DIS Dads...I'm taking all weight loss tips! :confused3

There are only two things for weight loss that really work long term:
1) Eat fewer calories
2) Move more

Of course, I know how to do it, but I'm awful about following those rules. I like to eat and I'm lazy. What am I going to do?

As for eating fewer calories, the three most important tips I know of are:
a) Eating fewer calories doesn't have to mean eating less food and feeling hungry. It just means substituting things like fresh vegetables for potato chips and water (perhaps with a sugar-free flavoring added) for soda. Eat bulk, which will help you feel full, even while consuming fewer calories.
b) Make/Take the time to plan meals. The unhealthiest meals tend to be the ones we grab on the run. Plan it out, think ahead, shop and prepare so that the healthy stuff is as ready to eat as that tub of cheese balls.
c) Control portion size. You don't have to give up on steaks. You just need to eat a more reasonable portion. Skip the porterhouse. The proper portion size for most proteins (as a rule of thumb) is about the size of your palm. Anything more than that, either don't put it on your plate or leave it there and don't pick at it.

Best tips for moving more:
a) Just about any movement that burns calories counts. It doesn't have to mean jogging five miles/day.
b) Make sure you exercise your whole body. If you only do one kind of exercising, your body will adjust and the rate at which you burn calories while doing that exercise will drop. Mix it up - walk or run, swim, play some pickup basketball (full court is better than half court), follow along with an exercise video (but only if you actually get out of the recliner and do the exercises)
c) Mix in light to moderate weight training. Weightlifting has interesting effects on weight loss efforts. When you lift weights, your muscles continue to burn calories even after you've stopped the actual exercise. If you mix weightlifting (and it doesn't need to be "bulk me up" lifting) in with cardio work, you'll lose weight much faster.

Just finished drafting an opposition to Partial Summary Judgment filed by opposing counsel, as well as a Cross-Motion for Partial Summary Judgment in my favor in the case. We're sending it in tomorrow. I really hope the judge doesn't wimp out and rules on this quickly. I'd like to not have to be worrying about this case while we're on our WDW trip (trial is scheduled for not quite two weeks after we return), AND if I don't have to go to trial, I won't have to miss The Bug's Halloween performance at school.

Isn't that the truth. I typically make a commitment to change my habits and do that about every 6 months or so until I get a busy week or so and just don't have time and put it off... The jeans are starting to feel a little snug, so I guess it is about time to start the commitment to fitness once again. At least it is getting to the time of year where I'll soon be playing basketball 2 nights a week with mostly high school and college age guys so that will force me to get back (kind of) into shape unless I want to carry oxygen tanks to the gym with me.

:welcome:

Emma's Dad should be around to hand out your number soon!

Hey Fed, got time to send some Dancing Federalies?

Thanks for the welcome and look forward to meeting some of you. Hopefully on the podcast 2.0 cruise.

yes that would be the same airport LOL :rotfl2: I hate flying in and out of there but if it has the best rate I will do it LOL smoking or not LOL

Hey Herd,

I was watching one of the morning shows this morning and they had a segment about which days of the week are the best to purchase various items, and they indicated that Wed is the best day for airfare. Apparently everyone in the industry does something on Sundays, then the start interpreting the results on Wednedsays, and thats when they start discounting things. Hopefully you just need to hold out for a couple more days to get some better airfares.

Marty

Is the Cincinnati airport the one that's in Kentucky? If its the one I'm thinking of, The bartender looked at her and said "honey, you're in Kentucky, we encourage smoking here". The look on the woman's face was great.:lmao::lmao:

And, to add one more for KY, there is a campaign to legalize marijuana and tax it. Tobacco farming is really hard work, and many farmers had to change crops already - what's one more.

Did Dads...I'm taking all weight loss tips!!! :confused3

Can't help you at all because I am still searching. Eat/drink less and hire a personal trainer. But, I choose not to eat/drink less and I don't want to exercise.

Hey Marty thanks for the info...I will be checking things out on Wednesday for sure now!!!

One of my co workers actually volunteered to take my call tonight so I jumped at the chance to come home and tuck the kids in and sleep in my own bed!!! Ahh it is the little things in life I guess LOL.

