TEAM DONALD--Biggest Loser 11 Spring Team Challenge

Got my workout in this morning, I might try to do Wii this afternoon if the kids finish up homework early. Got 3 waters in already.
I need to stock up on veggies, but I do have carrots in the fridge so I guess I'll nosh on those today.

Ate an ok breakfast. I need to find stuff that's easy to make that isn't carb loaded. I'm tired of oatmeal.....

 The family is all out of the house so I am hoping I can get it cleaned up. Got the refrigerator cleaned out last night which was way overdue and allowed me to do some rearranging. I am decided that I am not going to store my fruits and vegetables in the drawers. When I do they are out of sight and out of mind. I am putting them on a shelf where they are easy to see and easy to grab. I put the chocolate syrup, jelly, high fat salad dressing, and other things I am trying to avoid in the drawers.:thumbsup2

Ladies,
It's not that I don't want to take the time to answer the QOTD, but I've got something more important that I need to share with you....

It's almost Girl Scout Cookie time:eek: (sales start Saturday)

.

:rotfl: I got my email last night about picking up the forms and all that. While normally I can down a box of my favorites in no time for some reason I didn't really like them last year. Not sure if it was me or that the cookie quality went down but I still have a bunch of boxes in my freezer and I sent a bunch to school with DD a few weeks ago when she needed a snack to share. So I probably won't buy any this year.

We do a donation sale where you can purchase and they are donated directly to the designated organization. Do you do that? It is a good way to support the scouts and the group they are supporting.

I'm starting that too!! I also turned in all my PTO stuff today, it was soooo liberating!

Hi Buffy!
When I turned all of mine in the end of last year it was a huge weight loss! I think I lost about 100 pounds off my shoulders that day. I also stepped back from a board I am on and don't have as much responsibility so that has freed up time and stress. I am trying to focus on me this year.

tink2007,

Off to sleep. As Jillian says we need sleep for our body to do the hormone portion of losing and boosting metabolism. I'm down for sleeping off some fat how about you? :)

Before I go and forget I wanted to share this brussell sprout recipe

:lmao: Now losing weight while I sleep is totally an activity I can support.

Thanks for the recipe, and to alison16 too. I will give them a try. So far I think I have just been having them steamed then sauteed a little (FIL makes them).

We've got a small chance of snow down here in SW VA tonight, Thursday night, Friday, Monday and Tuesday. BRING IT ON!! I need a snow day!

Taryn

Where are you? I lived in Bristol for about 5 years and absolutely loved it! I would love to move back there.

It reminds me of a quote I saw about this lady who signed up for an exercise class and they told her to wear loose clothing. She said if she had any loose clothing she wouldn't need the exercise class. LOL

:lmao: Love it!

Question of the Day

What is your favorite exercise?

Have a happy and healthy day

It would have to be swimming. I hate to sweat!
I am primarily focusing on my food changes right now. I am not able to do much exercise but am planning to try some weight lifting with hand weights. I also do my physical therapy exercises. They won't do anything for weight loss (can't lose much weight exercising your feet!) but I am hopeful that the combination of getting some weight off and strengthening my problem areas will change things for the better for me.

Well, I'm faltering before even starting. I blame it on my husband. :rotfl: Darn man won't go back to work!!

I don't like to exercise in front of him and if I say it's time to diet again I'm afraid he'll just roll his eyes at me. Not because he's not supportive, because he really is, it's just that the last few times I've failed miserably.

I know I need to just bite the bullet (is that low cal?) and get back on track. I need to purge the house of junk, not that we have a lot to begin with, and sit down and figure out my menus and hit the store. So why don't I? I need a good kick in the butt!!
.

:cool1: See this guy? He is Kicking! GET THAT MENU MADE TODAY! And you don't need to tell him that you are "dieting". Just make the changes. You said it, you are working on changing habits. So start with those new habits. He doesn't have to know why.

Hello to everyone else! I heard that you all are were planning on buying TONS of girl scout cookies.;) :rotfl:

::yes:: Buying boxes and boxes of them and sending them all to Team Mickey! :rolleyes1

I am joining you for this challenge as a "Maintainer." Which is a lot more challenging than it sounds! This challenge marks 2 years of Biggest Loser Challenges for me - my first one was in January of 2009 and I have spent the last year maintaining the loss I achieved that first year.

