Team 'Ohana--No One Left Behind: The Continuing Adventures

Nicole - I don't wear a hat or visor, unless it's going to be raining. Then I just like to keep the rain out of my face. If it's hot, I have a couple of different headband options to keep my hair out of my face and the sweat from running down into my eyes. And in the winter, I always have a headband over my ears that keeps my hair out of my way.

Corinna - Warrior Princess. You go! Great job on the 5K. It's amazing how non-discriminating we've become about the weather. What's 10 degrees as long as it's dry? And no wind? Bonus! :thumbsup2

Jeanne
- MOTB Warrior Princess. That should keep the in-laws under control!

JenB - Great job on your 5K today! And 10 miles with no walk breaks - wow! I'm impressed. DH and I were talking with friends today - he's going to work on doing his 5 mile midweek runs non-stop; I'm going to shoot for 3 and then build up to 5. I think I may start with just shortening my walk breaks from 1:00 to :30 and then decrease from there, rather than running longer initially. Haven't quite decided yet.

Maria
- We only saw a few minutes of the Opening Ceremonies. We went to bed... thought we had a race the next day. :confused3

AFM - Went to Myrtle Beach for the Half Friday. Snow started around 7:00. Went to bed around 9:00, officials canceled the race around 10:00. It pays to have a teenaged daughter who stays up late - she texted me at 12:30 and told me she was sorry, which prompted me to ask what she knew. As it turns out, most of the runners opted to run some or all of the course at some point during the day Saturday. DH and a friend and I went out at 12:00 and ran various speeds and distances - I ended up with 11.77, plus somewhere around a 2 mile walk before the run that morning. They gave out medals at the post-race party that night, so we went and picked ours up (kinda feel like it's okay since I did run the distance!).

It was a great weekend, lots of fun, and race officials put on a great event. Only two reasons I'm bummed. :sad2: 1) This was to be the course that I got my PR and my half goal for the year. It's flat and fast and everyone I know PR's on this course. Based on the pace I ran for the 11.77, I still would have PR'd by 11:00, but that's not exactly scientific. 2) I was going to join the Half Fanatics based on 3 half marathons within 90 days - Dec, Jan, Feb, and now I have no February half. I literally lay in bed Saturday morning and whined to DH for about 15 minutes about all the different combinations of races and dates and why nothing worked!

Jackie

Happy Valentine's Day, cousins!

Corinna - love that Lilo & Stitch picture you posted.

Jackie
I'm sorry your race and "scientific" PR didn't really work out. And bummer about the half fanatics.

I did have one other thing to report to my cousins just cause it made me proud of myself. I did my 10 miler on Frday and amaged it without any walk breaks. I'm oping this can carry through to the Princess and I can run the whole thing with walk breaks at water stations (drinking and runing don't mix well for me).
Congrats on running your 10 mile run!

Happy Valentine's Day!!!

:lmao:
I am laughing because this is the type of image that came up when I googled "valentine runner" !!! Thought this would be nice to come home to after my virtual 10K. Now, what's for dinner? Anyone with special plans?
That's hilarious!

Nicole - You might want your own copy of the book for your continued reference, you'll have to consider your own reading habits there, but the offer of loaning you mine still stands.
Okay, I'll take you up on your offer. ;) I'll PM you.

