If you were going 80 mph on any of those interstates in SC, GA or FL, you were getting passed like you were standing still...:scared1::lmao:

You passed within 4 miles of my house at Exit 1 on 95 in Georgia (Saint Mary's Road)

You have got that right, I thought I drove fast in Canada but you are nuts.:lmao: I actually said to my wife, that you probably live some where around there when we drove through.

Riiiiight. If tutter is the kid in small world beating the dog with boomerang, you've got to be the alligator with the pink umbrella.:rotfl2:

I used my 1,000th post to say some similar things. But I believe, sir, that you have put it so much better than I did. "You use your tonge prettier than..." (the rest of that quote is not family friendly, so if anyone isn't familiar with it, you'll have to Google it to get the rest.)

On a related note - the card that DS3 got me for Father's Day was one of those talking cards with a little speaker in it. It was a Transformers card, and whenever I opened it, Optimus Prime goes on and on about how great of a father I am and how the Universe needs more father's like me. For some reason, this went to my head and DW had to take the card away because I was opening it too much. :thumbsup2

My theory - he wasn't wearing a shirt. He had that tattooed on.

Welcome back! Now fire up the griddle - there's a whole mess of hungry people in Canada!

Welcome back glad to hear you had a good drive, we are about to embark on out first driving adventure as well. Looking forward to it.

I've only driven, and having the car was great. Strangers asking where we found Chik-fil-a was funny to me. From the ST.L to WDW it's about 15 1/2 hours. Generally, we do a Pseudo-commando style. Leave at 11 p.m. and I drive while the kiddos sleep. Then around 6 or 7 am, we switch drivers. And while we don't drive straight to the parks, but we drive straight there, stay someplace about an hour away, then get there to have a full day at the parks. Having the car is nice, plus the DW doesn't like to fly. Finally, now that we're a family of 6, Flying isn't really going to be economical. Still, though, the DW saved us about an hour the way she drives. :scared1:

Welcome back Daddy-O! Glad you guys had a great time. And I'm also glad to see you're discovering the joy of road trips! :thumbsup2

Of course, I say that as we're flying down to WDW next week.

Thanks, Barry. I wonder where I got the idea to use my 1,000 post to reflect on the Dads Club? :confused3

Ahhh...Blazing Saddles...

That card sounds awesome. I must demand this card next Father's Day.

:woohoo::cool1: Congrats!

Dude, don't hate on the desk job folk. I don't want you going out and giving the impression that people like me who sit behind a desk are lazy, out-of-shape slobs who shirk their duties to post on the DIS boards all day and--

Oh.

:headache:

Thanks for all the welcome backs guys. We got right back into it at the restaurant.

I don't want to rehash the entire podcast thing but I wanted to throw my two cents in. I have listened to the podcast for two years now and really enjoy it. Most of the men on the podcast are openly gay and were just trying to have a conversation on the differences. I agree that they missed most of what goes on here but I am sure they meant no disrespect. For those of you who have never listened to the show, you should give it a listen.

DIS Dads...I'm taking all weight loss tips! :confused3

The only tip I can give you is what I did and lost around 70 pounds. I basically cut all the sugar including natural sugars outs of my diet. I walked everyday and drank tons of water. 8 months later a new me.

Oh ya...I am doing all this on my new iPad!!!! Can I just say I love this thing!!!!!!!

I think Nate's camera was held by the nice young female CM, and mine was held by the cranky old man CM who didn't quite seem familiar with how a camera works.

You'd think the ability to use a friggin digital camera might be a prerequisite for working in FUTUREWORLD!!!!!

Did Dads...I'm taking all weight loss tips!!! :confused3
About to try and get back on track myself. I would definitely say you need to set a goal, sign up for a 5K, with someone else if possible.

There are only two things for weight loss that really work long term:
1) Eat fewer calories
2) Move more

I lost 10 lbs. over a month by cutting portion sizes and running about a mile/mile and a half every day. But after that month, I remembered that running sucks, so I stopped and gained it all back.

I keep trying to start exercising, but I haven't found a way to make it enjoyable, and I seem to keep falling off the wagon. Any of you guys found a way to stay with it? Part of the problem is that I have this philosophy about exercise that if you can't score points, then it isn't worth doing.

Digital cameras are yesterdays news. His training is in cloning and 3 Dimensional holographic imaging.

That is basically the EXACT same problem I have. I usually do pretty good from about October - March by playing a lot of basketball... that way I run a lot, but I acutally enjoy it. It is the rest of the year that I just don't care or have the motivation.