This is my third time through GS Cookie Time and the Biggest Loser, so I can tell you - it CAN be done!!! Everyone is different, so different strategies help different people. Here is what has worked for me, regarding GS Cookies.

Congratulations on your loss and maintenance! It is inspirational for us to hear from those that have been through it and come out on the other side.

Great advice on the cookies.

Ate an ok breakfast. I need to find stuff that's easy to make that isn't carb loaded. I'm tired of oatmeal.....

I found this recipe yesterday and want to try it. I don't have any seeds in the house so will have to go shopping. It looks like a good recipe to personalize with what ever you like. http://www.eatingwell.com/recipes/almond_power_bar.html

And this is my staple. I make a batch of them and put them in the freezer. They can be adapted any way you like too. Different veggies, turkey bacon or sausage, add other seasoning or garlic.

LTS, Thanks for all of the great veggie ideas! I love veggies, but I am what you would call lazy when it comes to cooking and being in the kitchen. Maybe I can try a few of your tips and start to up my intake a little!

QOTD 1/5--I would have to say that my favorite exercise is playing Ultimate. Unfortunately, I didn't get on a winter league team, so I will have to wait until spring to start :sad2: However, it is a good motivator for me to keep working out. My BF and I are thinking about starting a competitive team this spring, and if I plan on being able to compete, I better be a little lighter and a little faster than I am now. When I can't play Ultimate, I try to run (which I don't like very much), but as I am running, I picture myself playing and being really fast and making really awesome plays and it keeps me going :thumbsup2

I hope everyone has an awesome day!

QOTD: Favorite Exercise. The problem is I haven't figured that out yet. I mainly walk, either in the neighborhood or on a treadmill at the Y. I enjoy swim/walking/jumping in the water, except it seems like the getting ready and the getting back to normal dress time take soooo long. I used to enjoy Curves, but didn't feel as though it actually helped me that much. Maybe I should explore other options to find something that I enjoy enough to do.

Those who know me know my life is never sane. Today is no exception. I had just finished my daily Bible reading, and reading a book on my phone and DS25 called. His car is dead....truly DEAD, at the side of the road. He has NO money, NO credit, but is employed making almost 26k/yr, no bills as he lives at home.

So, he thinks we will cosign or loan him money for a car, and he can use mine or DDs as he wishes. Think again. Maybe if he didn't drink or smoke pot, etc. So, I am dealing with him, his mood, his anger which he unleashes on me. Wish me luck!!

Off to make beef veggie soup for dinner. Might not be able to walk outside today as it's REALLY windy on top of the cold. Time will tell........

Hope you are having a better day than I am!!

Question of the Day What is your favorite exercise?

You'd think it would be running since I do it so much, but my actual favorite is yoga, which I do once a week. That may be part of it -- it isn't as frequent so it's more "special", plus I love the way I feel energized and relaxed afterwards.

Last post before we head to FL -- I'll pm what I have for HH and my weight to Tigger tomorrow am. I have to make my list for our grocery stop tonight. It's definitely going to include plenty of fruit. I'm also going to use a tried and true from Corinna, and order a kid's meal unless I'm ridiculously hungry. The adult meals are way more than I need, particularly since I seem to feel dessert should be part of every dinner  What I have learned -- if it's a dessert I can get at home, I don't bother. This is the time to eat things I can't easily find like carrot cake cookies, or custom-dipped pretzels -- chocolate chip cookies can be found anywhere! ::yes::

Everybody have a great weigh in, a great weekend, and I'll catch you next week!

Amazon is having a sale on exercise DVDs, so I picked up Jillian's 30 Day Shred and Walk Away the Pounds based on everyone's recommendations. Just gets to add to my exercise variety!

I didn't get a chance to go shopping for the OAMM menu, so that is a must-do today. After unburying my treadmill yesterday, I created a mess on the other side of my room that doubles as my art studio so now I have to unbury it so I can start making art again. *sigh* So much to do!

If you ever need anyone to check on him, let me know! I'm pretty close by!!!

I may take you up on that!

