TEAM DONALD--Biggest Loser 11 Spring Team Challenge

Again I am playing catch up:rotfl2: It has been crazy with work, getting house organized etc..

Os yesterday's QOTD 1st.
What is your favorite exercise?

Running but that has been impossible for the time being. So I would have to say swimming. I swam all through HS & college and love it still. I think I am more at home in the water than on land.

I am working on a date, maybe a place for a meet. Seems alot of us are north, sp I was thinking maybe North Shore Mall area or Burlington Mall area. Noth have some great restaraunts with healthy options.

I have a question - How do you guys do multiple quotes in your post? I can do one but I am envious of you multitaskers :worship:

Question of the Day

What is the one thing that you have done this week that is helping you along this journey?

I would say plan ahead. I have bought only healthy lowcal or veggie snacks. We go to alot of sporting events and that is soo hard. SO I eat before we go and find a fresh stand with maybe turkey or something other than pizza.
2nd would be my food diary on fitday.com - I was surprised at all the hidden calories I was eating.

Waiting on a tow truck for DS25. I get the bad mommy award for making him call to arrange it! lol!

So far, so good today. not sure I will stay on track, but knowing you all are here is really helping! Thanks!

:headache: Man, I would have loved to have had this, I did work hard for it! But the school deserves it and will probably put it to good use. I have been a little disheartened that the person that took over for me eliminated a lot of what I was doing. Oh, well. Not my position any more. I am taking this year off but will probably see if Historian is open next year. The school has a Scrapbook Club and the students have made the PTA scrapbook the last few years so I would certainly enjoy being involved with that aspect.

Our school never would have used so the PTO pres said take it. The Historian position sounds cool! Our music teacher is kind of the school historian but she may not be there next year (budget cuts). Our school just had it's 50th anniversary celebration in 2009, before that we were all still in one room school houses. We had 8, 3 are left including what is now the post office. We are trying to get one of the schools moved to the current property.

. I really like kayaking, but can't do it often enough. I also like geocaching which is essentially hiking with technology in order to use billions of dollars of satellites to hunt for tupperware in the woods :)

LOL that's funny!!! We have a lot of geocaching spots around here. I've been trying to find something fun to do with the kids, maybe this is it!

Question of the Day

What is the one thing that you have done this week that is helping you along this journey?

Working out and posting here. Y'all keep me accountable.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! I just spent TWO HOURS here replying and posting and it all just POOFED away!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

Well... I said SUPER nice and SUPER supportive things to EVERYONE!!! I solved all your problems and I was funny and witty and compassionate and insightful! :rotfl:

Holey guacamole.... I am SO frustrated. I just can't repeat it all right now. Suffice to say.... Hello, I'm still alive, and now I have no more time to say any more.

I GOTTA figure out what stupid key I am hitting that is causing this problem.... then I will PULL THAT KEY off the keyboard and throw it away!

Love you all................P

Oh I hate it when that happens!! I can't figure it out either.

If I have an epic post I always copy it before submitting. Stupid DIS logs me out if I don't constantly change the page.

I had a busy but nice day. My newest niece, Laura was born this morning.

Yay, congratulations. That must have been so nice

Question of the Day

What is the one thing that you have done this week that is helping you along this journey?

I've been rather lazy this week, so I have to admit that this week the only thing I've done aside from getting back on the WW wagon is trying to keep up with this thread :goodvibes

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! I just spent TWO HOURS here replying and posting and it all just POOFED away!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

Ugh, that's the worst :headache: Especially when I'm writing in between my DS pulling at my leg, etc. and it takes forever to get it done.

ilovetoscrap is right, sometimes hitting the back button helps. Sometimes not so much

Almost forgot:

Happy Birthday to pudgethefish (Abby)!!!!
Hope you have a fabulous day today!:goodvibes

Happy, Happy to You, Abby!

My newest niece, Laura was born this morning..

Congratulations!!!

There is something about being told first thing in the morning by a pretty man that "you all look amazing!!!" that works for me.

Yeah... I think that would definitely work for me, too! :rotfl:

I've also got something to run by the group - I am thinking of changing my pounds lost clippie. The 55 clippie reflects the pounds I lost starting from my first Biggest Loser Challenge in January 2009. However. My starting weight from my January 2007 WWonline weigh in was actually 10 pounds higher. When I started in 2009, I didn't even want to face up to being where I was, let alone having been 10 pounds heavier. The fact that I managed to keep at least those 10 pounds off (sometimes more) for those two intervening years...well, I'm feeling like that is something to be proud of as well. And I feel like maybe I should really own my actual earlier starting weight and not essentially deny it ever happened. SO, if you happen to notice that I've suddenly "lost" 10 more pounds, do not fear for my health or mental well being. They are "OLD" pounds that I'm just now claiming.