We had a running filled weekend. Yesterday we went to the local running store (thanks, Corinna, for the recommendation). DH and I both got new shoes. I was surprised to be fitted for a stability shoe as I have high arches and I've always thought I walked on the outsides of my feet, but apparently not. It is my first professional shoe fitting in almost 7 years, I guess things could have changed. I just hope these work well for me. I also got a running skirt. I can't figure out how the store prices things because we got a discount on everything. The prices turned out better than we could even get online, so I'm happy.
We also went to REI - they started their winter clearance sale. Amazing deals - couldn't find anything in adults, but kids was great. Got DD a Columbia winter coat for next year $20, and snow boots for next year for $10.
I also got a little pouch that's just like a Spibelt, but it's a different brand. I wore it on my long run today with no problems. I was planning to keep my little camera in it among other things, but it got sweaty inside. Should have thought about that. Maybe I'll put it in a Ziploc? I mentioned this to DH and he was flabbergasted that I would want a camera. He said, "Why would you need a camera on a run?" I know I don't need it, but I thought it'd be cool to have.
DH surprised me with a Valentine's present. He made homemade hot chocolate mix and homemade marshmallows! (Thank you to Alton Brown/Food Network for airing all the chocolate episodes of Good Eats last week! LOL)
Today I did a 7.25 mile run/walk on the TM. I've been surprised that I actually find the jogging sections easier in a way. When I originally started running last year, my plan was to keep jogging longer and longer distances without walking. Then with a half marathon in mind, I switched my training a few weeks ago to run/walk intervals. The walking feels like a needed break, but the further I go (like around mile 6), jogging starts to feel easier than the walking intervals. I was also having a rough run today, but I did my planned distance, so yay. And actually I started to get a second wind of energy in the last half mile - so that was a nice way to finish.
Oh and I got some older recent issues of Runner's World out of the library today - from the cover, it looks like some good articles for me right now.

Good Morning! (Happy Monday!)

Did the WISH virtual Valentine's Day 10K yesterday - a quick time for me
(1:31). I'm not sure how much faster I could have done it - as I had a reasonable migraine hitting by the end, and today I'm really feeling it.

I did have an appointment with my trainer yesterday, but he said no more working out after pushing it that hard on the TM. Guess I looked a bit sweaty?

Oh well, onward and upward.....

Have a great day!

Good morning!!

Snow here again today. Since it is the holiday and most of the schools are closed anyway it isn't officially a snow day. But, I don't think we will be going anywhere soon.

This year I have been selecting a cookbook each week and preparing a recipe from it. In honor of Fat Tuesday tomorrow I am making gumbo today. Not sure it will last until tomorrow with all of us home today!!

I hope to get my core/strength routine done, and maybe some time on the TM later.

Good work on the Virtual Valentine's Day run, cousins!!

And clean house? People find time to do that? Laundry and dishes are about all we manage to keep up with on a regular basis.

I think we are kindred spirits.

I am laughing because this is the type of image that came up when I googled "valentine runner" !!! Thought this would be nice to come home to after my virtual 10K. Now, what's for dinner? Anyone with special plans?

:rotfl: This cracked me up! I love it. It's cute, but not exactly what you had in mind, I'm guessing! We all went out for a Valentine's brunch after church. It was very nice! Later, I took a nap while CASH took the kids skiing (first time this season the stars have aligned, as the weather wasn't too cold and we didn't have anything else planned) I took a nap, went to my bookclub and then did a little shopping at Kohls. I found a really awesome jacket on their clearance rack - there was only one left, and it was a small. Hesitantly, I tried it on, and....wow, it turns out I can wear a small!

Corinna - Awesome 5K time there, I'm just trying to break 30 minutes this year (although I secretly hope to get under 28 minutes this year, too). I ended up having to do my Virtual 5K in the gym Saturday afternoon due to some weekend scheduling issues, and I made sure to wear my visor for the indoor run.

Richard, those sound like some interesting bagels! I hope they were enjoyed by all (except Coco...)

Why are feet always the first part to get cold? My feet were so cold on Saturday, too. I think they concentrate so much on breathability for running and biking shoes, they don't take into account that people might be doing these activities in less than sunny, warm conditions. Hope it warms up for your next ride! I can't believe that your next race is almost here!! Please tell me they aren't predicting, you know, sleet for that day...

I hate to tell you this, but your sub-28 ambitions just got a lot less secret! :thumbsup2 You can do it - I know you can!

I want to see the Xena outfit.. A friend of mine dressed as Angelina Jolie from Tomb Radier and that was a pretty cool costume, somehow they seem related to me.

