TEAM DONALD--Biggest Loser 11 Spring Team Challenge

Thank you, thank you, thank you for all of the great advice about the Girl Scout cookies. I'm going to come back here and reread these suggestions and thoughts over the next month or two when I need some support to stay away from those very, very few boxes that we DO buy! You ladies are wonderful!

.....I have such a carb-loving sweet tooth and cr*p food like GS cookies are such a weakness. Portion control is my biggest failure, though, because we typically eat pretty healthy at home, but I just eat too darn much of it.
I'll keep working on it during this challenge!

Some of those veggie recipes look great! I'm excited to try the roasted brussel sprouts (we've never bought/fixed those before).
Our family likes veggies anyway, thankfully, but one way I've been adding extra veggies in is by pureeing (I use my coffee grinder) lightly steamed cauliflower and adding it to loads of stuff like pasta sauce, white chicken chili and regular chili, soups, etc. It is virtually tasteless (if you don't use too much) and so convenient when you buy the frozen florets.

Trader Joe's has some incredibly good fire-roasted peppers and onions in their frozen food section. I heat them in a frying pan with a tiny bit of olive oil and add them to tons of stuff. This morning, I had scrambled egg whites with a bit of Canadian bacon, swiss cheese, spinach, and probably a half of a cup of the peppers and onions...adds so much flavor without adding any salt! .....Now I'm getting hungry.....

Everyone's energy level here is so great! I've been inspired (and entertained)tonight by what you all have shared.

Thanks!

Happy Birthday Abby!:dance3::cool1::banana:

I had a busy but nice day. My newest niece, Laura was born this morning.. I took my DD's up to the hospital after work to see her. We ended up bringing Laura's sister, Emily home with us for dinner. Gave the parents some time without her, and at 20months-old, Emily was going crazy in the hospital with so much stuff around that she wasn't allowed to touch. Then it was off to drop my DD's off at Guides & Sparks meetings, and then back to the hospital to get some more new baby cuddles and give Emily back to her parents. Then pick up my girls, get them home to bed and then off to the grocery store where I picked up some more fruit and some veggies for my lunch.

I am a big fan of raw veggies for snacks. Today I got some mini-cucumbers which are delicious and don't even have to be cut up. And I got a bag of mini-sweet bell peppers, which can be grabbed and eaten like an apple. And I got a cauliflower, which I'll cut up tomorrow and put into ziploc bags ready to go for snacks.

Oh and to answer the QOTD. I don't like exercising. I really like kayaking, but can't do it often enough. I also like geocaching which is essentially hiking with technology in order to use billions of dollars of satellites to hunt for tupperware in the woods :)
I do like the WiiFit but I don't love it. I would like to try some new exercise classes, and I enjoyed the bellydance lessons I took last fall, so I might look into something like that.

Hi to everybody!

Question of the Day

What is your favorite exercise?

I like a lot of different stuff. Running, obviously. TRX class. Yoga. Bodyflow. Swimming. Biking along a lake on a beautiful day....

But I digress. I think my current favorite is actually Bodypump, too. This class I go to has a team of two instructors who just strike me the right way. There's a very kind but no-nonsense woman and also an enthusiastic, PRETTY man. There is something about being told first thing in the morning by a pretty man that "you all look amazing!!!" that works for me.

Good morning everyone.

It was nice to see all the different types of exercises people are involved with. I have not been kayaking for a couple of years. We have 3 kayaks in the back yard and live less than 2 miles to the ocean. I have never kayaked in the ocean but have in Sandy Hook bay and a river in the pine barrens which is in south jersey. My favorite memory is being on a stretch of the Winding River with very few people around. The only one ahead of me is my ds2 and he is just sitting in his kayak letting the river take him. It was just so peaceful.

Got my 20 minutes in this morning so get it in early so you don't forget it.

Question of the Day

What is the one thing that you have done this week that is helping you along this journey?

I have gotten back to workingout in the morning.

Have a happy and healthy day

Good Morning !