I think you should definitely change that clippie! I would be super proud of that!

I'm so glad I found someone else who likes the lime yogurt! My favorites are the citrus flavors...lime, lemon and orange (tastes like a dream-cicle..awesome!) My BF thinks I am a wierdo for not liking the "regular" flavors like blueberry and strawberry-banana.

I'm going to have to try the key lime, it sounds really good! I love the Pineapple Upside Down Cake.

Question of the Day

What is the one thing that you have done this week that is helping you along this journey?
I think the biggest things I've been doing have already been mentioned... I started going to the gym again (4 days in a row!:banana:) and I've also started tracking my calories again...

Unfortunately, though, it's less than 1 week in, and I'm already getting a bit discouraged... I weighed myself again this morning, and I'm up 1lb from Monday... :sad2::sad1: I hope I don't let all of you guys down tomorrow... :sad1::sad1:

Finished my workout now I'm in pjs since that is all I had clean so I got my laundry going. I've tracked my food 3 whole days in a row on spark people. I was over by 100-300 calories each day but its a start to be accountable for my food. Today will be day 4 so that is my QOTD answer I have been tracking my food. I've been super hungry. I could be the intense workouts with Jillian or that time of month coming up. I am often extremely hungry the week before she arrives. Doing my best to avoid the chocolate and cookies still around. AHH :scared1: Yesterday was just over but I'm putting all the junk into the snack portion so I can subtract all that and see where I'd be if I just avoided those and it looks like I'd be doing good. :rolleyes1

Exercise is coming along. I skipped yesterday so my walk to the bus stop(maybe 1/4 mile) and back was it. But important part is I got back to it today. Nothing I can do about yesterday.

Speaking of exercise I think I forgot to answer that QOTD. So my favorite is swimming(can't wait for warm weather), yoga and running(when I was in shape for it) Walking is okay but I get bored with it easily. I love the feeling of the air running through your hair when you run. :lovestruc And the feelings of accomplishment when you are done. One day I'll work on my walk/jogging but don't want injuries making it tough.

Okay on to personals. First up Happy Birthday Abby. Hope it was a good one.

ask,
I usually avoid them at the stores by not carrying cash. DD doesn't do Girl Scouts or Brownies so I avoid it in that form. I'm sure it must be harder if your child is selling them.

Shannon,
I really like that quote. I had that problem the other night. I read but was too tired to reply to everyone.

Taryn,
Thanks for the encouragement and photo compliments. :goodvibes
I should stop in team Mickey sometime so many more familiar faces(names) there than here but I appreciate the newer faces just the same. :)

lovetoscrap,
Thanks for the link. I saved it. I'm always on the look out for tips on storage and use of a large variety. I enjoy pretty much every veggie. Not overly fond of corn but anything else I'm pretty much up for.
I forget my veggies are in the drawer sometimes too. I'm so mad I bought a 3 lb box of my favorite spring mix salad and checked it out today because planning to make a salad with lunch. Not sure if any of it will be good since it was best by the 3rd(crazy I got in on the 2nd :headache: ) I had planned to make a large bowl up to go with dinner. Maybe I can wash and spin it out and it will salvage enough for it. Guess I should go to the store this evening and get more.
I guess the facts are about human growth hormone only being released at night and it is quite important to weight loss I take it. I really should check the book out again.

princess reject,
I have had those times. Its not that I don't like cooking and more that I don't like the big mess cooking makes. And I tend to be quite impatient with things that take too long. Or forget things(what usually happens on taco nights and I over heated the corn tortillas the other day oh well I like tostadas too). As I learn to eat "clean" fresh foods I find I am enjoying learning to fix them up differently though.

Tauwillow,
you will love them. Walk Away the Pounds is a really basic workout but I love the weight work she adds in. 30 Day Shred is tough but works you so good.

honugirl,
My best friend's nephew just had his asthma flare up this year after years and years of no problems. Something must be in the air. :( Hope you feel better.

Shawn,
I know how that feels I loved running when I was in shape for it years ago. Now I wouldn't say I love it at all it would be torture but I think i could love it again.

pjlla,
I hit it sometimes too and have no idea sometimes its the button on the side of my mouse which I swear I disabled it from going backpage like it wanted to before. If you come right back to an empty text box press control + z it will sometimes save all that you just typed. It happens to everyone. :grouphug:

Lisa,
WOW 4.5 lbs is awesome. :thumbsup2 :woohoo:

Julie,
No bad mommy award for that. He is a big boy he can/should be able to take care of himself. You are very special for letting him live at home. I hope he can sort out his life soon.

