The All-New What's For Dinner Thread!!(recipe index in OP)

Leslie is doing much better today. I, however, have had a doozy of a day! I went to Costco this morning, and as I was wandering around, I got so hot! Sweat was just dripping off me. Apparently, I looked ghastly, as people were stopping me to ask if I was ok. I managed to get to my car and home, but it was only through sheer luck that nothing happened along the way. Once home, I crashed in bed until about an hour ago. Don't know what hit me, but it was terrifying! I'm feeling much better now, and Alan is fixing mac and cheese for the kids. I think I'll have some cream of wheat!

GLYNIS!!! :scared1: That is scary!!! Be sure and mention that to your doctor next time you see him/her.

want a real good laugh?:lmao: Yup, you guessed it I spoke to soon. The pressure got to DH and he could not resist to make our whole trip the Poly for a week. Gotta love him, I can't stop chuckling thinking about it. "He just had to stay at the Poly the whole time. " He booked the theme park view with a AAA rate!:cool1: Since we were using partial DVC points before, he moved those now to a future trip in March. (keep you posted on those changes) How can I argue, he is making good use of those APs, right?!?!?! I told him the only upgrade I expect now is concierge.

WFD- DS & I went out for Fish & Chips with my DP.

The Poly was in our list of want-to-stay-at resorts but there were no CM discounts when we wanted to go, so we're stuck with AKL. I'm jealous! I really want the the Poly location this trip.

Dinner was tasty. I'm letting my 1st coat of paint dry - I already did 2 coats of primer and it's still not looking as good as I want. I may have to do 3 coats of paint instead of just 2. :headache:

I was doing laundry, went into the laundry room to throw the towels in the dryer, and there is standing water on the floor. This washer is about 5 years old, which is probably the life of one these days, but a new one was not in the budget. DH was in a hurry to mow before sundown, and I had steaks on the grill, so we haven't flipped it over yet to examine it. Like we'd know what to do anyways!

I will! It really knocked me out. I'm hoping it was just a combination of whatever bug Leslie had, plus the heat (today was the hottest day of the year so far). Since I'm now "heating for 2" as Alan says, it really got to me. Doesn't help that Costco was very hot as well!

Glynis I remember getting like that when I was pregnant. Make sure you drink alot, Being pregnant during the summer is awful. I felt like bringing a fan with me while I shopped.

Aimee I thought about painting here but it is too humid right now. Maybe your washer woos are just a hose that needs to be exchanged those are cheap and easy to do. 5 years is not old for a washer.

I didn't stay long last night mostly cause it was so warm in that room I thought I was going to be a dripping mess. I'm hoping to get to the farmers market this morning, of course it's raining here now. Why does it rain on my day off?:confused3 Dinner is up in the air I'll decide after the market.

Good thought on the washer. We're home all day today so we'll flip it over and see what we can find out.

I am up EARLY today because I have special guests coming for the day! Their names are Lucy and Kenedee and they are 8 months old. It's a favor swap. I wanted a chance to introduce my dogs to some babies and get them used to the sounds (no, not pregnant yet...) and DH is having some baby related fears so I thought spending some time with SWEET babies would help. My assistant and her DH wanted to take her older boys to Six Flags for the day and needed care for the wee ones. They should be here any minute! We'll have them until 9 or 10 tonight.

I'm making chicken tacos tonight (need to use those avocados) - and I have a sirloin steak left over from last night so I'll slice that as well.

Glynis - Hope you're feeling better.

Aimee - I was thinking the same thing about the washer, it's not that old, may be something minor. Enjoy your little guests today and have fun!!!!!

WFD - Grilled Shrimp, Veggie Kabobs and Steph's Charred Corn Relish!!

Aimee, enjoy them! Breaking in DH is "a good thing", as Martha Stewart says!

Glynis, take it easy and rest.

My Stepkids are coming over for dinner tonight.

WFD- nachos, veggies and blue cheese, oriental wings, corn on cob, chips, burgers, mac & cheese for the little ones, eclairs and peach pie.