QOTD: What is the one thing that you have done this week that is helping you along this journey?

I would have to say that it is getting prepared the night before and getting up early in the morning.

This allows me to:
-Pack a healthy lunch
-Exercise before work
-Get out of the house on time and too work early

The alternative was:
-Rushing around in the morning
-Purchasing unhealthy, $$ lunch
-Not exercising
-Late to work, stressed = eating

I feel much more in control of my day. I'm not saying it's easy to get out of bed in the morning, but I'm trying to make a habit out of it.

Good morning all! :goodvibes

Thank you, donac, for being our coaching this week! :flower3: Coaching the first week is a big job! I will be your coach starting tomorrow.

Tomorrow please be sure to PM your weights to tigger813 and your HH points to cclovesdis. There is no WIN! reporting this week, unless you haven't sent in your starting measurements and decided that you want to do that challenge. Remember you can do all, part or none of these challenges but we hope that you try them all. :cool2:

And we want to give those TEAM MICKEY folks a run for their money this week!

I think I did a bad thing today. I didn't eat breakfast.

It takes awhile to figure out how all this works IRL (in real life!). You didn't resort to fast food so I'd say it was a success. The thing about breakfast is that your body stays in conservation mode until it gets some food so you don't burn as many calories until you get some calories. That is a hard concept to wrap your head around some days -- I have to eat more to lose more. :hippie:

Do you remember the Cosby Show episodes where Clare and someone else would start speaking in Spanish? He'd always say, "I'm just listening for my name..." :rotfl:

:lmao:

Man, I miss one day or so and the pages of posts double! I skimmed the posts but don't have the time (or attention span) to read every one of them. :sad2: But hopefully I'll be able to keep up now. Maybe. Kinda. Probably not. But I'll do what I can. Atleast I only missed one QotD!

It is hard to keep up but just jump in where we are. Also, we have a QOTD archive on page 1 of the thread so you can easily go back to see which questions you might have missed. Thank you to mikamah (Kathy) for maintaining our QOTD archive for us! :flower3:

>>1/5/11 QotD - What is your favorite exercise?<< I'd have to say walking theme parks but realistically I have to say Pilates.

I'd love to be able to walk around the theme parks for my exercise!

So much to catch up - I am going to try and read but want to post first in case I have so much to read that I never get back here! :rotfl2: I skimmed the posts last night but couldn't post - I was trying to finalize our resort plans for the Princess half Marathon - and then I found out today that SOG is offering incredible room rates for the exact period ($69 per night versus $149)! I am typing this with the phone cradled to my ear - I've been on hold for almost 40 minutes trying to speak with an agent (caveat: I have reservations at BOTH the Pop -free dining! - and SOG - humungous rooms but can't use the free dining program). I thought we were all set to go with the Pop but now...!!??? I wish they would answer my call in the line!!!

Did you get your rate? princess:

I recently borrowed some Zumba dvd's to see if I like them. Now to find some free time.

I've heard of Zumba videos being online somewhere -- hopefully someone will pipe up and say where. :goodvibes

Just popping in and like many others - have only been able to skim. Busy, busy day and night. Got my 30 minutes on the treadmill in. Like many other posters, I'm not a big fan of exercise, but know I need to do it. Favorite exercise is probably walking/hiking outside.

I think that is one of the most important things to do, to find something that you like and enjoy so it isn't work! :goodvibes

I have to keep reminding myself that I did do a lot in the last 10 years and I know that there are kids out there that I made a difference for. (DS14's class loved me, I was mom to all of them) but it hurts that the staff has been so cruel lately. I think our PTO will disband because all of the officers are stepping down and no one wants to take our place, we have literally 5 members besides the officers. Sadly the kids will pay the price because the staff will get what they want.
(and this is no way slamming teachers, they are underpaid and overworked, and 90% of my family is teachers. this particular group is just bitter I guess, can't really find a good word)

Ah shake it off. It will be ok. Whew, didn't mean to dump that on y'all.

