~The BOT Battalion~ BOTS On The Run

Hi BOTS!

Yes, I am posting...

Cam, Andrew and I were tied up Friday and Saturday all day with Delaware Special Olympics. We were thoroughly exhausted by those activities. I bet I walked 10 miles over the two days.

Despite exhaustion, Cam and I were signed up for a 5K this morning. Cam bagged it but I wanted to run despite feeling sore (left foot included to a small degree). I ran the Kid Sheelen's 5K (for Cliff) in 26:40; 8:51 pace, with splits of 8:21, 9:14 and 8:59. The course was a bit hilly and covered some of the ground that the Caesar Rodney Half covers. Lou can attest to the hills.

I am putting my training plan together for the Phila. Distance Run. More on that later on.

Have a great week! Hi to everyone!

Hey BOTS

Mike - Are you binge-eating again? I thought you were taking supplements for that monthly problem?;)

Howard - Terrific job on getting out & 1. volunteering (I'm much too busy for that :sad2:) 2. Getting in that 5k with a terrific time. :thumbsup2. Be nice to that foot!!

Mindy - Congrats on the post!!:goodvibes

Colleen - Do you charge double on the ICEEs if it's super-hot out?:rolleyes1

Sara - What's up, wench? Running? Thank you SO much for donating to my charity web-page.....AGAIN! I appreciate it.

Lounatic - 12 MILES? :worship: What can I say? Oh yeah, WHY?:rotfl:

I ran some over the weekend. The feetuses are cooperating...kind of. I'm taking it easy on 'em.

Jodi!!! I didn't know you were expecting! Congratulations to you and Bruce. Sounds like it might be twins! When are you due?

Hello Bots!

Another week of Baltimore training down.

Tuesday: 9 miles
Wednesday: 9 miles
Thursday: 4 miles
Saturday: 10K Race
Sunday: 12.5 miles (I was supposed to run 16 but it was way too hot so I headed back early)

Total mileage was 40.7

The race Cindy and I ran on Saturday was the oh so funny Lawyers Have Heart 10K. It is actually one of the biggest 10Ks in DC. The race starts and ends in Georgetown and it is a pretty standard out and back course up the potomac river. It was also insanely hot and sweaty, perhaps 75 degrees with 90%+ humidity. The only race I can remember running recently that was this hot and humid, was the NYC half marathon last year. In that race, I started getting heat exhaustion and had to walk for a mile or so too. Ugh. During the 10K I probably dumped more water on my head during the race than I actually drank. They did have wet sponges at one point during the race, which was nice.

I ended up finishing in 45:25 (7:20 pace), which is pretty close to my PR time of 45:16 that I ran last year at the Marine Corp Marathon 10K. Despite not getting a PR, I feel really good about my time. I feel like I am finally getting back into the running shape I was in last year. I've also realized that I quite like the 10K distance. You don't have to kill yourself like you do during a 5K, it doesn't take as long to run as a half marathon, and 10K is long enough that you can reward yourself by taking the rest of the day off to drink beer and sit around the house.

Jodi~ I am being very nice to the foot. I am pro foot! :thumbsup2

I am not going to try to keep up with Matt the wonder-boy in the running dept. I am going to slug my way through gaining my fitness level and endurance back, then ramp back up.

I ran tonight and experienced some discomfort on the tops of my ankles, this is a similar pain to one I endured for a while while last year at this time. It subsided when I got to a good level of fitness. I walked it out and picked it back up. You'll see the difference in my splits below. As I run more and more, the muscles used to "push off" will get stronger and this pain will go away. The bones in the foot felt fine.

Tonight's effort:

Miles: 6.0
Time: 1:05:09
Pace: 10:52
Splits: 12:03, 13:47, 9:40, 9:19, 10:25 and 9:57

Colleen: I'd like to buy an Icee! I'll send the cash, you send the Icee via FedEx. I want it frozen when it arrives please.

(I am kind of wondering how many Colleen sells to "Swim Dads"? She probably has a line a mile long.) :rolleyes1

Have a wonderful evening!

Howdy Doodies,

Matt - Great race. You know how the race results do the age-graded thing to account for us old geezers competing against you young bucks? They ought to do some humidity-graded calculation. You would have smashed your MCM 10K time!

Howard - Kuddos to you, Cam, and Andrew for volunteering for such a great cause. Fine job doing the 5K as well.

Jodi - My anti-binge eating prescription ran out. You should see me go to town on a box of Cocoa Puffs.

Lou - WTG on the 12 miles. I did 12 yesterday evening and it was actually quite pleasant out then.

Night all.

Another sweaty morning run for me today. How long is summer? Is fall coming soon? I actually listend to the dis podcast for the first time while running. They mentioned that Dave is going to do a story on the Kennedy space center and they even talked about Dave's dad. Cool!

Oh and I forgot to mention that for the race Cindy's firm had "team shirts" ordered. I didn't get one, damn, but they were a very ugly satin finish gold color with white stripes on them. They looked like something a high school track team would wear in the 80s. Hopefully the race pictures will be posted soon, so everyone can see them.

Mike Age grading bah! By the time I finish a race you usually already working on your second post race beer. Adding in the age grading just makes it worse :rotfl2:

Colleen: I'd like to buy an Icee!

