The All-New What's For Dinner Thread!!(recipe index in OP)

Ross cut off the bottom of his big toe one layer away from needing a skin graft on a field trip with the summer rec program on Tuesday, and that has basically been my week, dealing with it.

(I am (ahem) a bit divaish and camping is NOT my thing.....bugs, dirt, no room service or private bathrooms). I do love the whole sitting around the camp fire drinking part, so we stay until the wee hours then head home.

Next week Kris and I are leaving on Thursday for a mini vacation to Bar Harbor just him and I, Ross will go to the inlaws.

Oh no, poor Ross. Hoping he heals quickly.

About the camping, I knew we were twins separated at birth.:lmao:

Lucky lady, that mini vacation sounds great!!

Just heard from Kyle, they tied their first game and won their second game today. He's swinging a hot bat lately, which is so not like him, he's 5 for 7 at bats.:yay:

He had me laughing, the coach let them vote on what their plans for this evening would be, either a Reds game or King's Island again. You'd think these baseball lovin boys would jump at the chance to attend a MLB game, um, it was unanimous - King's Island again.:lmao:

Super fast check in....I know I am far far behind this week...I promise that I will catch up Monday night............This week has been Crazy!! Ross cut off the bottom of his big toe one layer away from needing a skin graft on a field trip with the summer rec program on Tuesday, and that has basically been my week, dealing with it.
This weekend is our big Karate team bootcamp at a semi local campground. I have spent the day food prepping and packing etc. We go tonight to start helping set up, thank goodness it is close enough that Kris and I will come home each night, (I am (ahem) a bit divaish and camping is NOT my thing.....bugs, dirt, no room service or private bathrooms).
I will "see" you all Monday evening.

Oh, Poor Ross! :flower3: Have a good time! I'm sure you'll enjoy the drinking around the fire part!!! :goodvibes

I figured out dinner as long as the farmer's market cooperates. I am going to marinate the steak in soy, honey, rosemary, garlic, and olive oil, and grill it, slice it thin and serve that with corn on the cob, sliced tomatoes on arugula, and some crusty bread. I'll probably grill myself a piece of chicken in the same seasonings as the steak.

Gosh even without pictures, you make dinner SOUND SOOO GOOD!:goodvibes

 Go Kyle! Must be a very cool amusement park to beat out a Reds game!

Laura--Love the food pics, but where's the pic of the sangria! Priorities girl, priorities!:rotfl2:

You're right...sorry. Good thing I took one! ;)

check out our new improved ticker!

You're going to love the Poly. Like Beck said, we haven't been in years, except for the O'Hana breakfast, but it is a really great place to stay.

Thanks for the grilled pizza instructions. I never thought to try it with naan. I did try to grill one of those premade but uncooked pizza doughs before. It was not pretty.

So far with one win and two losses we're not looking too good, but we have two more games today.

Have you heard any results yet? Liam was excited today because he got moved up from AA to AAA at baseball camp today. He thinks it was only a temporary call-up though. He expects to be back in AA Monday.

Dinner tonight is going to be crabs!

Yum! Have a great time.

Laura, What did you put in your guacamole? It looks so yummy!

Thanks! Last night it was one avocado, 3 scallions, 1 jalapeno pepper, 4 grape tomatoes, the juice of one lime, a small handful of cilantro and salt.

I'm sorry the news from the doctor was not an easy fix. Hopefully, the injections will work for you.

That margarita sounds good.

He says when I do things like that to him I am "messing with his psychic network" :rotfl2::rotfl2:
:rotfl:

My plans for today are to clean house, strip and paint my powder room vanity, and grocery shop. If I actually do it all, I'll cook something =)

If I did all that, I would NOT be cooking!

 I hope he is doing better. Have fun this weekend. (And I completely agree with you on the camping...not for me, thanks!)

It was too hot and humid to go to the store today, so I am just making something out of what I have, which means some kind of pasta.