Did a 5K in Sea Isle, NJ today running along the snowy beach with friends. The race was fun and I managed a PR of 31:28 :cool1:

Congratulations on your PR! That's fantastic!

And if there is a Warrior Princess outfit, you are welcome to see it, in picture form if not in person - You're not doing the Royal Frog 5K are you?

Mmmmm, licorice. My wife got me a bag of all-natural licorice bites for Valentine's Day. Yum!

Corrina, congrats on the 5k. That's a great time no matter what, even better given the weather. :)

Thank you! I'm very proud of it. I have to say, I always do better in the colder weather! The possibility that I might not run as fast in April for the chip-timed race has actually occurred to me. Hopefully that won't be the case, though, and I'm going to work hard to make sure of it.

Careful with that real licorice! Sounds like your wife did well with her Valentine's shopping this year!

Jen, this is awesome. No walk breaks on the TM, no less! Amazing! I bet the Princess will be no problem. I agree, running through water stops can be...problematic. One of the reasons I often carry my own water bottle. Of course, that has it's own challenges, too.

Corinna - Warrior Princess. You go! Great job on the 5K. It's amazing how non-discriminating we've become about the weather. What's 10 degrees as long as it's dry? And no wind? Bonus! :thumbsup2

Thanks, Jackie! And I know what you mean about the weather! I think this has been the year of learning we can race in almost anything. So sorry your race officials didn't buy into that philosophy. How frustrating that it messed with your Half Fanatic and PR plans.

Glad the running store worked out so well for you! I hope you love your new shoes and skirt!!

That's so amazing about the jogging sections getting easier than the walking segments! I always say that I got into running slow because walking fast was just to darned hard. :lmao: The really funny thing: It's true.

I love Runner's World. One of my running friends says "They just keep running the same articles over and over" which is true, but if you're new to running and the magazine, that is OK - it's what we need to be reading! The good news is, you probably don't need a subscription after reading all the ones in the library! :) I hope you find lots of information and inspiration in those pages.

Sounds like you're working hard! Congratulations on your speedy 10K! You must have been sweaty (and possibly pre-fatigued?). I keep getting the impression from the trainer who is running my "Fit Club" that we should be doing both cardio and weights on the same day. I can't help it - I like having them on separate days. Possibly as much for the "Sweaty" issue as the pre-fatigue issue!

This year I have been selecting a cookbook each week and preparing a recipe from it. In honor of Fat Tuesday tomorrow I am making gumbo today. Not sure it will last until tomorrow with all of us home today!!

Oh, I LOVE this idea! Let us know how it turns out!

As for me: I did the actual 5K on Saturday. The virtual 10K on Sunday night. Bodypump this morning at 9am (and the instructor - my FAVORITE, incidentally - tells us this is her last class at this location. Boo.) and then came home to about an hour and a half of shoveling/snow relocation procedures. I might be a little tired or something. Where is that fainting smilie? Oh yeah: :faint:

My kids came out to shovel with me for a while. My 11 year old was so sweet and helpful. He shoveled off the sidewalk and threw the snow from the driveway onto the snow-wall. Then he got up and was helping shift the plow-snow I'd thrown up on the pile out of the street. That finally tired the poor kid out enough that he kept taking breaks. We have so much street-snow to move with even 2 inches of snow fall, it defeats the unbridled energy of an 11 year old boy! I did manage to move the rest of it, but I continue to pray for no more snow. Please, no more snow. Especially during princess weekend. Please.

Good Evening, Cousins!

Posting before we get started watching the Olympics...

I did brisk walking laps around my office for an hour this morning -- so I got some exercise in. I plan to run tomorrow AM, which shouldn't be a problem since I'm home with ds.

My boss showed up around 11, which meant I had to scrap my plan to walk for another hour...

