Yeah Mike, I'm movin'. Movin' on DOWN!! hehe. So Wed. and today the scale is saying 380 + a hair, so that's good. No soda since Monday night, I feel dumb that this is an issue again, but I guess its like "Hi, my name is Don, and I am a Pepperaholic..." I hope no one thinks that's disrespectful to AA, and I kind of mean it jokingly, but thinking about it, losing this weight for me is as important to me and my health as not drinking is to an alcoholic. There's just too many parts of my life that are affected by it. Watching the people change on Biggest Loser, and reading all the incredible stories here on WISH, I WANT THAT SO BAD! I'm sick of being disgusted by what I see in the mirror. Ok, I'm calm.

OK, now the sun is shining outside my cube window, so I'm outta here, gonna load up some rockin' Christmas tunes on the mp3, I don't care who thinks its funny that I've broken out my Christmas music this early. I've got 348 songs currently, and that's being somewhat selective. Faves are Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Chicago XXV, Brian Setzer Orch., Gary Hoey, Harry Connick, Sinatra, Kurt Bestor, Mannheim Steamroller, Michael McDonald, Mo-Tab Messiah, and 2 albums of incredible guitar players called Merry Axemas 1 and 2.

Hey Don!

I want to thank you for your encouragement and support in my journal. :goodvibes You are doing a great job! Keep up the good work! :cheer2:

I'm just stopoing by to say hi and see how you're doing. :wave2:

Hi Tracy, Beth, Mike, everyone, I'm still hangin' in here, just gettin' ready for Thanksgiving and then Mickey! Not much news for me, still haven't been exercising like i should, mostly staying away from the soda. Weight is just maintaining, I'll try and get out and walk today, sun is shining but its 36 degrees according to weatherbug.

We're all pretty bummed, DS's football team lost the championship game by 1 point! AHHHGG! It was sooooo frustrating, they really had the other team beat, but a couple of bad breaks, and then time ran out as we were driving for what would have been the winning touchdown. Final was 19-18, they just managed to get 1 extra point, we got none. The truly frustrating part was that they scored the go-ahead TD with about 6 minutes left in the game. What I wasn't aware of before this is that in this league, the clock runs continuously until the last 2 minutes, even after TD's. They proceeded to squander 4 minutes on the dang extra point! which was meaningless anyway. So we didn't get the kickoff until the 2 minute warning, drove down to the 14 yard line, and ran out of time.

Consolation is that the team is going to what they call the National Youth Football Championships in Las Vegas over Thanksgiving, we went last year and it was a lot of fun. This really is an awesome team, quality at every position, and this is the best they've ever done. 2 yrs ago they were undefeated regular season, lost in the 1st playoff game in the snow. Last year they were 7-2, won 1st playoff game, then lost to arch-rivals fairly badly. That was actually in a lower league, so we did better in a better league. Andrew was pretty sad, I had a good opportunity to tell him how proud I was of him, and how none of them had anything to be ashamed of. I was able to break him out of his funk, felt good about that. He's going to ride down and stay with a coach, and I'm going to drive down for their last game and bring him home. Then its a 4 day work week and then MICKEY!! Hallelujah!!
:jumping1: :jumping1: :jumping1: :jumping1: :jumping1: :jumping1:

Hey Don....

One question.... Are you excited about going to Disney World? I can't really tell. ;)

I'm sorry to hear about the championship game, but what an amazing season they had! ::yes:: Are the guys playing at the National Youth Football Championships? Sounds like a lot of fun! :goodvibes

Hope you have a great week, Don! Take care! :goodvibes

Hey, Don! Congratulations to Andrew and his team! So glad they will have to the opportunity to play together in Las Vegas! What an awesome opportunity. And I am sure he knows how proud you are of him, but it is great that you had the opportunity to tell him and to bring him out of his funk! Good going, Dad!
Have a great night!

Just checking in and hoping that Andrews team does well in Vegas!!!!! And then a few days til Disney - how exciting. I hope you have a great time!!!!

