The All-New What's For Dinner Thread!!(recipe index in OP)

Lots to do this weekend! I can't believe our trip is almost here!

Have a great weekend and Happy Anniversary to you and Alan!

My neighbor and I are doing a kid swap/movie night tonight. Caili is going to her house to watch Little House on the Prairie episodes with her daughters, and her son is coming here to watch Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets with Liam. We're getting pizza, so no cooking for me tonight.

That sounds awesome! Have a fun time!

Kathy- It is kinda nice knowing you relate to my pain. DS was born an uncle. I am a step-nanny to a 2 1/2 year old. This recent drama has subsided for now anyway. Minor in the comparsion to other things I guess, :sad2: but sometimes it seems like drama never stops and we are always picking up the pieces.

I am always here if you need to vent.

I have Andrew home today sick...tryin to make a dr apoint for later.

Tom is off today.

An I have to go get blood drawn. I have been neglecting my thyroid and have not kept up with going for blood work.

Kat, Good luck to Kyle!!! I checked the website for the baseball academy here and they do not list prices. If you want me to call them I will.

Yikes! Both guys home and getting blood drawn. Hope Andrew gets better soon.

No need to call. Kyle is talking with his three coaches en route to Jackson this morning about it and hopefully they can give him some good advice. Thanks for the offer anyway.:goodvibes

Most pitching coaches around here (suburbs of DFW) charge $30 per half hour, up to around $60 in the more aflluent areas. I sure wish we were closer so Andrew and Jake could benefit from his experience. I hope he does well on the road trip.

They would be professionals...yes?

That's the great part about this, Kyle is just a HS graduate whose first interest is helping the kids, the money is really not an issue with him. But I told him that he does need to mature a bit in his thinking. As Laura said, if he charges too little, folks will wonder why and what are they getting for their money.

My stomach is still not back to normal but I'm not living in the bathroom as much. I called my Dr. this AM and they said it's a bad bug going around that lasts anywhere from 24-72 hours.

Becky - Can't wait for your photos!

Glynis - For you and Alan:

Becky, You know I'm anxiously awaiting your vacation photos! Can we see food pics & a few of those gorgeous beaches too! Pleeeze!

That noodle bowl looks awesome! Do you have a recipe for that, or can tell me all what's in there? Is that nori strips?

I post a link to some beach pictures once I have them finalized. Probably tomorrow morning.

The rice bowl has shiitake mushrooms, spinach, bean sprouts, zucchini, carrots, onions, garlic, sesame seeds and chili garlic paste. Basically, all I did was cook some sushi rice (well rinsed), then sauteed the vegetables one at a time in a little sesame oil (so I could display them in the bowl, you could do them all at once). Top it off with an egg and some chili garlic paste and that's it! :)

Hmmm, cat gravy, eh? I will definitely look into that. Since we are now feeding him twice a day, I wanted to stretch that cat food so that's what I bought the dry. Do you happen to know if I can find the gravy at Target, or do I have to go to Petco or somewhere like that?

Nah, you can get it at the grocery store or Target.

Well, DH is out of a job on Tuesday. They are laying everyone off, he gets severence but it won't last long. I'm skeered. :sad1:

I'm making that maple turkey with green beans and maybe stuffing.

I'll keep your husband in my prayers that he will be able to find something soon, and close!

 Hugs and prayers for you & your DH! :flower3: I'll be praying he finds something really fast!

Tonight I had 2 vegetarian sausages, some bread and a side salad. Was really yummy and then I finished with a slice of carrot cake that I made yesterday evening.

And welcome Natalie. :)

The turkey burger/meatloaf recipe was fabulous!!! The cranberry chutney was so yummy with it! Next time, I'm doubling the amount of the chutney though. It needed a bit more in the meat mixture. It worked really well as a meatloaf, and I got no complaints from the kids. Well, they weren't too sure about the apple chunks, but once they tasted it, they were hooked! This one is a keeper, for sure!

Night everyone. My bed and a good book are calling me.

Oh you used cranberry chutney...I'll have to try that instead of the mango I used! Whole Foods here I come!

And WFD, I have no clue. Busy day at work today and, depending on when I am done, I'm heading to my sisters for the weekend either tonight or first thing tomorrow.

Tonight's my favorite for dinner- Leftovers! I do need to make a big salad to stretch it though.

To add to the wet/dry cat food debate- we only feed our cat dry food, the wet was ruining his teeth. He drink plenty of water, he likes the dogs water dish, so even if he is doing it just to tick off the dog, I know he's getting water. Also "your" cat is getting animals to eat.

Thanks again for the book help. I never read the Little House books, so I never thought of them. She is reading Black Stallion and Black Beauty now, I don't know how she keeps them straight. She really just wants to read Magic Tree House books, she knows she is at a different level than all but 1 in her class, and she just want's to be like them. It's tough being a little kid.

Aimee- Good luck to your future fireman.

Have a good weekend everyone. My husband only has to work a short day tommorow, then the 3 of us are going to just relax. You know you work to much when a 2-day weekend is a long weekend. So, thank you all for keeping me company.

It was so yummy! Thank you for the recipe! Alan said it was like Thanksgiving dinner all in one bite. The turkey burger, with the cranberry chutney. Add to that the green onions and the apple are what I use in my stuffing. He was sorely disappointed that there weren't any leftovers for lunch today. Next time I'm not halving the recipe, I'll make it as is, since I now know everyone likes it!

Aimee -- I hope your DH finds something new soon.

The other kids will catch up. Liam is in third grade, and this is the first year all the children are reading chapter books. They are also recommending books to each other.

What about Charlotte's Web? Your daughter's friends who are reading the Magic Treehouse books could read that, and after they all read it, they could watch the movie together. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was another favorite here. When my kids were first getting into chapter books, I would read them aloud, and then they would reread the ones they really liked to themselves.

Lauren -- Is Andrew feeling better?

Kathy -- Tell Kyle, from me, that junior high babysitters, who plunk the kids in front of the TV for hours, make more than $10 an hour here, so he better be charging a lot more for prime pitching instruction! I would think Kyle could ask for $25-30/hour at least, and get it. I hope you are feeling better!

The boys are having a great time watching Harry Potter. I had to remove myself from the scene because I was laughing too hard at their comments. One of the boys keeps asking Liam if it is a scary part. Liam has never seen the movie.

I am feeling much better, thanks. I agree with your pricing on the pitching lessons and it's falling right in line with what we're hearing.:thumbsup2
