The All-New What's For Dinner Thread!!(recipe index in OP)

Sheryl, Hope you feel better. The weather is yucky here so Andrew was suffering this AM with his sinuses. Glad Alexis and family are having fun....NOW, I have to ask...Did they like Raglan?

***************
I have to tell you guys, this roast chicken in the crockpot is smelling up the house and it smells wonderful! :goodvibes The whole chicken comes out so moist in the crock...the only thing is the skin doesn't crisp but its bad for ya anyway.

I am so excited about dinner...OK, enough about food...off to the treadmill! :upsidedow

Thanks Lauren, I'm guessing it's my sinuses making me dizzy, it's hard to tell since I always have sinus problems, good or bad weather. Sorry to hear Andrew's having sinus troubles, too.

Chris had called last night on their way to RR. I told her to ask for a table near stage & they got one in between the stage & the dancer! Sounds like they are having a pretty magical trip. She said Alexis was a little bored & cranky, but once the dancing started she was happy. They loved the music, danicing & the food! They had the sausage apptz., Fish & chips, the pork loin. Of course I told her not to pass up the bread pudding & they loved it!

Hope your weekend trip was nice, sorry you were sick!

Thanks to all for the Congrats! The graduation ceremony was very nice last night, of course I cried a river, Johnny even teared up. One glitch, I hate my camera, it's a cheapo and it's messed up. I think I managed a couple of pics that actually came out. Thankfully there was a professional photographer there so we can purchase some good ones.

WFD - The Creamy Ranch Chicken that Rogue posted, pasta and a veggie.:goodvibes

We had a great time! :) I didn't get sick until we got home (not yesterday but the previous Monday night). The last 2 times we've gone to WDW, I've gotten sick after we returned. I think it's like being on an airplane - so many people coughing and sneezing. :confused3

Laura- My daughter is 7, do you think Harry Potter books are appropriate for her, content wise? I know she is capable of reading them, but I'm not sure what they are like.
Tonights dinner will be some kind of chicken, maybe with peanut dipping sauce. Some green beans on the side and I still need to find a starch.

Hey ya'll!

I think I've finished my work for today (unless the slavedriver DH finds me more:lmao: )!

I think I'm a couple inches shorter- we treadmilled for an hour on Sunday and half hour last night and my shins are killing me. I thought I was going to cry about 10 minutes into last night- but I hobbled through it. I'm not going to let Rick outdo me now that I got him up and moving!

Last night was organic split pea soup and warm German potato salad. Lunch today was german red cabbage and some tuna.

Dinner tonight is shrimp, salad, and maybe the butternut squash soup I meant to have yesterday.

Now, what I'd really like to have is fried chicken or Cracker Barrel.:sad2:

I haven't figured out how to make things I should eat taste like things I want to eat.

However I do have a funny for ya.:lmao: Rick told me yesterday that I eat the strangest, most bland, food ever. If it tastes like dirt I'd eat it. WTH?!? You (Rick) eat beets that's like sucking down potting soil! And I eat weird things?!? (All this came on because of the butternut squash soup- he doesn't like that, who knew?:confused3 ) So, for dessert last night he got a package of gummi worms I found at the place next door.

And he was told(insert Nancy voice here)"if you don't like it go make yourself a sandwich"

I think he got the point.:rolleyes1

I am more selfish than most...I manage to "forget" on a daily basis to remind him to do his 15 minutes of practice. Once the recital is over, the recorder is going to mysteriously disappear. :rolleyes1

:lmao: :lmao: Hailey has one too. The therapists use it for her oral motor, but she loves it and will drag it out at least once a week to give us a "concert". It will send us running, believe me.

Thanks to everyone here for being so kind and understanding, y'all are the best!:grouphug:

I'm doing OK. Kyle amazes me sometimes...he knocked on my door as he heard me crying, came in and sat on the bed with me. He told me it's OK to cry and to feel this way and I'm just being a normal "Mom" BUT then he reminded me of a friend of mine that lost her only child, a son, 12 years ago in a tragic car accident. He would have graduated this year with Kyle. That hit me so hard as I realized how my friend Peggy must be feeling this year. She moved to Europe about 5 years ago and I've lost touch with her.

