The All-New What's For Dinner Thread!!(recipe index in OP)

The hot dogs were on sale for $2.49. :woohoo: I bought some week before last at TJ's for almost $4.

Wow, that's a great deal! They are $4.99 here.

Wild King Salmon with Dried Cherries and Smoked Almond Beurre Noisette

Sheryl, that looks terrific! I am definitely making this.

So glad David Cook won American Idol!!!!!!!:cheer2: :dance3: :yay:

Me too! I like David A, but David Cook was my favorite contestant this season.

somehow I think we have failed the food pyramid test......

You've been so busy, it is amazing you have time to eat! You must be getting so excited to see your dad.

We have a little drama we are dealing with with my DSD....uggggggggggggh, kids!

It sounds like someone else is suffering from Teenager. I hope things improve!

Hey guys! Long time no see!

It's nice to hear from you. I hope you have a good trip and get a little time to relax.

Isn't the rule that you add together everything the whole family ate and do an average? ;)

That sounds like a good rule to me! :thumbsup2

Good morning everyone! Another rainy day here! After our summerlike temps the last little while, it seems odd to have the heat back on.

I had to turn ours back on today too. Your chicken recipe sounds good.

Laura- I thought Harry Potter would be a little to old for her. She's a strong reader so it's hard to find books to challenge her, just because she is capable of reading something doesn't mean she should.

Becky can certainly attest to this. She read Dracula when she was seven. She was :scared1: .

When I was trying to get Liam out of the Magic Treehouse and Secrets of Droon series, his teacher suggested giving him lots of nonfiction and magazines (we get Ask, Muse, Ranger Rick, My Big Backyard, Highlights and Sports Illustrated Kids) to build vocabulary and then fiction that wasn't as formulaic and predictable.

Has she read Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH? Liam and Caili both loved that one. The next series for Liam is the Wrinkle in Time series. That would be appropriate for your daughter. The Narnia books would be good too, if she hasn't read them already. I really liked the Wizard of Oz series at that age. They would be an easier read than the others, but they are imaginative and feature some strong, young heroines.

We had to move the 90 gallon fish tank across the room.

Wow! I am jealous. I want a giant fish tank. (I don't want to have to move it though ;) )

Kathy -- I hope you are feeling better. The index is perfect.

I have to go to Liam's recorder concert shortly. :headache: I am usually a crier, but I think I can leave the tissues behind today.

We didn't get to have the burgers last night because the propane filling station was closed by the time we got there. I got fried clams from the fish market instead. That means tonight is burgers.

I am glad Alan is OK. :) When are you leaving for London? That is going to be so exciting...Becky may want to go along with you...;)

HAVE A GREAT DAY ALL!

Katie and I leave for the airport at 10:00 p.m. June 1st. We have a red eye to JFK, then leave for London the next morning. I think we have a couple hour layover at JFK, then we are first class across the pond, baby!!! The airline screwed up our tickets, so to compensate, they are giving us first class on that leg! Wish it was first class on the way back, too! Maybe they'll take pity on my sister and me; 2 women alone with their daughters...it'll be worth a try!

I read the Phantom of the Opera when I was 8. I had to sleep with the light on for a couple of months. It really freaked me out!

I would also add the Little House on the Prairie series to your list. Those are great books for girls. Katie read those all when she was 7 and loved them. Anne of Green Gables is a great series as well.

Katie also liked the Fairy books based on the new Disney fairies. She still will pick them up and read them. They are cute.

LUCAS, I LOVE your ticker!!! :thumbsup2

LAURA, Don't be jealous of the tank. It really is alot of work (although they have been neglected since the remodel - a few babies were also born during this time)...we have community fish in there now but we also have an empty 30 gallon tank that we may do Chiclids in...they are really pretty but don't get along with alot of other fish. But then again, maybe we'll Craigslist the 30!!!

Lauren, You must really be sick of remodeling by now! Happy that your floors are going in, that must mean you're getting close to finishing. That marinade you're using, is that a recipe or a packaged product?

