Team 'Ohana--No One Left Behind: The Continuing Adventures

Richard: Nice looking medal display. I finally got a display for our medals. I'll try to post a picture on facebook-- I'm really bad at getting pictures to appear here-- can you link to facebook ones?

You sure can! At the bottom of the page with the photo is a link that can be used to share pictures without sharing anything else. The text above it reads "Share this photo with anyone by sending them this public link". Photobucket, Picasa, Shutterfly, and other free services are handy places to store pictures too.

Very funny :lmao: I haven't been away THAT long, Corinna, although if the crowd at my meeting yesterday had turned into a mob I might have needed that search party.
I am sure my appointment will go well, especially since I am down somewhere between 20 - 30 lbs from the last physical. Hopefully, they'll enjoy not having to tell someone to lose weight or risk various health consequences. I do still need to lose some weight, but I am a lot closer to my goals than last year.

I love this photo! The snow looks so nice, and is lots more than I have seen around my home down here if I added up all the total snow I have ever seen here. I do hope the snow war with the plowing reaches a resolution sometime soon.

Richard - your office display is looking fabulous! It's true you weren't gone that long (and not actually a lot more absent than I was during the front half of the week!) but it's great that you're back now!!

It is amazing how much less dread-inducing going to the doctor is when you know they aren't going to have a complaint about your weight! Not to mention all those tests that are more likely to come back non-worrisomely. Oops - I didn't mean to mention those...

Glad you like the photo of my snow war. It really is like a pitched battle with the plow. Ugh. I know it's not as much snow as some of the cousins are contending with, but I do end up moving all of it twice. Fortunately, this year I seem to be completely equal to the task! My neighbors across the street (whose home is featured in the photo) have a snow blower, and managed to move a lot of the Christmas storm so I think the battle goes a bit easier for them. We had a sunny day today. No more snow until Friday, according to the forecast. Ha.

I'm in for the Princess!!!! :cloud9:

Now I need to register online, book travel, etc. :dance3:

Woo hoo! I am so excited for you and for us getting to meet you so early in our cousindom! Good luck with all the arranging and keep us posted!

It sounds like a lot of you are going to have a great time at the Princess. Maybe I'll have to add that to the race schedule one of these years. Not this year though. Going for the Coast to Coast instead.

The Coast to Coast is so cool (even if it does sound a bit like a famous chain of Hardware stores. :rolleyes1). It's a very different race from WDW in January. Unlike the Princess which seems to be....pretty much exactly the same race as the half in January, hopefully minus the sleet, and, if they have their way, PLUS about 12,999 tiaras. I will not be wearing one, I'm afraid. Seriously, they sent THIS in their most recent email to us:

All of you are princesses, and tiaras are encouraged on the course! We would love to see all of you in a tiara at the starting line! So bring your own, or purchase one of our own Princess Half Marathon Weekend tiaras, which will be available for purchase in limited quantities at the Expo in the Jostens® Center.

If you register for the Princess, tiara-wearing becomes highly encouraged! I know many will find this a very fun aspect of this race, but it's just not me. I have a house full of boys! I drink whiskey. I'd rather do a lumberjack theme, come to think of it...

Note to self: Don't play softball with Team Ohana :lmao:

I think the food court at Poly sounds like a good place to meet. After we hang out we can go upstairs and get strange looks by posing with the Ohana sign. What time are people thinking?

I do have to say that I think the Princess half will be the only race where most of my cross training has been shoveling.

Jen, I'm glad you guys are enjoying your snow so much! We don't usually get "packey" snow until late Feb or March when it warms up and by then the kids aren't as keen on all the snow play for some reason. :confused3

ROFLOL on the snow shoveling as cross training. It's true here as well! Actually, unfortunately, it's been bumping a number of my runs, too. I figure this race is mostly a bejeweled victory lap, mostly.

And thank you for making a call on the meet location! Food court with Ohana picture to follow! I'm thinking late-lunch-like time (I don't think I want lunch from there, but you better believe I'll want a dole whip! 12:30? 1 pm? Later? Anyone? Gotta leave enough time to get over to POR, but the monorail/bus thing makes it not too difficult for those of us without wheels. :)

I did finally get the weekend's postponed long run today. It was swapped with Saturday or something because that was the day I did the spin/bodypump double whammy. It's not that I've been a slug this week. It was not the easiest 10 by any means, but I do feel like I'm going to be OK for the Princess. Except for my very, very grouchy trapezius up by my neck. It's really acting up. Nothing helps and it definitely hurts while I'm running, though it is no worse after than before. It's always something, I tell you.

