~*~The After-Twilight Bookclub!!!~*~

A few more things about Blood Promise (SPOILERS! IN WHITE!)...

I didn't include the full text in the quote, so here is my reply in white to avoid spoilers.

Oh no! I better hurry up and finish Hunger Games!LOL I didn't know the 2nd book will be out tomorrow!

Travelmel, you are too funny! Sorry you caught sight of the spoilers from Blood Promise!!

CP, I had another thought about Blood Promise I wanted to share with you, in white of course!
[/COLOR]

CP Said (in white): I figured out Abe was Rose's father pretty early on in the book, I thought he was awesome! I hope we see more of him in the future. I really don't want Rose to end up with Adrian... And I was really saddened by Lissa and Christian's break-up... :(

travelmel says: (in white) I'm glad we met him and it cracks me up that she calls him shmemmy or whatever the word is for snake. That is too funny. I don't think it's possible for Rose to end up with Adrian... I think Dimitri will definitely be turned back and I think Desnik could totally be right about her theory that Victor knows at least something about turning people back and that's at least partially the reason why he turned his daughter.

Desnik said: (in white) I loved that Abe was her father! Actually, I didn't even think about that as a possibility! OK, I love Dimetri and I wish him & Rose could be together, but I love Adrian and I would love to see how they would be together. I love the next quest Rose will go on! I did not see it coming. Do you think Adrian will tag along with her and Lissa? I really can't wait for the next book! 2010 is too far away!!

travelmel says: (in white)Like I said... I firmly believe that Rose and Dimitri will end up together in the end. I think/hope Adrian will tag along with Rose and Lissa. I like him! He's a loose cannon and he says funny stuff. I think it was lame that Christian stayed broken up with Lissa and seemed TOTALLY out of place. It was just done so that Lissa could go off with Rose without him. Lame, lame, lame.

Travelmel also says: (in white) I liked the book but was totally irritated in the end. The main purpose of the book was to find and kill Dimitri. In the end nothing was done to help along that story line at all. I like it when a book wraps up what it intended to wrap up. In this case the book ended with the same exact problem: find and kill Dimitri. No resolution at all. The only resolution came with the demise of the new character - the girl sent to screw with Lissa. That was basically the whole point of the book. Introduce then kill off (or have go insane) a girl that screws with Lissa. Lame. It's didn't do anything to push the story along at all. Just a fluff piece, IMHO.

Rose became basically a herioin addict and then pulled herself out of it. I think the fact that she was "high" the whole time took away from the reader's ability to know whether or not there was an actual moral dilema for her. In other words..she was doubting the evilness of the Strigoi but it would have been more interesting/compelling if she would have been in her right mind while she doubted her allegiance to her Dhampir status. Her doubts, in this case, were basically drug induced so she could easily say "well I was high that's the only reason I was acting in a way that was not in accordance with my normal beliefs." It seemed like a cop out.

I do like the author bringing up the doubts about the status quo (why do Dhampirs just give up their lives to protect the Moroi, what is right, what is wrong.. good/evil being a gray area.. I like that. It could be an interesting story developing with the Moroi training to defend themselves and a possible HUGE upset of the status quo.. like Dhampirs being able to marry, have lives, etc. .. that sounds fun! I hope now that Rose has been a "blood *****" for lissa AND for Dimitri that she will be even more sympathetic towards them (blood *****s) as a whole.

EDIT: Oh yea.. CP Said: (in white)
BTW, was I the only one who kept thinking Rose was pregnant every time she got nauseous? LOL

Travelmel says: (in white) Hmph! I hadn't thought of that. It would have been an interesting twist for sure! We shall see!
All in all I was happy to get back into a book that I enjoyed for a change!! Looking forward to Catching fire but I am NOT looking forward to another cliffhanger! Desnik, did you finish Hunger games yet??

*** is wrong with people... i go to the library to do some reading during my lunch hour and this guy is sitting across from me downing those little bottles of airline alcohol. i went to security then high tailed it outta there before that guy had a chance to get behind the wheel. that was almost as disturbing as the guy who exposed himself to me at burger kind when i was 17!

darn guy ruined my reading time.

Annoying! What IS wrong with people???!!!

I *tried* to read all 24 pages of this thread but got quickly overwhelmed. :)lara

Welcome! Thanks for the good suggestions~

I'm reading this book next:

It isn't anything fantasy-ish, but it seems very different and interesting and it's been getting very good reviews.

In white! Spoilers!

I agree! I'm still hoping it will happen in the next book, I mean, Dimitri and her only had sex like a month ago in the book timeline, hehe

travelmel, I did not finish Hunger Games yet. DH is reading it and he is being a book hog!LOL I read the 1st 2 chapters and I am not feeling the need to rush to get it back from DH. I don't know, it just didn't draw me in but I guess I need to give it a chance.