Corinna -- That is a ridiculous amount of shoveling, just crazy! You are going to have incredible upper body definition, between that and the BodyPump! :thumbsup2

Christine -- Gumbo sounds good -- we have a traditional pancake dinner, along with bacon and hash browns. This year it is my last hurrah. Instead of giving up something for Lent, I am vowing to stick to my actual WW points each day, and do my designated exercise. This should be interesting... Hey, they all know how to operate the washing machine, if they run out of clothes they can find the laundry room :laundy:

Terri -- I like to say "onward and downward", but that's cause it's how I want the scale to go! :goodvibes It sounds like you must have had a good workout if your trainer said no more!

Nicole -- I love 2nd winds! I'll also tell you my little secret -- when I start going over 6M, I eat a Clif Block or two. It really gives me a boost that I seem to need. ::yes:: YMMV

Jackie -- I'm glad you had a great weekend, even though it didn't go as planned. I would be totally bummed if I travelled for a race and it was cancelled. You actually sound fairly resigned and even upbeat, a credit to your positive attitude! :thumbsup2

John -- So how was the real licorice? Are you savoring it or did you eat it quickly? popcorn::

JenB -- How was work today? Do you get any time off this week, or do you guys have a Feb. vacation? :lovestruc

Richard -- What a great valentine you are, taking care of all your girls! Like Corinna, I live in an all-male household (even the cat!), and I'm amazed they do such a good job without any prompting. As Debra and Yoda would say, "Well-trained, they are!" :yoda:

Okay, gotta jammify before Bob Costas gets started. For those of you hampered by not having heard my ds's toddler vocab, "jammify" means put on your jammies.

Maria :upsidedow

Maria - Hope the jammification was a timely success!

Corinna - The heart-shaped (and red colored) bagels are a special bagel they make up every year (and yes, there will be green bagels for St. Patrick's Day!).

Nicole - Just PM me, and I'll get the book going your way soon.

Debra - You've been quiet, but I've seen your writings for the Examiner. WTG for the Disney-related extra job!!

Mel - That was not helpful to my diet!!

OK. enough time on the DIS, time to go watch snowboarding on the Olympics!

I like "jammify" - and though I've not heard that toddler word before, I knew what you meant. ;) I got one package each of Clif Blocks, Gu and sport beans. I thought I could make it through my 7 mi with just some Powerade. Ha! I'll try one of my new snacks on this weekend's long run.
Ugh, and bosses - they seem to get in the way of what you really want to do. :rotfl:
I'm enjoying the Olympics too. Off to watch some more skating...

I think we are kindred spirits.

I'm glad my comment about lack of housework didn't make you think I'm gross!
I can't believe the amount of time you spend shoveling! Too funny that snow shoveling tuckered out your 11yo!
I think I used to be better at speed walking, but I've trained in jogging for months now, so I think I've gotten used to that.
I'm enjoying the Runner's World - like you said, I can see how it gets old for veteran runners, but there is some good info.

Nicole - Just PM me, and I'll get the book going your way soon.
Done. :thumbsup2

Hello cousins,

Just popping in after a very busy weekend.... OK, about the warrior princess outfit.......can I wear my old cat suit from Fredericks of Hollywood? yeah right, that's one I'll never get into again! But yes, I'd love to see the expression on my new Greek relatives if I wore something like that. My daughter is soooooo glad the wedding is "here" and not "there" ........apparently everybody has an opinion on what should be done.

Am I the only one that likes the Valentine's Day runner? I almost complimented IMGONNABE40 on her great holiday decor before I fully read her post!:rotfl:

Mel: That was so cruel!

That's it for now....look at the time....it's Tuesday already!

Hey Cousins. :cloud9:

(Reposted from Lean Meaners...) I'm up and on here early, just to make sure I post today! :goodvibes Things still aren't back to "normal" here, whatever that may be, and I'm still spending a couple of hours each day shoveling out (new) parking spaces for us. It seems that, on our block at least, people don't respect the Pittsburgh Parking Chair. I myself was unsure how I felt about the chair--seeing as how on-street parking spots aren't "owned"--until I lost a spot I'd spent hours cleaning out for the 3rd time. Now I'm a believer. :rotfl2:

I'm sorry to be so MIA, but the extra snow shoveling really cuts into my "social time." 9 straight days of snow shoveling. And counting, as we're expecting another 3-4 days of 2 or more inches each day. (4 today.) I won't try to catch up on the entire backlog of posts I missed, but here goes:

Richard: Most excellent medal display. You do a Disney race proud! Speaking of proud, I hope you're suitably proud of your healthy accomplishments. Just like your doctor is. And you're so restrained with your eating, even on Valentine's Day! You've got willpower, you do!