The checkup did go well, the vital signs were good and the doctor told me to just make sure I keep enjoying myself so I will stay with the exercise program.... We'll wait to see how those pesky test results work out, but I don't expect any problems (of course the whole reason to do those tests is to find the unexpected!). My biggest problem was wanting to splurge on a peach shake at Chick-Fil-A afterwards but having to settle for cookies and cream instead.;)

Note to self: Don't play softball with Team Ohana :lmao:
:rotfl:

Actually, the picture I posted of Sienna during the snow last week was from my Facebook page. I've linked to them several times with success, and trust me, with my limited tech ability, that's an accomplishment!
Jackie
Cool! I never knew we could do that! I will have to figure that out.

We had a sunny day today. No more snow until Friday, according to the forecast. Ha.

But a sunny winter day here means extra cold! It was nice to see the sun though. Yesterday I had to drive a new employee around town to a few meetings - one place was in a residential area of South Minneapolis and no joke they had not plowed the last storm at all! Not just a bad plow job - none. My Honda Accord totally got stuck! I was not about to get out and try to get myself out with my ice scraper in my business attire. Luckily enough times switching between forward and reverse, we finally caught some traction.

I like the idea of meeting early afternoon at the Poly for snack and Ohana photos. I would think 1 or 1:30pm would be good. Someone today in the Princess thread guessed the POR meet was 5pm? Is that true or did someone correct her since I last checked the thread?

Sorry to hear about your traps, Corinna - lame! That muscle is always the tightest spot for me - not just running - but always.

I'm all booked and registered for the race and travel - yay!

Good morning! Looks like I will be heading back to work today after 2 days at home contending with snow and illness--not me, my husband. I have been pretty good with my workouts this week while at home. I took a 4 mile walk to do errands in the snow yesterday (plow hadn't been through yet) so I skipped the TM. I did still do my strength and conditioning routine, however.

In my spare time I did get my personal page done for the 3-Day. If anyone would like to take a peek at that send me a PM and I will tell you how to do that.

Richard, glad to hear all went well with the doctor. He has a point about keeping exercise fun. Good for you getting those tests done. I know I am a bit remiss on those things.

Corrina, good luck keeping up with the snow. That is a workout in itself!!

Good luck with Princess training, everyone. It was my first event of any distance last year and I had a ball! Wish I could be there for the meet at Ohana and to cheer you all on!

Richard, glad everything went well. Sorry your first choice of shake wasn't available, but some ice cream is better than none. :)

Hey, Did anyone notice the clippie on the bottom left in Nicole's posts? She is our reigning weekly Biggest Loser! :woohoo: Yep, she lost a greater percentage of weight than anyone else in the challenge last week!

Still trying to recover from the crushing disappointment of virtually no snow after a promised blizzard in my house -- dh wanted to shovel, ds wanted a snow day, and dk (dear kitty) wanted laps o' plenty to lay in.

I got out the Wii and put in the BL and Wii Fit Plus, Christmas gifts I hadn't tried yet. I did a core workout on BL that kicked my posterior! Apparently, I have no core strength. It's good to know this, now I have another thing to work on improving.

I'd send dh to shovel for you guys, if I could. He actually enjoys it and looks forward to storms.

Richard -- I am so glad everything went well at your appointment! You must have been so proud of the amazing progress you have made!:thumbsup2 And I love the Goofy medal display! You earned every one of those!

Princesses -- I wish I could be there, but I agree with Corinna about the tiara -- I just don't think it would stay on my head! :rotfl2: You guys are going to have a blast!

Corinna -- I'm glad you got your long run in, I know that's been bugging you. I hope your shoulder is better soon!

JenB -- Shrinky dinks! I remember those! What a wonderful day you had. Poor ds has a science test today, so he spent yesterday afternoon going over cloud types, dewpoint, etc. -- and getting really annoyed we weren't seeing snow. He had an early dismissal, so he still had to go to school and take a test before he could come home. He had convinced himself there wouldn't be school today. :confused3

John -- I was hit over the head with a baseball bat when I was 4...our neighbor boy was also 4, and his father had passed when he was an infant. He told me they drove up to heaven in a car to see him. Being 4, I knew this was impossible, but didn't know to just let him say it. So when I told him that he was lying, he proceeded to assault me...Unfortunately, this has not stopped me from being far too candid, although I'd like to think the intervening years have taught me discretion can be the better part of valor...:rolleyes1

Debra -- Oh wow, you really were buried under the snow! It sounds like you have been making the best of a bad situation, and also taking care of your fellow man, what Ohana spirit you have!

Ok, I have to eat breakfast and do some work. I didn't eat at home because I couldn't see to get up this morning.

Everyone have a great day -- :wave2: to Christine, Rebecca, Jeanne, Julie, Kathy and Jen!

