Team 'Ohana--No One Left Behind: The Continuing Adventures

Hi all - I haven't been posting much because my training has been really lacking. I'm having a hard time getting consistent runs in. Every time I run - even short distances - something starts to hurt. One day it's a foot, the next it's a hip, the next it's a knee. I'm going to suck it up and buy the new shoes. Hopefully that helps. At least I haven't completely fallen off the fitness wagon. I'm still getting in 5 or 6 light to moderate workouts each week - walking, biking, strength training, Wii Fit. I really want to get back to running and race training, though.

Corinna - I'm trying hard not to be jealous of your "covert mission" :goodvibes Maybe after I am done with tuition payments, I'll be able to make a few of those for myself.

Nicole - It's tough to work your way through injury. Keep up with what you can without re-injuring yourself and you'll eventually get through it.

Jackie - Congrats on the impulse race and subsequent PR!

Christine - "Event envy" ? I've been known to get that, too. Of course, I register for far too many events which keeps it at bay.

Being 4 weeks out from my 70.3 I am trying to peak my training while I can before having to cut back and taper in a few weeks. At this point I'm starting to feel like the race may be easier than the training. Plus, I also have the Muddy Trails 10K coming up next Saturday, which I want to PR without messing up my 70.3 training. I'll also have a busy work week this week, but with major items to be completed that are doable--although I should have been doing some of them over this weekend.

Hello Cousins,

I'm slinking back in to say hi. Things have been really busy since we've decided to add a couple of rooms onto our house, so I haven't had much time for reading or posting.

I've also been really bad about running. I've only been running once or twice a week. We've had lots of rain lately, which makes it even harder to get motivated to go out for a run. I've really got to get my act together since I'm running a half at the end of May. If anyone has any words of wisdom on how to get out of a slump, I'm all ears. :listen:

Ok, if I had my dream cast, it would include Adam Rodriguez as Ranger, Alex O'Laughlin as Morelli, and Monique as Lula.

Wow, Maria, I think you've nailed it! Those actors would be perfect! :thumbsup2

Hello to Debra, Maria, Corinna, Richard, Mel, Jeanne, Jackie, Jen and the rest of the family. I'll try to get back soon to catch up with everyone and also to get to know the new cousins. :goodvibes

Jeez! I had to go to the basement to find this thread!!! Hope everyone has been out enjoying some nice spring weather.

Richard You are one of the ones I envy!! I am not even sure when I can get something on the calendar. I think it would be crazy to attempt the Flying Pig the weekend after finishing the walk to Columbus.

Corinna Sneaking down to Disney for a few days does seem like great fun. And good for you getting the exercise done. :thumbsup2

Jackie How was your half? What are the qualifications for the 1/2 Fanatics?

Nicole Sounds like new shoes are a good idea. Hope you are back out there soon.

Maria Are you saying you got up at 4:30 AM?! Congrats for getting back into the swing of things.

Julie I hear you on the adding rooms thing...but it will be great when it is done!!

I have tried to stay on track with conditioning and cardio. The 104 mile walk to Columbus is coming up April 23-26. I hope to do all of it. I have been incline training and walking, but no speed work since we don't do any running on the way to Columbus.

Is anyone else doing, or have you done, the DLR Half in September? If so, what's the best place to stay. We're trying to do this on the cheap and are currently thinking about the Holiday Inn or the Quality Inn. Is one better than the other? Any place else we should consider? Thanks cousins!

And for your old dog fix for the day, here's a link to a video about the Old Grey Muzzle Tour. It's part of a research project into Rottweilers that live to be 13 or older. Athena turned 13 today, so she's now eligible for the study and the Tour. :cool1:

I'm here--April Fool's! :lmao:

Hello, cousins. What happened to the search party? What, was I disinherited? :lmao:

Corinna: I'm sorry to hear about your grandfather. I'm thinking of you and your family, and hope all is well

Sorry I've been MIA for so long. It was necessary, trust me. Too much going on, too much of it related to work, too much stressful other things. The good news, I've dumped a client & have learned a(n expensive) lesson. The bad news is, after the month – which included an indulgent, if working, spring break; runner's knee; tight deadlines; relationship problems (don't ask, don't tell); poor eating habits; and stress – I haven't consistently run & have gained back most of the weight I lost in February. *Sigh*

So I'm back here, and on WISH, regularly from here on out. That's my promise to myself. I'm recommitting to myself, and I hope you'll have me back. (I know, I know, I've said this before. :upsidedow)

I've quickly read the last 5 pages or so – and caught up with things, sort of. VERY brief shout-outs.