Princess: Congrats for being in for the Princess. (Just HAD to say it like that, Nicole!) And double congrats for your BL successes! Good news about getting professionally fitted--that'll make a big difference. And it's really nice you were able to get a good deal at a brick-and-mortar store, where you have the shoes on your tootsies right there and then! :yay: It sounds like you're making good progress on the running intervals, and making smart choices for your race and post-race transitions! P.S. Your Valentine's Day gift sounds like a winner to me--love the thoughtfulness behind homemade goodies.

John: Softball, an extreme sport. Who would have thunk? :confused3 Seriously, I hope you at least get a sexy scar out of the whole thing.

JenB: You, at least, have the perfect attitude about the snow, what with the snowpeople, snowball fights, etc. Me, I want to hit people with snowballs. But that's mostly because they keep taking my (and others' spaces). No sympathy for people who don't have shovels at this point or even wear gloves and then take cleared parking spaces. Nope, none at all.
And at this point, I'm thinking snow shoveling in darned good XT for a race! You'll rock the Princess!

Great job on your snowy beach run, and a good time on the race, too! Fabulous job on your 10 miler without walk breaks! Such good progress that I know you've been working towards! :thumbsup2

Jackie: I know I said this on the other thread, but masterful job with the canceled Myrtle Beach race. You've just officially joined the ranks of crazy-dedicated to the sport. (Not that running a marathon with a migraine didn't qualify you earlier. Just saying you set the bar high, real high.) I didn't realize you got a medal at the post-race party! You so deserved it!

Corinna: I'd never thought about it, but yeah, doctor's visits are less stressful when you know you're doing good things for yourself (weight-wise and other-wise). I know since I started running I'm more assertive about asking my doctor questions and in advocating for my health concerns, etc. Before, whatever treatment they thought would work for my situation seemed fine. Now, I'm more like to ask follow-up questions, etc. I attribute it to running, mostly, but I do think being at a healthy (if not goal) weight makes a big difference. Does that make sense?

Ooooh, ooooh, oooh! Corinna--Xena! It's meant to be! Great idea, John! :thumbsup2 I can so see you in a form-fitting breastplate! Yep, Corinna: Warrior Princess it is! At least get a custom t-shirt with that on it! (Running Banana can get it to you quickly!) P.S. WTG on your 5K!

Christine: Most excellent job getting your personal page done for your 3-Day race. PM on its way! I really like the sound of your core workout, especially its stripped-down, at home simplicity. It seems to me to be a good way to gauge your progress.

Fat Tuesday? Now you remind me! I need to go pick up some paczkis for DOOD, as Pgh doesn't do King Cakes and I'll just eat some if I make it. :rotfl2:

Maria: I'm all about the (lack of) core strength. Everything these days seems to remind me I don't have any. Dang shovels. Hey, Universal Gal?! When does Wizarding World open? DOOD wants to visit Universal this trip, and I'm at a loss. It's been years!

DS sounds a lot like me, when it comes to research and writing. I prefer to think of it as an individualized approach to learning. :rolleyes1 I'm so envious that you would gold medal in cleaning the house. I don't even qualify to be on a junior Olympics team for that...or anything else. :lmao: Stairs, btw, NEVER get any easier for me. I think it's because I can hear the cartilage.

P.S. Well-trained, they are! :lmao:

Kathy: How was Valentine's Day/Mike's B-day? What a special couple of reasons to celebrate the day! I'm so sorry your leg has been hurting you--I never would have guessed! Have you made an appointment with the doctor? P.S. What is Apples to Apples? (I got the gist of it....)

