My co-worker (who is also my BIL) is known as ThunderButt and has this thing where he'll plant his butt flush on the hollow door to my office and rattle one off....It's quite loud and obnoxious.![]()
...or clog an American Standard®
Post #500!
That is definitely one of things that we talk about within the Troop. Life is filled with many great opportunities - some of which you only get once. Achieving Eagle is one of them, that once lost will never return. Our Scoutmaster is an Eagle, and loves to talk about "once an Eagle - always an Eagle" to try and inspire the guys. Living life without regrets for not achiving something special because something "better" comes along. He tells them all about how he too got sucked in to the sports and girls vortex at 16 - but how he saw what was happening at 17 and was able to pull it off in the end, barely - before he turned 18. He had worked hard up until he was 16 to get as much done as possible and realized he wanted to finish what he'd begun. And then goes on to encourage them not to be like him, but rather to get it done before that sports and girls vortex consumes them in the first place.
I can't speak for other parts of the country, but here in Indiana, the BSA is still thought of very highly, and those Scouts from our Troop who are Eagles all got better scholarship packages and the like for their schools of choice then their non-Eagle buddies with similar backgrounds / GPA's, etc who went to the same colleges. That is a big incentive for us and our boys. Pick the activity you really want to do, run with it and be the best you can be. Put together the best possible resume of well-rounded activities and then hopefully, those scholarship offers will come knocking.
No, it's from the kids.Besides, Barry's photo album of his kids is a much better idea. So I'm going to get a copy of it for my wife, since she thinks his kids are cute.

Lots of discussion on scouts here today. Thought I'd post this pic of my son, Dan, and I in our uniforms. Dan's actually going to be featured in a medical magazine this summer because of a anti-smoking program he worked on for the scouts. This is the photo that goes with the article. Hopefully, our uniforms are up to code!

Both of those sound awesome! Feel free to post pictures!Speaking of scouts, my oldest is a Cub Scout and has a couple of really cool trips available to him this summer.
The one that he's most excited about is spending a night on the USS Alabama Battleship.
The one I'm most excited about is a trip to Minute Maid Park to watch the Astros-Braves (Go Braves!) and get a chance to tour the ballpark and be on the field for batting practice.![]()
