Just procrastinating making dinner, and came across this post by Flipflopmom-taryn on the mickey thread, and thought we could use it here too. This is one fast moving thread with so many people, but we are all here as much as we can, and even if you only pop on once a month or less, we can be successful with this challenge, and lose the weight, and get the support that is here. Thanks Taryn!!

Shawn- Hope packing goes well and a big whoo hoo on the tight jeans not being so tight.:cool1: I think you should remember Taryn lives so close to the inlaws for your next visit. She could have come and got ya on a snowmobile if it snow. Have a safe trip back to Germany.

Thanks Kathy!!! Love Tayrn's quote too - good advice!

As far as the speed of the thread, I try to read my email notifications as much as possible and skim. You can't catch everyone but I look for my name to pop up. These threads crank out so not everyone will be able to keep up. I'm on here all the time and still can't keep up.
Don't sweat it!

hey everyone! Keep up the good work! Water hasn't been a problem for me--which is AWESOME because in the past, any time i would be motivated to get in shape--water was my undoing. That is a big thank you to all of you--nothing motivates me like disney (or people who love disney).

QOTD: I don't know that I have one. I like swimming quite a bit, but here in illinois its a little cold for that! Maybe it'll be warm enough to swim when I get to florida in a few weeks!

Hey everyone

To answer the question about the Sonoma Diet - it's based on eating good, whole foods. Lean Meats, Lots of Veggies, Fruit and appropriate amounts of whole grains. It stresses portion control (2 cup bowl for Breakfast or 7 inch plate of set amount of food group, 9 inch plate for Dinner). There are also some suggested snacks.

I'm not sure how I feel about for a long term plan. Seems inflexible on somethings (no white potatoes, ever) - I'm used to Weight Watchers, where you can plan for the bad stuff. This diet however makes me feel guilty - so maybe the WW Points Plus would be a good compromise? We'll see - my husband and I want to find something we can both agree on and sustain.

QOTD - What's my favorite exercise?
All time favorite would be roller skating - too bad there aren't enough roller rinks around :)

My current exercise of choice is Zumba.

Thanks for the veggie recipes - keep them coming !

I think I did a bad thing today. I didn't eat breakfast. :scared1: I was running late and figured I had time to stop and grab a low fat chocolate milk, but nope, did not and had to get to work. I have a 40 minute commute each way.

Thinking the chocolate milk would give me some protein and help with my sore muslces, I know I should drink it 20 minutes after my work out.

Anyway, I ate normal lunch and didn't gorge myself. Didn't drink enough water today, but had a good dinner and heck of a work out. I got my tail kicked today. I'm gonna be sore tomorrow, I know it. I've been busting my kester all week and I hope it translates to the scale Friday.

I'll do better tomorrow, and I'll have breakfast.:woohoo:

Hello all! :wave2:

No time to catch up so I am just hopping on where I am. :flower3:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ABBY! :bday:party:

Am I the first person who has to 'fess up that they don't really like exercise? :confused3 I know that is one of the things that got me to where I am now. :sad2: So I have learned that while I don't particularly like exercise, I do love the way it makes me feel and how it has helped to change my body for the better.

Have a great evening!

Question of the Day

What is your favorite exercise?

My favorite is swimming! I practically lived in the neighbor's pool during the summer's growing up, and we're keeping annual passes to the water park that's a 2 hour drive away. We can't go daily during the summer, but we can get in several days.

I also love yoga and biking (but have no bike and no realistic place to ride if I had one). In the spring, there are a couple of good walking trails (although a lady was bit by a snake at one last summer, which quickly curbed my walking there....

As far as the speed of the thread, I try to read my email notifications as much as possible and skim. You can't catch everyone but I look for my name to pop up. These threads crank out so not everyone will be able to keep up. I'm on here all the time and still can't keep up.
Don't sweat it!

