~*~The After-Twilight Bookclub!!!~*~

All BDB fans, 'Covet' the first book in J.R. Ward's 'Fallen Angel' series comes out tomorrow. I got a copy yesterday at Wal-Mart and so far i really like it. It's set in Caldwell (same as BDB) with some of the same characters and locations. certainly a lot of the same type of dialogue. but a really different premise.

Thanks for posting this. I am on Phury's book in the BDB but I am struggling with it. I ate up all the other BDB but this one seems slow. But Covet looks interesting!:thumbsup2

phury's book was my least fave, although i still read it twice.:confused3
rehv's book, lover avenged, was awesome though, so keep reading!

covet was terrific, not amazing. there is supernatural aspects but to me it wasn't as compelling as those in BDB. this will end up as a seven book series (i suppose since it's based on the 7 deadly sins)

JR Ward had a chat session last night and answered readers questions. it was really nice of her and fun to connect with a beloved author.

Rehv's book does have alot of potential. I need to stop by Barnes and Noble tonight to find it.

I've read all the Sookie books and while the TV show is different from the books (especially the second season), I think it is great entertainment. So now you have one accounting that is positive, lol. And I love all the books and can't wait for the next one! Oh, and if anyone else is a fan they are putting all the short stories Ms. Harris has wrote about Sookie together in one volume called A Touch of Dead, which is coming out Oct. 6. I'm excited b/c I haven't read any of her short stories.

ETA: I finished Catching Fire this morning. It was great. I can't wait until the last one!!! So exciting....

I almost forgot about this! I haven't read any of the short stories either AND I've been having Sookie Stackhouse novels withdraws. Thanks for reminding me. :thumbsup2

I had been waiting for J R Ward's Covet book and could you believe I forgot it came out!!:scared1: This vow renewal planning has got my brain fried!:rotfl: I will have to go out to get it today.

I did pick up the Uglies, Pretties and the Specials. My DD's book order had all 3 for $10 so I jumped on it! I think Travelmel read them and liked them? Anyway, I'll give them a shot.

I did start reading 2 new series, Succubus Blues by Richelle Mead(author of Vampire Academy) and Heart of The Dragon(by Gena Showalter, it's her Atlantis Series and she is the author of the Lords of the Underworld Series that I love!). Both were really good and I can't wait to continue with both series.

For BDB fans, Gena Showalter is a great author to read while we wait for John Michael's book! Also, Larissa Ione. Warning, they write adult books!;)

I also have to agree that out of the BDB series Phury's book was my least favorite. I did like it but not as much as the others. Rhev's book was great! I loved it so much more than I thought I would.

Just wanted to post that I started reading Covet and it is so good! I love it so far. It is so great to see some of the same characters and I love that it's in the same setting. J R Ward is such a fantastic writer!:thumbsup2

So it looks like the Mortal Instruments series is getting a prequel series. September 2010 is the release date and there are three books in the "prequel series" called The Infernal Devices
http://theinfernaldevices.com/index3.html

AND A SEQUEL?? Yep, looks like Mortal Instruments BOOK 4 City of Fallen Angels is being worked on as we speak! http://cassandraclare.livejournal.com/

goodreads notes having a March 2011 release date for the fourth book in the Mortal Instruments series: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6752378-city-of-fallen-angels

Interesting.

EDIT: Well, it just keeps getting better... reading the author's blog I gleaned this information:

2) (And the one everyone's been waiting for . . . ) A lot of you already have intimations of this announcement, given that it was mentioned in Variety and other news outlets — but I wanted to wait until all the contracts were signed and the ink was dry before I said anything. So: the film rights to The Mortal Instruments have been optioned by Unique Features. This is a film production company set up by former founders and co-presidents of New Line Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne, who oversaw the production of the Lord of the Rings movies — probably my favorite fantasy movies of all time. They're very dedicated to fantasy and they understand it, and I definitely trust them with the story of the Mortal Instruments.