I did just finish reading The Strain by Guillermo Del Toro. It was really good, not great but really good. If you are a horror fan you will love this book. It actually gave me nightmares!:scared1:

I also read Storm Born by Richelle Mead(author of the Vampire Academy). I really liked it. It's an adult book and different from the Vampire Academy books in a good way. I am looking forward to reading the 2nd book in this series.

My poor DS is anxiously waiting for his dad to finish Catching Fire so he gets a chance. It was mine first just as Hunger Games was. :goodvibes

That book sounds good! The summary sounds a little like Plain Truth by Jodi Picoult, which is one of my favorite books! I'll have to add this one to my list too!

Interesting! I'm going to look into Storm Born.... EDIT: I just looked at the summary and I think someboyd else just recommended this one recently? The Strain: might be too scary for me. I am a wimpasaurous.. though I wish I weren't. I like being scared!

I finished Catching Fire... (part two of the Hunger Games).

I liked it. I like that (in white) they're leading up to a revolution! Fun stuff. I'm excited to see how they overthrow the powers that be. I wish they would have moved on in that vein rather than revist the old areana with the same characters again. It felt like a cop out to do the Hunger Games AGAIN but it was interesting I guess... at least the story moved along a bit... UNLIKE the latest vamp academy sequel

I read another book.. it was kinda good and engaging and reminded me a little bit of the hunger games.. it was called "How I Live Now" I have to say I don't care much for depressing books and both of these sorta fall in that catergory but at least in Hunger Games she triumphed. I'm not saying that the character in "How I Live Now" didn't "triumph" but it was a different kind of ending. It definitely kept my attention though.. which is saying alot. I have been on a dud streak for some time now!

I need to get my hands on that new Karen Marie Moning book (Fever series!)

I have it reserved at Borders though I can't remember for the life of me what happened in the last book! :scared1:

The next House Of Night book comes out October 27th

I knoow I didn't like the last installment but I also know I'll probably read this anyway!

Funny that you say that, because the last book was one of my favorites. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens now that Zoey has sent you know who on the run...this series is my guilty pleasure.

I feel like they were all shacked up underground waiting for the big showdown but.... I think that was the end of the book before the last book!

That's not a good sign. All I remember is that I grew weary of the lingo in the last book... and the dumb decisions... HOWEVER.... It still moves along and I know I'll be right there for this next installment.

I agree with you D&D... guilty, as charged!

All BDB fans, 'Covet' the first book in J.R. Ward's 'Fallen Angel' series comes out tomorrow. I got a copy yesterday at Wal-Mart and so far i really like it. It's set in Caldwell (same as BDB) with some of the same characters and locations. certainly a lot of the same type of dialogue. but a really different premise.

:rotfl: I'm gonna have to look up a summary on wikipedia or something.

Alright, I'm starting Catching Fire today. I have been putting it off because I had library books I wanted to read and return first, plus I knew once I started I probably wouldn't be able to put it down. I'll check back when I finish it.

I just did a brief search of the thread and the following didn't come up, so I thought I'd put it out there for the rest of you:

The YA fiction by Holly Black (co-author of the Spiderwick Chronicles). She wrote a trilogy of dark, angsty fairy related books set in NJ by the names of "Tithe," "Valiant," and "Ironsides." They were all great reads. Right now she's writing a series of graphic novels called "The Good Neighbors," which goes over similar grounds.

Second, Charlaine Harris' Southern Vampire Mysteries, which aren't YA and I haven't read them, so take it with a grain of salt. Friends whose opinion I trust sing their praises. The "True Blood" TV series was (poorly, by all accounts) based on it. It's next on my reading list.

I've read all the Sookie books and while the TV show is different from the books (especially the second season), I think it is great entertainment. So now you have one accounting that is positive, lol. And I love all the books and can't wait for the next one! Oh, and if anyone else is a fan they are putting all the short stories Ms. Harris has wrote about Sookie together in one volume called A Touch of Dead, which is coming out Oct. 6. I'm excited b/c I haven't read any of her short stories.

ETA: I finished Catching Fire this morning. It was great. I can't wait until the last one!!! So exciting....

Thanks for adding those Holly Black books, AP.... they looked a tiny bit too angsty for me but I do see the titles come up alot in passing. :) I read the Charlaine Harris book Better off Dead or something? The first Sookie book. I was ok with it but not jumping out of my chair. There were a couple of points that didn't seem "logical" in the end so that always bugs me. Thanks for stopping by hope you come back often. :)

A series everybody might enjoy is the Jaz Parks series, starting with Once Bitten, Twice Shy, they are by Jennifer Rardin. They are a real kick, she is a vampire hunter partnered with a vampire working for the CIA. If any of you have ever read Janet Evanovich these books kind of remind me of her Stephanie Plum character.