Just heard from Kyle, they tied their first game and won their second game today. He's swinging a hot bat lately, which is so not like him, he's 5 for 7 at bats.:yay:

You answered my question. I'm glad they did well today! Maybe they think going to King's Island is a good luck ritual?

Oh Man does that look good! It must be 5:00 somewhere, right?

Thanks for the concern & the guacamole tips!

:cool1:

Back from the store and Home Depot - I am going to grill a garlic butter sirloin steak for each of us and nuke some baked potatos. Easy enough!

If I get adventerous, I will throw some zucchini on the grill as well.

 I was going to fix a blueberry-blackberry galette ( recipe in cooking light) but my blackberry have gone bad. Anyone know good fruit combos? Would pear & blueberries or strawberries/blueberries be better?

Poor Ross! But it sounds like Poor mom too. I hope that he is better soon, that whole toe thing sounds very painful :scared:

I am so not a camper either. I like the idea of roughing it as long as I am not inconvenienced, therefore my first question when I started dating Buddy was not "Do you like kids?" but was "Are you into camping?"

I guess it was not a fair thing though, he pointed out that when he picked me up that first time there was only one child peeking out at him. Oh well..... he hates camping so the rest was all good.......for me :rotfl:

Have a great time on your well deserved weekend!

More than one soul sister on this thread, I think ;)

Good for Kyle! He really is good, isn't he!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am with him on the amusement park though. :thumbsup2

Buddy says the funniest things! :lmao:

I told him that he amuses me :lmao::lmao:
Liam was excited today because he got moved up from AA to AAA at baseball camp today. He thinks it was only a temporary call-up though. He expects to be back in AA Monday.

Well I hope he enjoys his step up even if it was for one day. The rate he is going he will not be temporary long.

Aimee- I would not be cooking after your day. It would be order in!

Sheryl I think either fruit combo's sound good. The pear/blueberry sounds good to me right now.

Wendie Poor Ross I hope he heals quickly. I agree on the camping thing. S'mores, campfires wiennie on a stick and I there. Sleeping on the ground bugs in my hair and other places and I'm gone.:rotfl2:

Kathy I've heard of Kings island and I would vote that way too. Tell Kyle :yay: :cheer2: from us.

No cooking for me I have a retirement party to go to tonight. I am going to try not to stay out to late tonight I have much to do tomorrow. I don't do late nights well anymore.:rolleyes1 Some how I've grown old:confused3

He should be excited, I have a feeling you're in store for thousands of "proud momma" moments with both Liam & Caili.:thumbsup2

The menu here changed again. That grilled salmon with beurre noisette sauce & dried cherries was calling me again. I put pecans in the sauce instead of almonds, we'll see how that turns out. So were having that with grilled veggies & maybe a salad. The galette ended up being blueberry & strawberry:confused3 . I thought I had several pears but only had one.

Don't worry about this! As the others have said, we are not going anywhere. How is Leslie today?

Leslie is doing much better today. I, however, have had a doozy of a day! I went to Costco this morning, and as I was wandering around, I got so hot! Sweat was just dripping off me. Apparently, I looked ghastly, as people were stopping me to ask if I was ok. I managed to get to my car and home, but it was only through sheer luck that nothing happened along the way. Once home, I crashed in bed until about an hour ago. Don't know what hit me, but it was terrifying! I'm feeling much better now, and Alan is fixing mac and cheese for the kids. I think I'll have some cream of wheat!

I do love the whole sitting around the camp fire drinking part, so we stay until the wee hours then head home. Our best friends have a 30+foot camper that they bring, (they love camping?!!?) so we luck out and hang with them and use it like our own, they keep telling us they have plenty of room for us to bunk in their camper, but home is only 20 min away. (like Kris said though, if it was 2hrs away we would have a room at a local hotel, lol) So we will be there until late tonight then back early in the AM, there all day until the wee hours then home for some ZZZ's then back again Sunday morning until 3ish.
Ross is only going to be able to do certain events due to his toe, and I will have to keep cleaning and wrapping it. It is grizzly.
Next week Kris and I are leaving on Thursday for a mini vacation to Bar Harbor just him and I, Ross will go to the inlaws.