, Buffy. I think we all have stories of PTA/PTO pain. I loved my time at DS' elementary school over the years but don't miss it a bit now that he is in middle school.

Favorite exercise? None really, I do much better if I have a buddy to go to the gym. Unfortunately, my DH and I keep saying that we want to get back to the gym but we get distracted by any little thing. When the weather is good we really like to take long walks with the dog. I like to ride my bike, but don't do that often enough either.

Maybe you can make it a date kind of thing? Go out for coffee afterward? We laugh because at our house a trip to the hardware store qualifies as a date! :lmao:

QOTD- My favorite exercise is dance. I have been dancing since I was 4 years old and I love it because it never feels like exercise to me.

Today was good. Breakfast was greek yogurt with a squirt of honey, blueberries and granola. I went for a quick walk after taking out the trash this morning. Lunch was a turkey sandwich on a whole wheat sandwich thin with pretzels and grapes. I went out to dinner with my mom tonight but we split two different appetizers, chicken lettuce wraps and fried zucchini. Every once in a while I like a little treat.

Sounds like a great OP (on plan) day! :thumbsup2

I did try Yoplait Fat Free Key Lime Yogurt today. Let me say that I don't like yogurt. Really, really dislike it. And yes I have tried Greek Yogurt that everyone says is so great and really really don't like it either. But this Key Lime Yogurt was DA BOMB! Could have used a bit more tart to it but it was GOOOOOD. I had to check the pkg again to be sure it really was fat free and not off the charts in calories.

That key lime Yoplait is good and if it was the fat free, it's all good! :goodvibes I'm happy to find someone else who isn't too keen on greek yogurt -- it's the texture or the lack of flavor, even if I spice it up, it's just yuck to me -- I thought I was the only one! :lmao:

Me too. I teach dance still but just to the little ones....so a good zumba class is a blast for me!

Hanging out with the little ones is a good calorie burner! ::yes::

Some of those veggie recipes look great! I'm excited to try the roasted brussel sprouts (we've never bought/fixed those before).

We have a Biggest Loser recipes thread so please consider cutting and pasting some of these recipes to the thread so we can find them again.

You and Maria are going to :rockband: your races this week-end! Can't wait to hear all about it! :yay:

What is the one thing that you have done this week that is helping you along this journey?

Faithfully tracking every bite in my WW tracker.

Have a great day all!

Question of the Day

What is the one thing that you have done this week that is helping you along this journey?

I have stocked up on healthy snack items and put them into serving size bags for easy accsess. It helps so much to be able to just grab a baggie of whatever than to have to think about serving size when I am in a hurry.

Today I am going to break out my Dancing with the Stars Cardio Dance DVD to try. I have had it for a while and have not used it yet. Wish me luck.

That sounds so beautiful. I tried kayaking last summer, and I'm not a water person, but once I was sure I wasn't going to tip, it was so relaxing and peaceful. Thank you for coaching this week Dona, and for being our team captain!!
Question of the Day

What is the one thing that you have done this week that is helping you along this journey?
I have tracked every bite and also stayed within my ww points. Trying to stick with the if I bite it, I write it. That has been a key for me to losing in the past. My goal is to track every bite, even if I go over ww points, until 2/23 when we go to wdw.

Even when I run, I have to talk - I don't care if the person running with me answers me back, they just have to grunt at me once in a while.
:rotfl2: I'd be more of the grunting running partner. Hoping as I lose some weight, I'll be able to talk a little more.

My DS received the Kinect for XBox, and along with it Dance Central. I haven't tried it yet - I am waiting for when I am alone. LOL But it was fun watching the kids using it.

I recently borrowed some Zumba dvd's to see if I like them. Now to find some free time.
I've heard great things about the kinect. We just have the wii. I should check out some zumba dvds. I've heard zumba is so much fun.

Am I the first person who has to 'fess up that they don't really like exercise?
I need to pretend i like it in order to do it. Denial is key for me.:rotfl2:

My newest niece, Laura was born this morning.
:cloud9:Congatulations Auntie!! Bet your dd's are loving being close to their little cousins.