We've got an Elliptical machine, and I actually enjoy using it. I used to try to pry myself out of bed in the morning, and get a good workout on it for a half hour and then lift some weights while I watched the morning news or Sportscenter... but with an 8 month old in the house, I typically change a diaper and feed him breakfast during that time instead. I've considered getting up an extra half hour or so earlier:scared1::scared1::scared1: We all know that ain't gonna happen though:rotfl2:.

Did you guys say weight loss??? I'm a certified Personal Trainer... I can help!!!!

I think that is my problem. I'm getting tired of the exercise bike and jogging. I guess I'll have to cut portion sizes :sad2: and stop eating sugar and do the common sense stuff.

OK... I know this might go over like a cinderblock tied to an ankle (no offense to any Jersey Dads) but maybe we can set up a page on either FB or disdasds.com with our weight loss goals and track our progress. Then we can compare to others dads and make it like a game... I know most of us need something or someone to compete against.

Something like:

Our name
Current weight
Body fat (don't know if anyone has easy access to this info)
Desired weight
Exercise routine?
Eating habbits?
What we want to accomplish?
Daily updates... if you fell off the wagon?
Weekly weigh ins
ETC......

It is just a thought. I've been trying to get back to the gym but it seems every day is something. :rolleyes1:rolleyes1

I agree! I was thinking the same thing, but Tim beat me too it. I guess that what a nemesis is for, though. :confused3
A friendly competition may be enough motivation for some us (including me) to get back on the wagon.
Not all of us are on Facebook, so maybe we could set up a sub-thread over on the W.I.S.H. (We're Inspired to Stay Healthy) forum.

My brother lost 70 lbs through diet & exercise, then stopped both, and put 30 back on, so be careful whatever you try to do to lose weight.

I want an e-reader. 2 friends have a nook, and i've considered a Kindle or iPad. IPad wins from the cool factor,:thumbsup2 but does a 64 gb I pad have the space for everything? At 64 gb, it seems... small. And, would an iPod touch w/ a nook app be cheaper as an e-reader compared to an iPad? :confused3

I'm in! Maybe now that Pete has mentioned us it means we have enough credibility to finally get our own little sub-forum here. That way we could have all things DisDad in one area.

What I did to help keep the exercise from being too boring was to set up the treadmill facing the big screen TV. :3dglasses

I watched television shows on DVD, so there were no commercials. Each show is just over 40 minutes long, so if I watched two episodes I worked out for about an hour and a half with a brief break in the middle of the workout. I usually spent about 2/3 of the workout on the treadmill and 1/3 on free weights. I was doing really well - I'd lost about twenty pounds in about two months. But then I injured my ankle. And then my heavy work travel schedule started, which screwed up my routine. And then the pressure of the case I was working on got me smoking again (after having quit for six months) and that made it even harder to start up the exercise again.

As of yesterday, I haven't had a cigarette in seven months. Seeing this come up on this thread again is motivating me -- I'm going to get the treadmill set back up when I get home tonight. Getting into the workout routine should be a good warm up for all of the walking around WDW that's just over two weeks away!

Sounds like a plan... I'd be willing to give it a shot.

Edit: Just wanted to add this little nugget that I just found out. As a Reds fan, it has been a long time since there's been much to celebrate, but if they can hold on to their 7 game lead over the Cards and take the Central.... I HAVE PLAYOFF TICKETS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's a good idea. I don't even need the competition so much as just plain ol' accountability. It's easier to make yourself work out if you know somebody's going to ask you about it. I'd be up for this.

Hey all... he hasn't posted to the thread yet, but we have a new member. Please welcome swabikedude (James) to the DDC! He is member # 521! :cool1: Hopefully he will stop by soon and make an appearance.

Ok, Steve. I found this in the Tuesday Morning Quarterback column on ESPN.com today. The author likes to argue against punting, especially in the other team's territory. He mentions the Marshall/WVU game as one example. So, you were there--what do you think?

At 9:01 p.m. ET last Thursday -- a mere half-hour into the 2010 NFL season -- the first Preposterous Punt boomed. The Vikings punted on fourth-and-3 from midfield, against the highest-scoring team in the league. Needless to say, they went on to lose. Minnesota averaged a spectacular 6.3 yards per offensive snap in 2009 -- why was Brad Childress afraid to try for 3 yards? Booming a fraidy-cat punt sure didn't lead to victory.

Preposterous Punts are not limited to the NFL. Downtrodden Marshall, which has been paired against football-factory West Virginia since 1911 and never won in 10 meetings, led the heavily favored Mountaineers 21-13 with 3:09 remaining. Playing at home, the Thundering Herd faced fourth-and-1 on the West Virginia 43. The partisan crowd was roaring; Marshall averaged 5 yards per rush in the game. Gain a single yard at home in opposition territory and yours is a historic victory! Boom went the Preposterous Punt, and do I need to tell you anything else?