I marinaded my wings in honey, teriyaki, orange marmalade, chopped garlic, and Thai chili paste.

My DH keeps walking around saying, "Good golly we are going to the Poly!" 58 more days but who is counting.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
Ann

Are you a Martha fan? I am!!!!

That's too funny about DH saying Good golly.......:rotfl:

The Knights start tournament play in about an hour, unfortunately it's now single elimination so one loss and we're done. The coach had a very difficult decision to make. Our short stop who plays when Kyle pitches got sick last night and can't play. Kyle is the only other player who has experience playing that position so that's where Kyle will start the game and we'll be praying our pitcher does well, if not Kyle will have to come in relief and not sure who will play short.:sad2:

That is too scarey! As others have said, be sure to tell the Dr. I wonder if your blood sugars were off or if you got dehydrated.

The two of you are too funny! Seriously though, the Poly is lovely and so convenient so I know that you will be happy.

I

Nancy, every time you share your Buddy stories you make me laugh. I am not laughing at you or at Buddy. I can just visualize your exchanges so clearly.
Thanks, Kathy. It doesn't take a lot to make me proud, though. If they are happy and excited about their accomplishments, then I am too. Well, unless it involves Liam achieving a new level or character on his Nintendo DS games, then I am less enthusiastic.

I used to see kids whose parents were not at all involved with the kids, not even to go to the sports awards. I love the proud Mama moments and hope that you continue to share them here.

I know that you are not laughing at Buddy, I would never share something here that I thought would embarrass him. We really do enjoy him and honestly he teases me a lot! He came from a family where mistakes were not allowed, people were ridiculed if they were different and strengths were not applauded unless they were the "right" strengths. Not so here. He was telling his tale of woe to his cousins and they were laughing so hard and then they told him for a man who was whining so much they had never seen him laughing so hard. (I think that was the caper thing he was still sputtering about) He does tell his friends about the WFD and that he wonders daily what I have told you all. I let him wonder but Marisa down right terrifies him :rotfl2:That's my girl :thumbsup2

Oh Aimee, you are staying in my favorite resort. The rest of the family loves the Poly and for the little one it is convenient, but Buddy and I love AKL. There is a serenity and grace about his resort that I have not felt in others. Each resort has some features that make them so special to different folks but for me, I would choose this one hands down.

Washers! Mine is 6 years old and it has it's moments. Buddy says I am doing a death dance over it but nothing could be further from the truth. I want one of those big front loaders and I know that if my set kicked the bucket tomorrow I would not be about to justify the cost so I am hoping that it just continues to muddle along.. I hope yours is just a hose. Mine sprung a leak and left water all over the floor. Buddy had just replaced them so we thought it was seals or something. Buddy replaced it and didn't the new one do the same thing! Yes it had a small leak in it as well.Good luck!

Are you a Martha fan? I am!!!!

Good luck to Kyle today!:cheer2:

Yes, I am a Martha fan, shhhhhhhhhhh! I still think she is the ultimate domestic goddess. I know she has a whole team to help her, but Rachel Ray can't hold an apron string to MS in my eyes.

I like Martha Stewart too! :)

Here are some photos from yesterday. Friday is the day I go to my farmers market. Here are some of the veggies you'll see me cooking with this week:

I made us the tomato, arugula, mozzarella, basil salads:

That turned into my main meal, with some of the baguette from the farmer's market:

I grilled a flank steak for John. There is a lot left over! I guess I will make fajitas or something. Here it is sliced on the cutting board:

John ended up adding it to his salad.

There was one more part of the meal that I don't have a picture of: corn on the cob. The corn came in at my favorite farm stand this week. I only bought four ears because they were 75 cents each and I wanted to see if it was any good--I hate when the corn is all starchy. Well, it was soooo good. It was sweet and tender and juicy and delicious! I had actually hoped to eat three of the four ears--I figured it was fair since John was having steak and I was not. But, he was on to me. He saw me eating my corn really fast, so he reached out and snagged the last ear and stuck it on the side of his plate where I could not reach it! My "cornspriracy" was busted! I am definitely getting lots of corn next week!

