The 2010 Baltic Thread--Cruise Tips and Planning

I can only go by my observations; best to get someone who was on one to confirm, but, I do not think this is like MCO to PC, with a regular service, moreover, a set pick up time like WDW reosrts. Hotel by Hotel.

At WDW they aim to arrive around 1pm,

The cruise terminal is small and enless you are after Palo there isnt much to gain by getting there early. Plus on DCL transfers they take care of the luggage.

Andrew-did you notice if they have restrooms onboard the buses like the DCL ones?

Can I say, from my observations on Saturday:-

Those cruisers who braved our roads and booked car hire had a very good idea. National Car Hire has a drop off location within walking distance of the port. You can drive from London to Dover easy on M20, and then drop off luggage and check in and the driver just drives it back and can walk back to port, have ID.

That is very good to know, since that is our plan. According to the map, it looked like National was close enough to the port to walk. So, that is what I told my husband he was doing, dropping us off and then walking back after returning the car. He will be glad to know that it really is within walking distance. Thanks for the update.

Are there any men who are not taking a jacket for formal and semi-formal nights? My DH is considering not bothering and just wearing a shirt and tie. Will he look out of place with the sea of tuxedos? He's always worn one in the past, and I really can't recall what other men wore.

Thanks in advance for the advice!

My preference is to take the jacket & skip the tie! ::yes::

Usually we would do a tux rental but as we are B2B & we would have to rent twice it just did not make sense! ::yes::

No jacket here. Nice shirt and tie will do me nicely.

We're also on the July 6th sailing and DH will be wearing a nice shirt and tie for those nights, too. :thumbsup2

Just a quick post from the Magic in Copenhagen!

I took DCL transfers from the airport. We were in London for a few days prior (non-disney hotel) so just made our way to the terminal. We arrived just prior to 9 am and there were at least 2 buses already enroute to the port. We did make a stop in Canterbury because it was too early to get to the port.

Canterbury was quite nice. We stayed an hour there then it was a 40 min drive to the port. Nice shopping area in Canterbury and we could see the cathedral from outside.

Once we got to the port we did have to wait a bit on the bus because there were too many people that had just been dropped off. After we saw the line inside, we were glad they let us wait on the bus!

Just had a rain storm with hail. Should be leaving on time at 5 pm for Warenmunde.

Debbie

Thanks for posting the info on Disney Transportation. Very good to know.

Cant call it myself, a a guess, No, but so many differnet coaches so some may others not, but on DCL Tickets they say they may have a restroom stop en route. Coach restrooms are for emergencies only imho.

National easy walk back , Herzt a bit further, so many cruisers doing it.

Agreed. How long of a drive is it from downtown London (wondering about the little ones)?

OK

Didnt predict this!!!

I thought the Magic would go South out of Copenhagen, not North and then around, on its way to Warnmunde.

Rain is forecast for Warnemunde.

Thanks, Sandy !:flower3: I have it noted. Did you make reservations ? Are you on the July 18 cruise ?

Yes we are on the Ballyhoo Baltic cruise, July 18th. I generally post over there but keep my eye on this thread as well. :surfweb:
I did not make a reservation cuz I really don't know what time we'll be in that area. I don't want to be locked in to a specific time.

:scared1:Is Northern Europe just a rainy place??????????

Think we'll have better weather when we sail July 18???????
:confused3

That is why we bought some light weight waterproof rain jackets for this cruise? Or we could just bring WDW ponchos!:thumbsup2:laughing:

My DH and DS are both tuxing it. Really just because I want a family picture and also because my DH had to buy one for another function. But, we are traveling with my DH's family and we will be lucky to get my DF-I into a nice button down shirt. I will be surprised if he has a tie.

I guess to each his own. We are going to make the most of it and have fun dressing up.

I just bought several pairs at my local drugstore for about $10 each. My husband and daughter used them on the last cruise that we were on and swore by them. SeaBand also make a ginger anti-nausea gum. Can't say how well that works, but I may get some of that as well.

Thats good to know. I might pick up a couple just to be on the safe side. I have been fine on our last few cruises but, get really sick on small boats so I am always a little nervous the first few days. I can't stand ginger but, I am willing to try anything else. :thumbsup2