I like eating a cup of greek yogurt. (Chobani is my favorite) It has 140 calories and a terrific carb/protein ratio. This leaves me enough calories in the morning for other good things to balance things out.

Kids sure put us through the ringer, don't they? Sometimes you want to love them and lump them all at the same time. Hope you get through this patch with less wear and tear.

QOTD 1/5/2011 - What is your favorite exercise?

Kayaking!! We did a lot of it last summer, and I just adored it. We ended up buying some used kayaks off of craigslist at the end of the season and they are sitting in my backyard just waiting for me. I can hardly wait until spring to put them in the water again.

My second favorite would have to be hiking in the forest preserves. I like to see at the flowers, birds, and trees and even got an identification app so I could look them up on the fly.

Summer can't get here soon enough.

I started a thread last night on the community board about losing weight and a few people sent me to this thread and said it may help me. :goodvibes

My name is Carla and I am an unmotivated, SAHM who needs to lose about 15-20 pounds by MAY!!:rotfl2: I have tried to join these things before but I have not been willing to stick with it. Hopefully I am on the right track now so we will see. I just started yesterday and so far today I have done OK. I am just taking this thing one day at a time.

:yay::cheer2::woohoo::banana:

Welcome to the team! I'll get back to that PM later this week. It's been nutty with school. Seems like all my instructors think I need homework right off the bat! :lmao::rotfl2: I would have rather eased into 2 of my classes so I could go full bore in chemistry. Yes, I iz a nerd.

So for the QOTD, my favorite exercise is ice hockey or ice skating. I LOVE it! I could do it forever. I used to... before everything. I'm trying to take baby steps to get back on the ice again. I also love horseback riding. I've been doing that since I was a kid. Nothing more relaxing than a trail ride.

Oh and I've found the perfect antidote to Girl Scout cookie time... become allergic to gluten! :rotfl2: Dang, I'm going to miss those thin mints...

Having to take it easy for the next few days. I DO NOT have pneumonia. But, my asthma has conveniently decided to flare up NOW! Dang it. I think because of the cold. I haven't had an inhaler in a few years and was hoping the asthma had gone away. So it's back on the inhaler and light exercise indoors probably until next week to give my lungs a break. Sigh. I'm heading to Seattle tonight anyway to see the Harry Potter exhibit at the Pacific Science Center tomorrow, then taking the train home at night (it's nice to have Tuesdays and Thursdays with no classes! :dance3:) so I can be back for classes on Friday.

Dang it, why do all the sickies seem to follow me around the school? Don't they know I'm A:) immunocompromised from steroids and B:) have asthma? Time to pack up and move to a different section of the library me thinks...

shoot, I'm late coming into this. Can I add my stuff on next week? What day do you take the measurements?

Hi Buffy! Just send your starting measurement number to me as soon as you can and I will record it for 1/1.

We will be measuring-in once every four weeks during this challenge. The dates are: 1/1, 1/28, 2/25, 3/25, 4/22, and 5/20.

Hi everyone-hope you're having a good day-I have my workout clothes on, sneakers laced up ready to hit the treadmill as soon as I am done here.

QOTD: My favorite exercise is probably hiking, but I don't ever go because I am afraid of bears and mountain lions and scary stuff like that. Not that I've ever seen one, and here in NJ I think we only have the bears that are "supposedly" more scared of us, but I'm not chancing it. ;op
Soooo..walking, preferably with a friend so you can chat and make the time fly by.

It felt amazing!!! And DD has decided she doesn't want to go there so I'm getting a clean slate with the catholic school and I refuse to volunteer. I've poured over 10 years in at the public school and got zero out of it. DS10 has 3 more years there but at this point in the game they don't want parent involvement so that's fine with me. At the new school I will write them a check and tell them to go away. Mean? Yes but I've been burned enough to remember the pain.

I will do that tonight!!!! And I'll add the other dates into my calendar. After 4 kids, the brain is a sieve. I'll never remember this! LOL

Almost forgot:

Happy Birthday to pudgethefish (Abby)!!!!
Hope you have a fabulous day today!:goodvibes

And of course just because I wrote this today I got a call from my friend that is the treasurer because there is a box in the mail room with my name on it. I told her to open it and inside was a freaking Flip Video Camera! Sent free from one of the fundraising programs I busted my tail for and the new person decided isn't worth her time. I guess it is supposed to be for them to use to make videos to promote the program or maybe send to the company. Which wont happen. I did the right thing and told her to give it to the school librarian.

