The Book of Daniel on NBC

And that is different from you mocking and distorting people's faith?

You dont see a TV show protraying a Muslim Cleric. I dont see one with a Rabbi talking to God, Abraham, or Moses. Nor do I see a show with a LDS clergy. WHY? Because it just wouldnt be PC

But its open season on all things Christian. You can make fun of the Christians on TV all day long but dont you dare mock any other faith.

7th Heaven, Touched by an angel, and Joan of Arcadia are just watered down theology that make no mention of Jesus and paint a Universalistic picture. They present weak, non-biblically sound main characters. (Angels are not people. )

Now this new Book of Daniel show just outright and blatently mocks Christianity.

Can you imagine if they had a show that made fun of Muslim clergy. It wouldnt be pretty.

Hey, anyone remember Highway to Heaven?

That was a good one...

What about The Flying Nun?

I think it looks funny - can't wait to watch.

"Everyone always joked about us and Seventh Heaven...we have five kids. and my dad is a pastor. We watched the show but I stopped watching after the son converted to Judaism. Its gotten more and more ridiculous over a time. I can't imagine anyone still watches it."

I still watch 7th Heaven - every Monday night. Why do you think Matt's conversion was ridiculous? He married a Jewish girl- why not convert?

If there was a show on TV about a Rabbi and his quirks I'd defiently watch - but thre isn't and won't be - because Judiasm is still a minority in this country and a whole show about Jewish people wouldn't do well in the ratings (unless it was Seinfeld-funny).

Glad to know I'm not the only one!! :wave2:

My fiance loves having me recap the various convoluted relationships and story arcs of the past...he had never watched it until we got engaged. Poor guy. ;)

LOL! You know someone responded to me earlier and I thought they were just being snippy!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: My mistake.

You found it rediculous that the son converted to Judaism? Or is it just that the show jumped the shark and you got tired of ALL the crazy storylines

I found the storylines ridiculous, way over the top. I stopped watching, however, after the son converted to Judaism. I didn't find the conversion ridiculous, I was just surprised at how the show made converting religions to be not that big of a deal, at least that's how it looked from my perspective. It may not be a big deal to others, but it was to me and I didn't like how they did it so I stopped watching. People always say if you don't like something turn it off, so I did.

Gotcha..Makes sense. As someone who'se done what Matt Did,it is abig deal..It happens quite a bit though when people marry a Jew..My conversion class was full of people converting before or after they married..It's long process though

I can understand how someone can convert from Judaism to Christianity. But I can not understand if you call yourself a Christian and have given your life to Christ and then you just say ooppss maybe Jesus wasnt the Messiah after all and follow Judiasm.

I dont think its much of a conversion to the Jewish faith for most of these so-called Christians because if they truly gave their life to Christ then they would not turn from Him nor would they marry outside the faith because they know what a peril it is to be unequally yoked with your spouse.

If you are saying 7th Heaven doesn't mention Jesus, then that just proves you never even watched it! This is just your percieved notion of what these shows are about. If you are going to denounce something, at least do your homework.

it looks good to me, but then again, i frequently describe myself as snarky, so... :rotfl:

This is very close to a personal attack. Not very Christian like.

He doesn't phase me.. I know my religious path. He doesn't. I'm not even sure he believes most of what he says. I think he just likes to stir up stuff

I just watched the clip at NBC.com It sort of looks like a Desperate Housewives Meets a Pastor's Family type thing. I'll give it a view, to at least see if it is entertaining. Looks lke it might be fun.

Isn't great that we are each allowed to have our own views in this country about religion? If you find a show is not in line with your personal beliefs, you don't HAVE to watch it.

The Christian faith is used in these TV shows rather than another religion for ratings purposes. More viewers in this country identify with the Christian faith and will be more likely to watch.

These are TV shows, made purely for entertainment purposes. They do not claim to be teaching some kind of a sermon. They are not trying to teach the gospel. Of course the characters aren't "biblically sound", they are fictional.

Joan of Arcadia was one of my favorite shows. It was a show about a young girl who encountered a lot of real life problems, and she sought the advice of and listened to God, even if she did not understand why He wanted her to do something, to get through her life. I really don't understand how that is blaspemous or heresy, it is just good family entertainment. I am not expecting it to teach me or my child our weekly Sunday School lesson.

I plan to watch the preview of this new show, it sounds interesting. If I find it offensive, I just won't watch it anymore. I have a feeling, though, it will be a good show.

Okay...I'm confused by this. I have watched every episode of 7th Heaven (I know--quite an accomplishment; there's one to add to the resume) and I feel pretty confident in stating that the show has never mocked Jesus or Christianity in any way shape or form.

Also, what is a Biblically-sound character? Are we talking, like, Charleton Heston parting the Red Sea here?

I think Jesus pretty much PROMISED mockery if you chose to follow Him; maybe the WB is just helping you be Godly! :sunny:

I loved it too; it's too bad it was in such a tough time slot. :sad1:

I do think he just wants to stir things up. I'm just glad all of the Christians I know aren't like him/her.