Taralee,
I'm with you there. I have stepped on the scale a few times this week. But those lbs can fall of at the last moment. Make sure you get enough sleep for you body to do its job. I'm scared there with you as this morning I was up .4 so hope that it comes off tonight.

I love this attitude! We can't dwell on it when we aren't awesome...that can lead to a horrible downward spiral! When we falter a little, we have to resolve to fix it and move forward. Thanks for sharing this great outlook! :thumbsup2

QOTD:
I joined this group and feel that with the support and accountability found here, I can be successful. (and I also picked up Jillian's 30 day shred and some raw veggies for my snacks!)

Today was my weigh in day for WW -- down 4.5 pounds! :yay: I ended up with 41 weekly points and 26 activity points that I didn't use though -- that's like two full days worth of points. :sad2: It worked out fine this week but I can see how that might cause me to get stalled out, especially with the Princess training. I'll have to try and at least use my weeklies this week.

You're doing the new PointsPlus, right? The leaders are now seeming to say that you shouldn't even feel badly about not using up your dailies anymore. Don't leave 15 a day, but if you have 4-5 that you don't feel you need and you're getting your GHG's in (i.e. you're using those zero point fruits and vegetables), don't worry. You never have to worry about not using Weeklies or AP - they are there as your option. They do say to make sure you are having some treats during the week, though - that's what makes the plan liveable in the long term.

Nope, you get the GOOD Mommy award. You're never doing kids a favor in the long term by doing things for them that they can do for themselves. In the short term, well, we all help each other out, I suppose.

Nice job staying on track through everything!

I have a question - How do you guys do multiple quotes in your post? I can do one but I am envious of you multitaskers :worship:
.

In the bottom right of each post next to the QUOTE button is a button with a quotation mark and a plus sign "+ . Click this button on each post you want to quote and it will change to a minus sign "- (because you click it again if you change your mind and don't want to quote it) and change colors. Then when you are done and ready to post you can just click on Post Reply and the Reply to Thread box will open with all of the posts you are quoting in it. Then you have to go through and look for the quote tags
text [/QOUTE] (spelled incorrectly here so it show up) and post your replies under each one. You can also edit out information you don't want to include within the tags, just be sure that you don't delete any of the code.

Hello Everyone and I hope everyone is having a great day!

1/5/11 Question of the Day
What is your favorite exercise?

I really like BodyPump class. I've been doing it for about a year now and now do it at least 2 days a week and I aim for doing it 3 days a week. Right now the Precore Adaptive Motion Trainer is my machine of choice...both at the gym. I would love to have that machine at my house!

Question of the Day

What is the one thing that you have done this week that is helping you along this journey?

Crazy exercise this week....
Saturday....1 hr on the AMT Machine
Sunday....1 hr BodyPump Class and 1hr on the AMT
Monday....1 hr AMT Machine
Tuesday....20 min AMT machine and then BodyPump class
Wednesday...1hr AMT
Thursday....30 min. AMT and 1hr BodyPump class

I was a little tired at BP class today.:scared1:

This has NOT been a good food week for me, but on the positive, I am now permitted to walk alone again. So far I've done 13.86miles since 1/1. I go back to vein DR. tomorrow and home to be allowed to do something besides walking. I'm not anticipating a stellar weigh in, but hope to lose something. I also hope that between hauling DS25 and other stuff I can make WW tomorrow and 'restart'.....again!

Glad that you can walk again, Julie, I know that it is important to you! :goodvibes (and your dogs)

:lmao: Poof Fairy! I love it! I'm going to start blaming her too!:tink:

Regretably, the poof fairy seems to visit much more frequently than the tag fairy! :tinker:

Glad to see so many of you making positive changes and having good starts!

You, too! :goodvibes It's those slow, steady changes that will stick with you!

2nd would be my food diary on fitday.com - I was surprised at all the hidden calories I was eating.

::yes:: It's kind of a shocker, isn't it?

Oh I hate it when that happens!! I can't figure it out either.

You know if even the mods have trouble with the poof fairy, there is no hope for us mortals! ;)

Getting back on the WW wagon sounds like a pretty good step to me! :thumbsup2

Don't get discouraged! We all have weight fluctuations -- give it some time.