Yes, I am pretty sick of this but we are getting closer. So maybe in a months time we will be done. Now I get try and figure out furniture.

The marinade is a Lawry's. I hope its good in the beef...it says it is. It has tabasco seasoning, lemon, garlic and onion.

I'm taking the usuals - Pepto & Imodium, but this bug just needs to work it's way out.:guilty:

 I really hope it works out quickly.

Katie and I leave for the airport at 10:00 p.m. June 1st. We have a red eye to JFK, then leave for London the next morning.

Wow, that will be here before you know it! I love when the airlines screw up. They had to change our last flights to Disney and they gave each of us a $200 voucher to use (we are for our next trip :goodvibes )!

It sounds like someone else is suffering from Teenager. I hope things improve!
... That means tonight is burgers.

Poor choices at age 22...I wish I could say it was a teenage thing and she didnt know better. Well, lesson learned right?! :sad2: The hard way.

Burgers...I am sending DH right over, he would eat them every night if I allowed.

Ann

Don't feel too bad, could be worse:hug: , my stepson is 26 and just keeps making one bad decision after another. He's got 3 babies under the age of 4.:sad2:

I am actually going to make that stuffed chicken tonight. It's good TV night, DH is out with the boys (basketball, beer, and Indiana Jones are on their agenda :confused3 ) so I have the house to myself. :cool1:

I forgot Indiana Jones comes out this weekend! I never got to see one in the theaters. My dd loved the stunt show at MGM and she want's to see it but she's a little to young for it.
Laura- I loved Mrs. Frisby, I forgot we just got that book at a library sale, so I dug it out. She's already made a good dent in it. I also found The Secret of NIHM movie tucked away. She loves the Magic Tree house books, but has been reading them since she was 4, she just needs a push to branch out.
Glynis- She has Little House in the Big Woods, I think that's the same author, so maybe that will be next. She loved the disney fairy books and still reads them for fun.
The good news is I figured out dinner. Spaghetti and meatballs, perfect for a cool, damp night.
Thanks for all the book help!

Wow, that's a great deal! They are $4.99

I found them the cheepest at TJ's, another store had them for $4.99. Then yesterday I decided to look at the grocery store near my house, to check and see if they may have had the Oscar Meyer low fat beef franks and found the HN on sale.

Some good books for kids are EB White's Stuart Little, Charlotte's Web and The Trumpet of the Swan. Also I loved Nancy Drew and Trixie Belden.

That was the first book by Laura Ingalls Wilder. Her others are

Farmer Boy about her husband's childhood on a farm in New York
Little House on the Prairie
On the Banks of Plum Creek
By the Shores of Silver Lake
The Long Winter
Little Town on the Prairie
These Happy Golden Years

Penny has been renamed P.C. I used to call Penny "P.C.", short for "Penny Cat." Now it's just P.C. He hasn't complained.

We seemed to have fallen into a routine this week. Between 6:30-7:30 he shows up on my back porch and stares through the door. He comes back between 3:30-4:30 and does the same. Usually after his evening feeding he will stretch up against the house and nap.

Check it out:

Ahem, I think a cat officially has us. :lmao:

My husband had to run to the store yesterday. I had him pick up a bag of Meow Mix and a 2-sided feeding dish. I think P.C. prefers the wet cat food over the dry, but he's eating it.

I decided to try Nancy's Greek Potatoes tonight...Oh my, they smell wonderful and they are only in the oven for not even 10 minutes!!!

It took me a while to find the recipe...I searched for it and almost found it, then the laptop battery died...then I found it and wanted to post the link here for the future and my connection to the DIS dropped!

Anyway, yummy!!!

Poor choices at age 22...I wish I could say it was a teenage thing and she didnt know better. Well, lesson learned right?! :sad2: The hard way.

Don't feel too bad, could be worse:hug: , my stepson is 26 and just keeps making one bad decision after another. He's got 3 babies under the age of 4.:sad2:

Hugs to both of you!

*********
Lindsay, yeah, you got a cutie there. He would fit right in here...Most of my outside cats are black and black and white.