Do you remember the Cosby Show episodes where Clare and someone else would start speaking in Spanish? He'd always say, "I'm just listening for my name..." :rotfl:

Man, I miss one day or so and the pages of posts double! I skimmed the posts but don't have the time (or attention span) to read every one of them. :sad2: But hopefully I'll be able to keep up now. Maybe. Kinda. Probably not. But I'll do what I can. Atleast I only missed one QotD! So here goes:

1/4/11 QotD - If you have just one day at DW which park would you want to see? Or would you hop to do your favorites?

I wouldn't want to lose the time it would take to travel between parks, so I'd have to stick to one... I would have to go with Magic Kingdom. It is just the definition of Disney. But I would miss the other parks.

1/5/11 QotD - What is your favorite exercise?

I can't say I have a favorite exercise, but if I had my choice of which one to do it would be lifting weights. That's one thing to be said for being fat - you get strong lugging all that butt around.

I hope everyone is having a great week - only two days till weigh in!

Heather

>>1/5/11 QotD - What is your favorite exercise?<<

I'd have to say walking theme parks but realistically I have to say Pilates..

As for the breakfast thing- When I started this round of the journey I started forcing myself to eat breakfast each day. Its always a cup of yogurt (flavors change) and a cup of dry cereal (changes weekly- currently honeycomb) but its amazing how much I've come to depend on that stability. The one day I didn't keep to the routine I found the whole day suffered.

Happy Birthday Abby!!! :dance3:And can you tell Pudge that Taryn REALLY wants a snow day tomorrow?

"Hon, can you drop me off here? I'm meeting a friend. Now y'all have a great weekend with the folks!" Leaving tomorrow at 12:00(noon) EST and arriving in Stuttgart at the equivalent of 2:30 am EST, will be a long long day, killer flight back. We are trying to corral all our stuff back into bags now. My exciting news for the day is that all my jeans were dirty this morning so I had to wear my new tight ones....guess what, they are not so tight!!!
Awww Shawn.... Just give me directions next time, I'll show up, and you can sneak out the back door. They wouldn't miss you until you were gone, I can drive fast! :rotfl: Good luck with the packing, and have safe travels tomorrow. That just sounds.... like torture! Let us know when you get there safely! WAYY cool on those new jeans!!!!

Where are you? I lived in Bristol for about 5 years and absolutely loved it! I would love to move back there.::yes:: Buying boxes and boxes of them and sending them all to Team Mickey! :rolleyes1

We're about an hour south of Blacksburg, on the VA/NC line! Been through Bristol a few times! KEEP THOSE COOKIES, LADY!

His car is dead....truly DEAD, at the side of the road. He has NO money, NO credit, but is employed making almost 26k/yr, no bills as he lives at home. So, he thinks we will cosign or loan him money for a car, and he can use mine or DDs as he wishes. Think again. Maybe if he didn't drink or smoke pot, etc. So, I am dealing with him, his mood, his anger which he unleashes on me.
Aww Julie..... I'm so sorry. You've had such a tough fall/winter. Good luck, and hang tough!

It felt amazing!!! And DD has decided she doesn't want to go there so I'm getting a clean slate with the catholic school and I refuse to volunteer. I've poured over 10 years in at the public school and got zero out of it. DS10 has 3 more years there but at this point in the game they don't want parent involvement so that's fine with me. At the new school I will write them a check and tell them to go away. Mean? Yes but I've been burned enough to remember the pain.
As a public school teacher, this really saddens me. I know how hard our PTO works, just a handful of people that are willing to work, and NONE of the other parents give it a second thought. I know as a school we thank our PTO quite often, but I can imagine it's been a thankless job in many respects! Sorry you got burned!

Evening Donalds! To those racing this weekend - have an amazing race!!!

So much to catch up - I am going to try and read but want to post first in case I have so much to read that I never get back here! :rotfl2: I skimmed the posts last night but couldn't post - I was trying to finalize our resort plans for the Princess half Marathon - and then I found out today that SOG is offering incredible room rates for the exact period ($69 per night versus $149)! I am typing this with the phone cradled to my ear - I've been on hold for almost 40 minutes trying to speak with an agent (caveat: I have reservations at BOTH the Pop -free dining! - and SOG - humungous rooms but can't use the free dining program). I thought we were all set to go with the Pop but now...!!??? I wish they would answer my call in the line!!!

