The Broadway show thread where we discuss all things Broadway

I am so jealous, I have never seen a Broadway show and probably won't be able to for a long time.
I do, however, see all the traveling Broadway shows. I sure they are not as good as actual Broadway shows, but I love them!
My favorites are Avenue Q, and Wicked.
I listen to the Wicked soundtrack all the time! My daughters 10 and 8, love the music. They don't know it, but I am surprising them with a trip to Austin to see "Wicked". They are going to be so excited!!!

Oh, definitely! I'll let you know how Billy Eliott is.
I've been a big forever fan of Frankie Valli, have seen
him in concert many times, thats why I'm obsessed with
JB, the show is based on his life and the Four Seasons.
All those hits were popular back in my high school and
beyond yrs so its like traveling back in time to the good
ole days!!!!:goodvibes

Okay, I must have been really tired. I meant Billy Elliot:rotfl:
Looks like some really good deals are available. Thanks to everyone for the tips and websites.

I was wondering if there was a new show I missed  My friend and I are going to see Billy Elliott next week, I'll let you know how it is!

I just got my Bye Bye Birdie tickets. After close to 50 years they're finally bringing it back to B-way!

I got them for face value, but they are center orchestra, second row! I didn't want to risk waiting for a good deal, especially with the fact that it only has a run until Jan 10th. These are for my birthday night, so it had to be perfect. :)

Forget Birdie, I can't wait to see John Stamos!!! :lovestruc

Bye Bye Birdie...John Stamos:confused3
Where have I been, had't heard about
it coming to nyc!!! Have fun!! It should
be good!!

Have you heard anything about Dirty Dancing
coming to Broadway?

No, but I've been watching for it. It was playing in Boston recently, but all the reviews I read about it weren't the most positive. I hope it does come, that would be an interesting one to see if I could find a good deal. From what I've read I don't think I'd pay full price to see it.

Oooh, I'm so jealous of them!

Tickets for this run of Wicked are $126 per person--for orchestra! They're not even that much in NYC!

So, I won't be seeing Wicked this year :sad1:

But! Avenue Q! I am so seeing that one. (And bringing my poor mother. The poor mother who sat through Rent and Spring Awakening. And Wicked twice. And Legally Blonde. And...etc)

Dirty Dancing's my favorite movie ever! I've been following the show's road to Broadway for a while and can't wait for it to get here. It's getting horrible reviews though so hopefully they rework it a bit for Broadway ;)

Please let me know how Billy Elliot is...I am really not sure what it is about.

I've seen Billy Elliot on stage twice and it's one of my favorite movies - it's about a boy from a mining town in northern England in 1984 who wants to become a ballet dancer. It's terrific!

There are a lot of touring companies that are actually better than the Broadway casts!! I saw Rent in Boston several years ago and it was terrific. Then saw it in NYC a year ago (Memorial Day weekend) and it wasn't nearly as good...go figure. I've seen Wicked twice in Boston and once in NYC....the Boston casts were just about as good as the NYC cast. But, that isn't always going to be the case.

We saw it in Boston. I loved the movie, even had 'Time of my life' as our first dance when dh and I got married back in '90. But, the musical was lacking. The guy that played Johnny was a great dancer but he didn't seem to have much heart...just didn't connect with the audience. All the mechanical goings on took away from the show as well. There was always something moving onstage....it was either going up or down, or turning around. I got dizzy after awhile. They did that to be able to differentiate between the different scenes.
We walked out of it saying it was adequate, but not great.

Hoping to get Next to Normal tickets in August at TKTS. I already paid a premium for our Hair tickets, do not want to pay full price for a second show.

I just ordered tickets to Next To Normal through TDF yesterday for my friend and I, we're going in July. I'm horrible at not looking at spoilers so I looked up the synopsis of the show after hearing there was a big twist and I got chills! Wow... after hearing all the music I wasn't expcecting that one at all. It looks like a great show!

Make sure they are really second row and not the first. We saw Shrek in February and I bought tickets in row B, thinking it was second row. There was no row A, so we were really in the first row. A little too close.

My D's and I are seeing Wicked on Broadway in a couple of weeks. My son isn't going on the NYC trip. However, he is starting college near Austin and we bought tickets to Wicked for the night we move him into the dorm. I don't know how I'll get through For Good without sobbing audibly.

And yes, it was MUCH EASIER to get good seats for the Broadway production than the one in Austin!

Ooohh, For Good makes me cry hysterically!

Has anyone seen that The Little Mermaid's closing in August? I'm not surprised. I've loved The Little Mermaid since I was little, but the Broadway show just wasn't good, at least compared to the other shows out there. It's still going on tour though!

I hadn't heard that yet, but it doesn't surprise me either. Not a huge fan... bring back Beauty & the Beast, but the original version, not the scaled down one.

We just saw The Little Mermaid two weeks ago, and we all thought it was fantastic! The lighting, the costumes, the set....everything was just gorgeous.

Oh well, hopefully it will come out on tour soon so we can see it again.