Maria :upsidedow

Christine – I hope you were able to dig out and make it to Mark’s appointment

Rebecca – I hope you’re feeling better soon. I’m sorry you won’t be able to make the POR meet but Le Cellier sounds much better.

Maria – Glad you’re feeling better. Sleep in until 6:30???? Shouldn’t you sleep in until at least 8:00?

Richard – Congrats on the free entry to the Clear Lake Tri – sounds like you’re ready to go back and conquer that course this year.
LOVE the art print. Was it a one of a kind? I wish I had seen that when we were there. I LOVE it!

Julie – an addition – sounds wonderful but I’m not sure I would enjoy the whole process. Do you have workers in and out of your house all day?

Corinna – I hope the snow battle is still working for you. I know how frustrating those snow plows and snow piles can be. You sound like you are doing great with your training for the Princess. I have not been so consistent with my training. I think this will be my most under trained race ever.

Debra – Yay! So glad that you get to go to WDW for your break and that it overlaps with the Princess.
You are such a great neighbor to help everyone out. All the shoveling is definitely cross training.

John – I LOVE the snow and I keep reminding myself this after having my girls home with me for so long. Schools were closed three days last week and all of this week. They are suppose to go back on Tuesday but are now calling for more snow on Monday so we’ll see. Again, I LOVE snow and family togetherness!

Nicole – I’m glad that things worked out for you and that you’ll be at Princess weekend. :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:Congrats on being the Biggest Loser this week – that’s excellent!

JenB – Did you dig out and make it to work today?

I have not been too consistent with my training since returning home from the Goofy. I've had pain in my thigh that I can't quite self diagnosis. I think it actually started on Christmas day during an Apples to Apples game. I bent forward to put down a card and felt a snap/hot spot in my upper thigh. I guess that's a sign of getting old when you injury yourself playing a card game.:sad2:
Since then I cannot sit cross-legged(indian-style) because my leg hurts to bend that way. I NEVER had a problem with flexibility before. It is quite frustrating. I completed the Goofy without any pain in the area.:confused3
It has become more bothersome in the last few weeks. Any ideas? I think I need to visit the doctor soon. Really wanted to try and PR at the Princess but might have to go with a "finish under 3:30" attitude.

Thanks for the shout out, Maria!
Sorry you didn't get the much-anticipated snow.

I'm sorry to hear about your leg! That sounds painful and frustrating that you don't feel up to your best for the race. I'm a relative newbie to running but a pro at other sports injuries. Have you been icing and taking enough rest days? It's hard to know if it's a tear or just a deep strain. Regardless, I hope it feels better for you at the Princess!
And it's not just age - I popped my collar bone out of joint in January just picking up my DD. Now I have a new skill - popping it back in without pain. :rolleyes1
Thanks for the congrats on my Biggest Loser. :thumbsup2

UUUUGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

Just checked the most recent forecast for Myrtle Beach this weekend for my half, and guess what? SNOW SHOWERS. 32 degrees, wind, and snow showers. How many races can one person be expected to run in those conditions? Seriously, people. In November I volunteered in the cold rain while DH ran. In December I ran a half in the sleet. In January, well, you were all there. You know. In February I'm going to do it all over again. (Kathy, you may want to reconsider Tobacco Road in March. There may be a rare blizzard in Raleigh. :lmao:)

Nicole - Congratulations!

Kathy - Sounds like it might be time to see the doctor, if for nothing else just to rule out anything serious.

Jackie

Jeanne – I’m sorry you got closed out of the Tobacco Road race. I hope we’ll still be able to see you while we’re down there. Any recommendations for dinner the night before the race? Want to meet up with us?
Love your plan for the Wine and Dine – you have such a fun family!

Kathy: I think we have plans for Saturday evening, but we intend to be at the race on Sunday and will be able to meet up with people for anything planned that day. What hotel are you staying at?

I had the bride and groom here through Tuesday.....what a whirlwind weekend we had. But we got a ton of stuff done. Now we just have to decide on a florist (we met with 3 different ones) and arrange the transportation. Still no dress for me yet. I ordered one online that I really liked, but it was nothing like what I expected. It went back today. I'm still trying to lose weight but it keeps going down and up....sooooo frustrating!

You could always wear something black and tough-looking and go as Xena, Warrior Princess. :lmao:

See, I told you -- fits right in with the wacky Ohanaites! :thumbsup2

I want to hear Corinna yell that battle cry when she starts to run :rotfl:

Ok, now I have to suck it up and do my weights, otherwise my very short streak of working out will be over...sigh. I'd better pull them out. :headache:

Wait, is that Samantha Brown I hear calling?! I taped her "Fanathon" at WDW last night -- suddenly the weights don't seem like such a bad idea!