There's a very kind but no-nonsense woman and also an enthusiastic, PRETTY man. There is something about being told first thing in the morning by a pretty man that "you all look amazing!!!" that works for me.

Whoo hoo! GO TEAM DONALD!!!

Today I am going to break out my Dancing with the Stars Cardio Dance DVD to try. I have had it for a while and have not used it yet. Wish me luck.
I'd love to hear how you like it.

Good morning everyone!! Our first week is almost over and I love the motivation here. Got to remember those healthy habits today, especially that water to flush out the last few ounces this week for weighin tomorrow.
I'm off to work this morning, but the past 2 days I got off at 2, and got to catch up here, but today and tomorrow i'm on til 5:30, so I'll miss my afternoon dis time. It definitely helps me plan a healthier dinner if i check in here first.

Have a great day everyone!!

QOTD- meal planning and cooking ahead has helped me through the week although I had a bad day yesterday and ate too much candy.

Question of the Day

What is the one thing that you have done this week that is helping you along this journey?

Since I'm off to a slow start (will be in full swing come Monday) I've cut back on my night-time snacking. That's always been my issue. I'll have to go back to my teeth whitening strips. I woujld pop one in around 7:30 pm, leave it on for the 30 minutes and after that I wouldn't want to eat. So it prevents me from snacking and I get white teeth. It's a win-win. :rotfl::rotfl:

There's a Thursday night Zumba class down the street that I've been wanting to go to. Just not sure I'm ready for that though....:scared1:

Question of the Day

What is the one thing that you have done this week that is helping you along this journey?

Tracking always helps and I've done well with that this week, but it's already been mentioned so... to add to the discussion, I'll say:

I bought some cut-up fruits and vegetables. It makes it so easy to munch something smart when I get hungry. I also got out the tea kettle and have been drinking a lot of hot tea this week - it's so comforting, enjoyable and pleasant, I think it really provides that little mental break I have often sought with inappropriate snacking.

I've also got something to run by the group - I am thinking of changing my pounds lost clippie. The 55 clippie reflects the pounds I lost starting from my first Biggest Loser Challenge in January 2009. However. My starting weight from my January 2007 WWonline weigh in was actually 10 pounds higher. When I started in 2009, I didn't even want to face up to being where I was, let alone having been 10 pounds heavier. The fact that I managed to keep at least those 10 pounds off (sometimes more) for those two intervening years...well, I'm feeling like that is something to be proud of as well. And I feel like maybe I should really own my actual earlier starting weight and not essentially deny it ever happened. SO, if you happen to notice that I've suddenly "lost" 10 more pounds, do not fear for my health or mental well being. They are "OLD" pounds that I'm just now claiming.

PSA for the day (I am full of them!): Keep your floors clean enough to eat off of so when you accidentally drop half your allowed egg on it on the way to the table you can just pick it up and eat it anyway. 10 SECOND RULE! When that is all the food I get I am not losing a bit of it! :lmao:

Question of the Day

What is the one thing that you have done this week that is helping you along this journey?

Sort of 2 things but they go together: Making a menu of dinner plans for 2 weeks out (with a list of suggested breakfast/lunch/snacks) and getting the grocery shopping done for a full week of those menus. That keeps me from having to grab frozen pizza, chicken nuggets or fast food because I forgot to thaw something out, can't figure out what to make, or realize at the last minute I am missing something I need so fall back to bad choices.

You worked hard to lose every pound you took off and you should be proud. :woohoo: If you lost it flaunt it!:thumbsup2

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! I just spent TWO HOURS here replying and posting and it all just POOFED away!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

Well... I said SUPER nice and SUPER supportive things to EVERYONE!!! I solved all your problems and I was funny and witty and compassionate and insightful! :rotfl:

Holey guacamole.... I am SO frustrated. I just can't repeat it all right now. Suffice to say.... Hello, I'm still alive, and now I have no more time to say any more.