...Just got home 45 minutes ago and am beat. I had my AM boot camp class - which was great. It's early (5AM) but when we're done at 6:05 I feel like I've gotten off to a great start. Then a tabata class at lunchtime....and am now thinking I was crazy to try both on the same day. Soreness is starting to creep in. I may just hate myself on my scheduled 4 mile run tomorrow...

Shawn - Stuttgart is one of my favorite cities!! I did a high school exchange program to Geislingen and am still in touch with my partner family, 30 years later...I wish I could get back there more often.

Happy Birthday Abby!!!!:yay::yay::cheer2::cheer2:

Favorite exercise: probably my boot camp class. I'm more of a social exerciser - I like being able to talk and laugh with friends during a class. Even when I run, I have to talk - I don't care if the person running with me answers me back, they just have to grunt at me once in a while!!!:goodvibes

...STILL on hold...off to read the pages and pages of stuff I missed...!!!

Jude

Good morning everyone

IQuestion of the Day

What is your favorite exercise?

I am exploring different options. LOL I always fall back on walking. Years ago I belonged to a Volkswalking club in MA - Walk-n-Mass. They sponsor 10k that you go walk for fun. Mostly for free - or a small fee if you want your "books" stamped. It's something I would like to get into again. Most states have at least one club. If anyone is interested check out www.ava.org, you can find a local club there.

Any body have any fun dance dvds?

My DS received the Kinect for XBox, and along with it Dance Central. I haven't tried it yet - I am waiting for when I am alone. LOL But it was fun watching the kids using it.

I recently borrowed some Zumba dvd's to see if I like them. Now to find some free time.

QOTD 1/5/2011 - What is your favorite exercise?

Kayaking!! We did a lot of it last summer, and I just adored it. We ended up buying some used kayaks off of craigslist at the end of the season and they are sitting in my backyard just waiting for me. I can hardly wait until spring to put them in the water again.

My second favorite would have to be hiking in the forest preserves. I like to see at the flowers, birds, and trees and even got an identification app so I could look them up on the fly.

Summer can't get here soon enough.

I am hoping to try kayaking while we vacation on HHI this summer. Looks like something DH, DS and I can do together. Hopefully I will have lost a bit of weight so I can try it out without being embarrased.

Just popping in and like many others - have only been able to skim. Busy, busy day and night. Got my 30 minutes on the treadmill in. Like many other posters, I'm not a big fan of exercise, but know I need to do it. Favorite exercise is probably walking/hiking outside.

I never have been a big breakfast eater but am forcing myself to eat greek yogurt in the morning. It is low in calories and really high in protein. I also have a skim latte mid-morning and find that holds me fine for lunch. I think as my eating habits change, I will be more hungry in the morning and will add some oatmeal or cereal in when necessary.

Do you remember the Cosby Show episodes where Clare and someone else would start speaking in Spanish? He'd always say, "I'm just listening for my name..." :rotfl:

Kim

I do remember that!! I still do it, I hear blah blah blah Buffy, and then I'm like huh?!?!?

As a public school teacher, this really saddens me. I know how hard our PTO works, just a handful of people that are willing to work, and NONE of the other parents give it a second thought. I know as a school we thank our PTO quite often, but I can imagine it's been a thankless job in many respects! Sorry you got burned!

Sorry, didn't want to make you sad. I feel sure some of the teachers appreciate us but our previous president made the us vs them divide to great to repair. Also we have paras who are listening to their union reps when they say drive the parents out or they will take your jobs. I was actually told this by the librarian/aide who is in the union. So between those 2 things I decided to call it quits. I can't be bitter and angry when I'm in the building, all that does is hurt the kids. It kills me because we are such a small school 240 kids pre-k 3 year olds to 8th grade, it shouldn't be like this. We have zero community involvement, the town is divided 3 ways, the school, the parents, the town and no one wants to meet in the middle.

