The 2010 Baltic Thread--Cruise Tips and Planning

Ray if you are reading - when I get to my big computer (maybe tomorrow) I will send you a copy of the graphic, don't know how big you need it but I hope the one I have will work for you.

Anyone know how easy or convenient it is to do the HOHO bus in Norway? Is there a stop close to the dock?

Also, Sweden, anyone have information on the HOHO bus there as well?

Can't help with Norway, but have ruled out STockholm. The buses don't start until 10 and to port are only every 30 minutes. Apparently traffic can also be heavy. The alternative is an SL card (100SEK) which allows to unlimited rides on the public transport, including one of the ferries & the djurgarden tram. THe number 1, 72 & 76 go from port to downtown. You can buy the SL card from the tourist info. at the port apparently, otherwise my plan will not work!:rotfl:

Have heard the same thing that Celestine did about Stockholm, I have been planning to buy the 100 SEK transportation pass at the port and take the 76 bus into town (my Stockholm day is a Saturday - it appears the 76 bus doesn't run on Sundays in case anyone is there on a Sunday, but there would be an alternate transportation route you can find - other bus routes). If you can't buy the transportation pass at the port I am pretty sure you can buy bus tickets. You must have bus tickets before you get on board the bus - they will not take money on the bus.

From the Frihamnen dock, I decided the HOHO alternatives were not the best for what I wanted to do. Had we docked at Statsgarden they would have been perfect.

I was wondering about the buses/bathroom too. There is a note in the cruise docs that they may stop for restroom breaks on the way to & from the port.

We land at 8 AM at Heathrow. Glad to see they may make a longer stop along the way. I was worried about getting to the port too early. (I think the cruise before us doesn't get in until 10am that day)

Hi, can you tell me where you found the info. about the start times for the HOHO bus in Stockholm? I can't find it anywhere on their website. Thanks!

OK

Didnt predict this!!!

I thought the Magic would go South out of Copenhagen, not North and then around, on its way to Warnmunde.

Rain is forecast for Warnemunde.

Doesn't look like that's they way they planned to go (from the DCL site itineraries map)

Firstly some news re TRAIN's if you are coming back on 18th July or on my cruise leaving that day.

I have spotted advance notice of Railway works between Faversham and Dover priory, on that day only. Now I do not know the detail bar that, I would assume Victoria and London bridge trains will take a detour around Ramsgate, so still run but take longer. St Pancrus trains are not affected.

Is it possible that the ship is taking a different route than expected for weather reasons?

Lots of rain in Europe so a possibility, but not the intended route.

If you arrive at Heathrow at 8am you will need immigration and collect baggage so add an hour for that, then coach pick up with a motorway stop, thats two hours, so not before noon if going direct,

Yes, not the way I expected.

I ended up e-mailing them to ask as I had read on other cruise forums of poor service etc. I think it is also buried somewhere on the route map (but don't hold me to that)

Good question anything on the blogs?:confused:popcorn:::wizard:

Lots of people doing Europe or the Med on the Disboards until they start the trip then they disappear until the trip is over! :confused3 :surfweb: It is too time consuming to get online when you are having so much fun. :cool1:

That's a pretty impressive piece of trivia. Makes a lot more sense now. I wonder how much more expensive it is for them to go the long way.

No clue, but I agree that I am impressed that anyone would know that. Still, if it's a problem for the Magic, it must be a problem for many other cruise ships, since the Magic is not nearly as big as others that do this route, right?
