The All-New What's For Dinner Thread!!(recipe index in OP)

Super quick morning checkin...I have a nail appt in an hour to get ready for.

Thank you all for the nice thoughts on spending time with my dad. He looked the same and also totally different when I first saw him as he got to baggage, where we were waiting. When he saw us his face just changed, almost like he could take a deep breath for the first time in awhile. It broke my heart. I have to tell you I did hug him really tight! He has been alone for 4months, so being here is doing him a world of good. (me too)
I am loving having him here, and will miss him something wicked when he goes back, but that is making me appreciate every day I have with him.

I took him down to see his mother yesterday, and they had a nice visit, dad gets nervous and doesn't like to stay long(anxiety issues I guess) but this was the longest and nicest visit he has had with her since he moved.

He has been cleaning junk off of my computer for me, (he does this every time he comes, it drives him crazy all the crap I put on it, lol)
He has spent a lot of time talking about my mom, and as hard as it is for me to listen to, I know he needs to be able to talk about this over and over again to heal. I just listen and when I shower at night, I cry then. I miss her so much, I can't even begin to understand how much he does.

I am happy to hear that everyone had a nice weekend. I just skimmed over the posts.
Aimee--I am so sorry for the loss of the child from your church. My prayers have been sent for all of you.
Becky--The photos are UNREAL!! Thanks for the mushroom sammy recipe, sounds yummy and EASY!
To all who are in baseball mode with their boys----everyone seems to be doing so well, must be all the good food they are getting fed!;)
Kat--I am so proud of Kyle being asked to "tutor" pitching! The doors that are waiting to open for him are going to be something else, I am glad I get to stand on the side and watch it happen!
Sheryl--Glad that Bob got to ride around in the Vette, he must have had a blast! I can't wait to hear how disney was from Alexis' point of view!
Nancy--How do you make SPag. salad? I have never heard of it. Sounds good though!
Janice--I had to chuckle over the thought of your poor soggy cat.

Time is up for me.....I missed some and I will catch back up later on. Have a great day all!!! You are all the best!

Supper tonight is steak fajitas( I think this is spelled wrong, ugh) with something else on the side.
Last night I took Ross and dad out to Ruby Tuesdays...they both have b-days in May so we celebrated them again last night;) Kris had to work putting docks and boat lifts in.

Wendie - So happy to hear that you & your Dad are enjoying your time together, cherish it my friend.

This is not a good sign - hurricane season doesn't officially begin until Sunday but there's already a disturbance out there.:worried:

Hi everyone!

I use the Schillings Supreme mixture but I make my own. The one in the jar is way too expensive for me.
I double the original recipe and use it all, but you can adjust the amount for your own taste.

1 pound WW pasta, I use thin spaghetti, if using white pasta i like Farfalle
12 oz FF Italian dressing
5 cups fresh veggies, I use more yesterday I used zucchini, summer squash, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, broccoli, peppers

Add dressing to veggies and let marinate while past cooks to al dente
Drain pasta and add veggies and schillings , mix well and let stand in fridge a few hours.
This is very pretty served in a large pasta bowl, and it is a hit. Adjust seasonings for you family

I hope that everyone enjoyed their day yesterday.

Kathy- did you say that there is already a disturbance in the area?????? This is not good. I saw Sheryl's post that the humidity is sky high and never like to see it like that. In our area it can mean a storm coming in.

Gregg- I make my own mayo once in a while, it is soooooo good.

Wendie- it is so soon to be talking about your Mom, but I agree that your Dad needs to share his thoughts with you. He has had to keep them inside too long.

Lauren- Growing pains affect boys brains ;). Patience is all you have going for you, I'm afraid.

Lindsay- I fel your pain! When we did our bathroom over Buddy was shocked to see what was under the sheet rock. It is a wonder that I was not left perched on the furnace when I took a bath, it was that bad. Good news is that you get a new bathroom :thumbsup2

Laura- you can overlook a lot when the recorder is played by that handsome young man. I would still get rid of it though. Too bad about the game. I bet he felt badly, I know that Debbie and Kim always held themselves to a higher standard than any one else did and it always seemed as though the bases were loaded with two out when one of them stepped up :confused3

ugadog- good to see you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sheryl- I bet Bob enjoyed the afternoon tooling around in that gorgeous vet!

Good for Alexis! Kady will not do the thrill rides and that is fine with me. She has told DD and DSIL that she is ready for some of them but i don;t want to be the one next to her. Get ready for a breathless little girl with lots to share, she is going to talk like a whirlwind, I bet!

Janice- I am squawking about those darn smilies too!

Yesterday we had a nice day. The food was good and the day was quiet.

Today DD is home from work so she is running errands. SHe wanted to weigh in before a check up today, but her Dr will see the excellent progress she made so far :thumbsup2 We have a weigh in tonight so I think we will have the leftover salads from yesterday along with some grilled pork cutlets and grilled chicken. I may make a green salad for Buddy.

I have to share that I am stunned by Marisa and Erica. Debbie works at Healthtrax and is a fitness fanatic. She facilitates a power lifting class and the girls took it. They could not move the next day but they have been going back to the gym anyway and plan to take the class again on Thursday. Both said that they have never seen anything like Deb. In our family she is the moving Buddy of choice but DD said that she could see why during that class.

Hi Ladies,

Just a quick check-in today is the last day of our long weekend...so I have not been on the computer very much.

Hugs to everyone with bad things going on in their lives.

Glynis, Happy Belated Anniversary!

I scanned quickly and once again Becky and Laura left me in awe!:thumbsup2

We are having a nice relaxing weekend so far.