Interesting first Sunday in the DIS Dads Fantasy Football League. There are still two NFL games tomorrow, but right now, Jasmine's Necklace and the Small World Singers are really taking their opponents to the woodshed. :woohoo:

By the way, the logo for the Small World Singers is Ogie Oglethorpe from Slapshot. What that has to do with Small World, I have no idea. :confused3

Some games are still up for grabs and Monday night will be key.

Good luck,

ClearScreen

Sorry about the Ogie avatar, I use this for my other fantasy games (under the team name Canada's Refusal). I'm not sure how to change, but I thought that he could pass for a small world singer.

Got the call last night around midnight from Seattle that my wife's grandmother passed away. Can you say ROADTRIP? We head out today driving from Denver to Seattle. Funeral is on Thursday then the bro in law and I will be driving a U-haul back from there. So Ill give a preemptive CRUD until I check back in next weekend. Disdad's have a great week!!!

Sorry to hear about this. You'll be in our thought and prayers.

OK...DIS Dad Meet version 2...with slightly less stupid looking me...and my Nemisis...Hope he didn't find that kick me sign I put on his back pack... :lmao:

Photoshop is a great tool isn't it? :rotfl2:

And by the way...

Safe travels to Fed this week! :cool1:

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Definitely Ditto to this. Fed, get state-side quickly and safe.

If the Judges by you are anything like some Judges in New York, you'll be lucky to have a decision by December...December 2011.

You will appreciate this, even though we are sworn enemies. I had a trial scheduled for August 2. The Trial Assignment Judge is a notorious pain. When I got the date, I immediately called and faxed a letter stating that I had a family trip planned (to Disneyworld) which had been booked months before. I asked if we could adjourn the trial til mid-September - opposing counsel agreed. His clerk called and asked when I would return to the office. I told her August 16th. The Judge scheduled the trial for 2 weeks later - August 30th. I come back from Disney and immediately start preparing like crazy. I show up on August 30 ready to go (exhibits ready, witnesses scheduled, experts paid, etc.) and the Judge is on vacation, there are no other Judges available(because it is the last week of the summer!!) and the Court has to put the trial over til October. Defense counsel and I settled it 3 days later. Everyone had enough.

Yeah, we have some REALLY slow judges. A co-worker and I tried a huge case over a year ago. 17 days of trial. Post-trial brief was 110 pages long. Final briefing was completed the first week in February 2010. We're at seven months now waiting for a decision.

The big problem with these cases is that they're tried before Administrative Law Judges. They have a bad habit of taking these motions and setting a motion hearing for the opening of trial - which pretty much ruins the entire concept of summary judgment. This one was filed with a new judge, and no one in our office has any idea how she'll approach this. If she indicates that she's going to hold a decision on the motion for trial, it means I've got to get a trip scheduled to go and depose an "expert" and prepare for trial -- travel and a deposition that will be completely wasted if she rules in my favor on Summary Judgment. Ugh.

Any of the DDC FF players watch "The League"?

I have a sense that I could have a Ruxin experience. Up almost 40 points going into Monday night and Antonio Gate is going to $%%^ me.

I never remember when it's on. All my buds tell me to check it out. I have to DVR it.

Congrats on the DisDads fantasy football opening win. Shon Greene really let me down tonight (and Flacco too, though he wasn't quite as bad as Greene).

Thanks. I think you'll be OK as the season goes on. No real holes on your team. Why on earth isn't Jamaal Charles starting over Thomas Jones? He just left San Diego flatfooted watching him run past.

I have no idea anymore when anything actually airs. TiVo tells me what is available to watch. :rotfl2:

No kidding. :car:
Charles left them in the dust.

Thanks. I do think I'll be OK. I had some first week matchup issues and Greene's play does concern me. But I should bounce back.

As for the Chiefs, Charles has had some difficulties holding onto the ball. I think the idea is to have Jones absorb/dish out punishment, and then bring in a fresh Charles. That way, they maximize the value of each of Charles' carries, and reduce the opportunities for him to put the ball on the ground.

They definitely got value out of Charles on that play.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Jones fan from when he was in Chicago. Always thought we should have kept him over Cedric Benson... oh well.
