The All-New What's For Dinner Thread!!(recipe index in OP)

Alexis did talk my ear off this morning, before I even had my coffee! After I actually awake enough to ask about her trip, she said " I already told you all about that." :faint:

:lmao:

You dinner last night looks amazing!:goodvibes

Ugh. I just wrote up comments on all the chat, when the battery died.

Laura, Even in the hands of that cute boy, the recorder still scares me! ;)

Becky, The pictures are beautiful! Loved the turtle pics! Alexis wanted to know if that was the "Real Crush"!

Wendie, So glad that you are getting to spend this time with your Dad. I think talking with him will be good for both of you.

Nancy, The humidity is just really high & it's especially hot for May. We all get worried when the weathermen mention "keeping an eye on a disturbance", and it's really early in the year for that.

Lauren, Glad that A's team gets to keep playing!

We decided that enough was enough so I had to let him go. He was the sweetest little guy and I am missing him so much already. I know that this was the right thing to do, but I wish that there had been more that I could do.

I'm so sorry Nancy.

My BFF dog just passed away a couple weeks ago. He was diagnosed with cancer back in February and did fine on the meds for almost 3 months when he started to get sick again. One morning he went downstairs where no one would see him and just laid down on a pile of laundry. :sad1:

And  to those that need it! I am missing a couple posts and can't remember which ones.

Anyone here make their own mustard or mayo? I just started doing it a little while ago, and I doubt I'll ever buy store bought of either again.

No I haven't. I would try it but I am trying to cut down on mayo and I only really use mustard on hot dogs and it has to be French's yellow for that. :thumbsup2

Now one thing I had thought about trying to make was horseradish. My GM used to make that when we were little and it was good stuff. Could clear the sinus's! :scared1:

And here's one of Liam playing the dreaded recorder (I still haven't found a time to make it disappear yet...he goes back to school tomorrow though ;) ):

You could always "accidentally" step on it. :rolleyes1

Awhile back, 2 of the tiles in my shower popped up. We procrastinated and finally got someone to come look at it. He is a friend from church who has a remodeling business. LONG story short, he had to rip out the entire shower because of the water damage. Trust me, it was bad.

I know what you mean. We had a leak in the pipe in the bathtub and found out about it when the waterfall started in the family room  Had to replace half of the wallboard in the shower and fix the hole in the ceiling too. Luckily my DM called Roto Rooter and the guy only charged her $97.

For those of you who wanted to see some of the beach pictures from my trip, click here. There are about 30 photos:

Very nice. What kind of camera did you use for the underwater pictures?

Had a good weekend at my sisters. Had some good food too. Sunday night we have turkey burgers and grilled asparagus, mushrooms and also some onion for the burgers.

Yesterday we had grilled salmon, grilled shrimp, corn on the cob, watermelon and potato salad. My sis put some sort of rub on the fish and we just put the shrimp in a grill basket with a little oil and Old Bay seasoning.

Tonight will be Chinese, will pick it up on the way home. Don't feel like cooking and I have to stop at the store.

Those of you who have been to Disneyland will probably recognize this one.

Bacon Wrapped Asparagus

1 lb asparagus cut them in 1 1/2 inch sections from the tip down, disgarding the tough part.
1 lb bacon, cut into 1 1/2 inch sections

Wrap bacon around asperigus and then put onto a soaked squewer about 6 of them to a stick. BBQ or grill as desired, for the last 2 minutes brush on some maple syrup.

They sell these at Bengal BBQ in DL for $3.59 each

This is my favorite thing at Bengal BBQ!!!!! Thanks for posting this! I won't get back to DL until 2009 so this will be very welcome this summer!!!

We lost 2 friends over the weekend and the first wake is tonight so we are having ham steak on the grill and something out of a can to go with it. I think this is going to be the theme for the week. Tomorrow night is my DD's High School last softball game:sad1: Hope I do better with this one then I did with Basketball. Boy, and SHE thinks being a Senior is tough!!

