The Broadway show thread where we discuss all things Broadway

So white christmas is good?? We are seeing it this december only because it is included in the season tickets we got. Otherwise I don't think I would have bought tickets for it - since I don't know anything about it. What is it???

White Christmas is awesome! It is classic broadway. The dancing is incredible! You'll love it. It is just the same as the movie. Love it & perfect for the Christmas season!

Here's a quick montage video.

Has anyone here seen American Idiot? We loved it and are going for the 4th time next month. :cheer2:

I'm off to see "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum" tonight at CLOC, College Light Opera Association, this is their next to las show for the season. And this weekend I'll be auditioning for a local production of "Jekyll and Hyde." :)

good luck!

I am so behind on my Broadway! So this is what kids do to you! :rotfl2: I would not see Harry Potter in How to Succeed. Though I will look for clips on youtube to see if he is as bad as I think he will be. Mary Poppins is coming near me, but alas I can't afford to go. Oh well!

We don't get to NYC much either.

We used to go to most of the touring companies, but sadly, since the floods in 2008 in Iowa took out not one but 2 of the local venues, our choices have been sadly limited or flat out cancelled.

We had tickets to see Spamalot, but it was cancelled.
We did see Avenue Q, which had to be rescheduled.

This year, the "Broadway" offering is "Fiddler on the Roof", whicn we will pass on, since we've already seen it before.

We now have to travel either one hour east or two hours west to see anything.

I did just get tickets to see "Legally Blonde - The Musical" in October, and we saw a local production of "42nd Street" this summer.

So sad, but I have never been to New York. I saw Wicked when the 1 st tour came through San Francisco. That was amazing. Eden Espinossa was Elphaba and she was phenomenal. I forgot who played Glenda and Fieyero, but they sucked. Oh and Jenna Leigh Green was Nessarose.

To all you Broadway die-hard fans...what would you recommend?

In the Heights and Next to Normal are both coming to our local theater on touring companies next year/season. I can't decide which I want to see more!

Is white christmas returning to broadway for the 2010 season??:santa:

No, this year the Christmas offering will be a new show based on the movie "Elf"

And there is now way to choose between In the Heights and Next to Normal. Both are PHENOMENAL. Alice Ripley won the Tony award for her lead role on Next to Normal and she is part of the tour this year.

Oooh...it's just so hard! I definately want to see The Lion King again; that's touring, too. Last season, I saw Avenue Q (and loved it). Oh, and I saw Shrek the Musical in NYC, just a few weeks before it closed. Sutton Foster was just amazing, as were Christopher Sieber and Daniel Breaker. Of COURSE, the WEEK after we saw it, John Tartaglia came back as Pinocchio/Magic Mirror/Dragon. Of course! I loved him in Avenue Q as Princeton/Rod!

We saw two plays when we were in NYC 3 weeks ago.

Jersey Boys and Promises, Promises. Enjoyed both of them so much. I wish I would have had more time to see more shows. Rock of Ages looks like fun!

We are seeing Next to Normal when it hits Seattle. I think that it will be amazing to see Alice Ripley in her Tony winning role!!!! Our friends saw it in New York a few months ago and said it was such a powerful and emotionally draining show. They loved it! In The Heights was also in our radar but we can't find a convenient weekend to make the trek to see it. We live around 6 hours away so it is never a quick trip!
I think you can't lose with either!!!!! Depends if you want a big, visually vibrant show or a more intense psychologically dramatic experience. This music in both shows is just great!

Next to Normal is super. I saw the off-Broadway incarnation of it a few years ago, and then the first Broadway preview, and later on in the Broadway run. It's a very well constructed, exciting show.

ITH I don't like, but that's okay. Everyone has different taste.

I am very much looking forward to Elf. IIRC, it is written by the guys who wrote the Wedding Singer.

I just wish I could've catched How The Grinch Stole Christmas! while it was still playing. Oh, well.

And I was quite disturbed when I heard of Spiderman: The Musical. Really? Spiderman? A musical? Uckkkk.

I also wish I could've caught Tarzan while it was still running, or that they'd do a tour of it.

Take it from someone who saw it--Tarzan wasn't very good. The only disappointing Disney show.
