I don't think it's very complicated at all.

The people who are pushing ahead with ANY public gatherings will be morally responsible for the outcome because, as authority figures, they are making a statement that it's ok. Now, one could argue it's a free country and all but thats only ethical if EVERYONE has the same access to information and care. This is plainly not true so responsibility is not shared.

As for the Olympics, it was stopped, the reasons aren't as important as the result.
The comment I made about complicated was NOT what you think it was. It was in relation to the decision to postpone the 2020 Olympics and the idea that if the IOA was headquartered in the U.S. it would have still gone on; the IOC did not postpone until the virus was well on its way around the globe and it went back and forth between what to do. The poster has since explained they were making a tongue in cheek comment about it.

OK, sounded to me like the complications were what made the issue with the Olympics unworthy of comparison as a means of distinction.

In the old days conventioneers would come home with buttons, hats and posters. With the high risk of Covid-19 they have really upped their game.

Very true, and so disgusting that they don't seem to have any concern for all the others they could bring it to.

The city council for our little town decided to go ahead with 4th of July festivities and the weekly Concert on the Lake since the governor decided each city judge/mayor could decide on their own what they want to do with groups larger than 100. The council voted 4 to 1 in favor of continuing the festivities saying everyone is encouraged to take personal responsibility and celebrate the holiday in a manner most comfortable for them.

Do you live in my small town. We too are proceeding with a big concert (which will draw upwards of 4-500 people, with fireworks) in our park. Masks optional. I'm not attending, even though I AM a city official. It is totally NOT worth the risk. It's moronic IMO.

Not the poster you quoted but... Our neighborhood in suburbs of Austin has 4000 houses. We have an annual fireworks display with festivities at our main park in the neighborhood. It draws crowds from all over our part of town. Thankfully, it was cancelled just a few days ago. I was worried about the huge influx of people to our neighborhood. My house has a great view of the fireworks and there are always lots of random cars parked on my street and extra foot traffic. I'll miss the show, but very glad they cancelled.

I live in Rockwall.

I wonder if you live near me. Our fireworks was cancelled also but they are doing pop up parades in different neighborhoods.

Frisco has canceled their festival but the fireworks show will go on as usual. I won't be there!

I saw that Kaboom Town will be filmed somehow and streamed online. I don't exactly see how that will work.

Everyone from Rowlett is threatening to go to Rockwall for the fireworks since ours are cancelled. I will happily be staying home!
If the winds keep blowing like they are today they may be cancelled anyway. I haven't gone to see fireworks in years, our neighbors put on a good enough show that I can sit in my back yard. If I want to see the Rockwall fireworks I can sit in the parking lot of the church I attend and see them.

I heard that while Kaboon Town area would be off limits but there will still be so many people out and about watching them. My son has gone to a parking garage near by a couple of times to view the show because traffic was so bad near the Kaboom Town area. He's not going this year.