Now, a book series being optioned doesn't mean a film is being made right now or is definitely going to be made at all — it means that the studio or production company in question is developing the books as a film project — right now they've nailed down financing and a screenwriter (I don't know who that is yet) and are working towards the next stages in the development project. It is, however, an important step in the movie-making process, so I feel like it's okay to be excited about it. :)

And I find that veddy interesting as well!

So I have not read this series yet but it has been at the top of my "to-read" list for awhile now:

I was over on Twitarded's blog and read that there is a movie coming out based on the book pictured above! John C. Riley stars and even Selma Hyak got into the act.

I am so excited for a vampire movie coming out around Halloween!
The movie opens October 23rd. Official Site and Trailer: http://www.thevampiresassistant.net/

Interesting note: The director and screen play writer of this movie is Paul Weitz who, incidentally, is the brother of the Chris Weitz who is directing New Moon. Interesting..
http://twilight-movie.org/home/2009/08/paul-weitz-on-how-he-and-his-brother-both-directed-vampire-films-at-the-same-time/

Speaking of Halloween... the town that Twilight was (partly) filmed in (mostly the Port Angeles stuff) was also host to the movie Halloweentown. The city of St Helen's gets together and decorates the "Old Town" area every year in hopes of attracting shoppers and yesterday the family and I went over there to take in the ambiance. What I noticed was.... The Bloated Toad is for Rent! I have been by this place a couple times on Twi-related trips but was never able to get up close and personal before as the previous owners were not fan-friendly. Anyway, here are the shots:

No beehive waitresses in sight :guilty:

Inside the "restaraunt" - man I just love the song that plays while they (she) eats.

Halloweentown meets Twilight - the building behind them is featured in both films

And the third side note: There is a very, very cool real dress shop next door to where the movie version of the "Dress Shop" was in the Twilight. The woman who runs it is ever so cool and lent dresses from her shop to the director for use in the movie.. she also notes that the cast came and purchased their real life prom dresses at her place during their off hours(she proudly gives away pics of Rob P and her grandaughters to all the fans who come in and shop at her store- her perosnal story is this: She says, "I kept seeing this really handsome tall kid walking around all the time so I finally went up to him and said, 'are you the star' and he put his head down and shyly said, 'not really but that's what they tell me'" - or something very simliar to that... LOL I can't remember if that's exactly what he said and I am using quotes but anyway.. it's very close. He was shy, modest, and gorgeous as ever).

Anyway, she has lots of great stuff including some VERY expensive capes/robes/hats, etc. I was able to get a very cool (and inexpensive.. sort of costume one, not one of the really high end ones) Volturi Robe so now I have my Halloween costume all set! I hope everybody who is doing twilight costumes will post pictures!

Anyway, hope the movie is fun and let me know if you liked it!

I'm getting so excited... I just love this season..

Have you all tried reading Lyndsay Sands or Kerrlyn Sparks. They both have vampire series.

Hi, welcome, OsFan!

I looked up your suggestions on goodreads.com and found the following:

A Quick Bite (Argeneau #1)
by Lynsay Sands

From Goodreads:
[close] That hot guy tied to Lissianna Argeneau's bed? He's not dessert - he's the main course!

Lissianna has been spending her centuries pining for Mr. Right, not just a quick snack, and this sexy guy she finds in her bed looks like he might be a candidate. But there's another, more pressing issue: her tendency to faint at the sight of blood... An especially annoying quirk for a vampire. Of course it doesn't hurt that this man has a delicious-looking neck. What kind of cold-blooded vampire woman could resist a bite of that?