I got one too!! It's from Coke. I took it home, the PTO pres didn't want it.

God this moves really fats, miss a day miss a whole lot!!:confused3

Yesterday qotd:
Question of the Day

If you have just one day at DW which park would you want to see? Or would you hop to do your favorites?

I would hop for sure. Gotta due ToT, RnR but can't miss my fave HM.

phorsenuf - we used to do the dame thing. I lived in Boston until 14 yrs ago then fled south. My family had a summer house so we spent all our summers in MarshVegas.

Heather.Mohler
- just don't get discouraged. What I did was add about 10% on time and distance, until I could do a whole mile at about 2.5 pace.
Then I slowly added 1 minute of run for every 5 min walking. As I felt better I added another 30seconds running and subtracting walking.
Like:
1 r - 5 w
1:30 r - 4:30 w
2 r - 3 w etc..

It was a slow process but as you stick to the diet and add the calorie burn weight will come off. You may have to sacrifice distance but I never did less than 30 minutes on TM.

Now gonna catch up with the rest:3dglasses

Geez, and you couldn't come with them to meet me? I'm slightly north of W-S. Girl... :lmao: How much longer do you have??? Safe travels!!!!!Taryn

NO WAY!!! I've already done my 24 hours with his family:rotfl: Actually did 44 hours this year due to snow....I can just hear it now: "Hon, can you drop me off here? I'm meeting a friend. Now y'all have a great weekend with the folks!" Don't think that would go over so well:rotfl2: Actually, I think it would be really cool to meet one day:thumbsup2

Leaving tomorrow at 12:00(noon) EST and arriving in Stuttgart at the equivalent of 2:30 am EST, will be a long long day, killer flight back. We are trying to corral all our stuff back into bags now. We can each check 2 50 lb bags for free and we will need every bit of that luggage allowance.....I keep piling stuff up on the table and DH is our logistics co-ordinator, figuring out where to put everything. We are taking back a cute teddy bear project for a friend's classroom. This bear has been everywhere, pictures of him with the President of Notre Dame, pictures of him in San Fran, Boston, and others. The last person mails the bear and journal back. Please don't let me lose this!!!

I am trying to catch up on posts, reading backwards and made it back as far as Tayrn's post. My exciting news for the day is that all my jeans were dirty this morning so I had to wear my new tight ones....guess what, they are not so tight!!! I bought 3 new exercise videos today - BL for Kinnect, 30 day shred and Leslie Sanstone 3 mile speed walk. This will help me when I can only exercise inside and keep a nice variety so I don't get bored:cool1:

My fav exercise is yoga. I keep trying to love running but not so much yet. Maybe when I've slimmed down some more it will be easier.

I was going to ask for an excuse on my WI this week due to travel but I think I'll just do it tomorrow for this week.

Back to packing........

Shawnprincess:

Just procrastinating making dinner, and came across this post by Flipflopmom-taryn on the mickey thread, and thought we could use it here too. This is one fast moving thread with so many people, but we are all here as much as we can, and even if you only pop on once a month or less, we can be successful with this challenge, and lose the weight, and get the support that is here.
FOR ALL THOSE OVERWHELMED BY THIS THREAD: DO NOT DESPAIR AND GIVE UP!I know it's moving fast! I know there are tons of pages to read daily! I add to that count. But whatever you do, do not let that stand in the way of your success. I've seen SOOO many people drop out of challenges because they can't keep up with the thread. NO EXCUSES people! Read if you can, answer QOTD. Post any challenges or successes you are having to get motivation, but DO NOT GIVE UP!!!

I try to respond a lot, because that's my nature on here. Don't feel like you have to!
Thanks Taryn!!

Shawn- Hope packing goes well and a big whoo hoo on the tight jeans not being so tight.:cool1: I think you should remember Taryn lives so close to the inlaws for your next visit. She could have come and got ya on a snowmobile if it snow. Have a safe trip back to Germany.