Aimeedyan- Prayers to you and that childs family. I can not possibly imagine having to bury 3 children. I lost my son years ago and it was (is) the most horiffic thing I have ever been through.

have a great evening everyone

I am so sorry to hear about your losses

How old was your son? Don't answer if it's too personal

Alexis did talk my ear off this morning, before I even had my coffee! After I actually awake enough to ask about her trip, she said " I already told you all about that." :faint:

I did learn her favorite new ride was Thunder Mountain & her favorite restaurant was "The one where they cook your food at the table. The man cooked my favorite, noodles & shrimp just for me!"

Last night's dinner was delicious, another recipe I had saved from F&W cooking demo's. Wasabi Pea Crusted Tuna with Asian Pesto, soba noodle salad with roasted veggies and basil/cilantro vinagrette. We had Mai tai's with dinner.

 @ Alexis and :faint: at the dinner - gorgeous!

Kady will not do the thrill rides and that is fine with me.

Caili did go on Splash Mountain last trip...she was surprised it went fast down the hills. I don't have to worry about her going on TOT any time soon. By the time she is ready, I won't have to go with her. :thumbsup2

Just a quick check-in today is the last day of our long weekend...

I hope you enjoyed the time together.

We lost 2 friends over the weekend

I am sorry for your loss. I am also saddened to hear that you lost your son. I know it was years ago, but I imagine that is a pain that never really goes away.

Laura - Liam is so handsome!!!!!:goodvibes

Thank you (and to everyone else for the compliments)! He looks like his dad.

We got back to their house, and found that the kids had written a play for our anniversary and also made cupcakes.

Very sweet!

Too funny! Your dinner looks great. Would you share the recipe?

You could always "accidentally" step on it. :rolleyes1

Believe it or not, the thing is pretty sturdy. I'm not sure accidentally hammering it would be believable. I think I am just going to have to resort to "cleaning" his room. ;)

It was a beautiful day here until about an hour before dinner. We had pasta since it was too rainy to grill.

Only if you can convince Becky to give me the recipe for that golden curry sauce! ;)

I was trying to find the recipe online & can only find part of it. I'll have to type up or scan the recipe for the Pesto. As soon as I have it all, I'll post it for you. :goodvibes

Alexis did do Splash Mountain. She loved it, especially the getting wet part!

Sorry about the rain!

I lost a child last night. She went horseback riding with her father, opened a can of coke and the horse got spooked and took off - she fell off and was dragged (foot stuck in the stirrup). Careflighted but they couldn't save her.

I got word this morning and my heart just sank. She was 9 years old and a beautiful spirit. Put a damper on my morning...

Pray for her family. Her parents were seperated and this was a dad activity - he is not doing well. They buried stillborn twins just 2 years ago so this is their 3rd child to bury. They have 9 total, she was one of the oldest and was best friends with her 10 year old sister.

Oh my -- they just had a story on Ch. 8 about her. What a darling little girl. Prayers being sent to that family. Are you close to Benbrook?

Laura Would he believe a freak airplane accident? You could borrow my Minnie she is pretty distructive:thumbsup2 She has eaten the left eyes of almost all of Alex stuffed animals. I don't have any idea why just the left eye :confused3 she is a strange little dog with anger issues.

LauraG I'm sorry that you have suffered such losses. I remember my MIL saying there is nothing like the pain of burying one of your own.

Ok yesterday we had nice warm temps in the low 80's today we never made it to 55 what is going on. Where is the global warming?

Lauri- I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I also am sad to hear that you have lost a child, I have no idea how one survives that. My MIL has lost her DH and 3 of her 4 children. Her strength is amazing, the two of you have this in common.