I have to keep reminding myself that I did do a lot in the last 10 years and I know that there are kids out there that I made a difference for. (DS14's class loved me, I was mom to all of them) but it hurts that the staff has been so cruel lately. I think our PTO will disband because all of the officers are stepping down and no one wants to take our place, we have literally 5 members besides the officers. Sadly the kids will pay the price because the staff will get what they want.
(and this is no way slamming teachers, they are underpaid and overworked, and 90% of my family is teachers. this particular group is just bitter I guess, can't really find a good word)

Ah shake it off. It will be ok. Whew, didn't mean to dump that on y'all.

QOTD: Favorite Exercise. The problem is I haven't figured that out yet. I mainly walk, either in the neighborhood or on a treadmill at the Y. I enjoy swim/walking/jumping in the water, except it seems like the getting ready and the getting back to normal dress time take soooo long. I used to enjoy Curves, but didn't feel as though it actually helped me that much. Maybe I should explore other options to find something that I enjoy enough to do.
I could have typed this exact thing. I really don't like to exercise, water aerobics was fun, but the time it takes to prep for it and having to freeze getting in/out of the pool just stops me from doing it.

So, I am dealing with him, his mood, his anger which he unleashes on me. Wish me luck!!
I hope things get better for you. Your DS sounds like my brother, he assums that things are just going to get handed to him without having to put in the hard work. Hang tough, my brother is 54 and still lives at home with my mother (never had a job, so at least your son has that going for him).

I think I did a bad thing today. I didn't eat breakfast. :scared1: I was running late and figured I had time to stop and grab a low fat chocolate milk, but nope, did not and had to get to work. I have a 40 minute commute each way.
Have you thought about keeping some emergency breakfast foods at your desk? I have a bag of cereal, a 1 cup measuring cup, bowl and spoon. Our company provides milk so I don't have to worry about that. But you could keep oatmeal packets or granola/protein bars in your desk for emergencies.

Favorite exercise? None really, I do much better if I have a buddy to go to the gym. Unfortunately, my DH and I keep saying that we want to get back to the gym but we get distracted by any little thing. When the weather is good we really like to take long walks with the dog. I like to ride my bike, but don't do that often enough either.

QOTD- My favorite exercise is dance. I have been dancing since I was 4 years old and I love it because it never feels like exercise to me.

Today was good. Breakfast was greek yogurt with a squirt of honey, blueberries and granola. I went for a quick walk after taking out the trash this morning. Lunch was a turkey sandwich on a whole wheat sandwich thin with pretzels and grapes. I went out to dinner with my mom tonight but we split two different appetizers, chicken lettuce wraps and fried zucchini. Every once in a while I like a little treat.

Checking in before I head to bed. Didn't have a great food day. I made the mistake of not having much in the way of carbs for bfast or lunch so I was feeling pretty crappy by late afternoon. And I realized that I probably wouldn't have time for dinner because I had a board meeting. So I decided to punt and had a PB&J to get some carbs and protein in (not a great South Beach choice though) and then had a Protein Shake at dinner time during the meeting. Feeling kind of hungry now but too tired to even try to think of something to eat right now. I would just grab something I would regret later.

I did try Yoplait Fat Free Key Lime Yogurt today. Let me say that I don't like yogurt. Really, really dislike it. And yes I have tried Greek Yogurt that everyone says is so great and really really don't like it either. But this Key Lime Yogurt was DA BOMB! Could have used a bit more tart to it but it was GOOOOOD. I had to check the pkg again to be sure it really was fat free and not off the charts in calories.

I got one too!! It's from Coke. I took it home, the PTO pres didn't want it.

:headache: Man, I would have loved to have had this, I did work hard for it! But the school deserves it and will probably put it to good use. I have been a little disheartened that the person that took over for me eliminated a lot of what I was doing. Oh, well. Not my position any more. I am taking this year off but will probably see if Historian is open next year. The school has a Scrapbook Club and the students have made the PTA scrapbook the last few years so I would certainly enjoy being involved with that aspect.

Me too. I teach dance still but just to the little ones....so a good zumba class is a blast for me!
