Thanks Andre. Looks like walking will be the best bet. Our ADR is for 9:30.

You'd get away with getting the first boat of the day if you prefer, that would still get you there in time as the boat dock at POR is only a couple of minutes walk from Boatwright's. But if your room is in the North Quarter of POFQ (e.g. building 7) then you'd be much quicker walking as you're already half-way there.

Andre

The walk was much shorter than I expected and very pleasant. I didn't think my dh would want to walk it either, but he enjoyed it. Compared to walking in the parks, this is just a short stroll, very nice way to start off the day or end a meal.

Thanks to both of you. I told DH that it looks like we'll need to walk & explained that is was a fairly short walk and would be pleasant. At least this way I'll feel better about ordering the banana stuffed french toast.:goodvibes

Ok, I'm trying to decide what to request:
Ok, we are two families:
Me, DH, DD6, DS turns 4 on trip
Friend & Her DH, DS6 on trip, DD 4 on trip, & DD 15 months

Our trip is in September. We've been booked since last Sept. We LOVE POFQ. Last time we were in the courtyard side of bldg 5 on the 1st floor and were in a great spot!
I need help wording my request so that I'll be more likely to get it:
This is what we need and why:
1st floor - 5 kids age six & under + 4 adults, lots of strollers and we'd worry about them on an upper floor (not that we'd just let them run out the door, but if you've had kids then you know they can...)
Near the foodcourt/buses - little tired legs, very tired mommies
Connecting would be best - Adjoining would be ok

Really, Building 5, but I'm really wanting something close to this end:

What should I request?

Calling all POFQ experts!!!!

I just saw the following statement on another thread where the OP was asking which resort to choose - CSR or POFQ:

CSR

You are comparing the moderate with the most amenities to the one with the least amenities. While FQ has lots of fans, I am not going to pay those prices for a resort that has more the amenity package of a value resort. If I am looking for a value style trip, then I book value and use my money elsewhere.

I didn't want to stir up any trouble because I simply don't know enough about POFQ but is this statement valid in any way????

POFQ does not have a sit down restaurant, but there is one at POR(10 minute walk away). POFQ also does not have boat & bike rentals, but POR does. Bottom line, if you are in one of the distant CSR buildings, you are probably more than 10 minutes away(further than the distance from POFQ to POR) from the amenities mentioned above. I am not sure what other amenities CSR has that POFQ does not, but this is what comes to mind off the top of my head.

I saw that post. You probably saw in the rest of that thread that the people who were posting were about 50/50 split on whether they preferred CSR or POFQ. Everyone has their own opinion. Some people are more confident in their opinions than others.

I personally, like the fact that POFQ is quieter. They've got everything you need in a resort, and in contrast to the theme parks, it's peaceful, almost tranquil. If I wanted a big bustling, I'd stay at Pop Century and save the dough, rather than CSR.

Some time in the past I posted the differences between Moderates and Values. In bold red, I'll add comments in light of the quote above:

Moderate rooms are 314 sq. ft. (except CBR rooms are 340).
Value rooms are 260 sq. ft.
The 54 square feet difference is about the size of two double beds.
Here, POFQ is like the other Moderates, not like the Values.

Moderate rooms have a ceiling fan.
Value rooms don't.
Here, POFQ is like the other Moderates, not like the Values.

Moderate rooms have a fridge.
Value rooms don't (or you'll pay $10/day to rent).
Here, POFQ is like the other Moderates, not like the Values.

Moderate rooms have 2 sinks (except CSR's have 1).
Value rooms have 1 sink.
Here, POFQ is like the other Moderates, not like the Values. And this is the one way that CSR is lacking.

Moderates have a pool slide and a hot tub.
Values have neither.
Here, POFQ is like the other Moderates, not like the Values.

Moderates' bus stops are covered (think protection from rain and hot sun).
Values' bus stops are not covered.
Here, POFQ is like the other Moderates, not like the Values.

Moderates have lush landscaping.
Values have more "hardscaping."
Here, POFQ is like the other Moderates, not like the Values.

Moderates have a food court AND a table-service restaurant (except POFQ ... food court only).
Values have only a food court.
So yes, POFQ lacks this, but the walk from POFQ to POR's restaurant is no farther than the walk from some far-out rooms at CSR or CBR to their resorts' restaurants.

Moderates have some sort of recreational activity (e.g., boat rentals, bike rentals).
Values don't have that type of recreational activity.
So yes, POFQ lacks this, but the walk from POFQ to POR's dock/rental area is no farther than the walk from some far-out rooms at CSR or CBR to their resorts' similar features.

Moderates have a bar/lounge for adult beverages (CBR's is outdoor but covered, as befits the theme of the resort).
Values don't have a bar or lounge (but you can get adult beverages at Pop).
Here, POFQ is like the other Moderates, not like the Values.

At Moderates, the maximum room charge limit is $1,000.
At Values, it's $500.
Here, POFQ is like the other Moderates, not like the Values.

EXTRA CREDIT:

POFQ and POR have boat service to Downtown Disney.
CSR has full room service, and a gym.
Values are much more "kid-themed" and whimsical-looking than the Moderates.

Thanks to all for posting with all of the great info!:thumbsup2 I feel very confident in our choice of POFQ as we are not concerned with having a TS restaurant on site or recreational activities.

We're having our first adult only trip and we want a cozy, quiet resort and I think we've made an excellent choice!!

What a great summary! Facts are so much better than opinions. :thumbsup2

We are DVc owners and were staying at the ASmo for the free dining. My husband said book a moderate. So we are staying at POFQ. It is a great moderate. I have stayed here at least 5 times.

We loved the POFQ. Even the furthest buildings are a short walk from the necessities (bus, food court, pool). We will stay there again because it is smaller. I highly recommend it.

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone for all of the great info. Sadly we won't be staying at FQ this trip. I did some numbers and it turns out we can stay at a value for 6 nights/7 days w/ hoppers cheaper than we can stay at a mod for 4 nights/ 4 days w/ hoppers. It was a no brainer to stay the extra time. Again thank for the help.

Nothing wrong with staying at a value. We were originally booked at ASMo and just changed yesterday. It is a extra 500.00. But I have 2 small children and it is worth it to us.

Do you have to walk over to POR to get the carriage rides?

We made ressies for our trip and were told that you need to go to POR throught the main building and look for the signs to be there about 15 mins before our schudled time

Hi there! If I buy refillable mugs at the French Quarter food court, can I use them at POR if I am over there at any point?

Just go straight over to the POR marina area (you can walk straight there along the river side from POFQ), the carriages depart from there.

You can walk along the river to get there
You can catch a bus at POFQ, get off at the first stop at main area at POR
You can catch a boat to POR

Frankly, I'd walk, more convenient

The carriage rides depart from near the marina. It's out the back door of the main lobby.
