A rest day planned for today. We slept in till close to 9am (DD until 9:30). DH went down to get breakfast from the Food N Fun Center (cereal, lots of milk, OJ, pastry, etc.), we watched a little TV, then got ready for the day. Plan: shopping at DTD, swimming at CR, and watching the MK fireworks from our balcony.

We left for DTD around noon. Despite the late breakfast, we were ready for lunch by then and stopped at the DTD McDonald’s. I was disappointed that it didn’t have any kind of 'Disney theme', but lunch here was fine. McDonald's is McDonald's and DD was, of course, delighted to be eating there.
:D

After lunch, it was off for the Lego store. We browsed through the store (so many cool sets!) and bought DD a small cylinder set and one of the small “fill your own brick” cups of Legos. She had great fun picking out pieces to fill the brick. Outside, it was really neat to see all the sculptures made from Legos. I loved the dinosaurs and the big serpent/dragon in the water. DD enjoyed playing on the play equipment and, especially, building things at the Lego tables (Ok, Daddy and Mommy did, too :D ). DD and I made a cute plane. Next we hit Once Upon a Toy, which I couldn’t wait to get to. It was less huge and ‘magical’ than I had pictured, but still pretty neat. We loved all the props outside. We bought a few things (some die cast vehicles, a ‘tourist’ Mickey beanie, huge Pooh lollipop for DD) and had fun looking around. Then, I sent DH outside with the little one so I could do some Christmas shopping for her. She played outside in the fountains while I shopped. I didn’t end up finding what I really wanted so I just got a couple of small things. I stuffed a box full of Potato Head parts (fun!) and bought her two packs of the “micro” figurines.

DD was still having fun getting wet, so I then went over to Disney at Home and did some more Christmas shopping (also bought a Mickey ice cube tray and pencil holder for us :D ). By this time, we were pretty much ready to head back to the hotel.

We drove around exploring Disney property for a little while and headed back to the Contemporary. We gathered up our laundry and went over to a laundry room in one of the wing buildings to get it started. We spent 1 ½ hours or so swimming at the pool in between dealing with the laundry. We continued to like the pool area- the water slide, shooting fountains, and fountains in the middle. It rained a little while we were out, but nothing heavy. Once we were tired out, we headed back to the Food N Fun Center to pick up some food for dinner (we really could have been more adventurous…). I had a cup of cream of chicken soup and a hot dog (don’t really like hot dogs, but I wasn’t in the mood for chicken fingers or a burger; the hot dog was ok, but my bun was hard). DD had a PBJ, half a banana, some grapes from the fruit cup that came with her meal, and she snagged a bag of mini Chips Ahoy from our snack stash. :D DH had a burger and fries. Just as we were getting back to our room, it started downpouring. It rained heavily from about 7 to 7:30pm. We are starting to get worried that it would affect the fireworks that night, but it cleared up just in time.

We watched the 8pm MK fireworks from our room balcony—magical! Definitely worth staying at the Contemporary just for that. DD just loves fireworks and she was so excited. A great ending to our day and something very special for our last night at the Contemporary. We are moving to the Carribean Beach Resort tomorrow.

Great report ~ Thanx for sharing.

I am intrigued by the "fill your own brick" legos. Did they have special pieces like wheels and trees or was it just regular bricks?
How much did it cost?

Hi kalamazoo!

Yes, they did have special pieces like tires and trees (DD chose lots of trees-LOL). Also some of the flat 'base' pieces. I am blanking right now on the cost, but I think it was in the neighborhood of $10- $12. They had two sizes to choose from and we chose the smaller. I think the larger one was $5 more.

Have you used your Mickey ice cube tray yet? We got one last year on our trip and I can't seem to get the cubes out easily. By the time I get them out, they are all busted. How is yours working? Thanks, Dawn

Hi Dawn! I have only used our Mickey ice tray a couple of times. I have had similar issues. About half of my 'Mickey cubes' end up broken by the time I get them out. The second time, I tried the 'run hot water over the tray' trick, which helped somewhat, but I still got some broken ones. :(
