The Beatings Will Continue Until Morale Improves! (my journal)

Well, I'm back, and just sitting here wallowing in the post-WDW, no trip planned blues. The trip was great, many more positives than negatives, got to all 4 parks, nothing I missed that I desparately wanted to see. I feel dumb for showing up late for the meet at Earl's, we got there just in time for the picture, then everyone pretty much just split. Still, it was nice to meet everyone. Weather was nice for the 1st few days, got rainy for the last few. It was fine, hardly any lines for the rides and shows, but the parades got cancelled, they should make the parades water resistant. They even cancelled the Ozzy lights because of rain on Thursday, which puzzled me, since weren't they made with outdoor lights? Got to see them on Sunday night, so I wasn't too upset, got good video. Got 3 1/2 hours of video actually! The funnest one was the one I made while riding Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Anyhow, I'll try and write an entertaining trip report.

The only good thing about being home is that I got on the scale this morning and it read 276! That's 1 pound away from my 20 lb. clippie, and about 10 pounds down from when I left. Lots of walking and even some jogging when the schedule was tight. I know my legs were hurting every night, downed quite a bit of ibuprofen.

Got a PM saying my sig is out of control, been trying to fix it. :teeth:
Have a good one! :earboy2:

Hey Don!

I hear ya about the post WDW, no trip planned (yet!) blues. I hear the only cure is to start planning another trip! :teeth:

Congratulations on being 1 pound away from your 20 lb. clippie! That is wonderful especially after a trip to WDW! :jumping1: There's just sooo much good food there! :goodvibes

I want to WISH you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a healthy, happy, and prosperous New Year! Take care! :goodvibes

Hi Don!

I saw that you posted in Mike's journal and wondered how you and your family are doing? Are you guys planning on taking advantage of the free dining promotion at WDW? If you need any help planning, I am officially a Disney travel agent now. :Pinkbounc Please let me know if I can be of some assistance. :goodvibes

I hope this message finds you and your family doing well. Take care! :sunny:

Hi Jamie, thanks for thinkin' of me.

Hi Tracy, thanks for almost singlehandedly keeping my journal alive. That's exciting about you being a Disney travel agent, and, well, hmm, I am definitely intrigued by the Free Dinning (never did figure out why Zzub spelled it that way, it was a joke, right?). I've just been lurking around here occasionally, but I do get email when someone posts in my journal, thanks so much for thinking of me. I guess what happened is, we got back from WDW, and didn't have another trip planned, and truthfully I'm not sure that we'll ever get back, at least not for a few years. I loved our trip, but it was a little bit anti-climactic for me. I had obsessed so much over it last year, and enough things were a little negative about it, that I came back with a real sense of blah about the whole thing. Maybe it was because my DW Elaine really didn't ever catch the WDW bug, even after being there, that I've kind of backed off from it. I never got around to writing my trip report, and the blahs kind of killed my desire to do that too. Dang it all anyway!!! :furious:

Its been kind of a bad winter on the WISH front too, bad habits, bad weather, etc. I've been out walking a few times and played basketball a few times, and even started lifting weights with DS13 Andrew for a while, maybe just enough total exercise to not completely turn into a total marshmellow. Was maintaining pretty well until a trip we took last week to Denver to spend time with Elaine's sister and family, the ones we went to WDW with. It was just a hang out trip, no major activities planned, so it really turned into a pig-out trip, and I do think I gained back a few pounds. Weather wise, it seems like winter got shifted about 2 months this year, our Christmas was warm and dry, but we just had one of the snowiest March's on record, and its kept going into April, with a huge storm just 2 days ago. Supposed to be a nice weekend, and hopefully the cold weather is mostly gone now, so I'm running out of excuses.

I've also recently discovered the wonders of interline travel, specifically cruises. I've been trying to plan a nice trip for our 15th anniv. this year, which is Sept 21, plus I turn 40 on Sept 23. I didn't know it before, but as an airline employee, Elaine gets all sorts of travel discounts, in fact, and it about killed me to see it, but a few weeks ago it came out that we can get an interline rate on Disney resorts, a whopping 50% off the rack rates! before I saw that I had been researching cruises. I've always wanted to go, heard nothing but rave reviews from anybody that I've talked to about cruising, and signed up for the VacationToGo cruise newsletter. Then when i discovered the interline rates, i really started to go nuts. Can't seem to get that great of prices on Disney cruises, but there's been some killer prices, like $199 for 7 days on the NCL Spirit out of NYC, down to Port Canaveral and Miami, then out to the Bahamas and back to NYC. The one i'm most intrigued with is a 4 day repositioning cruise on the NCL Sun from L.A up the coast, stopping in San Fran and Astoria Ore., ending in Vancouver BC. Seen these repo cruises going for as little as $99, so that was my original plan for the anniversary before I saw the free dining available again at WDW. Now I'm torn, torn like an old sweater.

