Team Mickey - Biggest Loser "No Excuses" 2012 Challenge

Another miserable night with regard to sleep :headache:

Pamper Week, Tuesday, 2/28: The month is almost over. Think about all the positives you have had this month. If you think of any negatives just move them aside and return to the positives. I challenge you think of at least 10 of them!

Hi Team, well yesterday was pretty awful. A coworkers daughters go to Chardon High where the shooting occurred. They are safe but one of the victims was a family friend. Anyway I treadmilled 3.25 miles this morning and didn't gain any weight. The run helped clear my head too. Have a great day eveyone and thanks for listening. You guys are the best!
 Good job on the run, thats one of the best things about exercise it helps clear your head.

Good Job to all the Mickeys!!! And wow I can't believe it... last week was a good week for me I didn't really go to the gym but I worked out at home a lot. I was busy getting ready for my son's birthday party. Anyway I did stick to my eating plan and even though I haven't been participating on the boards as much as I used to I am still trying to keep up healthy habits.

Since the beginning of this challenge I have lost 10lbs. Which is amazing and motivational to me. I went to visit my Dr. two weeks ago and she cut my water pill for my pressure in half, she asked me to return in 4 months.

I've noticed that if I eat any junk food (chips, cookies, candy, soda, juice) I feel funny... everything taste extra salty or sweet.

I am hoping to lose at least 15lbs more before this vacation.

:wave2:

Now let's get to the good stuff. Who were our superstars of week 8?

QOTD: My computer! Between coming here for support, my recipes already stored in my computer and all the new recipes I have been finding I could not do this without my computer.

Got called last night and told that they person I subbed for would probably leave to go home next week and they would let me know. Then this morning they called and said she is probably leaving tomorrow. Unfortunately this means her family member is probably not doing well :( . So I will probably go in starting tomorrow and may be there for several weeks. I am hoping that they will actually let me do some of the things she is responsible for. While the idea of getting paid to sit there, do nothing, read a book, crochet and play on an ipod may seem exciting it makes me feel really useless and stupid. I would really rather stay busy with things to help the office. They are a great group of people and I really enjoy working with them.

Hopefully as long as I plan ahead this will actually help my healthy eating since I will have only what I pack for myself to eat. Not so sure about the GF thing but I am going to try to stick with it. Things would certainly be easier if I didn't have to worry making sure it is all GF. But we did GF with DD11 for a few months last year so I am pretty familiar with what is and what isn't okay and ideas of what to pack. I tried a bunch of recipes for things like breads and cookies with DD to keep it as "normal" as possible for her but for me I am not going to worry about it. Since I am mostly eating protein and veggies I am just going to stick with GF starches. The biggest problem will be breakfast since I can't have my Kashi oatmeal or South Beach muffins. I will probably have protein shakes/smoothies. I am not a morning person so I will need quick grab and go things anyway.

I probably need to get to the grocery store today and do a big shopping trip and get what I need and go ahead and actually plan my breakfast, snacks and lunches. Usually I only plan dinner but I will need to know what I am going to take with me. Fortunately there is a fridge and microwave and my time will be flexible, with no problems getting a little snack when I need to. This will be a huge adjustment for me and the family. We aren't used to me working and being gone all day more than one or two days at a time. It will be interesting to see how my girl's adjust. Since one is off to college in 3 years I really need to get as much work as I can to put towards that. Hopefully this can also lead to more secretarial subbing, which really is a lot easier for me than teaching since I am not on my feet as much.

I am sure glad I ordered those $5 pants!!!:rotfl: I may even break out a few dresses and skirts! I don't wear those much since I have to wear tennis shoes and I feel stupid. I have some "dressy" crocs that I can wear for a short time so I may be able to get away with those since I won't be on my feet much.

Okay, better go get some house cleaning and meal planning done. Everyone have a great On Plan day!

QOTD: My treadmill, my computer, and SPARKPEOPLE.

-----

I hope everyone has a great OP day! I woke up around 11am. I ate some breakfast and I've been checking all my online stuff. Plans for the day consist of working out, showering, and running to Wally World to look at a tv for in our exercise room. I also need to research more recumbent bikes. If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. Alan took some hamburger out and I'm going to ask my mom to make a meatloaf for dinner. Alan did all of our laundry these last few days. So later tonight I need to pack an overnight bag. We're going to be staying at OKW for tomorrow night so we can hang out at MK all night .