Dr. Gregory Hewitt recovers from the shock of waking up in a stranger's bedroom pretty quickly - once he sees a gorgeous woman about to treat him to a wild night of passion. But is it possible for the good doctor to find true love with a vampire vixen, or will he be just a good meal? That's a question Dr. Greg might be willing to sink his teeth into... If he can just get Lissianna to bite. [close]

That does not sound up my alley AT ALL but may appeal to some of us out there. Thank you for sharing :goodvibes

However, the other author you mentioned I think I have on my "to-read" list as one of her books sounded kinda cute (to me). Unfortunately, I only see it listed as a "mass market paperback" which is very difficult for me to read. I am a HUGE fan of the "trade paperback" editions. I have hand/wrist and eye issues. I'm just a whiner that way. lol

How To Marry a Millionaire Vampire (Love at Stake #1)
by Kerrelyn Sparks

From Goodreads:
So what if he's a bit older and usually regards a human female as dinner, not a dinner date? Yes, Roman Draganesti is a vampire, but a vampire who lost one of his fangs sinking his teeth into something he shouldn't have. Now he has one night to find a dentist before his natural healing abilities close the wound, leaving him a lop–sided eater for all eternity.

Things aren't going well for Shanna Whelan either...After witnessing a gruesome murder by the Russian mafia, she's next on their hit list. And her career as a dentist appears to be on a downward spiral because she's afraid of blood. When Roman rescues her from an assassination attempt, she wonders if she's found the one man who can keep her alive. Though the attraction between them is immediate and hot, can Shanna conquer her fear of blood to fix Roman's fang? And if she does, what will prevent Roman from using his fangs on her...

OMG!!!! You just made my day!!! I am so excited, I loved that series, once I finished them all. At first it was a tough read for me but only got better. I am so glad to get more books cause I loved the authors style of story telling. I did know of a prequel, but not a sequel!! Or a possible movie!!:dance3:

I can't remember if we talked about The Host becoming a movie on this thread... anyway, sort of old news but I just noticed it was on Stephanie Meyer's actual website so I thought I'd share this:

September 23, 2009

Hey guys, great news! The Host is on its way to the big screen:

Variety.com: "Twilight's Meyer..."

I'm so excited to be working with Nick Wechsler, and Steve and Paula Mae Schwartz to bring The Host to a visual format. They've all been a dream to work with, so lovely and collaborative, and I feel like we're in a really good place to make a great movie together. And then to have Andrew Niccol writing and directing? Truly awesome. If you've never seen Gattaca, go watch it now. One of my favorite movies of all time. It's such a great example of character driven science fiction, which is ideal for The Host, no? I'm having an absolute blast imagining different dream casts, which I would post if people didn't take my silly blogs so seriously these days. I'm looking forward to seeing the cast lists you come up with in the fansite forums, and if any of them match mine.

So, very exciting. Yay Host!

XO
Steph

Go up a few posts on this thread and you'll see the post about the PREquel to Mortal Instruments, too! You can also find it on the official website for the author... Infernal Devices, I think.

On another note.. I think you should use that picture of you in that pretty Bella dress for your avatar! Nice work!

I loved The Host! Can't wait for a movie.

Currently I'm reading The Gargoyle by Andrew Davidson.

This is a great, intense book. Really like nothing I've read before. It's dark, descriptive, spans Centuries and continents. Is it romance? Is it horror? It's such a smart book, so many historical, mythological, and literary references. I'm reading it on my Kindle (yay!) and I must admit that more than once I've had to use the built in Dictionary, especially for some of the medical terms. At any rate, this book so far is fascinating.

Just started 'Darkfever' by Moning.....very good so far. :thumbsup2

I can't believe I Forgot about these books. I think it's because I'm number 182 on the holds list. I THINK

I've had this on my list of things to read for a while. Glad to know its good!

Which was on your list? Gargoyle or the Host? The Host is WONDERFUL but has a slow start (pls stick with it.. YOU WILL NOT BE SORRY!) I haven't read Gargoyle yet but I"m afraid it's too smart for me.

Is the Gargoyle like the Outlander? I'm afraid it's going to be too difficult of a read. It looks good though!
P.S. Thanks for the P.M. ;)
