Hi everyone! I'm subscribing to this thread. I have never stayed at Contemporary before and I actually never had a desire to but I have changed my mind with the addition of the Bay Lake Tower. I'm hoping to stay at BLT this year or next year (hope is the key word) so I want to keep up with all the juicy details ;)
Welcome to the CR/BLT thread!

If you're considering a stay at BLT, I highly recommend taking a look at the BLT rooms and views thread. It has great info. on room locations and their views along with reviews and room maps with numbers:

Hope you get a great pin code or public discount to entice you to stay at either the CR or BLT:)

When we were there 2 weeks ago you had to order, get your drinks then go to the cashier where you paid and they gave you a beeper that went off when your food was ready. I found it a bit confusing the first time we went.

You're correct! Sorry about that.:flower3:

Thank you for the link!! I am most interested in a 1 bdr villa but I actually don't care as much about the view (GASP! I know!) as long as I'm not staring at trash. I do have a pin code for 45% off so I'm hoping to use that this year. If I can't go to BLT this year, then I'll keep my fingers crossed for 2011 :)

Thanks for the welcome! Is the Top of the World only for DVC members still or are they letting us nobodies up there too (if we stay at BLT)? And is there bar service at the pool at BLT? Thanks for all the great info!!

You're welcome.

The Cove Bar serves drinks/food at the BLT pool. Here is a link to the menu:

The TWL is still only for DVC members and those staying on points. Maybe that will change by the time we stay there:)

From today's AllEars Weekly Newsletter:

The Wave restaurant at Disney's Contemporary Resort has added a tagline to its name. It is now formally called: The Wave... of American Flavors.

What do you think of this?

Well I believe they use that phrase on their menu, so I think it makes sense and is a good idea.

This was posted on the Resort board that from August 16 - 19 there will be am Olive Garden conference with 600 general managers and higher ups. Since family and I will be there during that time from the 10th - 20th it will be intresting to see just how busy it will be.

the Contemporary 8/16-8/19. There will probably be around 600ish Olive Garden general managers and higher ups staying at the Contemporary for their annual conference. I think they only thing that will be affected is the rooms, not so much the parks or any other guests. I do know the Olive Garden is also trying to work something out w/ the Contemporary for a discounted rate for any of the managers and higher ups that want to extend their stay beyond the conference.

Interesting news and thanks for posting it.

WOW! 600:eek: managers?! I wonder if each one gets their own room? I'm assuming MANY will bring their families, too so that is going to add-up to a HUGE crowd:crowded:. Even though we're staying at BLT during that time, we'll be at the CR everyday, of course. (Good thing I already made our CA Grill ADR.)

I remember back in the middle of August '08 when we were staying in the Tower, there was a HUGE group of Union employees AND their families staying there. It was very difficult to get an elevator or a seat at the Grab 'n Go (the CC was still being built at the time). Hundreds would meet on the Concourse and it was difficult to even get passed them. Luckily, they all left a few days before we did so that was merciful.

I hope those Olive Garden managers behave better than what I've heard about those cheerleaders:laughing:

We just cannot decide where to stay! We're booked for the wing standard view. We really don't mind that. But we are celebrating our 10 yr anniv and both dh and I getting our masters. We are thinking about switching to the Poly which is our 1st choice, son (5) really wants to stay at the CR. Or possibly staying in the tower w/ Magic Kingdom view. I just don't know if it's really worth another $600ish dollars to do that. Is it really all that?

Well, the main thing I can think of that you would be giving up in a standard wing room is a balcony. At Poly, you at least have the option of requesting a balcony, and in a CR tower room you will automatically have a balcony. Otherwise, the wing rooms are laid out and furnished the same as the tower rooms.

The best thing about the standard wing rooms, in my opinion, is the price. You get all the perks and comfort of staying in the deluxe resort without the big price tag. I just booked a standard wing room for a long weekend in July (I really want to see MSEP while it's here for the summer) and with the summer deal that's going on, the price was unbelievably low. Pretty much all room types were available for the days I was looking at, but since this will be a fairly park intensive trip, I just couldn't justify spending the extra money when my room will be the same as everyone else's.

BTW - the only standard view rooms I've had were the ones facing the parking lot, but I noticed the description says they will over look the parking lot or have an obscured view. Has anyone stayed in a standard view that didn't overlook the parking lot? It doesn't really matter to me for this trip, but I'm just curious.

It was either in August 2001 or 2002 but I remember Raymond James was having a convention at the Contemporary and the day they arrived the line to check-in was at the main entrance to the lobby, plus they also brought their families with them. So I guess that's what it might be like during this Olive Garden convention.

Are the convention centers bigger at Contemporary or Swan/Dolphin? I'm going to S/D for the first time in a couple of weeks for a conference. I am definitely excited but it would have been cool to be at the Contemporary :)

:rotfl2:

I usually try to avoid the topic of calories while at WDW:rolleyes1. But I'll have to post some photos of the hordes of OGGMs (Olive Garden General Mgrs.;)) if I see any of them eating salads and diet cokes:sad2:.

When I told DH about the 600 GMs, he asked if there were 600 OGs, so I looked it up and there seem to be at least 700, so 100 aren't going? I guess they're going to need 100 GMs to mind 700 stores:confused3

I can't answer your question, but here is a map of the CR's convention center:
