Team 'Ohana--No One Left Behind: The Continuing Adventures

Maria: Congrats to your son:banana::banana: You have a right to be proud. Sounds like he worked really hard.

Richard: I hope the week improves for you. I hate when the weather interferes with my plans.

Corinna: Sending some :goodvibes to your GF

Kathy: Sorry you missed going to NC and that you had a sick kid :sad2: There are tons of decent hotels near Rutgers. You are also welcome to stay with us if you want as long as the allergy problems are not yours-- we have a dog and cat. We live roughly an hour south of New Brunswick but are going to the race ourselves, so carpooling would not be a problem.

Jackie: :thumbsup2 on the PR-- awesome job. I managed a big PR in the Princess and know how awesome that feels-- enjoy it, you worked hard for those minutes :cloud9:

Mel: So sorry about your cramping issues-- Butch had the same issue on the full in Jan. At least you know you CAN DO IT so you'll get em next time.

As for me: I did a 5K this weekend in Philia called "Get Your Rear in Gear" to benefit colon cancer research. The weather was nice but a little warm for my taste. There were some really funny team names-- "We've Got the Runs" "Backside Pride" and "Badass Babes". I managed my fist sub 30 min 5K and was thrilled! The last 1/2 mile was really rough and I barely did it, but managed a chip time of 29:57.

John: love the doggy! :goodvibes BTW, was that your house in the photos? We have the exact same wall color (bright gold) and tile floor....and also have red accents! great minds think alike.

Off to work on my kids' taxes......

Yup, that's our house. It's a nice change from the white the builder covered everything in. You almost needed sunglasses to be comfortable inside, it was so blindingly white. Now only our poor houseguests need to suffer with it, since we didn't touch any of the extra or spare rooms.

Taxes, everyone's least favorite springtime chore. I was an expat recently, and because of all of the complex tax laws, credits, and treaties, the company has an accounting firm handle them for us. This is my last year for that, though, so next year it's back to the drudgery. I'm kind of envious of the foreign tax system we had to pay under in Russia. It was one simple form - write down total Russian income, multiply by 13%, pay tax. Of course, documenting our Russian income and number of days spent in the country was a hassle, but the form itself was easy. :rolleyes1

Thanks to everyone for all the congratulations! We are still pretty excited :cloud9:

This is contrasted by my total meltdown on the eating/exercise front. I haven't moved in 3 days, and I've eaten more like Jabba the Hut...:scared1: Gotta get it back in gear -- any motivation, tips, gentle reminders and gobsmacks gladly accepted -- I know I have to get going again, it's just doing it :rolleyes1

JenB -- Congrats on the PR, and I just love some of those team names! :rotfl:

Jeanne -- Poor kid -- he had a flouride treatment, so he had to have soft food for dinner. That's ok, he informed me this morning he wants to go to WWOHP this summer to celebrate. Guess I'd better start checking the Universal website...we need to plan a summer vacation anyway, so if that's what he really wants to do...:goodvibes

Kathy -- I am so sorry you had to miss the race, but what can you do? I think finding another race is a great way to bounce back! :cool1: I didn't realize there was "super relaxation" yoga either, until she taught it one week. It was a huge hit with the entire class ;)

Richard -- The rains are reaching us today and tomorrow, I feel your pain :headache: I hope this does turn out to be a fantastic week! We can do it! :cheer2:

John -- You officially have a cutie! :dog:

Julie -- I read a cute story on another thread about your 3 yr. old and chicken fingers, so adorable that he thought having them meant he was going to WDW! Spoiling those children, you are! (But in a wonderful way!) princess: pirate: pirate:

Debra -- My brief descent into Yoda speak reminded me I wanted to check on you -- missed you are! :yoda:

Corinna -- Have you recovered from your week of BL coaching yet? I was totally drained after mine. Just so many people to keep up with, and I think it's pretty hard for all the coaches. Maybe next time they will do teams, so it won't be so large? I don't know, I guess most people like one large thread. I still find it intimidating sometimes, but I'm going to try posting more to help me get back on track.

Nicole -- Still working on the shoe issue? Isn't it funny how what seems like it should be an easy thing is actually made harder because there are so many options? It's good, but it's also overwhelming to see the variety of shoes. ::yes::

I saw a production truck for the tv pilot I mentioned earlier as I was going to work this morning. It even said, "Boston's Finest" on the side, along with Walt Disney/abc studios productions. I'll have to keep my eyes open for celebrity sightings, you never know! :happytv:

Hey Cousins.. CONGRATS to all the race finishers this past weekend!!!!

I am still struggling with things since Laurel keeps changing her schedule. I can't wait until I know exactly when she will go down for a nap (and she actually naps in her crib!!). I was able to do 4 miles yesterday.. but really need to get my butt moving if I plan to finish the Minneapolis 1/2 marathon. You would think after 3 kids my body would bounce back faster!!! I guess my body is bouncing back but my legs are dragging behind!