Take care
Keep on

Hi Cam, Chris, Tracy, everyone! Holy Macaroni, I'm single digit dancin'!!! Unbelievable!! :bounce: :maleficen :upsidedow :faint: :hyper:  :teleport: :rockband: :jester: :jumping3: :jumping2: :thewave:

You know how if you go to sleep on one side of the international date line, and travel through the night to the other side, you can totally miss a certain date on the calendar? Well, I might have totally missed my day 9 of my countdown, because last night Elaine and I were examining the flight loads, and next Thursday looks bad, but Wednesday looks good! So I might get that extra day I always wanted, just at the beginning rather than the end. So instead of day 9 counting down, this might be day 8! Works for me! Used my entertainment book code to get a 1 day minivan at enterprise for $32, and it looks like the cheapest 1 day suite we can get is the Travelodge Maingate Suites. Probably not the nicest place to stay, but hard to beat $39.95 for the 7 of us. Would love to stay at a Value resort for the night, but don't imagine we could stuff all 7 in 1 room, can't afford 2. Looks like the best park for that day is the Studios, Epcot has EMH and MK has MVMCP, and we'd be too late for a good day at AK.

So Andrew left yesterday with the coach and his family, thought we were going to have to send a bunch of money with him for food, but the fundraising we've been doing took care of that, so that was good. Can't wait to go down and see him in Vegas!

I can't help but laugh at your countdown issue - that's too funny!!!! Have a good time in Vegas!

Happy Thanksgiving!!!
Keep on

Hi Linda, thanks for the good wishes!
Hi Chris and Tracy, can't hardly stand myself! I'm supposed to get lots of work done in the next 3 days before I go, hmm, not sure that's gonna happen :earseek:

Well, Vegas was a bit of a bummer. Apparently because Andrew's team has several pretty big guys on the line, the average team weight was enough to bump us up to a division with 13/14 year olds. Played a team from Minnesota on Thanksgiving Day, and lost 26-6. I drove down for the consolation game on Friday, where they played a team from British Columbia, and lost that one 31-6. My observation from that game was that our backs and ends were a lot smaller than theirs, and not as fast either, so anytime their runner got past the line into the secondary, we just couldn't bring him down. The other very frustrating thing was the condition of the field. They play these games on the high school fields, and it didn't look like this field had seen any water in months. Dusty, no traction on the dead grass, and hard as a rock. Nasty. I need to get rich and fly us all to Florida next year for the Eastern version of this tournament, get us out of the desert. I remember the fields being bad last year, but not this bad. Ok, done griping. Andrew wasn't too upset about it, since it was against older kids. Drove him home after, stopped and had Steak and Eggs in Mesquite.

Then stopped and saw my dad. He lives in St. George, Utah, with his 4th wife. He's 83 yrs old, and has prostate cancer. He had a very bad reaction to a medication they gave him during a procedure a couple of years ago, and then took an incredible fall off a ladder head first into the pavement about a year ago. he survived, but both incidents have left his mind a little worse for wear. I don't get down to see him very often, its about 300 miles away, but I was glad to get this opportunity. His wife says the prostate is getting worse, but mentally he seems about the same. Sad to see him like this, we used to always talk for hours about all sorts of crazy stuff, politics, religion, science. He drove trucks for many years, dropped out of college after a couple of years not because he was having trouble, but because he thought he could make more money driving to support his family. Taught me to drive when i was 7, in a subaru with a stick shift. On his side of the family we seem to have a history of our bodies outlasting our minds, but he seems happy enough. It was fun to have him stand up next to Andrew, they're exactly the same height now! I'm about 2 inches taller than them, but I'm sure that won't last.