I GOTTA figure out what stupid key I am hitting that is causing this problem.... then I will PULL THAT KEY off the keyboard and throw it away!

Love you all................P

Well... I said SUPER nice and SUPER supportive things to EVERYONE!!! I solved all your problems and I was funny and witty and compassionate and insightful! :rotfl:

Well, of course you were! :flower3: Darn that poof fairy anyway! I started doing the copy thing and that seems to work well. It seems to happen more if you have to open another window and end up being signed in twice -- at least for me anyway.

Today was my weigh in day for WW -- down 4.5 pounds! :yay: I ended up with 41 weekly points and 26 activity points that I didn't use though -- that's like two full days worth of points. :sad2: It worked out fine this week but I can see how that might cause me to get stalled out, especially with the Princess training. I'll have to try and at least use my weeklies this week.

Love you all................P

OMG!!!! I HATE it when that happens!!! And it happens all too frequently! When you find out which key is the culprit, let me know!!

This has NOT been a good food week for me, but on the positive, I am now permitted to walk alone again. So far I've done 13.86miles since 1/1. I go back to vein DR. tomorrow and home to be allowed to do something besides walking. I'm not anticipating a stellar weigh in, but hope to lose something. I also hope that between hauling DS25 and other stuff I can make WW tomorrow and 'restart'.....again!

I got Zumba Fitness for kinnect, but haven't tried it yet. Also want to get back to some other DVDs when I can't get outside.

DS25 car still at the side of the road, and instead of dealing with it, he's playing his guitar, singing loudly off key, and annoying everyone. Such is life!

Hope everyone has a great day!

Just FYI if it poofs because of a DIS problem (which happens often!) if you quickly hit the back arrow then sometimes you can retrieve it. Otherwise I also try to highlight and click copy every few paragraphs when I am doing something long and/or insightful just in case. My new keyboard has the hidden delete key too and it drives me crazy!

Darn that poof fairy anyway! I started doing the copy thing and that seems to work well.

:lmao: Poof Fairy! I love it! I'm going to start blaming her too!:tink:

Thanks for all of your support! That stinks that you lots everything. We all appreciate your encouraging thoughts though!

I'm so glad I found someone else who likes the lime yogurt! My favorites are the citrus flavors...lime, lemon and orange (tastes like a dream-cicle..awesome!) My BF thinks I am a wierdo for not liking the "regular" flavors like blueberry and strawberry-banana.

QOTD 1/6--Honestly, I think posting here has helped keep me on track. I feel like if I mess up I won't only be letting myself down, but others as well. I want to be able to inspire others by doing well, rather than bring myself down by doing poorly. I think the other thing that has helped me is buying a box of fudgecicles. I have a serious sweet tooth and I am pretty sure that cutting out all sweets would result in disaster eventually, so having a little 60 calorie treat to look forward to is pretty helpful!

Wishing everyone an awesome day!

beth

He is attending UNCSA for their high school ballet program. We feel really lucky that he got in, and received the scholarships that made this opportunity possible. That said, if hes successful, he won't ever really be home again. Even during the summer, he has to go away to ballet intensives for 5 weeks, so we don't even see him then! I'm super proud of him, but miss him like crazy.

Wow that is amazing :thumbsup2 But sad for you at the same time

Question of the Day

What is your favorite exercise?

Cardio Kickboxing!

But are you old enough to remember the big old metal tree in the middle of the LTM?

I think I do remember. Or how about the cute little Christmas displays they used to have at the NSM. Or when Toys R Us was at the end near that odd grocery store?

Almost forgot:

Happy Birthday to pudgethefish (Abby)!!!!
Hope you have a fabulous day today!:goodvibes

Yay, Happy Birthday Abby! :cool1:

QOTD: What is keeping me on track? I am off to a very slow start with making changes in my life (I did not say diet). I have tracked what I have eaten, even though I have not been following the program. I am having a hard time eating veggies. All the fresh stuff around here looks awful, and the canned/frozen stuff bores me.

Glad to see so many of you making positive changes and having good starts!
