OK...since we've gone there....

My co-worker (who is also my BIL) is known as ThunderButt and has this thing where he'll plant his butt flush on the hollow door to my office and rattle one off....It's quite loud and obnoxious. :rotfl2:
:lmao:

Congrats, Ian!

That is definitely one of things that we talk about within the Troop. Life is filled with many great opportunities - some of which you only get once. Achieving Eagle is one of them, that once lost will never return. Our Scoutmaster is an Eagle, and loves to talk about "once an Eagle - always an Eagle" to try and inspire the guys. Living life without regrets for not achiving something special because something "better" comes along. He tells them all about how he too got sucked in to the sports and girls vortex at 16 - but how he saw what was happening at 17 and was able to pull it off in the end, barely - before he turned 18. He had worked hard up until he was 16 to get as much done as possible and realized he wanted to finish what he'd begun. And then goes on to encourage them not to be like him, but rather to get it done before that sports and girls vortex consumes them in the first place.

I can't speak for other parts of the country, but here in Indiana, the BSA is still thought of very highly, and those Scouts from our Troop who are Eagles all got better scholarship packages and the like for their schools of choice then their non-Eagle buddies with similar backgrounds / GPA's, etc who went to the same colleges. That is a big incentive for us and our boys. Pick the activity you really want to do, run with it and be the best you can be. Put together the best possible resume of well-rounded activities and then hopefully, those scholarship offers will come knocking.

Nicely put. :thumbsup2

No, it's from the kids. ;) Besides, Barry's photo album of his kids is a much better idea. So I'm going to get a copy of it for my wife, since she thinks his kids are cute. :thumbsup2

What could possibly go wrong with that? :confused3
You know where we live, the couch is open.

Lots of discussion on scouts here today. Thought I'd post this pic of my son, Dan, and I in our uniforms. Dan's actually going to be featured in a medical magazine this summer because of a anti-smoking program he worked on for the scouts. This is the photo that goes with the article. Hopefully, our uniforms are up to code!

Speaking of scouts, my oldest is a Cub Scout and has a couple of really cool trips available to him this summer.

The one that he's most excited about is spending a night on the USS Alabama Battleship. :thumbsup2

The one I'm most excited about is a trip to Minute Maid Park to watch the Astros-Braves (Go Braves!) and get a chance to tour the ballpark and be on the field for batting practice. :yay::yay::yay:

It's the excellence brewing :thumbsup2

Both of those sound awesome! Feel free to post pictures!

I was texting with Carl today about the zoo trip. Trying to figure out pros & cons of Sat or Sun, May or June nomatter what day or month not everyone is going to be able to make it:headache:

Sundays are probably the better day, since some guys work, kids sporting events, weddings etc, seem to fall on Sats:confused3

Zoo is open to 5pm everyday.

Got 2 dates to throw out there to see if one of them will work
June 5th or June 12th

If these won't work for alot of Dads we can go back to the drawing board, but we would like to have something solid soon so everyone has time to make any arrangements they need to make:cool1:

Chris- great pic, sounds like a great young man!

Bunch24- our pack recently did an overnight at the USS Alabama. We were not able to make it, but those that did had a blast.

Here is my oldest DS and me at a recent campout.

Okay, so let me get this straight. I requested membership last night on page 147, was accepted on page 152 and we're now on page 164 less than 24 hours after my request?

Alrighty then, it's commando disboards. :worship: I'll fasten my seat restraint and keep my arms and legs inside the vehicle at all times. Let the party continue. I'm arranging for my #582 tattoo now. Thanks for allowing me to hang out with you fellers.

OK… If I read this right, from the time I had to actually get to work up to now, We started with a request for pictures of the result of consuming out of date mayonnaise, progressed up to more satisfying actual pictures of bacon and tea, ascended to the lofty and truly admirable heights of Scouting and Young Marines and them descended back down to the concepts of clogged toilets and “Thunderbutt”.

Do I have that right?

Is this thread awesome or what…
:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Now then… Back to our regularly scheduled post.

And it’s time for a little bit more. Very cool picture Chris :thumbsup2
I had the opportunity to lead a group of cubs through their year as Bears and then through two years of Webelos. It was a lot of work, but absolutely worth it. I was a scout in my early youth. Nowhere near as successful at it as the folks in this afternoon’s discussion, but it certainly had a major effect on who I am. As such I was quit proud to work with the younger kids as my son was working his way up through the Cub program. After all of my second years successfully completed their Arrow of Light (the only Cub award that you can take with you on up into Scouts) we held the crossing over ceremony underneath a massive old oak tree (rather fitting I thought). Afterward, the boys who had just crossed over presented me with a thank you present of a pocket watch. I was not expecting that at all and to this day it is on of my most prized possessions.

My son and I got to do a similar summer outing. We did an overnight aboard the USS Yorktown in Charleston harbor. We bunked in what was junior officer country in a spot just below the flight deck, took meals out of one of the enlisted men mess rooms, worked through a scavenger hunt that took us all over every ship at Patriots Point, traveled out into the harbor to tour Fort Sumter, had a great evening of songs, stories and movies in the ships theater before bed and turned in for the night. My boy saw and learned much and it a fabulous memory for both my son and me. If you ever have a similar opportunity… Take it.

Great shot. :thumbsup2 I’d post one of my boy and me, but their all on old fashioned film stock and we haven’t scanned them in yet.
