The 2010 Baltic Thread--Cruise Tips and Planning

Thanks for the info. Not happy about 10:30 bus time. That makes for a long wait in the airport and will get us to port way later than I like. Wonder if I can still cancel the transportation and get a car service.

Not sure what the cancellation policy is but it's worth finding out if you're eager to get on the road from Heathrow. We thought about renting a car but decided we'd be too bleary eyed from lack to sleep to drive. Lots of car service companies will take you.

We've booked a "welcome to tallinn" bike tour with www.citybike.ee

Celestine

Celestine,
That bike tour sounds like fun! :thumbsup2

What is the garlic restaurant ? Sounds great !

Scrappy Cruiser
The name of the Garlic restaurant is Balthasar. It is in the very heart of old town Tallin. What was the deciding factor (other than the garlic) was that the restaurant was named after a notorius writer, Balthasar Russow. He wrote his masterpiece "Chronicle of Livonia" while residing in what is now the restaurant. Our home city is Livonia, MI.:goodvibes, so we just feel it is proper to pay our respects to the old gent.:worship::love:

Thanks, Sandy !:flower3: I have it noted. Did you make reservations ? Are you on the July 18 cruise ?

Are there any men who are not taking a jacket for formal and semi-formal nights? My DH is considering not bothering and just wearing a shirt and tie. Will he look out of place with the sea of tuxedos? He's always worn one in the past, and I really can't recall what other men wore.

Thanks in advance for the advice!

That's the same Akershus as at Epcot - except the one in Oslo is bigger and a LOT older! :teeth:

Akershus will be a highlight for me as will the Viking SHip Museum. I love the film following the boat ride in Epcot!! Just can't wait ti be back at Epcot to have memories of the real Norway.

Thats what I have but they aren't blogging much on ship....hope there all not sick....

Woke up and checked the blogs and MJ Girl had written a nice long post about Oslo. No mention at all of seasicknesses, so it sounds as though the seas have calmed down. Clearly chilly weather though. Guessing she plans to blog once a day, summing up the day's adventures.

How is the sea band working. I have heard mixed reviews. Was it very expensive?

I just bought several pairs at my local drugstore for about $10 each. My husband and daughter used them on the last cruise that we were on and swore by them. SeaBand also make a ginger anti-nausea gum. Can't say how well that works, but I may get some of that as well.

No Tux for my man. (Barely got him in one for the wedding.) He will be in a jacket, albeit just a sports coat, not a suit.

Just a quick post from the Magic in Copenhagen!

I took DCL transfers from the airport. We were in London for a few days prior (non-disney hotel) so just made our way to the terminal. We arrived just prior to 9 am and there were at least 2 buses already enroute to the port. We did make a stop in Canterbury because it was too early to get to the port.

Canterbury was quite nice. We stayed an hour there then it was a 40 min drive to the port. Nice shopping area in Canterbury and we could see the cathedral from outside.

Once we got to the port we did have to wait a bit on the bus because there were too many people that had just been dropped off. After we saw the line inside, we were glad they let us wait on the bus!

Just had a rain storm with hail. Should be leaving on time at 5 pm for Warenmunde.

I am renting a tux that will be waiting for me when I enter our cabin on the ship. Cruiseline Formalwear has them on board the Magic! Other than that just bringing a few shirts and a few ties with Dockers.

We usually enjoy dressing up. but no jacket for me this time. We are limiting ourselves to one bag each and a sprtcoat is heavy and bulky. I figure a dress shirt and tie will be more than adequate, even for Palo.

Thanks for posting from the cruise! Sounds like the trip to Dover was pretty straightforward and that we should expect real differences at the port from what things are like at Port Canaveral, which is good to know. Can't imagine the hail in Copenhagen! Hope your day at sea tomorrow is a calm one. Will be very interested to know how debarkation in Warnemunde works!

Scott- I am hiding your post from John. I love it when he dresses up!
No tux this trip- but I am packing his sports jacket. Can't believe we fly in just 2 weeks!

Hail?? Oh baby...

BTW, the day after Copenhagen is Warnemunde, not a day at Sea... Day at Sea comes after Germany.

Right you are! I should have remembered that. I think the day at sea in between Berlin and St. Petersburg is a VERY good idea. We will all need to rest up.