I also need to get some turkey bacon cooked up that I hadn't done when I did my batch cooking the other night.

Really having some fun PMS-- food cravings, the irritation, I've actually been having to stop myself constantly from grinding my teeth the last few days. Haven't seen my friend much lately because of the schedule he's been having to do book keeping 2 days a week and that's a really early shift and he's hardly outside the office...Was sort of throwing tantrums all day yesterday until someone came to me (I am our store steward) with a complaint about him and of course all the irritation was over and I became Dumbo's mom.:darth:
Well-- maybe not quite that -- she is a constant problem with pretty much everyone. That he's finally lost all patience with her--says something as he is the most exceedingly patient person I have ever known. I just referred her to one of my friends at work who helps me with stuff like that (he knows about my problems)---we basically have the same approach with her, it's just I couldn't be objective at all in this case. She's got some mental issues...

Really cold and wet here. I feel really stuck in routine-- kind of groundhogs day--the repetition of the days--starting to get to me.
Thanks for the muscle vs fat thing--it makes sense. I know I have a lot of muscle but it sure would be nice to see the numbers go down on the scale again...There's a girl at work who weighs the same as me and we're about the same height and I was amazed she weighed what she does-- she looks really good, in great shape. Makes me realize how hard I can be on myself.
Really excited about roasting brussels sprouts tonight-- never done it. I have a recipe that calls for kosher salt but i don't have that-- I could use sea salt I think. :confused3

Hi all! I am just joining in now! :) Can someone help me out? Who do I pm my weight to? And should I send a starting weight now, or should I just wait until the next weigh in day? That is Friday, right? Thanks!

Hi all!

Hello TEAM MICKEY! ::MickeyMo

Seems like just yesterday we were Princesses, too! princess:

The C2C medal is a beautiful one, Buffy! I'm hoping to get one some day, too. There is a rumor that there may be a third DL race starting in 2013 so I'm keeping my fingers crossed as I am committed to the WDW Marathon W/E in 2013 with my BL Princesses. princess:

The should have named this season of Biggest Loser "No Whining" :sad2: I just watch the highlights on the internet now.

I will be hitting ONE-derland in March. After that my next goal will be 13 pounds down which will put me at the top of the "overweight" category. I should have no problem meeting both of those goals this challenge and with a lot of hard work my goal by the end of summer. :cool2:

Lisa, I love reading your posts!!

The Princess 2011 - OMG, I can't believe it was already a year ago. I can't wait to go back... Jen is already planning the Goofy for 2014 ---!! "Goofy", is right. "Completely out of her ever loving mind" might be a better name for that medal!!
I'd like to do a "girls weekend" for my next Disney race. But that might be a little ways off ///:rolleyes1

YAY for upcoming ONEderland!!! And that 60 lb clippie is so inspiring to the rest of us.

Biggest Loser - holy cow. Did the producers actually search for some of the meanest people they could find? I used to find the show so motivating and uplifting - now between the whining and nastiness, it has lost alot of its appeal.

Crawling back on the wagon. :rolleyes1 I've missed everyone a lot but have been so busy! The worst thing about this job is the complete lack of a normal schedule; I never have the same days off every week and I rarely ever have a set shift schedule! Next week I have five different shifts, ranging from 6 to 9.75 hours, from anytime between 8:45am-11pm. :scared1:

Gretchen, I'm a "late-returner" too. I really missed the motivation and support I get from reading all the posts on this board. Right now I am 13 lbs heavier than this time last year - my goal is to get beyond that number!!
..I was intrigued by the blog link in your signature so went to the link and shamelessly stalked through your blog posts. Wow - what a great experience! I don't know if this program was in existence when I was in college (oh, so long ago! :lmao:) but I definitely missed out on it if it was. I am looking forward to your next installment...
BTW, will your degree be from SUNY Geneseo? We're scheduled to visit there with my DS during April break. (heading to the Coast Guard Academy this weekend).

:wave2:

While there the head Administrative Asst came over and was  over how much weight I have lost. I was really surprised at how complementary she was. Definitely made me feel good  . She was asking me all about how I did it and what I was eating.

YAY!!!! What a great compliment!! :cool1:

WOOOHOOO to all the superstars this weeek! And to the rest of us, too!!! (in the words of Dory: "....just keep swimmin', just keep swimmin'....) But especially - BMC423 :woohoo::woohoo: Way to go!!!

It might not be early where you are but here it is 4:07 a.m. and I will be leaving shortly to go to the pool and do my last 9 laps for my first leg of the Krocman. :cool1: Thursday starts the big leg -- 112 miles in March. On top of my running training schedule, although for now I am still only cleared for the pool, and non-weightbearing activity except gentle walking up to 15 minutes at a time. My back tells me when I've pushed it. :teeth:

I do like watching those goal numbers (although I haven't set myself a goal for this challenge) -- Liz is almost at her goal and Jude is almost half way! :yay:

LOVE the idea of the Krocman! I am thinking about doing this on my own. Anyone else in for it??

...working my way to that goal!! My ultimate goal (think: bathing suit without a skirt!!) is actually a different number but I need to do this in increments that don't totally freak me out...:rotfl2:

As for books, oooh yeah. :) I always have a book going, and I set a goal of reading 50 a year. I just love reading. I read mostly fiction - I love disappearing into those other worlds - but I don't rule out nonfiction...recently, I've read 11/22/63 by Stephen King (hugely long but awesome), Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? by Mindy Kaling (very funny!), and I've found a couple of YA authors I like quite a bit - Gabrielle Zevin and John Green. I'm almost done with Gabrielle Zevin's Elsewhere now. That one read really fast - I started it last night and read it before and after Zumba!

Liz, I think I may be addicted to books. Love, love, love to read. But I can't read the Oprah-like "ultimately uplifting...maybe" books. Work can get heavy enough - I need to escape into books. I'm a big Vince Flynn fan and literally laughed out loud at Jennifer Weiner's "Good In Bed". A college friend, Kristan Higgins, writes romances and I try to support her, too! :goodvibes But no scary Stephen King - I had nightmares from reading IT when I was younger and just can't go through that again!! (that scary, scary clown!! :scared1:)

Hi Team, well yesterday was pretty awful. A coworkers daughters go to Chardon High where the shooting occurred. They are safe but one of the victims was a family friend. Needless to say, I went into stress eating mode and binged on whatever I could find in the house after work Also, I replied to a question on one of the other forums and apparently the person thought my idea wan't so good and then I felt stupid. I love these boards but I find the WISH board to be the most welcoming, sometimes I'm afraid to post a question on other sub boards because it turns into something huge. Anyway I treadmilled 3.25 miles this morning and didn't gain any weight. The run helped clear my head too. Have a great day eveyone and thanks for listening. You guys are the best!

I'm sorry you had a rough day. :grouphug:

TUESDAY QOTD -- What is ONE thing you could not live without for this challenge? It could be a food, it could be a workout video, a piece of equipment, whatever....just share what is the most important.

Mine is my Y membership. I am there 4x during the work week at 5AM (home by 6:15 to get everyone off to school!) and usually go to their satellite center located in our office complex at least 3 - 4 times a week at lunchtime. Then usually once or twice on the weekend.

For Lent, I decided on a few things:
1. exercising at least an hour every single day
2. stop being so darn judgmental (I don't "say" things but if there was a bubble over my head typing out some of the stuff that sometimes pops in there I might be in trouble...working on this!)
3. no more cookies!!! (grazing is a problem for me).

...brought work home tonight and need to get to it.
Have a great night everyone!!

(that scary, scary clown!! :scared1:)

I also got completely spooked reading IT and other King novels (granted, probably at too young an age!). But 11/22/63 is very different - it's not horror, but it's a fascinating history what-if with some supernatural time travel stuff and how going back to change things can have crazy consequences. It's definitely not horror, though, and I'd recommend it even to people who've been freaked out by King before! :)

I had a completely surprising WI at WW today - down 1.4 pounds! After book club and Oscar night this past weekend, I was shooting for a maintaining week! I guess my Jillian and Zumba workouts yesterday helped... :) :cool1:

Off to keep that rolling - time to see how fast I can go with Dolvett & Bob cheering me on. At least, that's what I tell myself...

Evening all,

Ashleigh seems to be feeling better for the most part. Staying home again as she had a fever this afternoon and is pretty weak. We are going to clean her room tomorrow and do some sewing. Maybe we will do some Wii tomorrow as well as the elliptical once or twice tomorrow. Gonna drink lots of water. If Ash's tummy feels better I will take her to get something special for lunch as we are getting snow tomorrow night and probably won't be able to get out.

Time to watch BL. If my throat didn't hurt so much I'd go get on the elliptical now.

Don't know if I will make it through the whole show. I'm exhausted!

TTFN :tigger:

Liz,
I'm heading down to Falls Church VA for a job interview next week (just saw that you are in northern VA). My SIL is in Oakton so hope to get a chance to visit with her, too. My fingers are crossed for this interview!!!:goodvibes

...maybe I will pick up that new Stephen King novel because I will have lots of time to kill at the airport after my interview...!!

Awesome, good luck on your interview!! I live in Centreville, and our church is in Oakton, so you'll be in my neck of the woods... Let us know how it goes!

I am up past my usual bedtime, but I had to check in here before I hit the sack.

Today was not really OP. I could have done better and I could have done worse. It is supposed to snow tomorrow afternoon and if this morning is any indicator of tomorrow morning, I will not be making it to the gym tomorrow. Maybe I will actually get out of bed when the alarm goes off-it's loud enough to wake the neighbors, but I sleep through it. :rolleyes1

I don't know why, but my cheeks are red. I could have eaten something, but I'm not sure what. It was probably cross-contamination. :headache: LTS: I've been using your suggestions and wiping down counters, etc. constantly. I'm separating GF food from non-GF food too. I'm really taking this seriously, but I guess I messed up at least a little today. :headache:

My to-do list for tomorrow includes drinking a gallon of water. I can tell I'm retaining water and I need to do something about it. I figure I'll be trapped inside all afternoon, so tomorrow is a good day for this. ;) I'm aiming for 2 12 min. WATP miles tomorrow. I may have to split them up, but they will get done. I usually peek at the scale on Wednesdays, but I think I will skip it tomorrow.

I found out today that I likely have t go to a formal event in early June. I have been debating do the 30 Day Shred in March and now I know I will be doing it. Jude and Lisah: Is that 112 miles of bicycling? If so, I am definitely in for the challenge! I really need to lose 10 pounds by March 11th and need all the motivation I can get. :cool1:

Have a great, OP day tomorrow everyone!

Well, I did it. I went back to Weight Watchers since Jenny Craig is just not feasible for a vegan. I had my first day today which did not go totally on plan (I figured after getting beaten up by a 5th grader I was due a little chocolate) and somebody brough cake to my ASL class because we were watching the Hammer. I got a bean burrito al fresco at Taco Bell because I saw on a website that was supposed to Vegan and halfway through it I realized there was ground beef in it. Argh!

Oh well, tomorrow is another day.

Thanks for reading the blog! The college program has been around for 30 years this year, so it's possible that it existed when you were in school. My degree will be from Geneseo; what is your son planning on majoring in? If I were still there I might have been your tour guide!

:thumbsup2 If you really do some reading on line it is amazing how easy it is to have cross contamination from even the littlest things. Yesterday I was going to go to the cafeteria and get a wrap sandwich without the tortilla (just the meat and veggies) but then I remembered that when they make them they put their gloves on, grab the tortilla then reach in with that gloved hand to get the meat and veggies. Even if I ask them to put on fresh gloves when they make mine, gloves that have touched the gluten containing wrap have been in the container with the other things and that is instant cross contamination. Some people are so sensitive they had to buy all new pots and pans to cook their GF items. Jut remembering to use the right spoon to stir the rice pasta and not forget and stir the regular pasta with it too.

Also, have you looked at your health and beauty products? I know I read that people with great sensitivity have to change their shampoo and I think make up in some cases. I didn't read up too much on that. I know that even things like licking an envelope can cause a reaction because there is gluten in the glue. This is another website I have found really full of helpful information about a lot of the basics and cross contamination http://www.gluten-free-diet-help.com/index.html

I have to say that I lasted less than 24 hours on my GF trial! Yep, gave up already. I know I promised myself that I would do this but having this sub job suddenly come up really threw a wrench into it. It sounds silly but I need more time to "prepare". I need to get to TJ and get some things and have to come up with some breakfast and snack options. So for at least the rest of this week I am just going to stick with my regular eating plan and hopefully try again next week. I just didn't have time to figure out what I will eat for the next few days if I have to eliminate my oatmeal and SB muffins. I have a few quinoa oatmeal type recipes to try so I will try that this weekend.

So many people think that being GF means that you just don't eat bread anymore, but it is so much more than that and gluten is in so many things it really can be difficult to avoid without constant vigilance.

Pamper Week, Wed., 2/29: Today is Leap Day. Do something active and fun, like leaping.

I'll be back in a few minutes. I need to post this on Team Donald first.
