Hi Jamie, thanks for thinkin' of me.
Hi Tracy, thanks for almost singlehandedly keeping my journal alive. That's exciting about you being a
Disney travel agent, and, well, hmm, I am definitely intrigued by the Free Dinning (never did figure out why Zzub spelled it that way, it was a joke, right?). I've just been lurking around here occasionally, but I do get email when someone posts in my journal, thanks so much for thinking of me. I guess what happened is, we got back from WDW, and didn't have another trip planned, and truthfully I'm not sure that we'll ever get back, at least not for a few years. I loved our trip, but it was a little bit anti-climactic for me. I had obsessed so much over it last year, and enough things were a little negative about it, that I came back with a real sense of blah about the whole thing. Maybe it was because my DW Elaine really didn't ever catch the WDW bug, even after being there, that I've kind of backed off from it. I never got around to writing my trip report, and the blahs kind of killed my desire to do that too. Dang it all anyway!!!
Its been kind of a bad winter on the WISH front too, bad habits, bad weather, etc. I've been out walking a few times and played basketball a few times, and even started lifting weights with DS13 Andrew for a while, maybe just enough total exercise to not completely turn into a total marshmellow. Was maintaining pretty well until a trip we took last week to Denver to spend time with Elaine's sister and family, the ones we went to WDW with. It was just a hang out trip, no major activities planned, so it really turned into a pig-out trip, and I do think I gained back a few pounds. Weather wise, it seems like winter got shifted about 2 months this year, our Christmas was warm and dry, but we just had one of the snowiest March's on record, and its kept going into April, with a huge storm just 2 days ago. Supposed to be a nice weekend, and hopefully the cold weather is mostly gone now, so I'm running out of excuses.
I've also recently discovered the wonders of interline travel, specifically cruises. I've been trying to plan a nice trip for our 15th anniv. this year, which is Sept 21, plus I turn 40 on Sept 23. I didn't know it before, but as an airline employee, Elaine gets all sorts of travel discounts, in fact, and it about killed me to see it, but a few weeks ago it came out that we can get an interline rate on Disney resorts, a whopping 50% off the rack rates! before I saw that I had been researching cruises. I've always wanted to go, heard nothing but rave reviews from anybody that I've talked to about cruising, and signed up for the VacationToGo cruise newsletter. Then when i discovered the interline rates, i really started to go nuts. Can't seem to get that great of prices on Disney cruises, but there's been some killer prices, like $199 for 7 days on the NCL Spirit out of NYC, down to Port Canaveral and Miami, then out to the Bahamas and back to NYC. The one i'm most intrigued with is a 4 day repositioning cruise on the NCL Sun from L.A up the coast, stopping in San Fran and Astoria Ore., ending in Vancouver BC. Seen these repo cruises going for as little as $99, so that was my original plan for the anniversary before I saw the free dining available again at WDW. Now I'm torn, torn like an old sweater.
I sent off to
Dreams Unlimited for a quote, but haven't committed to anything, plus I IM'd with a Disney CM about it and got the direct link to Disney for it, but if we were to do it I would definitely go thru you, Tracy. The best possible scenario I see for us, not being able to budget a major trip, would be the minimum 3 days at a value, with a single day non-hopper ticket. I've been trying to plan a nice trip for our 15th anniv. this year, which is Sept 21, plus I turn 40 on Sept 23rd. I saw the tentative dates for
MNSSHP, and there is a tiny overlap with the free dining, so I'm looking at possibly something like Sept 28-Oct 1, with MNSSHP on the 29th. I've thought of 2 alternatives, either just Elaine and I go, which would cost about $500 for the 3 nights, 1 day ticket and 1 night of MNSSHP, or the whole family could go, which would be more like $1000-$1200 or so. If the whole family went we would get 4 of us on the free dining plan, and then the other 2 (over age 3) in just a separate room on our interline rate. Sure would be fun!
Well, I told Elaine that I was going to try again to stop the pop, didn't have any yesterday, none today. I'm going to try to go to Mother's Day without one, I invited her to join me on my plan, and then told her we could take a 2 day repo cruise on the Diamond Princess from SFO to Vancouver for Mother's Day. She wasn't so excited about the cruise, but says she'll try to stop the pop too. She's a Diet Coke drinker, which seems to have almost as much negative effect on her as the Dr. P does on me. Wish me luck (on the pop and on the convincing!)