Kathy - So sorry you missed your 1/2 marathon! I know how sick kids can make things tough!

Mel - So sorry you missed your PR, but you had a good race!!

Jackie - WOOT WOOT! Way to go on your PR. If you are going to break it, break it good!!

Maria - My eating is HORRENDOUS!! I blame it on nursing... but I really shouldn't. I seriously could pack it away if I wanted to. I am always hungry! Yesterday I hit the store and stocked up on fruit and hope that helps me out! Snap out of it girl!!!!

Jen - seriously loving the name "We've Got the Runs". Maybe because I have kids and tend to giggle at that sort of thing. It's like baby gas, you can't help but giggle!

OK... gotta go tend to a crying baby. I helped Emma train for the run part of her Presidential Fitness Test. I think I will hit the balance ball later and work on these non existent abs!! Oh and did I mention my doctor was proud of me for running already. Love my doctor!

Hello Ohana cousins by marriage.

Mel - Sorry to hear about your calf cramps. At least you know in your mind that a PR was VERY doable.

Jen - WTG on the sub-30 5K! Love the team names.

Jackie - Thanks so much again for setting up our mini WISH meet Saturday. It was really nice. A super big congrats on your whopping PR. 20 minutes in a half... unbelievable! Give Bill a hardy atta' boy from me.

Jeanne - It was great seeing you and John out on the course. It's amazing what a little out and back will do. I was cruising along pretty well when I saw you the first time and pretty much dead by the time I got back!

Lastly, a super big thank you to Kathy. I felt and still feel awful that you got stuck at home while I got to go enjoy myself.

Thanks for letting me butt in.

I forgot to send a  to Mel -- you are going to do great the next time you attempt that PR, I just know it!

And Jen, I am so impressed you are running with a newborn! You are a warrior woman! pirate:

Thanks for stopping by Mike, always great to see those relatives by marriage -- and everyone is a cousin to Ohana! :grouphug:

I am eating better today (and counting all my points), and I went to yoga at lunchtime. I plan to run for half an hour when I get home, just to get moving again, and to do an hour of incline walking tomorrow morning.

I'm going to go on sparkpeople and find some articles to help me. Another WISH friend pointed me to a great one about motivation and how to get going again, so I plan to take all the good advice I receive! :thanks:

Maria - can you post that motivation article link? I could really use it this week!

I don't like doing back to back posts but..

Rumor Alert for the Plum fans --

it's posted on Janet Evanovich's website that Katherine Heigl (formerly Izzy, Grey's), has been cast as Stephanie Plum, for "One for the Money" the movie -- hence her new dark locks. Any speculation on Morelli or Ranger?

I think the Rock will be Ranger. Not sure on Morelli.

Hi Maria!

Truthfully, I have had a hard time trying to keep up here since Rome--I was only just starting to feel like I fit in before Rome. So, I thought a good start would be to say hi to the person before me--especially with a green light on!

I hope you guys don't give up on me...I need to be here!!

Christine: We wouldn't give up on you. Welcome back from Rome. Good luck getting back into the swing of things.

Maria: I have no great motivation tricks, but I find that if I have an event scheduled it helps. I feel more accountable if I know I'll have to run in a public setting-- kind of makes me really want to be thinner and faster so I keep up with the exercise and diet.

Mike: Nice to see you here, come visit any time.

Nicole: Thanks for the congrats. I hope you find the motivation you need.

Jeanne: Good luck with continued wedding planning.

I got a little ambitious with my 5K goals this past weekend and knew I was pushing it pretty hard (I really don't run that fast, ever). I didn't realize how hard until I looked at my Garmin data yesterday. I got a new Garmin with HR monitor and haven't really played with it much yet-- this was the first run I wore the HR monitor for. I went out too fast and was really feeling lousy at the 2 mile mark. I walked to take some water from the water station then tried to run again-- running lasted maybe a few minutes before I had to take another 1-2min walk break. I was kind of beating myself up over the break feeling like I had wimped out wasn't pushing hard enough but I was overall happy I made it in under the 30min wire. When I looked at my HR data I no longer felt like a wimp, just a bit out of shape. My HR hit 206:scared1: at the point I felt I needed a break. I clearly have a way to go fitness wise but looking at the data and corelating it to how I felt was really interesting to me.

Thanks! I met with my personal trainer for the first time since Goofy. I think it went well... 30 minutes with him, then an 80 minute incline workout.

The Rock?? He hardly fits my mental image of Ranger. He's too big and muscular. I was picturing someone built more like a Navy Seal. Guess they cast for box office numbers and not for me.

Ok, if I had my dream cast, it would include Adam Rodriguez as Ranger, Alex O'Laughlin as Morelli, and Monique as Lula.

JenB -- Heart rate at 206?! I am not a physician nor do I play one on tv, but I'm pretty sure that's too high! No wonder you were feeling a bit overdone! I'm really glad you got the PR, though!

John -- I'm with you...even if I don't get my dream cast, I think the Rock would be better playing Tank...

