~The BOT Battalion~ BOTS On The Run

Thunderstorms rolling in through Rochester. I decided to postpone my long run until tomorrow when it's supposed to be dry. Evie (DD8 pooh: ) had a 103 degree fever yesterday. Swine flu has been declared an epidemic here in Rochester, and it's been going through the schools. Of course so has strep throat. We'll have to wait and see what she has. If it's swine flu, she's supposed to stay out of school for a week. So that's the end of the school year for her.

Now I'm worried. We had several people from our Victor office in town this week. I hope they weren't carrying anything!

You have an office in Victor Megan? What company do you work for? Don't worry about swine flu. The initial reports were really overblown. Yes, people get sick and it spreads fast, but it's no more dangerous than any other flu.

I work for Maximus. We have our largest office here in King of Prussia. My project used to be split between here and Victor. Now all appeals and operations, along with some of the medical, quality and training staff are here. The heads of the medical, quality and training staff are all in Victor. I keep saying that they should relocate everyone here.

Mike!!!

Guess what we had to drink with dinner???

Optimators!!

Did you get to drink it out of a boot??

Colleen - I've never had a Fat Tire but I had a flat tire last week. Cool about the Richmond schedule!

Dave - Sorry to hear about your DD's illness. I hope she feels better soon.

Howard - Whoops on the mis-type, but if the nob fits...

...

Oooh, I think I may have to pick up a few Fat Tires to enjoy around the pool at the Poly!!:thumbsup2

Oh and by the way, Jeff is telling me to tell you "that is the training plan he used to BQ, but Mike is MUCH younger, MUCH healthy, MUCh more agile, etc. etc. that you could easily change it around as much as you want....but be SURE to get in the speed work".:lmao:

Dave, swine flu:confused3oh, I hope not. THere was a huge outbreak at a boy scout camp about 45 minutes from us. They sent everyone home.

OK, where are all the other lame non-posting BOTS??:confused3

Uuugh, Evie passed on her creeping crud to me. Yippeeee. My first Father's Day present.

Cindy- Whenever I see Optimator somewhere I get it in honor of Mike.

Colleen- I'll have to look for Fat Tire. How's your NYC training going?

Megan- You work for Maximus? I didn't know we had any gladiators around anymore.

Hapy Father's Day to all the DADBOTS!:grouphug:

Colleen - Flat Tire, eh? Must be local, haven't tried it or seen it. By the pool @ the Poly??? Anything tastes good! Have you ever tried Dragon Stout?? How 'bout Sam Smith's Oatmeal Stout? Good stuff!

Dave - Ugh! Hope the crap doesn't make the rounds through the entire house. Rest up...surf the web & sign up for GOOFY!:woohoo:

Mike - When you get the boot Optimator, do they serve the dark ale or is it the light one (blech)? I seem to remember the one that Bruce got (bootless) was dark. Had to be if he liked it.

Mindy - You're already training for Baltimore??? Shoot, I should start training for something, too, I guess.

Glad we've made so much headway in finding that fall 2010 marathon!:thumbsup2:headache:

I ran my LR of 6 miles yesterday :sad2: & was wondering why it felt like 15 :confused3. Oh well. My feet are being a-holes....I suppose I'll have to visit the torture chamber this week & see if he can't sort me out 'cause this is getting to be a drag. I must start speed-work (doesn't that sound funny coming from me?) for my 1/2 in NYC. Kinda wanna PR for all the puppies & for all the peeps that have donated $ to my fundraising page.

Jodi - It's Mindy that's boot scootin'. I'm a big, two handed mug guy. And I think Optimator (the beer, not me) is dark by definition.

Dave - Are you oinking or growing a cute little curly tail?

Colleen - Tell Jeff I said thanks, but I'm not MUCH younger than him!

I went out for 5+ this evening and wow, was it ever pleasant out!

The Mixer starts here on the 'Ohana thread....

:stitch:'Ohana Monday Mixer :stitch:

I asked a variation of this on team thread, but it makes for a good general prompt. Lots of us are finalizing our late summer/fall/early 2010 race schedules and/or in training for them. So let's talk events. Two questions:

  1. What event have you committed to that you're most looking forward to, Disney marathon weekend excluded? And
  2. What are you most looking forward to about Disney marathon weekend, if you are attending? (With sympathy :grouphug: to those who are not.)

Hi all! Happy Father's Day to all the wonderful Dads on the BOT Battalion!!!

My son and I went out for some cross-training biking tonight:

11 Miles.

I am incorporating a lot more biking in my training plan for MCM this year.
I travel tomorrow evening (6:05 PM flight) to Denver. I am there through Friday evening.

Have a great week!

:grouphug:

Hey Everyone: I wanted to get on here and wish all my fellow Bot Dads a Happy Father's Day. However, Evie was sick again last night , throwing up in the bathroom, and I didn't make it back to the computer. Anyhow, I hope everyone out there had a great day.

Poor Evie.:hug:Do they know if it is swine flu or is it too late to test for that? How have you been feeling Dave?

MIke, you and I are the same age and I say we ARE MUCH younger than Jeff.:thumbsup2

Thanks to everyone asking about my NYC marathon training...well I have my first long run to report!:banana:I ran/walked 6 miles this morning.:thumbsup2 I ran 1/4 of a mile, walked 1/4 of a mile and finished the 6 miles in 1:15. I am pleased with the my first LR effort. ONly 18 more weeks to go.:scared:

Off to the craft store and library today. It is "ant" week at our house. I ordered an ant farm, so we will be doing a little educational (I know Jodi, I suck) research and projects all about ants and communities.

Have a great day.

You are SO beat! Lauren e-mailed me last night & was like "is summer OVER yet???". Poor kids.

To be honest, the health department doesn't even care anymore if it's swine flu. We asked our pediatrician and she said, "they are so swamped with calls right now, they don't want anymore." We just need to let things run it's course. I feel OK, not great, just OK. I've been coughing a lot too, and have not had a whole lot of energy.

Great job on your first long run Colleen! :thumbsup2

Thanks Jodi.

I posted a new blog on the details of the Apollo 40th Celebration at the Kennedy Space Center. I can't wait to see this with my Dad.

Hello bots!

Mike That 16 week schedule looks pretty hard-core. 5 twenty milers, wow! I actually looked into using a similar plan a while back, but then I realized that I hate cross training and would rather run instead. What are you planning on doing for cross training? Biking? Swimming? Slow easy running?

Dave Sorry to hear about the flu in your house. It seems like everyone is getting it these days.

Colleen Good job on the long run. I actually like the beginning of marathon training season when you are all excited. It's when the long runs get up into the 17-20 mile range and the weather gets really hot that I lose excitement.

Howard and Cam

Cindy and I are going to be in Delaware this weekend for a wedding. Any recommendations on places to do a long run on Saturday morning that might have water fountains?

As for me, I finished up another week of training. I did learn a valuable lesson, though. I can't spend all day on Saturday drinking margaritas called "el martillo" (aka the hammer) and go for a long run the next day. I tried to run 17 miles Sunday night, but I only made it 16 very slow miles and I had to walk for the last half mile.

Cindy and Matt -- Where is the wedding? Delaware is small, but I'd hate to recommend a running course that is two hours north of where you are. Do you need a place to stay? We have a very nice guest room and you are welcome to stay here. In case you don't remember, we are in Wilmington, north of the city.

Cam - Thanks for the offer, but it's actually my dad that is getting married and we are staying in some hotel with other family.

Matt should have mentioned that the wedding is near Wilmington. Actually, it's in Claymont and I believe that is where our hotel is (although my sister can't seem to remember to send me the hotel confirmation information).
