There was a story about this phenomenon on NPR this am (marketplace tech, I think). The concept on Internet friendships, not email scams.

Anyway, they were quoting studies talking about how on-line friendships (via social network sites like thus one or FB) can create stronger relationships and friendships than you might expect. So despite "convententional wisdom" & concern that the on-line world hurts social interaction, people actually seem to open up more & build stronger relationships than they would in the "real world". Personally, I still think we need both & I really enjoy meeting you guys, but it reinforced my belief that these relationships are important & valuable.

Good Night guys!

Thats interesting. I agree with the need for personal "real world" interaction too, but the point is a real good one.

:thumbsup2

I'm going to need to setup a savings fund for you guys.

Or just win the Lottery.

Here's my promise - if (when) I win the lottery (must be greater then $2,000,000) - I will buy a DISdad (through a careful selection process) a DVC membership.

Oh, and our lotteries, here in Canada - are 100% tax free.

I asked for finacial assistance first!! Me me me me!!:rotfl2:

Really? That's terrific... Here in the US we get hammered with taxes and present value calculations on any major prizes... However, it isn't a problem I've ever had the pleasure of dealing with...

I think that this is true because by opening up here you get to know the actual person instead of the outward person. I have enjoyed every minute of it and look forward to checking in with you guys daily here and on facebook!...part of my routine:thumbsup2

On a Cool note for the day:woohoo: Paid off WDW trip through AAA, got some of the perks before I left (child's WDW luggage worth 139.99, wheels light up, I wouldn't pay that much for it but I'll take it for free:goodvibes) when I check in there should be a $25 GC for us plus the booklet with AAA storytime & AAA Diamond parking pass:yay:

Figure if I'm going to pay the same price as I would if I booked through Disney, I might as well get everything I can:lmao: AAA matches everything WDW does (got the kids play, eat & stay for free deal) plus all the extras, but with a AAA store less then 2 miles away for me it would be foolish to book directly:confused3

well, to quote the three time super bowl champion troy aikman, (for you eagle fans, the super bowl decides the nfl champion every year :lmao:) (i couldnt leave with out pickin on mark :lmao:) IM GOIN TO DISNEY WORLD!!!
thanks for the well wishes and the texts, ill send pictures!!! hopefully talk to you guys sunday!!!! see ya!!!!:thumbsup2

I'll send up smoke signals when I get to our hotel for the night. We'll see you guys in one of the parks one day next week.

Good morning all, hope everyone's gearing up for the weekend....

Next time I go to the store, I'll pick one up and send you the info on it, looked like there were about 20 packets and the cost was $14.99:woohoo:

So we'd sell it for what, $40-50...there are days government regulated prices are not fun.

Not to nitpick, but the exchange rate is actually inverted right now (C$ > US$)
This is why I was in such a panic to pay the trip off before things balanced themselves out again....it was nice actually SAVING money booking the trip. Just hope things stay good, we still need the spending money converted.

I'm going to need to setup a savings fund for you guys.

Or just win the Lottery.

Oh, and our lotteries, here in Canada - are 100% tax free.

Got to remember to pick up my Lotto Max tonight.

Wow...free luggage? Man, that knocks the CAA out of the park, which sucks, seeing it basicly the SAME COMPANY:rotfl2: We get the Storytime and parking pass, and the discount booklet, some luggage tags, and that's about it. Way back in '03, we got a plush Mickey, and Seaworld passes at Par (when the dollar wasn't so good). But I agree with the sentiment, it's so worth booking through them. Our TA is really good too, and always looks after us well, and helped get me the best deal available.

Well....gotta get DD1 to school, and off to work....people need their beer! Stat!

Just to clearify - I may be knitpicking here... But Disney World in fact is NOT the Happiest Place on Earth.

Dinseyland is "The Happiest Place on Earth"

Disney World is "The Most Magical Place on Earth"
To me, I'm happiest when I'm in Disney World, therefore, Disney World is the happiest place on Earth, and the most magical place on Earth. I really don't care what the official stance is on it.:confused3

Twizzlers are great. Ever remove the ends and use it as a straw to drink beer?
Why yes, yes I have. :thumbsup2

I saw the greatest man invention ever made at the liquor store today:confused3

It was a bag of shots in little plastic packs like condiments come in :cool1:I saw vodka and rum:cool1: Next trip just got a whole lot cheaper, just add coke:lmao::goodvibes
That should be added to that 101 greatest gadgets show that was on the other night! :thumbsup2

Next time I go to the store, I'll pick one up and send you the info on it, looked like there were about 20 packets and the cost was $14.99:woohoo:
Not bad. Exactly what is the volume in the packets though? Is it a full shot?
Are they just sold as 20 packets of rum or 20 packets of vodka, or do they have one that is maybe 10 packets vodka/10 packets rum?

I'm going to need to setup a savings fund for you guys.

This post has now been bookmarked for future reference. :thumbsup2

Yeah, I always make it a point to get on here whenever I can just to see what's going on. Always a lot of fun (and sometimes meaningful:lmao:) conversations going on around here.