I enjoyed seeing all the cousins I did, however briefly, at the Princess. I can't believe it's been almost a month. I would have liked to hang out with you more, but there were some miscommunications between DOOD and me about scheduling. I did, however, briefly meet Kathy's daughter, Kathy of DISUnplugged, while I was there. She saw our WISH shirts & took a picture.

Mel: How's the new job & college politics treating you? I hope you're in the honeymoon phase there, where you can ask for anything & get it. New tech toys, always a favorite. And conference money for travel to places with races. Mel, you and your daughter rocked the princes--you looked like you were having so much fun. Lost. Pshhhhw. Not enough Hurley. Yay for your FL Beaches 1/2. You did great, especially given your leg cramp. You're a warrior athlete, you are.

Richard: WTG with your volunteering--glad to hear you got in for the Disney Give a Day program. Kathy is right, you are a trend setter. I hope you're into a fun, good training groove & your upcoming Muddy Trails is the kickstart for your 70.3. Send Amanda my most sincere congratulations on Magna Cum Laude – what a very big deal.

Corinna: I've been missing the mixer, and will make it a point to join in more regularly. At least for the drinking part. Congrats with your finish at the Princess. You looked so good, especially with the leopard print. WTG with your WW lifetime membership & show duties. And yay for moving up to the Purple Belt. I must go with you sometime on one of your covert missions.

JenB: WTG with your Princess PR. Old news, I know, but it still feels new to me. "Guilted into a 5K" with a slogan of Get Your Rear in Gear. Fitting, somehow.

Nicole: It was great to meet you at the 'Ohana meet. Somehow I missed you on the course, but it was overwhelming without the WISH green to guide me.... I'm jealous of your WISH/'Ohana Minneapolis meet. It's a great time to run there. Shoe opinions...I'm always one for getting another opinion/fitting, keeping the comfortable ones, and shopping around. I have problems with the right fit.

Kerry: Austria over Easter? How fabulous! Have a great time skiing & then onto spring weather and nice running weather.

Kathy: You looked fabulous on the course. I'll need to find that picture. I hope DD is feeling better. Tell Mike he's a lucky man – although he seems to know it – and congratulations on his race.

Jen: Give Laurel a snuggle for me. I don't think I ever got over my first shots! And congrats on getting back to running. Your doctor sounds really supportive, a very cool person to have on your side. I need to borrow Emma for my abs.

Jeanne: You rock with how busy you are, keeping up on things. And preparing to be a beautiful, rocking, athletic, glamorous mother of the bride (and groom). Congrats on Tobacco. How are you and John handling the new job?

Maria: Katee Sackoff as a female detective? Now there's a stretch--can't imagine her as hardboiled at all. Oh, and Caprica's finally getting some action & now it ends? I put a yoga DVD into my Netflix queue because of you. I know how happy it makes you. BIG congrats to your DS on Latin School - I had no idea what a big deal it is until I read your posts.

Katherine Heigl is NOT Stephanie Plum. But with the right Ranger or Morelli casting, who's gonna be looking at her anyway? And yeah, Monique as Lula.

Mandy: Welcome, welcome, welcome. I will be more present here! Congrats on all the good things you're doing for yourself. 14 pounds is wonderful!

Jackie: Again, WTG with your 1/2 successes. It's gotta be a great feeling crossing off some of your yearly goals so early in 2010. And to a proud member of the 'Ohana sub-group of Half Fantatics....just wonderful!

John: Thanks for the pooch photos. Adorable! Animals are so darned naturally photogenic, especially puppies. Harlow especially so. Taxes, bah. Still haven't done ours. That's the kind of 2010 it's been. I still haven't signed up for DLR yet, so I can't tell you where we might be. Or if it'll just be me going. I don't have a picture in my head of the Holiday Inn or Quality Inn. Where are they? What prices are you looking at? More than the HoJo?

Julie: Hi! I'm trying to commit to being here more often. You, too? :goodvibes Let's egg each other on with posting AND regular running.

Christine: WTG with your PT sessions. One of these days I'm going to invest in a PT. Right after I get in shape. :rotfl2:

HI to anyone else I missed.

Today, I'm headed out for my first run in FOREVER. I'm practically starting over again from ground zero, I'm afraid. Better than DNS, though, right?

I'm here--April Fool's! :lmao:

Hello, cousins. What happened to the search party? What, was I disinherited? :lmao:

Debra, That is just so like you to pop in on April Fool's Day of all days. I'm so sorry you had a rough month, March was a tough one on me as well...including right up to the minute I walked out of work yesterday. Fortunately, the big problems lingering from yesterday were fixed early on this morning and April is looking up!!!
 to you for your tough times, you know you have a load of friends here when you need a shoulder. As to the search party, I've been watching for you on Facebook, but you always seem to get away before I can find you...funny how that happens;)

John - Such a cutie at 13, and Athena is such an appropriate name for a Rottie.

Christine - It's such an honor to be envied, but I am so impressed with the 100+ mile walk you are taking on. You just keep up the hard work and you'll be fine.

Julie - No slinking necessary, you are always welcome.

Earlier this week I was getting in my classic sci-fi fix by watching SyFy [I don't really care for it that way] channel showing the classic "V" episodes.

...and just in case I don't get back here before then, I hope everyone has a safe and happy Easter weekend.

Good Morning, Cousins!

I don't know where to begin. It's been a rough week with me ill 2 days, things going crazy and my house turning into a huge mess -- but I have kept up with my workouts, ate ok, hopefully I'm on the mend.

Richard -- You can't go wrong with classic "V"! What do you think of the new version? I was really happy with the episode Tuesday night. I'm really glad things are finally moving forward a bit. SGU premieres tonight -- are you ready? I'm hoping this season moves better and is a bit lighter, with fewer "character studies". ;)

Debra -- Again, I can't think of any better advice for you than Beth posted on the Leanies. I really hope you are able to feel better and move forward, we're here to keep you moving in the right direction. How was that first run?

John -- Happy Belated Birthday to Athena! :goodvibes

Christine -- When I work out before work, I get up at 4:30ish. My goal is to be on the TM by 5, and I have to put my contacts in, feed Worf, and wake up a little first. I really like it, when I manage to do it. :thumbsup2

Julie -- How's it goin'? Are you training for the Run to Remember? :)

:wave2: JenB, Jen, Mel, Nicole, Kerry, Kathy, Jeanne, Mandy, Jackie, Corinna

Happy Easter to everyone who celebrates, Happy Spring to Everyone!

Maria :upsidedow

Debra: Great to see you back again. Sorry you have been having a rough time, I hope Spring brings some new positive changes to your life.

Maria: I'm eager to watch the newest V episode-- it is waiting on my DVR, I'll let you know what I think. Most of my really long runs for the marathon in Jan were spent watching the original series while on the TM.

John: I have been to the DL half the past 2 years. The first year we stayed at Candy Cane Inn and really liked it-- nice, clean rooms, small free breakfast at the hotel, easy walk to the parks. The pool was nothing impressive, but the place was nice. Last year we went all out and stayed at the Disneyland Hotel because they were running a buy 3 get 2 free deal which is on again this year BTW. The hotel was very nice and felt a bit more "Disney" if that makes sense. They had nice pools which was important to DD5. The walk to the parks was about the same as from Candy Cane Inn. My parents stayed at Best Western and said they really like it and that it was not too pricey-- also an easy walk. This year we are planning to stay at Howard Johnsons to save a few $$ but still have a nice pool (can you tell our priorities). Part of the reason I'm harping on the pool is that is was wicked hot last year and the only sane thing to do midday was go back to he room and relax or swim.

Corinna: Good luck with all of the show craziness.

Nicole: I understand your motivation issues. I find that unless I have a race to immediately look forward to it is hard to get the miles in.

Jeanne: We appreciate the occassional update from you about wedding planning, etc.

As for me: My big news of the week is that I am officially down 20 lbs since marathon weekend. The last few were a result of a horrible sore throat I had all week rendering me basically unable to eat or drink for 3 days. I feel much better now and have managed to keep the lbs off once I started eating again. I had to skip a few runs due to the illness but am trying to get back on track and managed 6 miles yesterday. We booked our plane tickets for DL and are working on finalizing our hotel. :woohoo:

Last weekend (fortunately before I got sick) DH and I had a date night and went into NYC to see a show. We saw Stuffed and Unstrung put on by Henson Alternative and it was perfect for us! It was an improv show with puppets. Imagine Avenue Q meets Whose Line is it Anyway and you have the basic idea. Brian Henson, son of Jim Henson was one of the performers as well as a guy who did a bunch of Bear in the Big Blue House characters. The show was really fun and we would love to get back to see another before the run ends at the end of May.

Thanks for the support, cousins. I've been running twice, and really have lost conditioning (along with the weight gain), but it's nice to come home. Why can't you be my real family instead of the dysfunctional one I have? :rotfl2:

Richard: I'm sorry to hear your March was rough as well. I've been dipping in and out of FB because some of the new freelance gigs I've picked up have been requiring online training, conference calls, and other time-sucking responsibilities. (Not to mention the face-to-face, blankety-blank contract work that just ended.) I hope to hang there a little more often. Maybe not so much with the games, though.