I have a lot to be thankful for and I really do have a lot to smile about.:goodvibes

Congrats to Kyle and to you and Johnny! You have a great young man. Really you do.

Lori I am not far from Wisconsin. Let me know. I heard the pants in Detroit are cut smaller than in other states. Also I firmly believe it is in the water it makes clothes shrink.

I think we have the same kind of water.

Sheryl- I don;t know how we all are not all poisoned in my home. :scared: I don't wash the prewashed greens , I figured they were washed. I read that the e-colli issues a lot of them you could not wash off, it was in the water that was used to irrigate and was actually in the leaves.

I don't wash mine either. My mother made all of us immune to almost every food borne bacteria by thawing meat outside, leaving leftovers in the oven all night and serving them the next day, well, you get the picture. Anyway, I figured if that didn't kill me, not washing the bagged spinach and lettuce won't kill my crowd.

Lindsay...really there is no way to tell. We feed the "outside" cats and some are friendly and some are not...some are immaculate and some are like pig pen.

Just remember, she will continue to come around if you keep feeding her so you may have her for life now...:)

Lindsay, this is what I was going to say. We are now down to just two cats, both female from the strays that adopted us. We were able to find homes for all the others, but it was a job! However, we still have a male cat who sort of comes and goes. Just when we think something has happened to him, he'll show up to be fed. It took Kenny about a month of feeding him for the cat to let him touch him, but now, he'll get rubbed before he eats.

Thanks Lauren, I'm guessing it's my sinuses making me dizzy, it's hard to tell since I always have sinus problems, good or bad weather. Sorry to hear Andrew's having sinus troubles, too.

Mine too. I think it is because I used to tease my mother about getting vertigo, so now I get it. Just about every head cold I get results in me feeling light headed, sometimes worse than others.

Laura - Love the pictures of Caili in her tutu.

Becky - Still no catering story? :rolleyes1 Please?

I know I've missed so much, but with this head cold and cruddy feeling that came with it, I haven't felt much like being on the computer. I'll try and catch up tomorrow.

Hi all!

Kathy- I thought of you last night.

Sheryl- It sounds like our little Princess is having the time of her life. Next time she will be showing you the ropes :thumbsup2
If the dizziness keeps up call the Dr. I know that you are not loving your Dr lately but you want to make sure that there is no infection. If it gets into your ear that is not fun. I found that out the hard way.

I bet if Laura showed up with a box of wine there would be parents voting her in as Pres of the PTO!

Paint- it is always sad to see any of the businesses close down. Hope that you find a new job as soon as you want one.

Aimee-I can share Alton Brown's turkey recipe with you if you like. I tinker with it all of the time but I always follow his basic temps and always use his "body armor".

I decided to make a meatloaf with sweet potatoes, corn on the cob, a green veggie and a salad.

Lindsay- it sounds like you may end up with a cat.

Speak of the devil......
I've been in the office for about an hour or so. I was heading to the kitchen to fix myself a drink and this what I saw.

It must be dinner time :)

Cute Lindsay! You're really spoiling that boy! If you do decide to keep feeding the little guy, dry food is cheaper...;) :thumbsup2 I know from experience...there is currently a 40# bag in the garage!!!

Good Day all,

I haven't posted in forever, but just finished trying to catch up on everything. I must admit I have lurked a few times but have been to consumed with everything that I have going on in my life right now to even comprehend what was being said never mind try and reply.
Congratualtions to Kyle on his graduation!!!
My daughter is graduating in a few weeks, I am so glad to know that I am not alone with the way that I can imagine myself reacting.
The ballerina was BEAUTIFUL!
i can relate to the COLD baseball/Softball games. My daughter had a game last night it was 47 degrees, raining and the wind was whipping!! pure torture!!
Tonights dinner is BBQ spare ribs, corn on the cob, coleslaw (homemade) and was thinking about trying to attempt a corn bread. Wish me luck!

