Team 'Ohana--No One Left Behind: The Continuing Adventures

Actually, I like the sound of that: Corinna: Warrior Princess pirate:

Methinks someone just found a new nickname...;)

Maria :upsidedow
I do love that nickname! It really has a ring to it. ;)

Okay...when I first saw this I thought you were responding to Jeanne looking for a dress to wear to the wedding in the post immediately above yours! :lmao:
That's what I thought, too! :rotfl:

No ideas here yet what I'm wearing to the Princess. I have an idea of something I want to write on the back of my shirt, but I don't know how I would get something to affix to the silky tech material.
Disney race veterans - will I be miserable without a hat or visor? I really hate wearing them.
I'll have a lot more annoying newbie questions soon, I'm sure!

My entire county of libraries does not have "Marathoning for Mortals." They had Bingham's "No Need for Speed" so I just finished that.

Oh, I love this - Jeanne: Mother of the Bride AND Warrior Princess!

Nicole - just because I would be miserable without a visor does not mean you would be. In fact it sounds like you'd be miserable WITH one. Lots of people wear them, lots of people don't.

Are you thinking of getting your shirt silk-screened or something like that? I don't think an iron-on transfer would work on synthetic fabric - it would melt! Maybe you could put what you wanted on regular fabric and sew it on the back like a big patch? What do you want your shirt to say? Or is it a surprise?

I can't believe there is such a lack of Bingham's classic in the MN public libraries! That's....dare I say it?.....Inconceivable!!! No Need for Speed is good, too, of course.

I'm thinking about this Xena thing a little more - not sure I could take a costume for 2+ hours of running, but maybe it would be fun to be Corinna: Warrior Princess for the 5K. :) I only have the one WISH shirt that fits at this point anyhow, so it would be nice to not have to hand wash/drip dry between races.

Good idea to wear your costume for the 5k.

For my shirt - it's kind of a surprise. I don't know if I will go to the trouble of silkscreening and I know iron transfer wouldn't work. I like the patch idea. I'll have to figure it out.

I'm going to the local running store tomorrow, so I'm trying to plan my race day attire ahead of time, in case I need/want to purchase any accessories. Decisions, decisions... (not my strong suit!)

I'd be happy to loan you my copy for a while. It's a small paperback so it will mail easily. Don't sweat the hat or visor, if you don't like them then don't wear them. On the other hand I almost treat my visors like a security blanket and will even wear one in the dark.

Corinna - Definitely liked Andromeda. I've also found that holding hands with DW in public induces childhood embarassment.

Maria - We were watching Samantha Brown while I was reading your post.

On the other hand I almost treat my visors like a security blanket and will even wear one in the dark.

You are not the only one, Richard. Some people even wear them on the treadmill in the dark. Or in spin class, even. :rolleyes1

My kids rarely if ever have to be subjected to public handholding as CASH and I have tragically incompatible arm lengths/heights. No way to get comfortable while walking! Tell your girls they should be happy you're holding hands with each other! It's even more embarrassing when parents hold hands with OTHER people!

Spin class I understand, but.....umm, why are you running on the treadmill in the dark?

That WOULD be embarrassing!!:scared1: I am sure you will have many ways of your own to embarrass those boys for years to come. :thumbsup2

I didn't say it was me! Just... you know....someone. Just as speculation, it might cut down on the glare on the TV or something. :confused3

Mind you, I don't intend to embarrass MY kids in that particular way!

How about those opening ceremonies last night? Amazing to see all those athletes entering the arena! And the native dancers were so amazing - dancing the entire time the athletes were entering. I thought that the lighting design was pretty brilliant on this show - how on earth did they coordinate and position all those projectors? Unreal. Some of the illusions they created were incredible!

I'm heading out to the TC Valentine's Day 5K in a few minutes, It's 10º out there, but no wind and no sleet, so I am a happy camper. And it's not really much of a race if there are no D-tags. Look how discriminating my taste in races has become! I'm not planning on pushing this one to the max in any case.:thumbsup2 Just get out there and have fun.