SyFy is just...wrong. Not even pretentious enough to make me smile.

Maria: Don't tell me about the new V yet. I'm saving it for tomorrow, if the Easter day cooperates with me! I do hope you're mended enough to enjoy your holiday.

JenB: I'm sad to hear that you're sick but WOO HOO on the 20 pounds down! :woohoo: That last few pounds don't tell the whole story of the work you've done. Congratulations, and I hope you feel better. I love the idea of Stuffed and Unstrung. It IS so you and Butch!

Jen reminds me that DL is running a special for rooms. 2 nights free, up to 40% off at the GC, less for the other hotels. Just a thought. Me, I like the HoJo because I'm cheap (and we're broke).

ASF: I should share some good news from March. I now have a 2nd niece, on DOOD's side of the family. The ILs are in love, and tons of pictures are in my email box and on DVDs that are shipped 2x a week. I would have posted the info on FB, but my BIL's ex is also my friend, and I'm not supposed to be her friend, & things are weird.... That's par for the course.

Anyway, now I have two nieces. Yay for me.

So I'm back here, and on WISH, regularly from here on out. That's my promise to myself. I'm recommitting to myself, and I hope you'll have me back. (I know, I know, I've said this before. :upsidedow)

Great to meet you too! Sorry that March was a rough month for you - hopefully April is much better.
Completely agree about the Stephanie Plum casting.
Not running is driving me a little nuts. I did all this training, a half marathon, and now I feel like you said - practically starting over. Hopefully it's not quite ground zero for both of us as we get back into training.

As for me: My big news of the week is that I am officially down 20 lbs since marathon weekend. Congrats on your weight loss! It's a bummer to be sick, but if you can lose a few pounds and keep them off, it's a nice consolation prize. When I had swine flu in November I lost an incredible 4 pounds - I figured there was no way I could keep them off. But I did!
I am so jealous that you got to see that Henson show. I will try to get my boss to take me when we're in NYC for work in May. We work in entertainment, so it's research, right? :upsidedow

As for me, I've reached my goal weight. Well, actually, after being stuck losing a tenth or two at a time for more than a month, I overshot my goal by a pound. In theory lower is great, but maintaining a pound less than I'd planned on may prove difficult. I'm going to try though.

The nice weather is calling me, but my allergies are completely doing me in. No amount of Claritin is working. I spend most of the winter excited for it to be nice enough to run outside, and I may be stuck on the TM again.

In exciting news, we finally dove in and bought the fancy jogging stroller. We got the BOB Revolution. I wasn't going to spend the $389, but we got a great deal. I completely love REI. We're members, so this is the time of year we get our dividend from last year's purchases plus a 20% off coupon on any one full price item. So 20% off, then put our $65 dividend toward it...came to about $265 including tax.

This weekend's to do list: taxes, new running sneakers, order princess weekend photos, and sign DD up for some type of physical activity (deciding between toddler swim, gymnastics or both)

Nicole - Good for you for keeping off those extra pounds, regardless of how you lost them.

Debra - My April's looking better than March was, I am hoping you are seeing the same where you are.

JenB - That's some awesome weight loss since the marathon. I'm sorry some of it had to be due to illness, though. I hope it still works for you though.

Maria - I was generally happy with SG:U, and also wish they'd get away form the "character studies", but so far I am not seeing it--but I did like the first new episode.

I had a great run for my 10K yesterday evening. Depsite warmer weather and an allergy flare-up, I had a great run and a good time. I did the 10K in 1:08:25, which was a PR by 8:20. My biggest problem was having to keep slowing myself down over the first few miles until I settled down after 3 miles or so. The race did have some issues when the top 3 leaders were apparently sent the wrong way on the course on one point. After a post race conference the first men's overall and first men's master places were given to 2 of these runners (I expect the 3rd got first in his division), when the first finishing overall and master's men agreed those runners likely would have won if they did not go off course. I avoided this controversy by finishing 29th in my age group.:rotfl:

LOL :rotfl: Congrats on your PR!

Richard - Congratulations (again) on your PR! 8 minutes is a huge accomplishment! And what a smart thing to avoid the controversy among the top 3 finishers... :lmao:

Nicole - Isn't that REI dividend wonderful? DH had his eye on a new pair of running shorts, and I kept telling him to be patient. They were over half off after the dividend and the coupon (and we didn't buy a whole lot last year!)

