Cast: me (30), DH (30) and DD (4)
We planned to go to Sea World this day. I hope no one minds me posting this here.
We got up, got ready and called the front desk to make arrangements for our luggage to be transferred over to CBR. We gathered the things we would need for the day and made the trek out to the van. We were sad to be leaving the CR, but vowed to stay there again next time.
For now, it was time be nice to our budget and move on.
We drove to a convenience store and bought milk and OJ. Drove to Sea World, parked and at a quick breakfast in the van with our cereal we brought from home. Then, we entered the park right around opening time (9am). First thing, we saw Shamu was out greeting people. DD just loves Shamu and was excited to see that he would sign an autograph, too, so we got out the autograph book and got in line. Only a few people were in front of us. Shamu was so cute. DD gave him a big hug and it was on our way to explore the park.
We walked around and saw the flamingos, turtles (love them) and sting rays next. We all really like sting rays, so we enjoyed that quite a bit. I got to pet two- very neat. One big one swam right up to me and nudged my hand (no doubt thinking I had some food for him). DD wanted to touch them, too, but was timid to put her hand far enough into the water. Next we headed for the dolphin exhibit and got to see several dolphins up close. They would swim right by and stick their heads up as if to say hello. None of us were fast enough to touch one, though.
We headed for the Key West Dolphin Fest show next, which was cute. I got some great pictures of the dolphins jumping over the high rope and limboing under it. A sea lion show was starting soon after the dolphins finished, so we headed that way. This show was cute, as well, although there were some glitches (some props not working as they should, a few forgotten or flubbed lines). The sea lions were adorable, though. It was getting close to lunch time and we wanted to check on the seating availability for Sharks Underwater Grill, so we headed there. We went through the Shark Encounter exhibit first, which was great. Loved the tunnel that you ride through with the sharks swimming around you. I should have tried to get a picture.
There was plenty of seating at Sharks Grill, so we had lunch next. This was a highlight of the trip. A great splurge for us. We were seated at a great booth/table facing the tanks. The restaurant itself is very nice, with a relaxed, classy atmopsthere, great service, great presentation of the food, etc. I had a pizza appetizer dish (I cant remember the name, but it was made with 5 different cheeses. Yummy, even though I didnt care for the taste of one of the cheeses.) DH had filet mignon, which he said was excellent. DD ordered the chicken strips kids platter. She ate those fairly well. Her meal came with corn on the cob, which she likes but only took a small bite of, and a slice of watermelon, which she nibbled but I was glad to finish off.
She also got fries with her meal, but as we know, those were left on the plate. Overall we were very happy with our lunch here. It was great to watch the different sharks swimming around. I particularly like the saw-nose sharks. They kept swimming by right up against one of the windows near us and tilting on their side, so you had a great view of them- very cool. They gave
DD a cute sharks mouth paper hand puppet, which our server very nicely spent a few minutes folding for her. She loved it and was eating us with her shark all day.
After lunch, we backtracked a little to the sea lion exhibit. The sea lions were so cute; in a show off mood. One posed for us while sunbathing, others stuck their heads out of the water and seemed to smile at us. I got some neat pictures. We then saw the manatees, which we all have a soft spot for. DD just loved the babies and asked if they were going to put on a show for us.
We visited the dolphin nursery next, where she asked the same thing. She just loves babies in general. We went through the coral reef building next (which I thought could have been better, but still had some neat things) and then went to see the Clydesdale horses. By this point, we were ready for a break, so we went into the Busch hospitality center. Got a soda and a big chocolate chip cookie and just sat and rested for a while. (It was quite hot and humid on this day.) While we were there, it started raining, so we extended our rest for a while. It cleared up quickly and we were off again.
The next stop was Shamus Happy Harbor. Some of the areas were closed, but DD had lots of fun jumping in the moonbounce and playing in the water tunnels. We also played a carnival game and won her a big stuffed Shamu. She was delighted with him and feel asleep that night holding him.
Then it was time for the Pets Ahoy show, which was very cute. DD especially enjoyed seeing the cats, since we were the new owners of our own adorable kitten at that time.
Odyssea show was next, which was just great. The acrobats were amazing and the show was visually beautiful. We went to the Wild Artic exhibit then. DD was too short to do the helicopter simulator (luckily we dont think she realized this), so we went through the by foot line and waited about 5 minutes to get in. We saw the pre-movie and walked through the exhibit. DD just loved the polar bear and spent some time watching him and/or looking for him (as he kept moving around). By this time, it was time to head over to Shamu Stadium for the Shamu Rocks America show at 6:45. This show was great, fun to watch. DD thought it was so neat that Shamu was putting on a show for us and made sure to take her Shamu along.
He even danced during part of the show. After the show, we hit the gift shop and headed out around 7:30 pm.
We stopped at a Wendys for supper, where a momentus thing happened. DD actually ate some of her fries. She has been known to sample the fries at Wendys sometimes. Im not sure why they are the only ones that meet her approval, but
From there, we drove to CBR and checked in. We were in Trinidad South, room 3549. We liked our room, though the tub & toilet section was quite small and cramped. We had a water view room, but didnt take much advantage of this since we were quite exposed with the curtains open (a lot different from being on the 10th floor!). DD was in bed around 9:30pm, ready for the next day of fun, back in the Disney Magic.