Christine -- Wow! What a way to jump back in, that is a serious workout! Welcome back from Rome, we're glad to have you back!

Feeling good since I finally made it up at 4:30 to do my 5M, and I also did 5M after work last night, so I think I'm back on a roll! :woohoo:

Everyone have a Zippity Doo Dah Day!

Maria :upsidedow

Maria - I'll definitely try to have a Zippity Doo Dah Day ;), it would certainly be a welcome improvement over recent days for me--although to be fair, I have gotten past the worst of my monthly work schedule this week...

John - think I have to agree with your observations on casting.

Christine - An 80 minute incline workout! Now that is something--good job!

JenB - The Garmin is wonderful for looking at numbers (and charts and graphs) and associating those with your run after the fact.

Debra - I'm enjoying your online articles, but missing your presence here. (although I am quite aware that life has bigger priorities than the DIS--shockingly true, isn't it?)

First, a little parental bragging...Amanda received her notice form the University that she will be walking at graduation as a Magna Cum Laude graduate in May.

Second, after a light training week last week (partly due to a rough work and family schedule and partly due to aggravating my knee) I am back to training for my 70.3 now renamed to "Ironman 70.3 Texas" from "Lone Star 70.3". Speaking of the 70.3, I finally got registered for it, too. I got in my longest daily swim distance of 2000 yards yesterday at a great time for me. I was also able to confirm that I now fit into my wetsuit without risk of busting a seam.

Third, hello to all the team out there!!!!

Richard - Congratulations to Amanda! :dance3: And to mom and dad. And to dad for fitting into his wetsuit!

Maria - Keep on rolling! :woohoo: And I think Tank is even bigger than the Rock.

John
- I think Ranger IS big and muscular, maybe not quite Rock-like, but close.

Christine - The joy of family is that no matter how long you're away, you're still family! And you certainly know how to get back into the workout swing.

JenB
- I don't have the heart rate monitor, and I'm afraid of what it would tell me. But I'm pretty sure you were pushing really hard! It is interesting to get confirmation that your low point was truly your maximum effort. Absolutely nothing to beat yourself up about!

Mike
- Thanks for stopping by. Attaboy delivered to Bill. He really enjoyed meeting everyone Saturday night. I think you're his new role model, if and when he ever attempts another full. He will NOT be running ultras!

Mel - I'm still working on the Morelli thing.

Since I didn't punish my body enough on Sunday, I signed up for another half this Saturday. I will now officially qualify for the Half Fanatics. Take that, Myrtle Beach. You can cancel your race and I will still find a way! DH and I are running Raleigh Rocks - it's a small race put on by a local promoter. The first year was a disaster (Jeanne will attest), the second year somewhat improved, and this is the third year. No goody bag, just a shirt; old chip timing. Hilly course. But what the heck. I get a medal for running the miles I would have run anyway, plus a couple of extras.

Jackie

Good morning, cousins! Happy weekend!

I have the morning off, so I am about to do my strength/core routine. Since I saw the PT on Wednesday I have some suggestions on how to switch it up some. I started with the PT back in August and pretty much went 2 times a week up until Goofy. Then, when I got back I put my own routine together and have done that 3 times a week--except in Rome. I have 9 PT sessions left. I plan to go 2 times a month April-July then one last time in August. My goal is still working on core and strength--not bulk!! I want the trainer to help me add to/vary my workout and to show me which machines in the gym I may want to use when I am there to cross train on the elliptical.

Hope everyone has a great weekend and has a chance to get their workouts in! Who has events coming up in April? I have had "event envy" reading about what all of you have done. I have not done anything since Goofy. Thank goodness for the virtual 10K's to keep me motivated!!

Hi Cousins! I'm back - I was slacking off all week on a covert mission to Orlando for the kids' spring break (I do not know that I could have gotten away with those last few race trips if we hadn't had a kids' trip to point to.

So after a week of eating the wrong stuff, tromping around theme parks, being cold at Typhoon Lagoon, wishing Harry Potter were open (man does that look cool) and having once nice long run around OKW, DTD and SSR , I am back and....faced with a huge pile of scenery to paint in the next week. :headache:

Sooo many congratulations are in order this week!

JenB - Way to go on that sub 30! It sounds like you really rocked that one out!

Maria - Congratulations on Boston Latin! I used to live out there, but I probably wasn't aware of how competitive it was to get in there. So exciting!

Richard - Great news on Amanda's outstanding academic achievement! Congratulations to all of you!

Jackie - Where there is a will, there is a way! Congratulations on your half-fanatic status!

Christine - I agree with richard 80 minutes of incline is hard-core. Seems like you're back in all the way now!

April Events for me: The Challenge Obesity 5K on the 17th - I hope to meet some fellow Biggest Loser DISers there. :) I think that I may also do the Get In Gear Half at the end of April. I know too many people who are doing it and I am apparently highly susceptible to race-peer-pressure.:sad2:

Man, it's good to be back in the land of normal. :grouphug:
