since last Saturday, and come to think of it, when I am in a good mood, I still give snarky comments:confused3.

Just saw on the news, they are predicting a busy Hurricane season for the Atlantic, this is something I don't want to hear since our next trip to WDW is in the middle of the season:scared1:

Gotta batten down the hatches!

Thanks AJ. I thought there was something about intentionally destroying U.S. Currency.
Just so I know, when will the newest podcast likely be posted?

‘Morning all…
I got busy yesterday afternoon and last night so I missed out on all the grand philosophical conversations. It's probably a bit too late but I’ll way in on the “safer” topics.

Cars: We own two Nissons. An 04 Altima V6 and a 98 Maxima V6. They're far and away the best vehicles I’ve ever owned (and the V6s insure that you have enough power to save you fanny when necessary). I drive the older one and at over 170,000 miles, it’s still my favorite care to drive. The 04 it the one we use for longer trips. It just turned over 100,000k and still runs like a new car. Both are paid for and I ain’t planning of replacing either any time soon.

Hurricanes: La Nina will definitely have an effect on the season this year. We’ll be down in Fla in June. Hopefully that will be before the big storms really get a chance to start forming. It’s been a while since any of the larger storms have made land fall on the Ga/SC coast and we’re (historically speaking) due, so I’ll be watching the weather patterns forming of the Cape Verde Islands fairly close this summer and autumn.

Coins for scrap: Between the law on pennies & nickels and the fairly low return per hour wage, I think I’ll keep telling my young’en to mow lawns. The hourly return is better (of course he could always work up at Carowinds).

Soooooo…
What’s the topic of discussion for today?

Morning all -

Checking in before heading off to MANcation for the weekend. Meeting up with a bunch of old college buddies at a cabin a couple hours away to sit around a fire, have a few (read: several) adult beverages, eat meat, and reminisce/make fun of each other. It started out as a fishing trip so we had an excuse for the missuses, but now we don't even take our gear.

Cheers to you all, and if the interwebs are still working on Sunday, I'll see you then.

Certainly beats cleaning out the garage as a choice for weekend activities. :thumbsup2
Make sure you have entirely too much fun and we’ll see you when you get back.

I have 2 camping trips. One in October, and one in January. But, the DW insists I get my weekend work done before I leave, 'cause she knows I won't do it when I get home Sunday. So, I take the Friday as a vacation day to work on the house before heading out on my camping vacation....
But once the :drinking1 starts... you stop caring how you got there, and only care THAT you're there.

Morning all... Another rainy day up here in New England. Hope y'all are having some better weather than us!

DW's birthday was yesterday, and she loved the filing cabinet thank you very much (though I think she liked the lego set more). Of course, she did have to be a pain as well. I told her I was going to order Papa Murphy's pizzas for us for dinner. So I did that afternoon. Not 20 minutes later, I get a text "DD and I are going to go out for dinner with my coworker, she's treating me for my birthday!" Apparently, she forgot to tell me off this prior plan. Did not help my mood yesterday to say the least.

But it's Friday, I don't have to work at all this weekend, so today is bound to be better, right?

RIGHT????