Yep, I do the same. I feel bad for not using any of the DIS Dad's TA's, but I do like the perks I get from AAA (and our trip was booked before I knew any of us were TA's anyway). I still make my own ADR's, but I had a change I wanted to make to our reservation a couple of weeks ago and it was great because all I had to do was take about 30 seconds to send an e-mail to my TA and she took care of it for me. No sitting on the phone with a CM!:woohoo:

Where else but here would it even occur to someone to consider such a thing? At first, I wondered what quality of beverage these might be considering the delivery medium, but then I considered the delivery medium and decided that quality wasn’t the point. Actually, these would be useful to folks heading out on a cruise (such as myself now that I think of it). DCL is just about the only line that doesn’t care if you carry alcohol onto the ship for personal consumption (just so long as you carry it on board your self and are responsible for it), but these little gems would make it easier to lower you drink tab on the other lines as well.
:drinking1

To be honest, I noticed that as well. I knew it wasn't legit...just thought I'd share this in case anyone else did get it.

But I did send him $1800... :rotfl2:

...Note to self...send e-mail to Twokids requesting money......:rotfl2:

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

(on a side note… I hate, hate HATE… hackers, scamers & spamers… Aaaaaarrrrrrrrggggg!!! :headache:)

OK, I feel better now. :)

Good Night guys!

I think it depends somewhat on the venue. There are a lot of folks on The Dis for example and mostly the conversation is innocuous and related to fairly narrow subject matter. You can learn a little about folks, but there is a lot of room for masks and subterfuge in relation to personality & intention, but… There are some parts of the board like the DDC (and some of the other regular clubs and groups like DVC members and the like), where we actually get to know folks. Honestly, I think the this forum in particular provides a lot of opportunities for us to interact because there is not real subject. We talk about what ever is on our mind. As such, there is far more opportunity to see each other more as a whole person (even though it’s only in print) and I for one am glad to be here. :goodvibes

Score!!! :thumbsup2 <---thumb
Of course, we’ve come to expect no less for one our groups master planners.

Good morning all, hope everyone's gearing up for the weekend....

....people need their beer! Stat!

Yes… Yes they do…

I’m certainly gearing up for the weekend. Busy days ahead. I’ve got a festival gig to play tonight, a rehearsal tomorrow followed by some volunteer concession stand work at a minor league game in the evening. Our band is working the contemporary service Sunday morning and then it’s off to the in-laws so for supper and some interaction amongst the sisters. Somewhere in all that I need to finish up the final organization details for our trip and maybe work on the current TR a bit (BTW: there are new TR updates this morning for those that are following along).

“Busy… Busy… Busy…”

Hey guys... it's been a while since I've been on here. I have had absolutely NO TIME in the past two weeks. I just wanted to pop in quickly and say hi... :wave2: Nearly every day for the past 2 weeks I have been busy, busy, busy all day long - not getting to bed til 1 or 2am, and up again at 7 to start all over again. It's been crazy.

With my wife being gone for 10 days to spend time with her dad... and my grandmother dying... and getting ready to storm the beaches of Normandy (not quite, but it sure feels like it as our Scout Troop prepares to move out Sunday morning for a week in Summer Camp) - I have been absolutely swamped with stuff and my available time for this kind of fun has been less than nil. But I will be back around when we return from the woods and a fun-filled week in camp. I see we'll be into version 11 even before I leave on Sunday!

As you may or may not recall I am the Summer Camp Director for our Troop. We are the oldest Troop in the state, the 2nd largest Troop in the state (142 active boys and 98 active adult leaders), and the largest Troop contingent in camp during any of the 9 weeks they operate. My numbers for camp this year are up 18% on the Scout side and 39% on the Adult side... this year I'm taking 91 Scouts and 39 Adults to Summer Camp. Planning, coordinating and directing is a massive undertaking... I might as well be adding an attraction or two to Fantasyland! My leader staff that help me out as I direct this fun has grown this year as well, up 16%. What a great group I have to work with.

I did get my ticket the other day for my trip west for my grandmother's memorial service. It will be in mid-July. She was laid to rest this past Saturday with no fanfare at all, just a quiet burial. But family from all around the country are planning to be there - so that will be nice to see aunts & uncles, cousins, my brother, my dad... my mom has decided not to attend, since she just feels way too strange around my dad... they've been divorced and both remarried to others for the past 15-16 years... so despite the 25 years she spent as my grandma's DIL, and the 4+ years before that that she spent over at my grandma's house (my dad's sister and my mom were best friends in high school... ) she feels kind of out of place. Both my brother and I, along with a couple of our aunts and my uncle all told her she should come and celebrate with us... but she's holding firm. Oh well.

Anyway - enough - I have a ton of work to get done today before I head out for a week of not-so-relaxing-but-sure-to-be-a-blast-regardless vacation days in the woods. This is my hands-down favorite Scouting activity all-year. I can't wait. I'm almost as giddy as when I'm close to heading to Disneyland or Walt Disney World... :yay:

Have a great day guys, and have fun closing out this thread. See ya in a little over a week.

My sweet wife returned home from California very late Wednesday night (really Thursday morning) and then I was off yesterday to a customer meeting in central Ohio, but back home again before the kids went to bed.

Oh and my personal email was hacked on Sunday night... claiming I was in London, mugged, stranded... blah blah blah... same scam I've seen so many times before. Idiot hackers... so add that fun to my list of "no time" too. Oh well... "life's a beach" as my aunt says... you just have to roll with the tide sometimes.

Have a great day guys!

Good to here form you. Once again, condolences for you recent loss and we’re all keeping your FIL in mind. Take care of yourself, enjoy the camp time and we’ll expect a full report once everything calms back down.

Great to hear from you Stopher! Have a great time at camp and hopefully life at a more stable pace can resume for you after you return home.

Welcome back, Christopher! Thanks for the update. Enjoy your camp week! I am very impressed & a bit envious of your troops adult committment. 39 parents?! Amazing.