All right, apparently I lied. I think I was expecting more excitement on the course. As it turned out, it was cold (10 or 12º) and I just wanted to get 'er done. I wish there had been official timing on this race:

Now I have to try to get under 27 in a 5K this spring. :headache:

Here's a picture from, well, obviously, the Start, as well.

Congrats on finishing in the cold weather, Corinna. :cheer2: That is a very good time! :thumbsup2

Hoping to get my virtual V-Day race done 2moro. Anyone else? Today I hope to get up the motivation to do a strength/core routine. Right after I clean my house!!!

Thank you Christine! I never got a satisfactory answer about if it was OK to do the virtual race a day early, and I need some more miles this weekend, so I'm planning to run my Virtual 10K tomorrow. Doing a race after core work and housework? That sounds tough, I must say! Do you do a particular core workout?

You are too sweet! Do you think I should just buy one - as in, it's something I'll want to refer back to later?
Thanks for the hat/visor advice. I'll try without for this race, which is probably for the best - DH might freak if I buy anymore gear after this week. :scared:

Totally agree! DH and I were trying to figure out how they did the floor and those fabric pieces that turned into tree trunks. (He's an entertainment electrician, so he's doing some research - LOL)

You're amazing! Congrats on a great time. You crack me up about planning to take it easy.
Oh, and if you want, I think you could submit your time for the virtual - you did a V-Day 5k.

I'm doing the virtual tomorrow too. I should have signed up for 10k rather than 5k. I'm doing my slow-ish long run tomorrow anyway. I'll just note the time along the way. It'll be a horrid 5k time at my long run pace, but I'll just have to get over that.
And clean house? People find time to do that? Laundry and dishes are about all we manage to keep up with on a regular basis.

I've got to run to the grocery store, but I'll be back later to report on all my running shopping. :thumbsup2

Not too bad...tough is when I follow the core work with some time on the TM. With a day rest in between--not so bad.

I put together a routine that takes about 50 minutes. I do it at home, so not much fancy equip. I have a stability ball, an 8 lb mini medicine ball and a pair of 10 lb dumbells.

I had been working with a trainer for about 4 months leading up to Goofy so I had some help putting the routine together. I have been doing it 3x a week since Goofy. I was thinking today about when I may have to alter it to keep it challenging. I think I still have 10 or 12 sessions prepaid with the trainer. I think I will go back to him next month and get some input/ideas.

Happy Valentine's Day, Ohana!

Happy Valentine's Day!!!

Valentine_0291.gif

:lmao:

I am laughing because this is the type of image that came up when I googled "valentine runner" !!! Thought this would be nice to come home to after my virtual 10K. Now, what's for dinner? Anyone with special plans?

I'm sitting here on Valentine's Day morning trying to catch up on several things over here. I'm nibbling on all the licorice flavored jelly beans that I selectively picked out of the bag while I type here. I am also recently back form the local bagel shop with the red, heart-shaped Valentine's bagels for all my girls here (well, all except for Coco).

I discovered that 35º is too cold for me to ride my bike, as I felt like I almost froze my feet off. Next time, I'll try to do a bit more to protect my toes from the cold in this weather. With any luck I won't be riding in the colder weather that much longer. Of course, I know that this weather would seem downright balmy to many of you, so I will try not to appear unappreciative of my weather. On the other hand I have to feel that having both a bad bike ride and bad run this weekend leaves me more likely to have a good run for next weekend's half marathon.

Nicole - You might want your own copy of the book for your continued reference, you'll have to consider your own reading habits there, but the offer of loaning you mine still stands.

Corinna - Awesome 5K time there, I'm just trying to break 30 minutes this year (although I secretly hope to get under 28 minutes this year, too). I ended up having to do my Virtual 5K in the gym Saturday afternoon due to some weekend scheduling issues, and I made sure to wear my visor for the indoor run.