Saturday bought a driver's seat for my car from a salvage yard. Wish I could have bought it and installed it before my trip, my seat is falling apart and very uncomfortable. I'm hard on chairs. GRRR. Then went and saw HP with the family. I've got to say I wasn't that thrilled with it, visually it was wonderful, but the plots of these HP movies just seem too random and non-sensical. I've only read the 1st book, guess I ought to read the rest, maybe it would make more sense to me. Kids said lots of things were left out of course, so maybe that's it.

Sunday was fun, kind of a 'Stump the band' at church. I'm one of the music leaders, and as our main service instead of a sermon or anything, we just had members from the congregation come up and say a little about a favorite hymn, and then we'd all sing 1 verse of it. It was easy for me, I just have to sing and wave my hand in the air, but the organist was awesome. She even added a nice twist at the end. The last person requested "I heard the bells on Christmas Day" and she picked a Bells sound for the organ, very cool. Quite a workout, but very uplifting and inspiring.

3 days, wow!

WHOOOOHOOOOO on the 3 more days!!!!!

Sorry to hear that the games weren't that great and the field conditions were even worse. What a bummer. But I guess it's good to see other teams and how they work.

If I don't see you before you go have an awesome time!!!!

Keep on
Chris

Have an awesome trip, Don & Family!! Tell Mickey I miss him and will see him soon! :teeth:

Thanks Chris, Jaime, Cam! I'm going crazy!!!!! almost done with my 2nd to last work day, oh yeah!!

So, some of the crazy developments of the last couple of days. Since we're going 1 day earlier, we needed a car, so I got a van from Enterprise, used my Entertainment book discount, and got a night at Travelodge Suites, hope the cockroaches don't eat us. Also, the return flight from JFK to SLC on the 9th wasn't looking good, so we extended to Saturday!! and now, all of the sudden, the plan is to go 1st thing in the morning to JFK, go into Manhattan for the day, then back to JFK and home. So, now we both need transport for 1 more day, so I reserved a 12-pass van from Thrifty. Don't worry, I know how dangerous those dang things are, I'll be taking it easy. Another funny thing, flights out of Orlando Saturday the 10th don't look good, so we're going to fly out of Tampa!! Luckily when I entered pickup at MCO and dropoff at TPA, it was only $5 more. So all said and done, we'll be dealing with Alamo, National, Enterprise and Thrifty, and 2 airports and an off airport location! Jiminy!

So, now the master planner must get the whole platoon from JFK to Manhattan and back at minimal expense in a short period of time. I'm on the case, checking the MTA website. I wanted to avoid the stupid AirTrain, $5 each for the short ride to the subway, thought maybe we could bus it all the way in, but that looked to take about 2 1/2 hours each way. Then I discovered that the Q10 bus from JFK connects to the A Train Subway at Ozone Park, and timetables imply that we can get all the way in about an hour. Score! One thing I ran into when I went into Manhattan with Elaine last time, apparently we did the transfer from the bus to the subway or the subway to the bus wrong, because they wouldn't let us, said we had the wrong kind of transfer. Anybody know about that? I'll keep investigating. Everyone wants to see Lady Liberty, frugal me says lets just walk out to the shore and gaze upon her, but we may end up taking the ferry out for the tour. Includes Ellis Island, which I would very much enjoy, I think my maternal Greatgrandpa came thru. I still want to sample real NY bagels for breakfast, and another shot of NY brick oven pizza would be tasty. Anyhow, looks like if we land at 8:45, hope to hit lower manhattan by 10:30, then leave by 5:30 to get back and check in by 7, for flights in the 8 o'clock hour. Sure, why not!

Sorry my journal seems to have lost focus recently, guess I've been letting the stress and excitement get to me, thanks for all your continued support. I AM totally convinced that I can lose the weight, just need to re-commit and fight harder.

1 day, 6 hours, 15 minutes, 37 seconds!

Ok, had to print out a reservation document, so I'm back online for a sec. Gonna go walk the soles off my Scholl's, but I'm gellin' like Magellan!! See ya all on the other side! Flight leaves in 3 1/2 hours, I can taste it. Blue chips and almonds, drink up me hearties, Yo HO!!