Hi Ladies!

Change of plans...we decided not to go to NH this weekend. We want to save some $ and we have our Sept. WDW trip to look forward to. Well what do we have planned you ask...5 glorious days of family time. Eating out, playing in the yard, mulching, planting, picking up my Mom's hope chest I inherited, playground and a day trip to Southwick Zoo. Sounds great to me just to have Ron around for 5 days in a row.

Today is DN's last home game. They are having a big Senior night BBQ after the game.

WFD- grilled ham steaks, asparagus and baked beans.

Laura - your princess: ballerina is so beautiful, and what a smile!

Kathy- Congratulations to your family and Kyle, this is a wonderful milestone in all your lives! :cloud9: Enjoy every proud moment.

I am sorry to anyone I have overlooked, I have been doing very quick and brief scans of the thread lately. I guess that comes with the nice weather lately!:flower3:

Ann

Sounds like a great weekend! DH & I are going to get the deck ready for the season, lots of planting and I am working on a series of decoupage' clay pots for some of my herbs.......Some reading and chit chat once the outside is done with DH over a glass (or two) of wine:goodvibes

Okay, y'all have GOT to stop whining about the cold weather! It was 98 FLIPPIN' degrees here yesterday and currently 96 outside. I'm melting and it's only May!!!

:rotfl:

I'd love to have a whiff of cool air - send it my way, please? :worship:

Hi, all! Been a little MIA, working on Saturday and then helping close down the restaurant on Sunday. We did a lot of laughing, but some crying, too. i just really feel for the family- it was their dream and they put so much work into it. We had a lot of fun there! we got to take tons of food home, so my WFD for the next 3 years will be Italian! I have ridicuously huge things of canneloni, ravioli, gnocchi, mozzarella cheese, and tons of other stuff! I took home so many tomatoes, I've already made a vat of salsa! If you ladies lived closer, I'd invite you all over to shop from my kitchen! 10 lb. bags of mostaccioli anyone?!?:rotfl2:

 That must have been hard to do but at least you got some goodies out of it!

My sister makes one that is sooooooo good, I will have to see if I can get the recipe for you. She mixes butter and fresh sage then rubs it under and on the skin of the turkey. Then she places bacon over the top of it and while it is cooking bastes it with a mixture of maple syrup and water. :cloud9:

That sounds yummy - thanks for checking on it!

Aimee-I can share Alton Brown's turkey recipe with you if you like. I tinker with it all of the time but I always follow his basic temps and always use his "body armor".

I will do a google search for it - I am very curious about this body armor thing. :confused3

Nancy I love Alton Brown  I watched all of those road shows he did.

I found out what is wrong with my car, the best part is that is will be less than $200.00 to fix :worship: I was afraid I would have to scale back my vacation. The bad thing is that the part is on backorder but the car is drivable. I don't do well with out my wheels. I felt trapped.

Aimee Stop hogging the warm air! It is only in the high 50's here and I am freezing.

Lindsay Pen looks like my Brucie. Poor thing we named her after Bruce Lee to give her courage :rolleyes1 before we had her checked by the vet him is a her.

Aimee I forgot I posted a rotserie turkey on the old thread. It originally came from the Weber grill recipe site. That makes a wonderful turkey. I think I like grilled turkeys the best.

Hi, all! Been a little MIA, working on Saturday and then helping close down the restaurant on Sunday. ...Well, better go job hunting!

Good luck with the job hunt, more time to focus on the wedding for now ;) ...right!!!
.

Tonight I think I am making some flounder and more spinach. I want something light and easy.

Now you have me thinking of sole florentine...yum!!! Glad you are back, just in time for AI finale!:happytv:

This is good to hear...I am excited to eat here on our upcoming trip.

Let us know how it worked out...dinner sounds wonderful.