Maria :upsidedow

Jackie & John - Thanks for the tip on linking to Facebook photos. It's always a good day when I learn something new!

Maria - Good luck with the Wii BL and Wii Fit. I have gotten to enjoy the Wii Fit (although I do make sarcastic comments back at it--and even yell at it now and then, too...:rolleyes1).

Nicole - Congrats on all the hard work for BL!

Kathy - The artwork is a pencil drawing I picked up at the DTD Art of Disney store during marathon weekend. There were also some drawings of each race mascot, but it was the only one that I saw with all 3 in it.

Jackie - I'm sorry about your projected race weather for the coming weekend. When I ran a race in Austin in December in 35 degree rain, I had no idea it would be the best race weather I would have for a long while.

Corinna - An otherwise all boy house, hmmm, just the opposite here. I sure wasn't ready to raise girls growing up with only brothers, but I think I've done fine. The side benefit is that I think they are easier to embarrass than boys would be.

No snow here, just cold rain--and lots of it. I got some isolated sleet for a short bit yesterday, too. In the morning I'll be checking the news to see if the local wildlife is boarding an ark 2 at a time before heading to work.

You could always wear something black and tough-looking and go as Xena, Warrior Princess. :lmao:

:scratchin Is it me or did I just hear a gauntlet smack the floor? If I can find the right shirt, I might even be able to pull it off. I always thought I resembled her little friend more than I resembled Xena herself, but gotta go with the Princess in this case. Of course that would mean no WISH green...

Maria - Good luck with those weights. I did the Biggest Loser Yoga workout earlier - who knew there were weights in the third part???? I also LOVE Samantha Brown!

Richard - You may be right, but give me a few more years and it will be REAL embarrassing if I call my son "Sweetie" in front of the guys. Or worse - if their dad does it. It could happen - his father did the same to him - at a basketball practice, no less.

I want to write more but my browser is acting sluggish. I think I need to restart first. Back soon with more shoutouts...

If you want to maximize the embarrassment don't forget to give your son a big kiss when calling him "Sweetie"!

Oh yes you did hear that gauntlet drop down!!...and I always liked Gabrielle as her character really grew with the show.

Ah, but just think if fellow Minnesotan Kevin Sorbo was waiting at the finish line...I think I'd run faster! :rolleyes1

Actually, I like the sound of that: Corinna: Warrior Princess pirate:

Methinks someone just found a new nickname...;)

Maria :upsidedow

 You guys crack me up.

I didn't know Kevin Sorbo was a Minnesotan! Turns out he grew up in Mound, MN. Which is on the far side of the cities from me -I'll often say "Oh, Woodbury - that's not so bad. It's not like we have to go to.....MOUND."

Disclosure: I'm not that big a Kevin Sorbo fan, but I did think he was great in Andromeda. At least the first few seasons. Anyone else watch that one?

As for Corinna: Warrior Princess, I'll take it. It's better than all my other nicknames put together. I swear. :thumbsup2

Well, if there really is a gauntlet that's been thrown down, I really will see what I can find. No promises.

Now a couple more shout-outs:

Jackie - I think you've run in more snow than I have this winter!!! I hope by now you've got the right gear for it.

Kathy - your leg does not sound so good! Too bad it is interfering with your training, but safety first, of course. The only idea I can offer is - have you tried a reputable chiropractor? Some of them just do the same few quick cracks on everyone, but the one I go really does a comprehensive check on me every time I see her and truly keeps me up and running. She has helped a lot with issues in my feet, legs, arms....pretty much everything.

Jeanne - it sounds like that wedding is really coming together! Too bad dresses are so hard to buy for these events. I'm sure you'll find something perfect soon. I hear ya on the weight. I mysteriously put back on a couple of pounds and I thought I'd been doing pretty well. Hopefully your numbers will soon be where you want them to be!

Christine - I'm definitely interested in your page for the 3-Day. We cousins have to support each other in these things, after all!

Richard - sleet is my LEAST favorite weather of all. Though cold rain isn't that fun either, truthfully.

I will remember that maximum embarrassment tip. So far, both boys are definitely under the line where affection is embarrassing at all - they go to the same school and every morning before they go to their own classrooms, they make sure to give each other a big hug and sometimes kiss, too. I'm just treasuring it for as long as it lasts. :goodvibes

You could always wear something black and tough-looking and go as Xena, Warrior Princess. :lmao:

Okay...when I first saw this I thought you were responding to Jeanne looking for a dress to wear to the wedding in the post immediately above yours! :lmao:

Corinna, Warrior Princess has a nice ring to it. Now I am really sorry I will miss the Princess--looks like the cousins will be all decked out!!