Sheryl- goodness! That dinner looks to die for. :lmao::lmao: Chatty Cathy and her trip report before your coffee is above the call of Nana Duty :lmao:

Laura- Jeff said that Kady should be able to go on Splash Mountain this year. I'll tell her that Caili went too :thumbsup2

Gregg- I am going to visit DL for the first time in September. I have been checking out the restaurants so your bacon wrapped asparagus in on my list :thumbsup2

Glynis- what a fun weekend you had! Yesterday sounds like a perfect day :thumbsup2

Merle- a friend used to make horseradish around Easter every year. It was so good. My FIL used to make his own as well, he would make it in the back yard because the fumes used to make his eyes water. If that happens...it is good stuff :cool1:

Becky- Your pictures make me want to visit St John. They are stunning!

We had weird weather today. It was humid all morning into early afternoon then the heavy weather came. There was cloud to ground lightening downstate, but we were lucky...no hail either.

Dinner was good. Marisa is our mew grill master so I have plenty of grill food planned.

I want her to give it to me too, so if she won't post it, I will!

Laura Would he believe a freak airplane accident? You could borrow my Minnie she is pretty distructive:thumbsup2

I wouldn't wish a recorder on any household. I would send it to you, and your dog would somehow learn how to play it, and then you would hate me.

Laura- Jeff said that Kady should be able to go on Splash Mountain this year. I'll tell her that Caili went too :thumbsup2

Caili is a huge ride wimp...she takes after her mom :rolleyes1 ...and while she was quite nervous about the fast drops, she liked the ride enough to want to try it again next trip. She also likes Soaring now, which she did not like the first time she went on it...like I said, ride wimp.

this one is good too if you like spicy from the Bengal BBQ

Sounds great! Thanks for the mustard recipe too.

Wendie -- I meant to say in my last post that I'm glad you are enjoying the time with your dad. I am sure there will be difficult moments and memories, but I think you will both benefit from the time together.

Oh my -- they just had a story on Ch. 8 about her. What a darling little girl. Prayers being sent to that family. Are you close to Benbrook?

Yeah, the media caught onto it - I guess because it was such a freak accident kind of thing. I am S of FW, but not in Benbrook. Her family live NE FW but evidently kept their horses there.

Family visitation is tomorrow evening, I will go after I teach my Wed night kids class, and Thurs afternoon is the funeral. :sad1:

That looks delicious! Thanks!

My DH asked me tonight why I don't buy jarred sauce anymore - he evidently thinks Prego is better than homemade :headache: I told him it was cheaper this way and I liked it so THERE!

quick post......if I could ask for some thoughts and prayers for Kris' grandmother that would be so kind of all of you.....we just got word that she has days to a week or two at most left, the Dr went to see her tonight. They have hospice coming in and Kris' aunt from california will be here Thursday and his other Aunt from Oregon will be in over the weekend.
I pray that she goes fast and with dignity.

Thank you all so much!

Morning all,

not sure what we are having tonight, I forgot to take something out of the freezer before I left (oops!). Leaving work early today for Crystal's last game and another wake so will be a busy evening...again.

Aimeedyan- my son was 3 months when he died. He was a twin, his twin sister is 16.

Hersey- Your MIL is right, my mother told me "anything after this will be a piece of cake" Boy was she right

nancyg56- Your MIL is amazing, I cannot imagine how that poor woman does it.

liamandcaili-you're right it never goes away, it is something that you learn to live with.

The Hat- Prayers and  to her family and friends. I will be praying for all of those involved.

Good Morning,

Quick check in again and I will get back on later to catch up.

Wendie, Prayers for Kris' Grandma.

We are having the cheeseburgers we were supposed to have last night. The ground beef was not defrosted in time so I just threw together some pasta, meatballs, left over sausage and a tossed salad.

Have a great day!

Wendie - I will keep you all in my prayers.

Anyone seen the new couple on the Food Network, The Neely's? They crack me up! I'm trying a new recipe of their's "Get Yo Man Chicken" tonight.:lmao:
