The Broadway show thread where we discuss all things Broadway

While this isn't technically Broadway, I would so love to be able to attend the 25th anniversary concert of Les Mis at the O2 Centre in October! But, what I'm really, really hoping is that it returns to the stage in the US!

I read that there is a small tour that will be going along with new 25th anniversary staging that starts soon. Will it just be a concert? If it's just going to be that I don't want to spend money on it.

Wow! Can't believe this thread is still going, I've been away from the Dis far too long. I haven't seen any shows on Broadway or touring companies lately, but I have seen some theater this summer. In Falmouth, MA, on Cape Cod, there's a theater company that comes in during the summer called the College Light Opera Association (CLOC for short), it's a summer stock theater company for college students, and through this company, I've seen "Evita," "My Fair Lady," "Guys and Dolls," "Naughty Marietta," "Kismet" and "A Funny Thing Happed on the Way to the Forum" (next week). What's interesting about the "Naughty Marietta" production is that that was the first time in 100 years that the original orchestration and score had been performed. The role of the Voodoo Queen had been taken out before the first performance, but for this production the Voodoo Queen had been put back in.

I was surprised to see it too! and the weird thing is I was just thinking about it yesterday!

I saw The Lion King on Broadway in April--I loved it! I was blown away. I may be seeing Wicked sometime--my sister was going to go in November, but the weekend she picked is NYC Marathon weekend.

Oooh I just found this thread and I am excited!

While I don't see shows ON Broadway - I do see lots of the travelling ones! Last year we saw Wicked (yuck), Mary Poppins (awesome!) and Wonderland. We've also recently seen Avenue Q, Stomp, and Cirque (a travelling show - not La Nouba - tho we just saw that a few months ago!).

Next year we have season passes for our broadway season and are very excited! In addition to those 10 shows, we also got tickets for Cirque Holidaze, Mama Mia, and Wonderland (seeing it one last time before it makes its debut ON broadway)

So hi!!

can anyone recommend a nice hotel in the theatre district?

We go to NYC at least once a year for the shows!

We were just there for the 4th od July and stayed at the Marriot Marques in time square area, close to all the shows.
The hotel was awesome, check out their website you won't be dissapointed.

We saw Promises, Promises I loved it!
My husband wanted to see American Idiot, I was a little unsure of it but it was a great show.

MAMA MIA=AWESOME......How is Wonderland??

MAMA MIA=AWESOME......How is Wonderland??

We LOVED Wonderland. But when I saw it it was in previews and I heard they've been tweaking it during its run here in Tampa and during its run in Texas. I heard they have changed a bit (added songs, removed some, etc). So I am interested to see how it has changed! But we loved it so much that I got us GOOD seats this time (usually we are in the clouds)

When I was in middle school we went to see A Chorus Line. We got our tickets from TKTS and ended up with front row center seats. I loved it. The only thing that kind of grossed me out was that you could see the spit and sweat coming off the actors. I was sure I was going to get hit. :crazy2:

Or how about seeing the long strand of snot hanging from Julie Andrews' nose when I sat front row for Victor/Victoria? :scared1:

In general, front row is TOO close for me. As a PP mentioned, the front row of the MEZZANINE are generally the best seats in the house.

Sorry I missed this thread when it was first going around. It was fun reading everyone's favorites.

Here's mine:

Musical: Chicago (Bebe Neuwirth & Ann Reinking...circa 1996)

Drama: Hedda Gabler Seen it about 10 times in about 7 or 8 cities. Best was an unusual interpretation in Seattle.

Others near the top: Wicked, Gypsy (Bernadette Peters), The Producers.

Didn't really care for: Miss Saigon, Ragtime, Jekyll & Hyde, Sweeney Todd (Angela Lansbury)---my first B'way show.

Jim

In the last couple of months I've seen West Side Story (didn't like the changes, but enjoyed Karen Olivo), Memphis (liked it) & as stated earlier, South Pacific two more times. SP is my favorite!

My next shows I'm interested in is A little Night Music, Million Dollar Quartet (I've gone to buy tickets 3 times, but keep having second thoughts), Elf (on the fence) & I have to see white christmas again. (hopefully it comes back on b-way this season, it's another fav!) Although not b-way, I also want to see the Nutcracker at Lincoln Center, nyc ballet, this christmas.

I have to see white christmas again. (hopefully it comes back on b-way this season, it's another fav!)

So white christmas is good?? We are seeing it this december only because it is included in the season tickets we got. Otherwise I don't think I would have bought tickets for it - since I don't know anything about it. What is it???

Well, if it's based on the Bing Crosby-Danny Kaye-Rosemary Clooney movie, it's fun. That's a great movie.

So is anybody thinking of going to see Daniel Radcliffe in "How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying"? I'm really thinking about it, it's one of my favorite shows & I'd love to see DR in person!

When we saw Shrek, I got seats in row B, thinking it was the second row, only to find out there was no row A. We were center stage and when donkey "faints" right in front of me, he starts fanning himself with his hoof. I had a hat in my lap and helped by fanning him too. When he got up, he winked at me and smiled. I thought that was pretty cool.

Then there was the time when we saw Chorus Line. My folks had the tickets, but my dad hurt his hip and couldn't go, so they gave us the tickets. They were second row on the aisle. I knew nothing about the show (this was a long time ago) and it was about to start and this guy is just standing in the aisle, blocking my view. I was just about to tap him and say something when he started speaking his lines. He was the director!

I think it is based on the bing crosby movie. I haven't seen it
but friends have and they raved about it. I'd say see it!!!:goodvibes

We had a wonderful Broadway weekend recently. :goodvibes Three shows in just over 24 hours.

We saw Promises, Promises on Friday night. Kristin Chenoweth and Sean Hayes were wonderful, but Kate Finneran stole the show.

Saturday matinee was South Pacific. We had front row, which is usually too close for my liking, but with the Vivian Beaumont's thrust stage that rolls back to reveal the orchestra it was perfect. I am such a sap--I love Rogers and Hammerstein. Kelli O'Hara and Paulo Szot had such marvelous chemistry and beautiful voices. This production closed last Sunday. I am so glad I got to see it live (PBS broadcast it on Live from Lincoln Center).

Our Saturday night show was A Little Night Music. I picked it primarily to see Bernadette Peters and Elaine Stritch. I was not disappointed by these two powerhouses and enjoyed it much more than I expected to.