WFD- I am making sweet & sour chicken and fried rice. (chicken recipe is a little long, but I will try to post later in the week)

Ann

Dinner tonight will be left over spaghetti pie from yesterday (tonight I will serve it warm with some sauce on the side), salad & grilled hot sausage.

I hope everyone had a nice weekend. We just stayed home and relaxed, enjoying the great weather we had.
Nancy- I'm sorry about Buster, we are in that process with my parents dog (got him when I was in high school) and he just means the world to us. This will be my dd's first experience with death, and I don't think I will be much help. I know it's like loosing a family member (they are family) so my thoughts are with you.

Dinner was going to be leftover steak tips, but there isn't as much left as I thought, so I might turn them into fajitas- or have them for lunch.

Nancy -- thank you, thank you, thank you! It must have been your recipe I used on Sunday. Here's the recipe posted on this thread a few weeks ago:

Salad Supreme Seasoning Recipe #24917

This is a copycat recipe for Schilling Salad Supreme. Use the entire recipe if making Mysterygirl's Linguini Salad in place of the 1/2 a jar that is called for in the recipe. It would be good mixed with italian dressing on vegetables too.
by Mysterygirl
5 min | 1/4 cup 1 1/2 teaspoons sesame seeds 1 teaspoon paprika 3/4 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon poppy seeds 1/2 teaspoon celery seeds 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder 1/4 teaspoon coarse ground black pepper 1 dash cayenne pepper 2 tablespoons romano cheese (optional)
1. Combine all ingredients and mix well.
2. Store in a sealable container in the fridge.

ANGEL HAIR PASTA SALAD
Printed from COOKS.COM
1 lb. Angel Hair pasta or cappoloni
1 (16 oz.) Kraft Zesty Italian dressing
1/2-3/4 jar Schilling Salad Supreme
1/2 c. Parmesan cheese
Zucchini
Tomatoes
Peppers
Onion
Carrots
Celery
Cucumbers
Etc.
Dice the vegetables. Mix with remaining ingredients.

I couldn't find Schillings and didn't have the recipe with me, but I found a seasoning called "Vegetable Seasoning" that I used. When I checked the label, it was almost identical to the seasoning recipe above and it wasn't very expensive.

I cut up all the veggies and marinated them in the dressing/seasoning overnight. I then added wheat capellini. All the adults loved it!

Tonight we are having the rest of the fried chicken (cold), a tomato-mozzarella-basil salad, and some crusty bread.

We lost 2 friends over the weekend and the first wake is tonight so we are having ham steak on the grill and something out of a can to go with it. I think this is going to be the theme for the week. Tomorrow night is my DD's High School last softball game:sad1: Hope I do better with this one then I did with Basketball. Boy, and SHE thinks being a Senior is tough!!

Glynis- Happy Anniversay!!

TigerKat- Glad to see Kyle is still playing ball. I miss watching Crystal play already!

Aimeedyan- Prayers to you and that childs family. I can not possibly imagine having to bury 3 children. I lost my son years ago and it was (is) the most horiffic thing I have ever been through.

Good luck to all that are still playing ball. When I start to having withdrawl from not going to games mind if I show up at one of yours?:lmao:

Hi friends -

Tonight is spaghetti and garlic bread. It looks like it's the only night this week I'll be home to cook. =( DH is now at home looking for a job so he will have to pick up some cooking this week.

It's not in the area, I get nervous when they start popping up in the Caribbean... I wanted to put a certain smilie here but I CAN'T FIND IT..:rolleyes1

Hi, everyone! Sounds like you all had great holidays yesterday. We did, too. Unfortunately, it rained all day long. We drove to the cemetery where my grandparents are buried, and stopped long enough to put some flowers on their graves. Then it was on to our friends house.

We spent the day with our best friends. Alan and Bryce barbecued hamburgers and hot dogs, and we also had Dr. Pepper Baked Beans, chips, veggies and dips.

After lunch, we left all the kids at their house, and the 4 adults went to see Indiana Jones. It was a pretty good movie, but there were some intense moments for me. After the movie, we browsed in Borders and I was able to find a couple of books to take on the plane next weekend. Later, we went to dinner at Ruby Tuesday. It was a fun day, and we had a blast! We got back to their house, and found that the kids had written a play for our anniversary and also made cupcakes. It was darling! I just wish that we had videotaped the "play." It was hysterical! We left their house by 9:00, and rolled into our house by 11:00. It was a late night, but it was worth it!

Today starts our last week of school, and to my mind, it's a throw away week! The twins had a teddy bear picnic today, Jacob had field day, and Katie had classroom clean up day. Tomorrow is the twins field day, and Jacob's classroom clean up, while Katie gets to have 5th grade market day. Thursday is the 5th grade water day, kindergarten clean up and Jacob will have movie day. Friday they go from 8:45 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., and then they will be done! Yikes! Where did the day go?

Dinner tonight will be rigatoni with cheese and sausage. Yummy!

Afternoon Y'all,

LaurieG, So sorry to hear of your loss of two friends over the weekend. That must be awful. I can't imagine the pain that must bring back for you. Prayers for you.

Alexis did talk my ear off this morning, before I even had my coffee! After I actually awake enough to ask about her trip, she said " I already told you all about that." :faint:

I did learn her favorite new ride was Thunder Mountain & her favorite restaurant was "The one where they cook your food at the table. The man cooked my favorite, noodles & shrimp just for me!"

Last night's dinner was delicious, another recipe I had saved from F&W cooking demo's. Wasabi Pea Crusted Tuna with Asian Pesto, soba noodle salad with roasted veggies and basil/cilantro vinagrette. We had Mai tai's with dinner. Here's a pic of dinner:
