The All-New What's For Dinner Thread!!(recipe index in OP)

Maybe the ones you got were old. I read somewhere that sometimes the brussel sprouts in the stores are quite old and they taste much different. I like brussel sprouts.

I am having a glass of red wine trying to thaw out from the ballfield...and I thought the skating rink was cold! I was wearing two coats at Liam's game. They won again, 12-1.

I've resorted to bribery in an effort to improve Liam's hitting. I told him he could have a sundae if he got a hit. He walked twice on eight pitches. He was really mad that he never even saw a strike. That's good. At least he is up there looking for a hit now, rather than a walk. The offer still stands for next game.

That's a possibilty, I made myself eat half of them, have to have my 3 cups of veggies for the day, and a couple weren't too bad.

And I hear you on the cold. My godsons play football and at times it has been so cold we spend the entire time wrapped in blankets. :cold: And congrats to him on the win.

I have to mention...I have started reading the first Harry Potter book and I am loving it!!! I thought that I would read it first, then Andrew then we can watch the movies together. This is going to be our summer thing. He struggles a little with reading and writing so I am trying to stay on top of it.

I am so glad you like it too! I'm telling you, the series has been wonderful for Liam. I can finally talk to him about something interesting to both of us! I hope you and Andrew both like it. If the reading is difficult for Andrew, you could always read some out loud. Liam is a good reader, but I know there are some words he doesn't understand and he misses some things. He is almost finished the fourth book now. He has only seen the first movie. That is a little difficult to coordinate because Caili is always around and she would be terrified.

And I hear you on the cold. My godsons play football and at times it has been so cold we spend the entire time wrapped in blankets. :cold:

Do they play football in the spring there? Caili was wrapped in a blanket for a while tonight...she skated before the game, so she was cold from the outset. I was too. She said next game, we should bring two blankets.

The teams they have played on are in the fall. We have had some freaky weather at these games.

There were several times where we started the day with beautiful weather and ended up freezing. I'm talking short sleeve shirts and capris and within an hour being so cold we needed coats and blankets. :scared: I have gotten to the point where when games start I pack a bag with blankets and make sure to have extra jackets in the car.

Last year at the HS'ers game my poor middle godson was in shorts and a t-shirt because of how nice it was and didn't bring a jacket. :sad2: Luckily I had a sweatshirt for him and we ended up having to share a blanket. I had to share all of them with his mother, father and younger brother.

This year I am going to make us some shawls out of leftover fleece I used to make quilts.

I'll give you two tonight.

Meatball Soup or Italian Wedding soup.

1 lb groud meat of your choice
1 cup grated parm cheese
1 cup seasoned bread crumbs
1 egg
Garlic, salt and pepper to taste

Mix all of the above and make into tablespoon size balls

Heat 2 quarts of beef broth to a boil, add meatballs a few at a time. Cook for 10 minutes. Add 1 16oz box of orzo and cook for 10 more minutes, remove from heat, let stand 10 minutes and serve with some extra grated parm.

Now what I am making for dinner tomorrow

Pan cooked Pork Tenderloin
1 package pork tenderloins (the come 2 in a pack)
Salt and pepper
2 tbs unsweetened butter

cut tenderloins into 1/2 inch thick rings. Salt and pepper, melt butter in a large skillet and cook meat pieces till done, remove from pan and put in oven to keep warm.

Deglaze pan with 2 cups white wine, when little bits are fully disolved add 1/4 cup brandy and 1/2 cup heavy cream, reduce till it is a thick sauce.

Serve with your favorite rissotto use sauce to cover the meat and serve.

I am making us a big pot of chili for dinner tonight.

Have a greadt day!

ETA: ***If any of you guys have cats, please read!! I need some advice!!***

The past couple of months we have had a cat visit us. She (don't know if it's female, we just said she was and we call her Penny, lol) lurks up in the tall grass behind our house. In the beginning she hung around the spot where we toss out our scraps and she would eat them. We never thought she was a stray. She looks healthy, her coat is clean and shiny, etc. Nothing about her screamed stray for feral to us.

Well lately she has been coming on our deck and I've been feeding her there. We bought some canned cat food and give her that when we have nothing else. Hee hee, she will sniff the cat food and then look at us like she's saying, "Ahem, this is NOT homemade!" Anyway, here's my concern.

She is VERY jumpy and skittish. She got pretty close to me the other day. I reached down to pet her, I BARELY touched her and she jumped like she'd been shot. Odd huh? Last night I fed her some cat food and set out some water. She sniffed the water and looked at me like, "Um, no thank you, but I'd take a margarita, extra salt." I thought about it for a minute, then brought her a small bowl of milk.

She lapped it up like there was no tomorrow!!

My question: is there any way to tell if this cat is a stray or not? She has no collar, but like I said, she's far too healthy looking and clean to be a stray. I wonder if she's lost and has just taken up residence with us because we are good to her and feed her.

At any rate, she's joy to have around and I want to make sure she's taken care of. There's no point in calling ARK (our local pet rescue/adoption group), or animal control. They would never be able to catch her. Later today, I will try to sneak a picture of her so you guys can see what she looks like.

:cat: :cat: :cat:

Good Morning! Quickly checking in...have to take Niki to the vet then go to the eye doctor.

We are having crockpot roast chicken, stuffing, green beans and rice or potato.

Have a great day!

I did once find a dead bug in my triple washed lettuce. It was a really clean bug though.

:lmao::lmao:
That's the thing about baseball! We used to freeze when the kids started practice and games, then if they made it to the All Stars the weather turned and we used to fry! No happy medium in kid sports, is there?????

Shoot, I'd try to hit the darn ball if I got an ice cream :rotfl:

Lauren- once I started reading HP I was hooked! Have fun with them and with enticing Andrew to read. I cannot think of a better way to do it.

I've been here and there but I've been trying to limit my posting time a little bit. Plus, I got a very bad cold or flu or something after our trip last weekend trip to WDW.

I hope that you are feeling better. Keep stopping in :thumbsup2

:cat: :cat:

Lindsay- it is hard to say if the kitty is a stray or has a home and the owners let her out. I have had little kitties stop by and turn my porch into their home, this has happened three times in the past 2 years. Each time these little guys had owners but were left out doors. I have a hard time with this because I have 4 and I never let them out, they are well fed and not hiding under my table. I actually needed to catch one, she was friendly, and her little kitten. The poor thing had had a litter at her own home but she was hungry and was not cared for. When she appeared with her baby that I called the vet and she said to bring them both to her.

You can keep feeding her, she is probably skittish because these little animals learn very quickly that all people are not nice, and if they are left to fend for themselves the world is not a pretty place for cats. She will get used to you and then may trust you enough to let you touch her. Does she have a collar?

I don't know, I am of two minds on this. I cannot stand to see these animals just left to fend for them selves, unfortunately we saw too much of this when Buddy kept cows. People would drop off house pets that they no longer wanted because they would have a "nice" farm with more "friends". In reality the cats at the farm were feral and would make it their business to kill any other cats that they could. We used to try to catch the babies and find homes for them. Buddy always fed them and was the only person who could ever get near them. (We called him the "cat whisperer") One of the gals there used to trap as many as she could and have them neutered and gave them shots. They just kept coming though. :sad2:

Lauren has a bunch of babies that she cares for, she may have more advice.

Dinner tonight is going to be something with ground turkey, I think. I have to work this morning but will stop at Costco on the way home for some.

Lindsay...really there is no way to tell. We feed the "outside" cats and some are friendly and some are not...some are immaculate and some are like pig pen.

From my experience I would say try to catch it and take it to the vet to get fixed, etc...that is the best way to help a cat like this. This will be an expense and maybe even a PITA so you can just continue to give it a little help like you are doing.

As far as giving the cat milk...Tom insists that cats are lacto intolerant and will not give our cats milk. His Mom on the other hand gives her cats milk with no problem.

Just remember, she will continue to come around if you keep feeding her so you may have her for life now...:)

ETA: That is where all our left overs go...to the cats...spoiled!

Hi Ladies!

Change of plans...we decided not to go to NH this weekend. We want to save some $ and we have our Sept. WDW trip to look forward to. Well what do we have planned you ask...5 glorious days of family time. Eating out, playing in the yard, mulching, planting, picking up my Mom's hope chest I inherited, playground and a day trip to Southwick Zoo. Sounds great to me just to have Ron around for 5 days in a row.

Today is DN's last home game. They are having a big Senior night BBQ after the game.

WFD- grilled ham steaks, asparagus and baked beans.

Laura - your princess: ballerina is so beautiful, and what a smile!

Kathy- Congratulations to your family and Kyle, this is a wonderful milestone in all your lives! :cloud9: Enjoy every proud moment.

I am sorry to anyone I have overlooked, I have been doing very quick and brief scans of the thread lately. I guess that comes with the nice weather lately!:flower3:

Ann

Ann- that is the best kind of vacation! I love spending the weekend home and working in my yard without anywhere that I need to get off to. And then there is the time enjoying all of that work, what a payoff! Have a great time!

:cat: :cat: :cat:

Actually Lindsay they may be able to trap her. We had a problem a couple of years ago with a lot of stray cats in our area and the local shelter provided traps to catch them with. They caught about 6 of them, including a neighbors cat, and none were harmed by the trap.

Funny cat update:

I peeked outside this morning and Penny was sitting on our deck. I went and got her some food and water. I chatted with her while she ate. When she finished, she proceeded to turn around, show me her tush, and did a huge cat stretch.

*sigh*

I discovered Penny is most definitely not a girl. LOL!

Silly question for y'all. Pre-washed lettuces, spinach, etc. Do y'all wash it again or not?

I never rewash it. I am lazy! I do always wash lettuce that is whole, or romaine hearts, etc, but the earthbound organics I just dump on a plate. In fact, I am going to have some unwashed EO baby spinach for lunch! If you don't hear from me later you'll know what happened.

Kathy, belated congratulations to Kyle! I hope it was a wonderful day.

Tonight I think I am making some flounder and more spinach. I want something light and easy.

Congratulations Kyle!!! May all your dreams come true!

Great job Lauren! Thanks.

CONGRATULATIONS KYLE!!

Love it!!!!!

I've been here and there but I've been trying to limit my posting time a little bit. Plus, I got a very bad cold or flu or something after our trip last weekend trip to WDW.

Hope your weekend trip was nice, sorry you were sick!

Thanks to all for the Congrats! The graduation ceremony was very nice last night, of course I cried a river, Johnny even teared up. One glitch, I hate my camera, it's a cheapo and it's messed up. I think I managed a couple of pics that actually came out. Thankfully there was a professional photographer there so we can purchase some good ones.

WFD - The Creamy Ranch Chicken that Rogue posted, pasta and a veggie.:goodvibes

Congratulations, Kyle!! :cool1:

I have another work meeting tonight - I'm eating whatever they have there. DH is eating Taco Bell.

I have only cooked a turkey once and it was years ago; does anyone have any tips or a recipe I can follow that's good? It's about 12 pounds and was frozen; I've been thawing it in the fridge.

Hi, all! Been a little MIA, working on Saturday and then helping close down the restaurant on Sunday. We did a lot of laughing, but some crying, too. i just really feel for the family- it was their dream and they put so much work into it. We had a lot of fun there! we got to take tons of food home, so my WFD for the next 3 years will be Italian! I have ridicuously huge things of canneloni, ravioli, gnocchi, mozzarella cheese, and tons of other stuff! I took home so many tomatoes, I've already made a vat of salsa! If you ladies lived closer, I'd invite you all over to shop from my kitchen! 10 lb. bags of mostaccioli anyone?!?:rotfl2:
shovan- I never wash prewashed stuff. I just do a quick rinse on other things, too.
tiger- Congrats! Time goes to fast. My ds is 8 and it seems like yesterday he was a baby. Cliche, but true!
lindsay- Maybe she is somebody's outside cat? I don't really approve of letting pets wander, but some people do.
Well, better go job hunting!

I discovered Penny is most definitely not a girl. LOL!

:rotfl: Maybe you can rename him Penn, like from Penn and Teller. :thumbsup2

Congratulations, Kyle!! :cool1:

My sister makes one that is sooooooo good, I will have to see if I can get the recipe for you. She mixes butter and fresh sage then rubs it under and on the skin of the turkey. Then she places bacon over the top of it and while it is cooking bastes it with a mixture of maple syrup and water. :cloud9:

Hey y'all,

I'm feeling a bit yucky, sinuses making me dizzy.

I spoke to Alexis & her Mommy this morning. Alexis had to call me to tell me about the BIG slide at SSR's pool! They are having a whirlwind trip! They've eaten at Boma twice, breakfast & dinner! Raglan Road last night & tonight they are doing the Poly Luau. Alexis is having a blast & able to go on a bunch of new rides. ThunderMR & SplashMt which she loved! But she also begged to go on TOT! Yeah she cried, but then asked to go again,:confused3 but Chris wouldn't let her. They are having great weather & practically no lines! Less than a 5 minute wait for TOT! I'm feeling sad, that I'm missing her going on all the new rides (and missing all the yummy fun meals too!)

When Liam's recorder disappears, believe me, it will not be found again. I am not even going to save it for when Caili is in third grade...just in case it gets played in the next three years.

Like Rogue, I had a relative send Liam a recorder when he was three. This year, when my mom heard Liam needed a recorder, she asked, "Don't you still have the recorder Aunt Helene sent him?" I said, "Recorder? What recorder??" :confused3 ;)

Sheryl, I used to wash them again, but since I eat a lot of salad at my parents' house and no one there washes the greens again, I gave up. Like Nancy said, the washing doesn't get rid of the e.coli...only cooking will do that. I did once find a dead bug in my triple washed lettuce. It was a really clean bug though.

I am having a glass of red wine trying to thaw out from the ballfield...and I thought the skating rink was cold! I was wearing two coats at Liam's game. They won again, 12-1.

Now I realize I need to find where I put that recorder & destroy that thing!

EEEK! Bob always says it's just extra protein!!

I guess the other parent's wouldn't approve if you came to the games toting a box of wine! ;)

I've always considered bribery a standard parenting skill! Gotta stick with what works! :goodvibes

Sounds like I'm wasting time getting dinner on the table. Maybe I'll just sort through checking for really clean organic bugs!

I'm flip flopping on dinner again, some kind of curry or something simple & healthy like fish and salad.