I sent off to Dreams Unlimited for a quote, but haven't committed to anything, plus I IM'd with a Disney CM about it and got the direct link to Disney for it, but if we were to do it I would definitely go thru you, Tracy. The best possible scenario I see for us, not being able to budget a major trip, would be the minimum 3 days at a value, with a single day non-hopper ticket. I've been trying to plan a nice trip for our 15th anniv. this year, which is Sept 21, plus I turn 40 on Sept 23rd. I saw the tentative dates for MNSSHP, and there is a tiny overlap with the free dining, so I'm looking at possibly something like Sept 28-Oct 1, with MNSSHP on the 29th. I've thought of 2 alternatives, either just Elaine and I go, which would cost about $500 for the 3 nights, 1 day ticket and 1 night of MNSSHP, or the whole family could go, which would be more like $1000-$1200 or so. If the whole family went we would get 4 of us on the free dining plan, and then the other 2 (over age 3) in just a separate room on our interline rate. Sure would be fun!

Well, I told Elaine that I was going to try again to stop the pop, didn't have any yesterday, none today. I'm going to try to go to Mother's Day without one, I invited her to join me on my plan, and then told her we could take a 2 day repo cruise on the Diamond Princess from SFO to Vancouver for Mother's Day. She wasn't so excited about the cruise, but says she'll try to stop the pop too. She's a Diet Coke drinker, which seems to have almost as much negative effect on her as the Dr. P does on me. Wish me luck (on the pop and on the convincing!)

Hi Don,

sorry to hear that winter has been rough....hopefully everything will start to look up. Hopefully the weather for you will start to get better...that makes it easier to get out... I think!!

Congrats on going soda free again...I know you can do it, you know you can do it!!! You did it last time....stay strong. That is a good idea to have your wife join you...that way there is not any temptation next to it!

Keep it up...you can do it!

Have a great day!

Hey Don!

I know what you mean about winter being rough, but with spring around the corner, it's time to get back into the game! :thumbsup2 You did a great job last year and you definitely CAN do it again this year! :goodvibes

You may want to check into the 5 Factor Fitness stuff... The workouts are 25 minutes a day (with weight training) and the food plan is definitely do-able. The website is :

If you and Elaine decide to book the free dining, please let me know. I will be more than happy to help! :goodvibes

Have a great day!

Hey Don,

It is great to hear from you again.
I had been wondering how your winter was going.
Sorry it has been such a long hard one for you.

I can relate to that Disney bug you have.
My dh just does not see Disney like I do either.
As you can see from my sig I have been to WDW quite a few times but when my kids were little the trips were further apart. Our children are grown now.
(Candy is 36, Rick is 34, Bob is 25 and Cathy is 22)
We only took the 2 oldest to WDW 2 times and DL once. The younger ones got to go a few times When the kids are in higher grades it is just too hard to take them out of school.

Well, the good news for me now is our children are older and it is easier for DH and I to go on little getways.
In 2003 when DH asked me where in all the world I wanted most to go for our 35th wedding anniversery I replied Disney World.

I think he finally understands how much Disney means to me so we go a little more now.

It is hard though when the one you love just does not get the same magical feeling about Disney as you do. I so understand that.

Keep posting and stay in touch.
I always enjoy hearing about your family adventures and am rooting for you on your WISH journal.
Keep up the work and stay soda free. :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

I wish you a happy annniversery and a wonderful 40th birthday and have fun on your trip wherever you choose to go,

Hi Linda, thanks for checking in!

Fought the soda temptation today and won, got a big powerade instead. I had the headache the last 2 days, its over now, and I don't want anymore.

Here's a couple of pictures from our trip, didn't take too many. Got 3 1/2 hours of video tho.

Don -- Great pix! so glad to see you posting here again. Good job on fighting the soda monster. I have been working on that vis a vis caffeinated coffee!

Take good care, buddy! :goodvibes :grouphug:

Hi Don,

I am new to your thread so I am not in the know of your whole story but just want to say we have a couple of things in common! First I took a 7 month break from W.I.S.H but just returned this week and secondly, I am a Coke/Dr. Pepper addict too! In fact, today I allowed myself a regular coke, small size from Burger King. I counted the points in (I am on Weight Watchers) and enjoyed it to a point but after not having one since the first week of January was surprised at how little it did for me. I am not sure why even got one, maybe because I wanted to prove to myself I could have one, who knows! In any case, I am glad Spring is bringing you new hope and possiblities. Hang in there and good luck!!

Don,

I love the Disney photos of your family and the photo of you with your W.I.S.H. friends.
They are priceless. You will enjoy looking at them for years to come.

As the previous poster said," Spring is bringing you new hope and possibilities."

It is time to get back outside and enjoy some that fresh air, Take a walk,
play in the yard with your family and most of all enjoy those little ones.
They really do grow up too quickly!

Give them all a hug for me.

Hey, Don! How are you today? I hope you are able to look back on yesterday with happiness and pride. Take pleasure in everything you did right in your WISH quest!

It is such a gorgeous day here and it is hard to be inside. I hope you have sunshine and warmth and can get out to enjoy it!