Jeanne: You're a whirlwind of wedding activity. How on earth do you keep everything so organized, esp. with what's going on beyond the wedding planning front! I hope you find the perfect dress that shows you off in style! (Without stepping on anyone else's toes, potentially! Always a trick, IMO.) I don't suppose you can use the same dress for both weddings? Really, though, I think you should wear a catsuit at the rehearsal dinner, wedding or reception. :rotfl2:

Terri: Goodness Gracious, woman! You did a virtual 10K with a migraine pending! THAT's determination! I would have quit. You and Jackie are strong, strong women! You listen to your trainer, though!

Okay, I don't want to go back over the posts. Could someone post when the 'Ohana meet is for the Princess? Date & Time? We're not running, haven't booked the vacation yet even, :rolleyes1 but DOOD and I will be there. I'd be happy to take your pictures. And yep, just want to see you. :yay: I don't know if we should go to the big WISH meet, as we're not participating, or even when it is.

Mel: Love the food port site. I do feel obligated, however, to point out that although the vegan chocolate banana cake sounds scrumptious--and I will make it one day soon--adding a cream cheese frosting makes it, well, not vegan. (I've not tried vegan cream cheese. :confused3) I'm bookmarking the site, though! :thumbsup2

As for me: I did my virtual 5K. On the TM. That's why it was a 5K. I don't even remember the time, per se. Between 37 and 38. Nope, wasn't even trying, just going through the motion while watching a rerun of Psych. :thumbsup2 Just in an anti-TM these days, maybe because I feel forced on it because of the weather.

I still need to book my Disney trip--just lots of things piling up. I think we're planning on staying off-site, as you know DOOD isn't particularly enamored with Disney property. And he wants to do a day or two at Universal. *Sigh.* Life is rough. :rotfl2:

And I haven't been to the movies in over two weeks. Arrrrghhhh! I'm hoping my normal cycle of movie previews picks up if this weather stabilizes and I'll probably sneak out for a matinee this week. Just for fun. Any suggestions?

Okay, I've moved to rambling thoughts. I hope to be more focused as I get back to regular posting. Just cross your fingers that the snow eventually stops falling every day so that I can get back to normal. Or at least as normal as I get.

John -- So how was the real licorice? Are you savoring it or did you eat it quickly? popcorn::

It's excellent! Not quite as sweet as the fake stuff, and with a much more licoricy taste. I'm trying to savor it but that's not working too well. It tends to be easy to eat while watching the Olympics. :)

Jeanne, nothing wrong with a cat suit. I did my 5k (actually a 5k plus some) in a red dress on Sunday. We all got decked out to raise money for the American Heart Association. 70 people in dresses running through the streets of Houston sure made the neighborhood residents wonder what was going on. We had a great time and raised almost $500.

Debra, I wish I could help with the movies, but I haven't been for weeks either. Between the Olympics and all my other TV shows on the DVR, plus the puppy, I haven't had much free time at all.

John: Please post pictures of you in the dress-- sounds like a really fun event

Jeanne: Good luck with continued wedding planning

Maria: Enjoy the day off. I love the word jammify, we have made up very similar words in our house. Alas it is a regular work week for me, actually no time off in Feb at al for me. I did take off the Monday after Princess though, so I'm just looking forward to that. DH and DD had fun yesterday and went to a local indoor waterpark.

Deb: I'm not sure we really finalized the Ohana meet. I was thinking an early lunch at the food court at the Poly would be good. We have DD's Mickey mile at 10:00am then were planning to head to MK-- The WISH meet is 5pm at POR food court. How does 11:30am Sat at Poly sound to everyone-- early lunch or Dole whip to hold you over until lunch?

I'm off to get in some miles and catch up on housework. Snowing here again but more a sloppy mix of sleet and snow.

Jen - 11:30 at the Poly Food Court sounds perfect to me! I had suggested a slightly later time, but I think I like this better as this leaves time for a dash through the Magic Kingdom before the meet at POR food court at 5pm. When the race gets closer, we can start each post with a time and place reminder for both meets.