Ha ha! I will do my best.

Kids had their first day of morning swim practice this morning. It is rough getting up at 6 a.m. but it is such a great way to start the day. I took them to Starbucks to celebrate the first day. They loved it, but I was sure to tell them this was a one time thing.:rolleyes1

I was able to work out while they swam. It was great. Rode the bike for 10 miles and then lifted a bit. Starting to feel strong again.:thumbsup2

Mike, did I read correctly that you are thinking about another marathon before Richmond?:rolleyes1

Howard, great effort! Take it easy so you are ready for ramp up for your Fall races. Listen to your wife, she is a wise woman.:)

Lou, everyone healthy yet in the family??

StitchMat, nice training cycle you got going there. You get the award for being the most dedicated.

Hi Cindy, CindyLouWho, CHester and Dave!:flower3:

I am really wondering why, now that it is summer break, I have the "it's 5 o'clock somewhere" feeling many times a day?? Should I be concerned??:confused3

Hey Matt, I was really excited that they mentioned my Dad. I can't wait to take him to this event. I'm trying not to build it up too much in my mind. We had such a good time at the Air and Space Museum at Dulles, and I hope this event is just as good. Dad's been having a rough time since my Mom passed away. Things are going so well financially for him, and I think he's getting a little "squirrelly" in the house all by himself.

Oh yeah, I got 3.5 miles in yesterday of hillwork. I'm debating running today. My legs and feet have been feeling sore, and I'm thinking I should listen to my body.

That somewhat depends on your DH. If he is still all in for the big go at Richmond I will just run the Towpath half. If he's not able or your NY entry changes his Richmond status, I will go for the flat and fast full and run Richmond for fun. I'm not bailing on Jeff.

Oh, and don't tell anyone else, but it's the same weekend as Baltimore but we will be in Ohio that weekend anyways.

Matt - Those shirts sound super-cool. They'd go great with my green pajama pants!

Hello Bots,

Dave: I hope you took a day of rest yesterday or at least went easy on the legs and feet. You need to take care of yourself after a hard effort. Pretty exciting to hear about your dad on the Podcast.

Colleen: Sounds like summer has started for you. I’m very envious. Once school is over here (another week) we just switch to camp since I still have to go to work. That 5 o’clock somewhere feeling doesn’t hit me till our 1 week of vacation at the end of July. It’s great that you were able to workout while your kids swam.

Matt: Great job on your early morning run. I can’t quite relate to the hot and humid conditions you are having, it seems we’ve had only 50’s and raining for the past 2 months. The 50’s are OK for running, the rain part not so much, but our lawn is nice and green at least. You had a nice result in your 10K race. I agree with you that the 10K is a great distance to race. I hope you enjoyed that post-race beer (or 2).

Mike: I love the age-grading. Makes me feel sort of speedy.

Howard: It’s good that you are adjusting your workouts based on how your feet are feeling. Very wise. A slow and steady approach to regaining your fitness level will be sure to pay off for you. No more injuries!!

Jodi: Hope your feet continue to feel good.

Lou: Glad you are over the stomach bug and able to get out for a run. I’ve never heard of water ice, is it a Philly thing?

I got out for a great hill workout on Monday in the rain. My shoes are still wet today so I’ll be breaking out my new pair for my lunchtime tempo run. The weather today is supposed to be sunny and 70’s so it should be great for a run. I have a 5K race scheduled for Saturday.

I'm trying to make hotel plans for marathon weekend and would like to stay at one of the hotels on the monorail but can't afford that for the entire week. I was thinking of staying there for the weekend then moving to POR for the rest of the week (there are 5 of us, so we need to stay somewhere that they let you have 5 to a room). Has anyone else done that? Do you feel like you've been down-graded? I'm afraid that after a taste of luxury anything else will seem like sloppy seconds, maybe we should just do POR for the whole week. Any thoughts?

Hope everyone is doing well. Have a great day.
Cindy

RIGHT? Phew, I thought it was just me having another mid-life crisis!:rotfl::rotfl2:

CindyLou~ Hi! Thanks for your note. I hope you have a great run today and enjoy the 70's and non-rainy day there. Cam, Andrew and I are running a 5K tomorrow night that benefits the B+ (B Positive) Foundation at my son's school in Wilmington. The course is not friendly, it has a MAJOR hill in it, Lou knows which one. It should be a well attended event. Last year they had around 800 runners/walkers.

Jodi~ I think you meant "Douchebag". ;)

Hi to Mike, Cindy, Matt, Chester, Lou, Dave, Sara, Colleen, Jen, Butch, Bruce, etc.

Have a great day!

Douchebag!
Aaah, nothing like a Good Morning from Jodi.

No running for me yesterday. I was kind of busy working, running errands, etc. Plus, I felt like taking an extra rest day anyhow.

Hello to everyone! :wave2:

Good morning Bots!

Sorry I haven't been posting, I've got a major project at work that I am trying to get done.

I have been running however (although not as much as Matt), and this week I finally feel like I am back into it. Ran 7 yesterday and 4 this morning. Will try for 8 tomorrow.