JenB - Congratulations on the weight loss. Glad you're feeling better now and back to eating! I remember the days of the pool being the priority - my one and only trip to Universal when DD was 8 was nothing short of a nightmare, made worse by the constant question "Can we go back to the hotel and swim?"

Christine - There are different levels for entry to the Half Fanatics. I now meet the criteria for having done 2 half marathons within a 16 day time frame (since I did 2 within 6 days). I just have to get my info together and send them the registration $. Here's a link to their site: http://www.halffanatics.com/criteria.html

John - Happy belated birthday to Athena! We met the coolest chow/shepherd mix on Friday who was 16. DD wouldn't let me stay and play with her, since she saw me tearing up when I started thinking about our chow mix that we put down a year ago. She knows me way too well!

Debra - Welcome back. I'm so sorry to hear about all the problems, both on the relationship front and on the work front. And that they've then caused problems on the fitness front and the weight loss front. But it's a new month, and your old family is still here. And chunk #1 is still here, at least on my part, so we can tackle him together, again! And as for being broke, can we move in together to save money?

After back to back halfs, I'm slowing down. Partly to give my body a break, and partly because my body is demanding it. The calf that was giving me problems before Tobacco Road has reared its ugly head, and its partner has joined him. I ran Tuesday night with slight pain, but Thursday night was pure torture. After 5 minutes I came to a dead stop on the verge of tears, and DH suggested we go back to the car. I stubbornly refused to stop, so we resorted to R1/W1 for the remainder of the 3+ miles. Saturday I was able to do 6 miles without pain, so I have no idea what's really going on. I have an appointment with my massage therapist on Wednesday, so I'm hoping she can shed some light on it.

DD has been home for the weekend, so it's mostly been a few days of lazy family time. Well, that and basketball... since MY team is playing for the title tomorrow night (along with my boss's alma mater, which should make for a really fun day at work tomorrow!)

Jackie

Happy Easter Cousins!!! I had hoped to do a 10K Bunny Hop today, but was too much of a slug to do much of anything. Stayed up way too late Friday and Saturday--past 2 AM each night (church stuff with some teen drama thrown in ) followed by early rising both Saturday and Sunday--so, I figured rest was in order today. I did my strength and conditioning routine yesterday, so at least that is something. I have had some aches and pains in my legs, so I have been telling myself that rest and repair is important as I prepare for my 100 mile event later this month.

Debra sorry to hear about your difficulties. Hopefully this month will be better for you and that getting back into your exercise routine will help put things in perspective for you.

Nicole congrats on the stroller--now, get those shoes, girl!! We are also trying to get around to doing our taxes...

Richard that is crazy about the leaders being sent off in the wrong direction!! Good thinking staying out of that!! Congrats on finishing another event With a PR :thumbsup2

Jackie Good idea on giving your body a rest. Being a fanatic is one thing--but you don't want to be crazy!!

JenB good job with the weight loss! 20 pounds is a lot in such a short amount of time

Happy Monday everyone! Hope you had a good weekend. My mother-in-law in here this week, so I'm just popping in for a quick moment to say hello, congratulate everyone on their new PRs, weight loss, advice on Dl hotels, etc., and wish everyone better luck with their recent difficulties. Sorry I can't stay longer or shout out to each one of you, but family peace needs to be maintained. LOL

Actually, she's nowhere near the stereotypical monster-in-law, but we sure are busy keeping her entertained.:)

Hey everyone. Sorry I have been gone. The girls were on Spring Break last week and finally went back to school today. It seemed like an eternity!! Now I am working on getting fussy Laurel back into a schedule. She was used to having her sisters hold and play with her and now wants me to hold her all the time (well this morning she does!).

I managed 5 miles last Monday and was so proud of myself I let out a little squeal when I got off the TM. I think the TM will be my friend for training since its hard to get outside with the girls... and the days I have the chance to get outside it is either cold or rainy! Now I need to lose the rest of this weight!

Debra - Welcome back. I hate to say I didn't notice you were gone because I have been gone a lot also. We can renew our memberships here together!!

Richard - WAY TO GO on your PR. I can't wait to have a PR again. It's been so long for me! Maybe I need to track down some animal print tights to help me out!

JenB - WOOT WOOT on the weight loss. I meant to say the pics you have been posting on FB look fabulous! CONGRATS to you!!!

Maria - Hope you are feeling better.

OK... have to make this quick. Laurel isn't giving me a break today!

Sorry Cousins! Life has definitely gotten in the way, and I have NOT been exercising, nor checking in with you. :guilty: Please know I think of you all often, and keep up with some of you on FB. BUT.............................I really popped in to say.........................

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEBRA!!!!!