I have not figured out dinner yet....I'm being lazy today.

Becky, what are you going to do with those zucchini blossoms?

I was googling recipes and found this, sounds yummy. Sure you will keep us posted!

Zucchini Blossom a la Feta

INGREDIENTS
1/2 cup olive oil
4 eggs
2 cups dry bread crumbs
8 ounces feta cheese, cut into small cubes
18 zucchini blossoms

DIRECTIONS
Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
Lightly beat the eggs in a bowl. Place the bread crumbs on a dish. Insert a cube of feta cheese into each zucchini blossom. Dip the blossoms in the eggs, then dredge in the bread crumbs to lightly coat.
Fry zucchini blossoms in the skillet until golden brown.

This frittata sounded good too!

:lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao: Now you have me drooling for native corn. I have to ask Buddy to stop by our friend to see if they are picking yet.

I had a neighbor who fried squash blossoms. She never had any squash left in her garden IIRC

Tonight is the fireman's Parade and Carnival. We are going but I am not enthusiastic this year. First, it is freakin hot and second, I am avoiding fair food  so the appeal is just not there. I did not stick to my points last night at dinner, I was too excited over the fresh hot bread and spiced butter and some great big yummy Jamaican Cowboy drink thing to care so I have to at least attempt it today.

I think we will have burgers on WW rolls and cucumbers from the garden and then hit the fair.

Now you are thinking!!!! Stay focused my friend!

We used to have garlic bread a lot or fresh bread from teh bakery but not since WW. Well last night Buddy saw the basket of bread still steaming and helped himself. I almost fell off my chair :lmao::lmao: because the butter was spiced with honey and cinnamon and he is a plain no frills added guy. His expression was priceless as he tried to figure out what had gone wrong with this treat :rotfl2:

Aimee -- I hope you are having fun with your little guests! Good luck with the washer.

Did you hear how they did yet? Liam had a game this morning (not nearly as important as Kyle's, of course!) and they won 15-0. I hope the Knights fared well too!

I love the proud Mama moments and hope that you continue to share them here.

Will do. :thumbsup2

For our fall trip, we aren't going to the parks the first day. After we complete our errands, we will go to AKL to explore, then we're eating at Jiko, then we'll let the kids watch the animals through the night vision googles. We figure it will be a fun, but relaxing, way to start the trip.

I'm not sure what we're having for dinner yet. I am still recovering from Liam's game. It is so hot and humid.

I am making the squash blossoms tonight. I stuffed them with a mixture of goat cheese, parmesean cheese, basil, and pepper, and then I'll batter them and fry them. We are also having an eggplant dish wrapped around ricotta and herbs, with a fresh tomato sauce, some slow cooked broccoli, bread, and salad.

The weather is so gross today! It's incredibly humid. I' m huddled in my air-conditioned basement.

Wow 15-0, that's awesome!:thumbsup2 Haven't gotten the call yet, should be any minute now.

Hey y'all,

I saw you used blueberries and strawberries...a great combination! Blueberries, I think, work well with many fruits. One of my favorite combinations is blueberries and peaches. However, blueberries and raspberries, blueberries and strawberries, blueberries and cantelope (okay, for fruit salad not baked dishes), are all good.

Like I said earlier, dinner was a pasta dish. I had pasta with chicken, broccoli and a light cream sauce.
The blueberry/strawberry combo was a good one! I'll post the pic in a bit. Your pasta looks yummy & healthy too!

Have fun with the babies!:goodvibes

Your menu is a good thing! Love your hubby poetry! Yes it's poetry! I mean he's talking about staying at the Poly! Poetry to my ears! I love the BC, but my fav is still & probably will always be the Poly.

Where are y'all staying this trip? The plan for your 1st day sounds great! We really loved exploring AKL, the animals, the art, Jiko! Those are really good things!