And don't ever worry about letting the team down if you have a gain -- it would be much more of a loss to the team if you left for good! :flower3:

We did teams this time around mostly to make it easier when we had so many folks at the beginning of the challenge so we didn't lose people in our mega-threads. We fully expect to merge the threads eventually so don't you be bailing out on us! :cheer2:

I was over by 100-300 calories each day but its a start to be accountable for my food. Today will be day 4 so that is my QOTD answer I have been tracking my food.

Hooray for tracking! :yay: Can you swap a few calories from a meal to give yourself a snack so maybe you won't feel so hungry?

I love this attitude! We can't dwell on it when we aren't awesome...that can lead to a horrible downward spiral! When we falter a little, we have to resolve to fix it and move forward. Thanks for sharing this great outlook! :thumbsup2

So true!

Thanks for letting me know that -- if I went to meetings I would pick up this useful info. It's probably somewhere on the site but I'm still getting the hang of that. I had a Starbuck's one day this week and two glasses of wine another day so I'm not depriving myself. I have noticed I am hungry when I wake up or right before dinner but I just remind myself what my friend Maria says "hunger is not an emergency." :flower3:

Can't wait to hear all about your race!

Ladies,
It's almost Girl Scout Cookie time:eek: (sales start Saturday)

These insidious little bits of deliciousness might be my weight loss undoing! :sad2: Seriously, I have no. control. with a box of thin mints or samoas in front of me.

Thankfully, I'm not the Cookie Mom for my girls' brownie troop this year (so all of the cookies won't be at my house), but we bought a ton from my girls last year and as the Troop Leader, I ended up buying the extra boxes (so I didn't have to deal with paperwork)...and EATING them all.

Please, help me stay strong.

I've been SO inspired by all of your stories of success so far! I'm glad I'm here! I have GOT to be able to get through cookie time with some self control....

Yikes is right:scared1:....I'm the cookie mom for my daughter's troop and I was last year too. The living room was the cookie storage area and it was tough to resist those cookies. But I resisted and didn't eat any last year and I will resist again this year too!!!!
Just try to keep your goal in mind....that's what helped me last year. If I could, I wouldn't even have them in the house.
For everyone who would like to support GS cookie sales but don't want to bring the cookies home, girl scout troops often have a Gift of Caring Service Project where they take donations to buy cookies to donate to a worthy group like the troops in Iraq/Afghanistan, hometown heroes like first responders (firefighters, EMT, police), a homeless shelter or food pantry etc.

Anyone doing the new Weight Watchers program? I need some help with something.

Anyone doing the new Weight Watchers program? I need some help with something.

I am but I am totally a WW novice. Corinna is also doing the new WW as well as mikamah, dvccruiser76 and keenercam (who is on Team Mickey). There are probably others who will chime in, too. :goodvibes

I want to go back to using the WW method but right now I can't get to the meetings to learn about the new plan. From what I gather fruits and veggies are free, aside from peas, corn, potatoes and avocados. I already have the new calculator so I can compute the new points and I know that the flex points went from 35 to 49.
Is the way you calculate your daily target points the same?

I have been using the Lose It app and I think it has helped a lot. My guess is the fact that I am writing down what I eat and how much is really what makes a difference. I can't even begin to count how many times I put a few crackers in my mouth when I get my kids a snack. This holds me much more accountable to myself! Also the calories show up when you type in a food which helps.

I briefly popped into a meeting to buy the new stuff when it came out. They calculated my points. Can't find anything in the books yet to tell how to calculate. but I get the minimum at age 50 5'3 which is 29.

I went and joined to get the new info, but haven't gone back for meetings. I weigh 212 am 46yo and got 31 points. They calculate it for you, so it is different. They didn't ask about activity or anything like that. I don't think the range is as big, since the least is 29. The leader at my meeting stressed to take the daily points for good health guidelines, and any extra non nutritional stuff should be from the weekly 49. Funny, the example they used was 138 pounds, and I thought, "hey, I got 75 pounds on her, and I only get 2 more points.?" But I was on 30 with the old plan, so it is really fine.

I am also using WW online but I don't know how the the calculations work. I know with the old system it was 60 calories per point but now they don't even ask for calories when you are manually calculating. Sorry I can't be of more help but I love it that most veggies and fruits are 0. This has been my first week really committing to the plan and I have to admit I've been hungry most of the week. My husband and I have been making some the recipes and wow is a serving small.

With that said, I can't really complain because with the plan and that I've been working out everyday, noticed I've been able to get rid of some the bloating (water weight) I had from all the wrong foods I was eating.