I am looking forward to it. I am impressed 'decoupage'...sure it will look real nice. I know we will be having drinks on the deck too...DH already bought the beer and a big bottle of wine for me. I can't wait to pick out some beautiful hanging ivy geraniums for my porch.:flower3:

You can have it! Until about an hour ago it was raining here, yet again! :headache:

WFD, I think I took fish out, can't remember. :rotfl: Will make that with some cream of spinach and some red Quinoa I got at Whole Foods.

However I do have a funny for ya.:lmao: Rick told me yesterday that I eat the strangest, most bland, food ever. If it tastes like dirt I'd eat it. WTH?!? :lmao: Y'all two better come home before one of you ends up in a freezer in Detroit! :rolleyes1

Love your F&W ticker!

Lucas, I really like your new "coming home" ticker too!

:lmao: :lmao: Hailey has one too. The therapists use it for her oral motor, but she loves it and will drag it out at least once a week to give us a "concert". It will send us running, believe me.

Oh no! Not another recorder! What parents will do for their kids! ;)

Hope you feel better soon!

Mama Nancy, You are always trying to send me to the doctor!!!
I don't think I have a sinus infection...yet. Don't worry, I'll know when I do. Thanks for worrying about me!

It sounds like she's already planning their day! Chris told me this morning that when she told her they were going to Epcot, she had a list of rides she wanted to do! And she had it all correct. Next thing we know, she'll be doing our trip planning!

Well I can picture that now! Laura dispensing wine from a box & all the Moms holding out their dixie cups for refills!:lmao:

Paint, I hope the job search goes well!

Ann, Glad to hear you have DRon home for a while! Enjoy it!:goodvibes

Aimee, Wow it's hot over there! I guess we'll be sweating with you real soon. It's been in the upper 80's here, but lower humidity that's made it pretty nice!

I've been online shopping today, so instead of curry or fish we're having sandwiches. I'm fixing roast beef, vidalia onion & swiss panini's on french for dinner. Maybe some coleslaw.

Y'all have a good evening!

Aimee,
Her you go. I do not always bother with brining but I always use the temperatures recommended and cover the bird with the foil. You mold the foil before you roast the turkey and then spray him with Pam.
You can use whatever seasonings you like, rub him down with oil or butter, perch him on celery and carrots ( my preferred turkey rack), your turkey will taste good.

Lindsay- your kitty is so handsome!

Janice- I hope that AB comes out with another road show. It was so good!

Laurie- congratulations to your DD. You must be so proud of her.

:lmao: Y'all two better come home before one of you ends up in a freezer in Detroit! :rolleyes1

*****************

Someone has to send you! I have to confess, I stay away from the Dr but I had what I thought was an allergy gone wild and felt it go into my ear, kind of like when you go swimming. Sheryl, it was the oddest thing and by the next day I was in agony. I stopped at the shed to tell Buddy I was going to the walk in because it was Saturday, and he left the guys to take me because I never go to the Dr. I had a massive infection that lasted forever. I lost teh hearing in one ear for a while but the EENT did something to fix that, it got better after a while. Long, tiring story, but I was told that it never would have been that bad if I had gone sooner.
You tend to care for everyone ans have been feeling so lousy yourself that I am afraid what may be a little tiny pesky infection will turn into something larger.

Tell your little Princess that she is officially "One of us" Disney Planner Extraordinaire!

Hey ya'll!

I think I've finished my work for today (unless the slavedriver DH finds me more:lmao: )!

:lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao: You're killing me but I have to confess, if you start to follow my lessons, make sure that you have some almond cleaner or something. You have got to have something to make him think twice when he eats if he annoys you ;) First gummi worms and then almond cookies......makes him wonder if he went to far and there :rotfl:is cyanide in his squash soup

I know I've missed so much, but with this head cold and cruddy feeling that came with it, I haven't felt much like being on the computer. I'll try and catch up tomorrow.

Gretchen- how long have you been feeling lousy? It seems like this cold is hanging on.

I drive my son nuts with the thawing thing. He kept sticking my meat back in the fridge and I thought that I was losing my mind!
