Team 'Ohana--No One Left Behind: The Continuing Adventures

Thanks for the b-day wishes. Not doing anything today, I'm afraid, except maybe catching a flick & getting take-out by myself. But the well wishes are much appreciated.

Nicole: WTG in reading your goal weight! That's fabulous news! As is the REI stroller--I, too, am a member. You're going to really make an impressive sight out there running with BOB. People will be checking the two of you out.

Richard: Woo hoo for your 10K PR by over 8 minutes. Fabulous! Glad to see you avoided all the controversy with the wrong course directions. (Seriously, though, I would be steamed if I were an elite.)

Jackie: I believe our respective chunks will learn to run from us. Or us from them. Whatever. :lmao: How is your calf doing today? You're still going to the therapist tomorrow regardless, right?

Christine: Oooh, a Bunny Hop sounds like fun. But I really understand the desire to kick back and have a relaxing day. And you DID do strength & conditioning--so you weren't a slug at all! :yay:

John: As a person who does have the stereotypical MIL, let me just say how happy I am you do not. I hope you're having a fabulous time with the family!

Jen: Awww, I have to say that I think it sounds cute that Laurel wants to be held all the time. (Can you tell I'm not a mom?) I'm so glad to hear the training-voice happy tone in your posts! :cool1:

Allie: Hi,girl! Miss you!

AFM: Not much today. Still trying to crawl back into a healthy place, where simple WOs don't exhaust me. But I'm having a better April, so far. Of course, Easter chocolate makes everything better--luckily, I'm hoarding. (Just kidding, I'm going back on that diet tomorrow!)

Happy Birthday Debra! Hope you're doing something fun right now!

Richard...congrats on your PR!!

Jackie...I'm with you. My halfs weren't quite back to back, but I could take a break now with no guilt.

JenL...congrats on the 5 miler! Great to see you getting back into it.

My job transition is still ongoing. I'm part-time in each place for 3 more weeks, then at the college full-time. I've decided that it was a nice gesture to give 10 weeks notice since I had patients booked out pretty far, but 10 weeks is waaaay too long to leave a job.

As for training, meh. I have CMM in a couple weeks and have completely lost interest. I'm ready to segue into duathlon training with a possible tri in August. DD17 and I went for a bike ride on Sun so now she's thinking about trying a duathlon in June.

Just popping in to wish Debra.......
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!

Life is so crazy right now. I just got back from Greek Easter where they had 60 people at a sit-down dinner and 3 50-lb lambs on a spit (sorry, Debra!) It was really quite a feast. I'm busy, busy with both weddings right now. We're down to the final stretch with my daughter's and starting to go full throttle with my son's. Believe it or not, I am still getting my workouts in. Part of it is wanting to look good for the weddings, but the other part is that I really want to kick butt at the Wine and Dine. I can now run 2.5 miles without stopping. I'm also training on doing some serious speedwalking. I can run 2.5 miles at 12:30 but I am totally spent afterwards. If walk the same distance at a 13:20 pace, I feel like I could go on forever. THAT is why I usually choose to walk. Anyway, I'm not telling anyone in the family about my training.....this team relay thing is SERIOUS!

That's it for now......love to all my Ohana cousins!

Hi Cousins!

Crazy days here as well - My training is suffering a bit while I get this play on its feet. Last week was a huge lot of painting, most of which is done. This week is learning how to run the scene shifts, mostly. And I'm running follow spot for another show tonight. IN the midst of it all, on DS did a huge science experiment at the fire station yesterday (for safety and supervision) and the other is protesting going to school on the basis that "it takes too much time!"

I did run outside over the weekend and made it back to Bodypump on Monday. No spin class today - other matters are pressing. :sad2: I hate when it gets like this, but at the same time I am enjoying working on these shows. I decided that I'll be doing the Get in Gear 10K on the 24th rather than the half marathon. Cheaper and sounds like more fun. Next Saturday, I've got a 5K scheduled and will hopefully see Nicole there and with any luck at all, get my legitimately timed sub-30 5K. If I don't let the training slip too much more, anyhow.

Here's a little sample of some of my handiwork:

This one contains actors and is in the actual performance space:

Hey Cousins!