Debra - I personally think you belong in the pictures whether you're running a race that weekend or not. Not to mention that Scream Teaming and/or volunteering is a MOST valid WISH activity.

Boy, I sure hope the snow stops dumping on your home soon. It's no joke, that is for sure. Are your arms and back killing you at this point or have you, like the BORG, adapted? Also, this parking space war sound pretty brutally rough. Do you leave your chair with a threatening note?

John - I saw one of your race photos on Facebook - looks like a fun time, for sure! There were a few ladies running in fancy red dresses and the friend I was running with (and when I say "with" I mean "well behind") said "That's the best use I think I've ever seen for a bridesmaid's dress." Congratulations on your excellent fund-raising for a good cause!

Nicole - your snacks sound good! A great plan to try them out before the race and see what you like / what sits well, as well as how frequently you want to use them. Here's my formula (make of it what you will) - on a run of 6-7 miles or more, if I've had breakfast earlier, I usually start with the fuel around mile 3 - eat one or two, then another "dose" about every other mile, depending on when I start to feel "draggy" again. This whole "Eat one pack before the workout and another during and another after" or whatever it suggests on the package. To me, that always seems excessive for my needs, anyhow.

The TM is calling my name again today - a nice 3 miles. Then food shopping and a trip to REI - gotta love REI. I am only shopping for kids snow pants, though. I am only shopping for kids snow pants. If I say it enough times, might believe it. :thumbsup2

No workout for me yesterday or today. Migraine is being kept at bay, but my hips hurt like crazy! Doing my best "Walter Brennan" imitation....walking very slowly.

I'll probably hit the treadmill SLOWLY tomorrow, prior to my session with the trainer.

I'm thinking the fact that I jogged more than I ever have might have something to do with it....not sure.

Any suggestions????

Have a GREAT day!

Richard - I'm campaigning on behalf of Coco. Why doesn't she get a bagel? Actually, our previous dog Mystic couldn't eat a bite of human food without it upsetting her stomach. This was quite a change from our first cockapoo who could eat anything. The current pups seem to be pretty resilient, but they also like fruits and veggies, which we've never been able to feed to our animals before. Apollo will drool for carrots.

Corinna - I get RW online as well, and they duplicate the articles there that they run in the regular publication. So I'll start reading an article and get the distinct feeling I've already read it, and realize that it was published a month ago, or two years ago. Been there, read it.

Maria - It's not so much a positive attitude that got me through the weekend as the fact that I was at the beach. I hadn't seen the ocean in many months, and the fact that I could wake up and listen to the waves crashing got me a long way. I never did get to walk on the beach - that's a whole other issue I have with DH and his not listening to me! - but I spent a lot of time standing on the balcony.

Nicole - If you only knew how little housework I do, you'd be shocked. My sister has a theory that if you leave the dust for 2 weeks, 2 months or 2 years that there's very little difference in the appearance, so there's no real reason to bother with it. I haven't gone quite as far as she has, but I do see some validity to her argument. :lmao:

Debra - The medal was a nice touch by the race committee. I also think it was their last attempt at justifying not offering a refund on the registration fees. This way they can say we got everything - race shirt, party, and medal - all but the official time, and they've already stated that all of their expenses were paid up front. I'm not expecting anything back, but I knew when I got the medal it was all over! I did have some anxiety Saturday morning about already having picked up the race shirt, bought an additional long-sleeved tshirt, and then not doing the race. That went a long way towards the motivation to run that day. Somehow it seemed if we actually ran on the course that it was okay to wear the race shirt, especially since it was through no fault of ours that the race was canceled. Still... it feels a little weird to wear the MB Marathon shirt, when there was no MB Marathon!

As for movies, I'm going to admit just how out of touch we are. One of DH's co-managers gave him part of his bonus last week and told him to go see Avatar. I have no desire to see it, but since it's free, he and I have a date this week to see the darn thing. Unfortunately it's going to cost a premium, since the theatre is only offering it in 3D. But this means that I will have seen TWO Oscar-nominated films this year - an increase of two over the past couple of years!

Terri - I suspect that the hip pain is related to the extra jogging. I was a little surprised on Sunday (and Monday) when I woke up sore after my non-race. It's a sure sign that I pushed myself harder than I usually do, which is a good thing, I think. I'm glad the migraine is on hold, at least for now. DD is not so lucky - texted me this morning that she finally gave up and went to the bathroom and threw up and eliminated the nausea that was plaguing her. Of all the things to pass on to your offspring, migraines are not on the list of things you'd choose! :guilty:

Headed to the track after work for speedwork. I need more of it, both to achieve my 5K goal(s) and to hit the half PR in March, especially since I'm going to have to do it on a less-flat course. (I refuse to say hillier, even though I know that it will be.) I think Thursday will be my first attempt at running non-stop for a longer period of time. There, I've said it. I have a plan for the week. (I actually have a training plan all printed out on my calendar, but it doesn't coincide with all the goals I'm trying to achieve, so I'm going to adapt as needed. Maybe I can market it when I'm done! :))

Jackie

OK, this is my 2nd attempt to post as my 1st try was gobbled up by cyberspace.

Corinna - Remember I am only shopping for kids snow pants, I am only shopping for kids snow pants, I am only shopping for kids snow pants...hey, those socks look like they match my WISH shirt!!!

Hmm, 2 days ago the weather called for 40 degrees and sunny for the Run Wild Half, now it looks like the mid-50s and rainy. I guess either beats any of my last 3 races (unless it pours down rain.....)

John - That must have been some race!

Debra - Me? Willpower? On Sunday I was downing the jellybeans so fast that Darcy refilled the bowl for me--I took that as a good hint to stop nibbling. I brought a list of questions with me and the doctor went through them all with me very patiently. I did go into my doctor visit a bit concerned about preventative care for my heart and blood pressure as I age, but they told me that I was good for now and that my risk factors (at least the ones I can control) are improving with my diet changes and weight loss. The doctor said I could get a heart scan [CT scan] if I wanted (anyone have any experience with this?), although he wasn't pushing one on me.

Jeanne - Hmm, cat suit with the wedding party...like it :thumbsup2.

As for me, this week I am trying to find a sweet spot in training where I am still moving forward to meet my April 70.3 training goals while resting up a bit for half marathon this weekend, which are pretty much incompatible goals.:confused3 No surprise I would find myself in this spot. Today's compromise was swimming longer and slower.

Just checking in. Haven't felt like posting or reading for that matter.

For those of you who don't know, we had another tragedy in our town. Last Friday, the same day that the 14 year old boy, that was shot last week, was laid to rest, we had another shooting at our local university. A professor shot and killed 3 other professors, and injured 3 more. :sad2:

I haven't had anything positive to add, so I've just stayed away. Sorry :grouphug:

Although, I did do the Virtual Valentine race. We had a local race here on Sunday. It had a 2 mile and a 4 mile. I did both!!! :thumbsup2 I did the 2 mile in 24:52, and the 4 mile in 55:13. Not bad considering due to the weather, sick kiddos, and the craziness lately, I haven't run since Feb. 1st. :headache:

I just wanted to check in so my cousins knew I was still here. :goodvibes

Allie -   I didn't realize that shooting was in the same place. Saw it on the news while we were at our race over the weekend. Way too much for one community to deal with. Good for you for running - helps to keep what little sanity we have. Will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. :grouphug:

Jackie

Thanks Jackie!

Sorry about your race too. Glad you got out and did the distance and got a medal for it. I would have rolled over and gone back to sleep. :cloud9:

I know that would be a hard call, and I would NOT want to have to be the one to make it.

It was therapeutic to get back out there though. Although, I'm feeling the pain of not having run six miles in a while. Feeling it every time I stand up, sit down, bend over, etc.