My thoughts, hugs, prayers are with all of you. I hope everyone is doing well, but for those who might be having a rough week, extra hugs for you!!!
I will "see" you all Monday evening.

Have fun with your semi camping trip! We did a fun thing this year. We had a gourmet s'mores competition. We all had to see who could come up with the best s'mores. We had a ball! We used graham crackers, chocolate chip cookies and peanut butter cookies as the base. Then we had an assortment of toppings. Marshmallows, marshmallow creme, peanut butter cups, Nutella, raspberry jam, Hershey bars, etc. It was so much fun!!!

Just a suggestion for your camping enjoyment!

 I was going to fix a blueberry-blackberry galette ( recipe in cooking light) but my blackberry have gone bad. Anyone know good fruit combos? Would pear & blueberries or strawberries/blueberries be better?

Both combinations sound wonderful to me!

want a real good laugh?:lmao: Yup, you guessed it I spoke to soon. The pressure got to DH and he could not resist to make our whole trip the Poly for a week. Gotta love him, I can't stop chuckling thinking about it. "He just had to stay at the Poly the whole time. " He booked the theme park view with a AAA rate!:cool1: Since we were using partial DVC points before, he moved those now to a future trip in March. (keep you posted on those changes) How can I argue, he is making good use of those APs, right?!?!?! I told him the only upgrade I expect now is concierge.

WFD- DS & I went out for Fish & Chips with my DP.

Oh Ann, you guys are going to have a great time!!!!!!!:thumbsup2 I can only dream of ever staying at the Poly....

 I was going to fix a blueberry-blackberry galette ( recipe in cooking light) but my blackberry have gone bad. Anyone know good fruit combos? Would pear & blueberries or strawberries/blueberries be better?

I saw you used blueberries and strawberries...a great combination! Blueberries, I think, work well with many fruits. One of my favorite combinations is blueberries and peaches. However, blueberries and raspberries, blueberries and strawberries, blueberries and cantelope (okay, for fruit salad not baked dishes), are all good.

I guess it was not a fair thing though, he pointed out that when he picked me up that first time there was only one child peeking out at him. Oh well..... he hates camping so the rest was all good.......for me :rotfl:

Nancy, every time you share your Buddy stories you make me laugh. I am not laughing at you or at Buddy. I can just visualize your exchanges so clearly.

Some how I've grown old:confused3

You are not alone. My birthday was in April. Beck, John and I were supposed to go out. We didn't because the weather was bad...shocking in MA in April! Then we had Beck's birthday in May...again we didn't go out. It is now July, we still haven't gone out. There is only one conclusion: we are getting old and we would rather stay in the house!

He should be excited, I have a feeling you're in store for thousands of "proud momma" moments with both Liam & Caili.:thumbsup2

Thanks, Kathy. It doesn't take a lot to make me proud, though. If they are happy and excited about their accomplishments, then I am too. Well, unless it involves Liam achieving a new level or character on his Nintendo DS games, then I am less enthusiastic.

Leslie is doing much better today. I, however, have had a doozy of a day!

Wow, Glynis, that is really scary. I am glad you are feeling better, but take it easy!

The pressure got to DH and he could not resist to make our whole trip the Poly for a week.

Your DH is a good man. Normally, it is me and Beck who do all the planning, and re-planning, and still more re-planning. You are great to take it in stride and readjust...of course, I don't think there is much complaining to do about a week at the Poly! You are going to have such a great trip.

Like I said earlier, dinner was a pasta dish. I had pasta with chicken, broccoli and a light cream sauce. Here's a pic:

Caili had plain pasta with the chicken and broccoli on the side, and Liam had the pasta with the chicken and broccoli, but without the cream sauce.