Christine - That sounds like a solid routine you are doing several times a week there. I can't seem to stay with a set core routine that long. I hope you are seeing solid results from it.

Now that I am starting to feel the jelly bean sugar rush kicking in, I'll just say Happy Valentine's Day to all my cousins here.

Happy Valentines Day cousins!

I want to see the Xena outfit.. A friend of mine dressed as Angelina Jolie from Tomb Radier and that was a pretty cool costume, somehow they seem related to me.

I happen to like wearing the visor-- keeps the sun out of my eyes and helps manage dripping sweat.

Did a 5K in Sea Isle, NJ today running along the snowy beach with friends. The race was fun and I managed a PR of 31:28 :cool1:

Still working on posting pictures-- tried the link on the virtual 5K thread but got no picture to appear :sad2: I'll keep trying.

Mmmmm, licorice. My wife got me a bag of all-natural licorice bites for Valentine's Day. Yum!

Corrina, congrats on the 5k. That's a great time no matter what, even better given the weather. :)

Howdy, Cousins!

Just a quick check-in, ds is home from his auntie's and now the real world is telling him he has to work on the giant state report he has been doing improperly all week. If you're learning to do a research report, and the first page of directions tells you to write all notes on notecards in a specific manner, wouldn't you do that? Well, apparently you wouldn't if you thought your parents wouldn't realize it...or maybe that's just my kidlet...

Dennis and I did 6M yesterday. That was my first run since the tummy bug, and the first day my stomach did not hurt at all. I'm going to do weights later while I watch the Olympics.

Random thoughts:

  • DS has Australian green apple licorice. I think we'll give that a try this week.
  • I like running with a visor. It allows the heat to disappear, the sun out of my eyes, and contains my "glow".
  • I'm sorry Richard, you had a rough week at work. I'm compensating with an almost non-existent week this week -- working tomorrow (by myself -- nice and quiet), off Tues. & Wed., w/said kidlet, at a training Thurs. am, and at a forum Friday am.
  • Missed the Opening Ceremonies 'cause Dennis flat out refused to watch. Saw Wanda Sykes new stand-up instead. It was ok.
  • Corinna -- great job on the 5K! I would have taken one look at that snow and headed for my couch and some hot cocoa. :cold:
  • Happy Valentine's Day! :lovestruc
  • Why am I so sleepy lately? Honestly, I didn't wake up until almost 10 today! I usually can't sleep past 7 or so. I think winter is vaguely evil...
  • I cleaned my dresser like it was an Olympic event today. Now only if the rest of the room looked that good...

Hello to all the Cousins, I hope you are having a great long weekend. I'll think of you as I'm climbing the 4 flights of stairs to my office. Yep, I work in a building without an elevator...

Maria :upsidedow

Maria: I'll think of you tomorrow when I join you working. No 3 day weekend for me. DH has te tougher job though-- he has to try to get work done and entertain DD6 at the same time.

I did have one other thing to report to my cousins just cause it made me proud of myself. I did my 10 miler on Frday and amaged it without any walk breaks. I'm oping this can carry through to the Princess and I can run the whole thing with walk breaks at water stations (drinking and runing don't mix well for me).

Hope everyone has a good week. 'll try to check in at the mixer tomorrow.

Don't kids know they are not allowed to be sick on a holiday? ;) I hope it's not too tough for you. Poor Butch! Buy your dd is getting a better deal than my ds -- Dennis announced he's going into the office for a few hours so ds will be accompanying him and working on that report he'd like to ignore...

And I should have said you would think I'd be in better shape -- I've been climbing these stairs for almost 10 years, and it doesn't seem to get any easier :confused3 And I'll just be by myself with no interruptions, so it's actually not that bad of a day, I'm just feeling lazy and sleepy already.

Wow! Congratulations on no walk breaks! You are going to be a speed demon Princess! JenB: SpeedyPrincess! What do you think? I want to see the costume!