He may not like the food but he will get used to it...don't quote me on this but I think dry food is better for them anyway.

I adored Trixie Belden!!! I'm so thrilled that they are being re-released! I have a few gaps in my collection, and am not willing to pay e-bay prices.

Kathy- Wow, I did not realize that you were still feeling badly. I think you got so run down and so emotionally drained you were a setup for any bug that decided to bite. Get better soon!

Wendie- I generally don't wish bad on anyone, not even your MIL, but I don't feel compelled to feel sad when Karma bites them in the butt.

Well, I finally decided what to make for dinner tonight. Lately, I have to wait and see how I'm feeling before I commit to anything.

Are you still having morning sickness? It is a good thing your DD wants to learn to cook. You have such yummy recipes and she will enjoy spending that time with you.

Aimee, the chicken was delicious.
YUMM!

Here's the pic. I served it with roasted curried sweet potatoes and roasted asparagus & bell peppers.

Sheryl- that looks amazing!

DBF is leaving in the morning to go on a weekend long fishing (ha-ha they have yet to bring any home) trip with a bunch of friends. YIPEE!!! It's not that I don't love him right to death but a weekend by myself is gonna be great! I have a whole list of things that I am going to try and accomplish, invites for the grad party, quilting, working in the yard, cleaning, and thanks to you guys I might have to try some of these yummy recipes or it's gonna be takeout all weekend.

I get you! I have been trying to ship Buddy off with his friend for years and cannot get him to go. I told him I would pay for him to drag him away for a weekend!

Hey guys! Long time no see! Sorry I have been absent for a bit. I've had one day off in the past two weeks and tomorrow we're leaving for a wedding in Ohio. It's been extremely busy. So that also means, not much good cooking around here--it's been convience meals or take out! Hope to keep up better in June!

I missed you! Have fun at the wedding!

Glynis, I did not realize it was so close. What a wonderful trip the four of you are going to have.

I decided to try Nancy's Greek Potatoes tonight...Oh my, they smell wonderful and they are only in the oven for not even 10 minutes!!!
*********

They are really good!

I am not cooking tonight. I am doing the prep for a colonoscopy and like to be alone with my misery so DD adn Kady are off to Healthtrax to take a class that my niece is facilitating. Buddy is meeting his cousin and I suggested he eat out. No food here if I can only have jello!

I know that I missed so much but I lost half of my multiquote things.

Talk to you all soon!

Well, it's time to put the turkey burgers together. I couldn't find any mango chutney around here today, but I did find some cranberry chutney. Do you guys think that will work. I would think it would complement the turkey....yes?

I'd think the cranberry would work great!

Kyle leaves tomorrow morning for his first road trip to Jackson, MS with the Louisiana Knights baseball team!!! I'm praying he doesn't come down with what I have while he's there.

He also has his "first client".....he was approached by a couple of Little League coaches and asked if he'd have time to give private pitching lessons to some 12 yr old boys. He's really excited about it, although he asked me how much he should charge.....How am I supposed to know?:confused3

Well, the kids vetoed the hamburgers, so I added some bread crumbs to the turkey burger mix and put it in a loaf pan for a meatloaf. After it's cooked for a while, I'll top it with the rest of the cranberry chutney. It sure smells good! I think my kids were turned off by the apples in the burger mix. I should have put it together when they weren't around. We'll see how the meatloaf works out. Wish me luck! Hey, does this mean I've Nanatized a recipe???? Nancy????

Laura, If you fix the salmon, I would recommend basting the fish with the sauce right at the end. I didn't think of it, until after I took it off the grill! I think that would take it from great to awesome!

Oooh Nooo, the dreaded Recorder Concert!!! I feel your pain! ;)

Now that's a GREAT airline screwup! :thumbsup2 Wow, y'all are going to have such a great time!!! :goodvibes

Kathy, I don't think I knew you even had a stepson! Probably my CRS, but I sure don't remember you moaning about him! Sorry to hear, that he's not making the best decisions!

:cool1: Woohoooo! That's really good news about Kyle getting his first "client"!!! Way to go Kyle!:thumbsup2
