I just spent the weekend interviewing prospective exchange students, so your report on culture shock really struck a cord with me! I know it is difficult, but I also know that things will get easier as time passes. Soon you will hate it if there are only 900 and not 1000 cheeeses to choose from!

I know it WILL get easier- but I guess I'm always too hard on myself, and wanting things to go faster. IT's a process, and I should let it run its natural course. Thanks for encouraging me!

Loved your update, especially the town pictures! Is this your running track?

Yes! That was my running track. See that "tower" (blue) to the left in the photo? That is the city's fire dept. training tower. They scale up and down it with hoses and ladders and get timed at how fast they can do it. I always laughed though when I saw them training because everyone knows they would never have enough water pressure to put ANYTHING out. Actually, that's not so funny, is it.

The food thief photo story was very funny!

He was a cutie pie, but EWWWW booger fingers on my daughter's food.

And how nice of these people to take you to your destination. Was that something very exceptional or is it rather usual to help each other out like that in Kazakhstan? Here in Germany the people in the former East-Germany very often tell how wonderful it was when they were still East-Germany because everyone helped everyone, but know since they have become capitalist people only look after themselves.

In Almaty, that is a VERY rare gift!!! In the big city it's every man for himself. But in our little town, everyone was WAY more friendly and apt to help out. I think there's an inate sense of hospitality and a more even playing field, if you will, in smaller, less developed places.

Maroo, all I can say is WOW!!!! Now THAT is one fantastic idea, and one fantastic costume!!!

I could tell by that mischievous grin in his eyes that he was up to no good.

How wonderful you got a free ride! And from a big burly body guard that would have a very low chance of being attacked - even better! In my very American mindset I cannot even fathom having that kind of worry on a regular basis....

It was constant and ongoing, and wore. us. out!! Hence we are "home".

I remember you mentioning a wheelchair and sickness being involved during your travels....is it related to the lamb meatloaf? Maybe not because the kids got sick too....eek.

Yes, I DO see the difference; I took hers out 10 days after- but it was with toenail clippers. They actually do a pretty decent job and slicing those little buggers out.

It was pretty fun talking with Maroo tonight about how she was going to get it through the airport without them thinking it's something not on the up and up! I can see it now....they run it through the x-ray and see all the wires and put everything on lock down!

After reading later that we should answer in white, I had to go back and blank out my answer.

I can't believe I knew this one, but amazingly on our last trip I told the boys even though it was cheesy, and probably antiquated, they needed to go see CBJ so they could say they had, like IASM and classics like that, before it disappeared. Looking at the sign out front, it struck me then that it reminded me of TSM. I was going to guess TSM until I remembered that thought. I went and double checked the sign in a picture, and sure enough......

See, that's what I'm thinking! One time we were on a flight from Almaty to Istanbul, and the Turks were SOOOOOOOO bad about lighting up in the bathroom, that they had to do a pooper lock-down. MAN! was I thankful when that plane landed- I had to go SOOOOOOOOO bad!!! It was awful. What is it about "NO SMOKING" announed in 4 languages do you NOT understand??!!!







Ok, what I meant to say, is that if I were the 2nd client of the crapper that'd be what I'd have to look forward to. So, if I am first, the 3rd client would get the "royal" treatment.

Glad you made good use of the Chapter Links. I admit, I have used them on others' these days of less DISTime. Sad, but reality. I think after the rush of figuring out our new schedules I can be on a bit more. Time will tell.

It is a 2 1/2 hour flight. We always get full meals on these flights- foreign airlines just do this BETTER!!

It was 3 fully packed envelopes of cash- NOT what you want to have on you ANYWHERE!

It was VERY nice; and very unexpected too.

So what you’re saying is that when the tainted fowl you are served on a Kaz airline starts talking to you with its outside voice, and you aren’t the first one into the lavatory, you should bring your “refreshing tower” to the facilities in order to cleanse the throne of any remnants of the previous occupant.

As usually I'm tardy to the game, but enjoyed the different guesses.

I've heard of some of the women who worked as stewardesses have lung or throat cancer from inhailing all that back then. Can you imgaine?!? You never smoked but because others did you now have cancer!