I'm up to 21M for the week, so it's going well. I plan to add another 7 Sat., which will be a really good week for me. It is like a sauna on my office floor, so I'm taking a break to at least mentally cool off. I still prefer the heat to the cold!

Corinna -- You are very talented! We already knew that, but it's nice to see the fruits of your labor. :thumbsup2 It's easy to see why this is taking so much of your time!

Jeanne -- I want to go to Greek Easter! It sounds like quite the party! DD seems to be getting a pretty good deal -- draped in gold, Mediterranean diet, and a husband to boot! :bride:

Mel -- You are so nice. 10 weeks notice...wow. I'm jealous you and Jeanne have kids to race with. My ds thinks getting off the couch is a major production. He's thin as a whip from gymnastics, but not about to run :sad2:

Debra -- What movie did you see? I hope you had a great time! popcorn::

Allie -- Great to see you! :goodvibes

Jen -- I'm glad Laurel gives you some TM breaks -- 5M is awesome! It is so hard to get moving gain after creating a whole human! ::yes::

John -- Company can definitely keep you busy! Glad it sounds like you are enjoying MIL's visit. :)

Jackie, Christine, Richard, JenB -- :wave2:

Hope everyone is set for a fantastic weekend!

Maria :upsidedow

Hey folks! Thanks for the birthday wishes! I ended up seeing The Art of the Steal, a good documentary about public funding an art. It wasn't Clash of the Titans, but...:rotfl2:

Mel: 10 weeks? Wow, you are really generous with your notice time. I'm surprised you're not crazy yet. I'm glad you're almost at the end. I'm sure CMM will be fun, at least once you're there! And how cool that you and DD might be doing a duo together. I kind of envy your training partner situation. What great mother-daughter bonding. (Speaking of which, is there a Mother's Day event you'll be doing?)

Jeanne: :worship: for your super-secret kick-booty training for the Wine & Dine. It sounds like the relay will have quite a few surprises! Shhhhhh, we'll keep the secret. And you've got some stamina with the other distance events you're doing – weddings! I couldn't sustain interest in my own wedding, let alone someone else's. :worship:

Corinna: Ooooh, tech pictures! I love them! It sounds like you, as with Jeanne and Mel and Maria and – well, everyone but me – has multiple balls in the air that you're juggling with ease! I hope the theater knows how lucky they are to have you.

Maria: Oooh, look how casually you drop in that line, "I plan to add another 7 Sat." You're the woman! It sounds as if you're over what ailed you and are really racking up the miles. (AND you were doing that when you were sick, too.) :woohoo:

AFM: Nothing impressive like these folks. But I did manage to get up this morning and run first thing. Before it started to rain all day. That's something, right?

I just need to share my excitement and/or terror... I just registered for the Marine Corps Marathon. I guess I will be doing another full this year after all. The girl I've been running with for the past year and I have been trying to pick a fall marathon - we wanted to do Chicago, but it filled the day after we discussed it, and then we've been tossing a few ideas around, and yesterday we just started emailing back and forth. Today I got home and she had sent me her confirmation, and I just decided to go for it.

What have I done?

Jackie

What have I done?

Jackie

I'd laugh at you but the Marine Corps Marathon is 2 weeks before my after 70.3 and 2 weeks before San Antonio, so I'll be busy then too. [OK, so I wouldn't really laugh at you, but would be happy to laugh with you about it ;).

Jackie -- You are a braver woman than I, Gunga Din... You are going after your goals with a veangance! pirate: You are going to do us proud!

Richard -- I am always amazed when I see your racing plans. You just see something you want to do and you go after it. A real go getter, you are! :thumbsup2

Debra -- Running first thing always works best for me, glad you got it in before the retelling of the epic of Gilgamesh -- or maybe that's just in my neck of the woods, but my goodness, is this ever going to stop?!

I'm off to read Heat Wave. Yes, that's Richard Castle's book. I know, it's probably going to be awful, and I'm sure there are no photos of Nathan Fillion, but my number finally came up at the library, so here I am :rotfl: By the way for anyone who cares (that may just be me). Castle has been picked up for a 3rd season :yay:

Sci Fi buddies: I've read that either V or Flashforward will survive, but not both. Any preference? I'm not sure which one I would save, if I can only have one.

Also, anyone check out the 2nd season of Merlin on SyFy? I actually like it. It's a little cheesy, but there's just something I enjoy. Maybe it's nice after the gravity and darkness of SGU...

Maria :upsidedow

I didn't know Merlin was back...gonna have to check that out! I havent' watched the new V yet, but we did get through the first several episodes of Flash Forward on Netflix. I've also been watching the first season of Leverage and seasons 1 and 2 of Dead Like Me.

We're off to WDW for an overnighter tomorrow. DD17s band is opening the Spectromagic parade!

Maria - It sounds like you're having a good week of work outs. :thumbsup2 Are you and/or Dennis doing the Run to Remember? Rob & I are planning to do it (although we haven't registered for it yet).

Debra - Happy (belated) Birthday!:bday: It seems like only yesterday that so many of us were getting ready to turn 40. Where has the time gone? Congrats on your new niece too. How have the work outs been going? I've gotten better this week.

Richard - Congrats on your amazing PR! :cool1:

Jen B - Congrats on the weight loss. 20 lbs since marathon weekend is AMAZING! :cool1: Do you have any words of wisdom to help those of us who might have put on a few pounds since that weekend?

Jen - Nice job on the 5 miles. :thumbsup2

Jeanne - I can't even imagine how busy you must be with the 2 weddings. It's great that you're getting your workouts in. I'm sure you'll look great for the weddings. :goodvibes

Mel - It's nice that you and your DD bike together. It must be fun to share that. My DD is only 10, but she has no interest in any physical activity except dancing (unless you can count walking around the house while talking on the phone as exercise ).

Corinna - Great pics. Thanks for sharing. You are quite talented. :thumbsup2

Jackie - Congrats on signing up for the Marine Corps Marathon. You'll do great! :cool1:

Christine - You're doing a 100 mile event? Did I read that right? All I can say is...:worship:

I'm so glad to finally have some time to catch up a bit with my cousins. I'm seeing lots of new names, so I know there are cousins I have yet to "meet", but I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone.

Things have been very busy here, but the good news is that our room addition is almost done (although we just found out that we need a new roof and I really want to redo the kitchen), so life is getting back to normal. I've been better about running too. I got out there twice this week and have 7 miles planned for tomorrow.

Have a great weekend!

We're off to WDW for an overnighter tomorrow. DD17s band is opening the Spectromagic parade!

How cool! DD19's old high school band is at WDW now - they're performing at HS tomorrow and will be at an awards ceremony there tomorrow night. Personally, I think the parade would be a lot more fun! :cool1:

Maria - Can't wait to hear how Heat Wave is. Have looked at it, but couldn't decide if it would be worth the time. Now I can find out!

Richard - Feel free to laugh with me as much as you want. I'm still in shock. 2010 is the year I do only HALF marathons. Last time I checked, MCM is NOT a half. But we're doing it as a girls' weekend, so it should be a lot of fun no matter what the outcome!

Jackie

Jackie - Maybe it would help to think of the MCM as two back to back halfs. ;) I'd love to do the MCM and plan to try to do it in 2011 or 2012.

Mel - I loved Dead like me! Did you see the follow-up movie they mad that showed on Sci-Fi Channel a couple times.

Maria - Thanks for the vote of confidence on those races. If I had to pick one, I'd go with V.

Good morning all! Hope everyone has as beautiful of a weekend as we have here in Cincinnati.

Jackie: You're a crazy woman, you are! In the best possible ways! MCM will be a blast for you, it will. Of course MCM is a half. Just twice, back-to-back. For the challenge. (Like what Richard said.)

Richard: So, if Jackie is a crazy woman, what does that make you?? (Yep, I just opened that for the peanut gallery to comment upon.) I'll go with amazingly dedicated and a little nuts. Or a dedicated nut and amazing.

Maria: I'm with Richard. If I have to choose, it's gonna be V. I need some more light sci-fi, with a sense of humor & some kick-a$$ lines. Flashforward has the evil hobbit, who I like, but is in danger of taking itself too seriously. And it's all about relationships, so unless Caprica is going to tone down the melodrama, I want some action sci fi in my roster. (I still lament the cancellation of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.) I've not seen Merlin, and will have to check it out....

How was Heat Wave?

Mel: Congrats to your DD on opening up the Spectro parade. That's got to be fabulous. Any pics? I just added Leverage to my Netflix queue! Thanks!

Julie: I'm on a mini-streak of WOs, but still way too sore for as hard as I (hardly) worked out. I guess that's the price of being over 40--I can't slack off and bounce back like I used to. Just incentive to work out regularly, especially if I want to keep any cougar cred. I do so like to think the boys at the gym miss me, all evidence to the contrary.

Your new addition is much needed and looks great, I'm sure, and will go nicely with the new roof. I hope the running – WTG with your weekly and LR runs – keeps you from adding up those bills in your head.

AFM: I'm on a mini-WO streak, not hitting the miles you all are, but doing quality runs. It's a start. Did taxes this weekend, and things weren't as bad as we feared but also not what we hoped. Anyway, it's over with and the end of the semester is in sight. That means we can, hopefully, make some solid summer plans. It's been a tough time for DOOD this time around, lots of political potholes have not been avoided, and it's been a bumpy ride.

On the up side, I'm seeing a bit of time for some leisure reading open up. It's been way too long, and I'm like a starving woman. Wait. That could be my diet. Anyway, I'm adding to my list, so Maria – let me know about Heat Wave. I'm looking for something really light, bedtime or elliptical reading.

Richard: So, if Jackie is a crazy woman, what does that make you?? (Yep, I just opened that for the peanut gallery to comment upon.) I'll go with amazingly dedicated and a little nuts. Or a dedicated nut and amazing.

Debra-having (mostly) raised two girls (who are now 21 and 19), I have been called crazy many times--and undoubtably thought of as crazy far more often than that--and have come to relish the term from any loved one (which includes you and the rest of my cousins) as I would rather be a bit crazy than ordinary. So, thanks for the love :rotfl2::rotfl2: .
Ditto on the melodrama comments regarding Caprica.
Sorry for the political issues for DOO at work, I know how it is to hate intra-office politics while just wanting to do my best at work.

Christine-We had some early unexpectedrain during my bike ride yesterday, but other than that it was simply beautiful here, now if someone can just tell the Astros that baseball season has started.

Jackie-Enjoy your MCM girls weekend, it sounds like you'll be having fun. I'll look forward to your report as it is a future marathon for me.

I'm coming off of what was my last big training weekend for a while. Yesterday was a 43.5 miles bike/2.5 mile run brick workout. Then today was a 9.3 mile tempo run that was closer to race pace than tempo pace. I won't be blowing anyone's doors off on my half Ironman in 2 weeks, but I am ready for it.

Good Evening, Cousins!

Lots to comment on, not lots of time, so forgive me if I'm not eloquent...

Richard -- I echo your annoyance with Caprica. I was hoping for something a bit lighter, or at least with something that seemed like movement-- I watched the entire season, but I make no promises for #2, assuming there's going to be one. Frankly, I wouldn't be shocked not to see another one...:rolleyes1You do indeed sound ready for your Ironman!

Debra -- If you're looking for something light, check out Merlin. John Hurt is the voice of the Dragon. Need I say more? :rotfl: There are definitely some liberties with the traditional legend, but I'm embracing them. Makes for a longer series! ;) And how can you go wrong with Anthony Head as Uther Pendragon?! :lovestruc

Christine -- We also had a gorgeous weekend. So lovely Dennis decided the old grill was not going to make it another season after all (the rust should have been his first clue), and we picked up a new one yesterday. First cheeseburgers off the new grill tonight, and it's officially a hit! :thumbsup2

Julie -- Dennis is registered for the Race to Remember, and also plans to do the innaugural Boston 13.1. I'm looking for a nice friendly 5K...:goodvibes Congrats on the new addition. While we were getting the grill we picked up paint for my entry hall and the interior door that separates the foyer. That was supposed to be a winter project for Dennis. I've learned if I don't make sure the paint is bought in my selected colors, it's probably never going to happen...:rotfl2:

Jackie, Debra, Mel and other fans of Rick Castle -- If you enjoy Castle, you will like HeatWave. The characters are extremely recognizable in the book, with the same fun banter. I don't want to spoil it, but it is indeed a murder mystery and follows the same plot lines as the show, particularly for Season 1. It's also a light read, less than 200 pages and not a big time commitment.

I did 6M of incline walking this AM, and my knees are not happy. I'm not sure if tomorrow's 6 are going to happen, I should be going to bed right now...

Maria :upsidedow

Crawling out from the depths of the theater....yes, I survived and the opening weekend went pretty darned well. There were very few scene shifting mistakes, and no major mistakes from us. The audiences seemed to enjoy the show.

And my DS survived his scouting skills weekend - I haven't gotten to go on one of these boy scout camping trips YET - maybe it will work out next time. :confused3

I have managed somehow not to lose ALL of my conditioning over the past month or so, thank goodness. I went out for a run tonight after the matinee and book club meeting  and got a solid 7.5 miles before the sun went down. What a gorgeous evening for a run. I have the Challege Obesity 5K on Saturday morning - hoping to break 27, but it will depend on a lot of factors coming together, of course.

I'm also cramming in some make-up TRX classes. They are relatively short workouts, but I tell you, I am feeling some soreness from Saturday's workout, which is a little unusual now! It's good, though.

Richard - glad to hear you are ready for your half-ironman. It sounds like a long day to me any way you look at it!

Debra - Glad you are back and getting some workouts stacked up. It's always tough when life throws curveball after curveball, but you've jumped back in and that takes perseverance!

:lovestruc

Ooooh - Anthony Stewart Head as Pendragon???? Of Buffy and Rocky Horror fame? Swoon.

Ooooh - Anthony Stewart Head as Pendragon???? Of Buffy and Rocky Horror fame? Swoon.

Yes! It's definitely him. I'm not sure why he dropped the "Stewart", but he's in the credits as "Anthony Head". My ds recognized him from Dr. Who, which was another reminder that time is passing...

Before I forget -- Saturday is the day for the new Dr. Who premiere on BBC America! Be there or you might as well live in a pineapple under the sea!

Maria :upsidedow

Ooooh - Anthony Stewart Head as Pendragon???? Of Buffy and Rocky Horror fame? Swoon.

I'm there. I usually don't follow you guys with your sci-fi series, but if he's in it, I'm watching!

Maria - Just added Heat Wave to my request list at the library. I'm #9, so based on recent history, I should have it in a week or two. (That means it will appear at the same time as the new Lisa Scottoline and the biography I requested yesterday. Always works out that way!)

Corinna - I sympathize with the soreness. I'd been halfheartedly doing weights over the past few weeks, but Beth has started a new BL challenge on the Lean Meaners thread, and I renewed my efforts Friday night. I rolled over Sunday morning and felt a whole new level of sore. I also hadn't run 10 miles in a couple of weeks, and did that on Saturday, so I literally limped into the choir room at church Sunday morning. I'm pretty sure they were laughing.

Richard
- Congratulations on being ready for your event. And an even bigger congrats that it's a half Ironman! Makes me feel much better about signing up for a marathon. After all, it's JUST 26.2 miles of running! Or only 13.1 twice. And heck, I do that on a regular basis, right?

Julie - I'm envious of your new addition. We keep dreaming, but now is not the time. I did tackle some serious spring cleaning yesterday and almost got myself into a major remodeling project, but stopped just short of a no-turning-back point! Good job getting back to the running.

Christine - It's safe to say our weekend had to be just as beautiful!

We spent most of the run Saturday bouncing around MCM plans. There are 3 of us signed up; a 4th didn't think she wanted to but now feels left out so she's on the fence! Now I'm trying to decide if I'm going to let Indy be the end of my racing season until then, or if I want to sneak in another half before then. Decisions, decisions.

This week's goal - one more session with the sports massage therapist, and the rest of the week's running will be devoted to the 5K on the 24th, which means non-stop runs of 4-5 miles, we hope. The calves need to cooperate, but that's what the massage therapist is for! Then DD is planning to come home this weekend and attempt 10 miles with our group on Saturday - cross your fingers, since her 6 miler didn't go so well. She finished, but it wasn't pretty!

Jackie
