Tarzan Rocks RIP

Wow, that really must have been something with all the families there.

Did anyone else see these singers?

I thought they were incredible.

mars315, I'm pretty sure it was the Tarzan guy who got hurt.

To be honest it couldn't have come sooner. I thought the theaming was horrible....umm blades? Come on. Wife and I swore we would never go back to Tarzan Rocks as long as it was still there. Now I don't have to worry about it. But to each their own :)

Didn't really care for it myself, but the wife loved it. Basically-if you are disappointed in it-nobody is forcing you to watch it. I don't care for the "thrill" rides at Disney-but don't trash those that do.

Disney often makes changes to keep attractions fresh-it has been done at all parks. If everything remains the same, why go back year after year. Look at the American automakers-they did not adapt and make changes-now look where they are at.

Best wishes to those who performed in that show. They were talented, but the show was not my cup of tea. Hopefully they found other performing jobs at Disney, not just another position. Here's hoping for another great production along the lines of the Lion King or Beauty and the Beast.

Very well said.

My family enjoyed the show very much. Just wish I got the whole show on tape.

Cheers: :cool1:

I had heard that this was closing and had to come here to confirm it. I'm glad we got the chance to see it on our last trip. It was our first time seeing it and as it turns out our last.

I have to say that it didn't grab me the way the Lion King show did but it wasn't terrible either. I think whether you loved it or hated it we will all be waiting anxiously to see what they replace it with. Unless they've already said and, once again, I'm the last to know. :goodvibes ;)

This just reaffirms to me how bummed I am we missed seeing this show on all but our first trip! We really liked it, it may not have been our favorite but I am sorry to see it go. I enjoyed the live musical element of the show. I am glad to know all the members of that cast have new jobs. Does anyone know what will replace this show?

IT WAS JUST A SHOW! Can we all just get along?

Well, actually Disney cares which is probably why they are closing the show...right?? Do you see Festival of the Lion King "on the block"...no, why? Because it is a good show, no one wants to see it go. Tarzan Rocks clearly had issues which is why it is being replaced\.

Actually, that's not QUITE true. The reason it is being closed right now is because they have to completely rebuild the theater to enclose (and air condition) it because of the noise of Expedition Everest. Often when Disney has to rebuild a new theater, they redesign or replace the show going in. That, in combination with the fact that all focus is on a full-size Tarzan show on Broadway and that they are moving Tarzan Rocks to Hong Kong lead me to believe that the show is not being removed beacuse of lack of popularity. It was always packed every time I went. If Disney closed it because it was unpopular, than why is the under-attended Pocohantas still open?

I have to say that the first time I saw this show I did not like it. But in fareness I had seen FOTLK first and expected something more like that. We also went on the hottest day imaginable in the afternoon and I literally had heat exhaustion when I left the performance. That was in august 2004.

When we went last august I felt i had to give the show another chance. This time we went to the first show in the morning and i did not have any expectations. I really enjoyed the show. Although it doesnt (IMHO) tie in with the Tarzan movie as well as FOTLK ties in with Lion King I really enjoyed the music and stunts.

I am sorry that I will not get to see the show again. But I am very glad to hear they are enclosing the theater and airconditioning it. I wonder how many people were overcome by the heat during the many performances.

John

WOW JUST GOES TO SHOW.... Last time we were at the park our DD5 wanted to see Tarzan but wanted to skip the Lion King!

The male lead singer is Juan Cantu (my personal favorite). Here are a few links to sites that have information (including a link to his personal website):

I also found a firsthand report of one of the final performances:

Tarzan Rocks was my absolute favorite show. I went over the Animal Kindgom at least once a week to see it since August, as a matter of fact! I was fortunate enough to catch the 12:00 show (since I had to work right after, so I couldn't see the last one) on Saturday and it was one of the most moving pieces of theatre I have ever seen. The theatre was jam packed and the whole audience was VERY in to the performance. The show was top notch and it was extremely sad to see the performers getting teary-eyed on stage. I will never forget Juan (my favorite) unable to finish one of the final lines of the show because he started to get choked up. As the performance ended, I (as well as most of the theatre) leapt to my feet to give the show a standing ovation!

Add me to the list of those who are going to sorely miss Tarzan Rocks!

We went down in Dec to WDW and had gone to AK not knowing they were shutting down the show until later that night. We still had several days left on vacation and my BF and I decided we better go back and video it so we got it on video to enjoy for years to come.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion which is what these boards are designed for. Sure the show wasn't doing us any harm by being there, but by putting something better in it's place it will have an affect on me.

That said, no I did not like the show, yes it is my own opinion, no I didn't mean to sound rude...and Random Prince..those of us with opposing opinions certainly did get your attention.

I was told they closed the show because of the sound of the EE ride was going to be disturbing the show(kinda makes sense). So it wasnt about the popularity of the show.Or if the show was outdated.

This is what I heard by someone who works there.

I actually really enjoyed this show and am sad to see it close- my little guys would love it this year. I liked the whole rollerblade aspect of it and thought it was kind of clever to get the tarzan swing into a rollerblade ramp. Now FOTLK is one that I thought was just ok. I might see it again now that there is a/c. We had seen it twice on Broadway and everyone had built up the AK show that I may have been expecting too much. So are they replacing the show with something else? And come on those were some cuties in that show!

Did anyone see or hear about the last Tarzan Rocks show yesterday? I am curious since the lead actor was injured last week-

Who was the lead singer who was hurt? When we were there in Dec, we saw the show with a slightly older lead, on the tall side? He was awesome. I may have seen him written up in one of the last Disney Magazines. Anybody know the actors?

Michelle

While I didn't see the show myself, I believe the singer who was knocked down when Tarzan had "vine problems" was Billy Flannigan (sp?). He is the guy who was featured in a Disney Magazine article, I believe. He performed in the final show.

Thanks to TownCrier for posting the Juan links; he was my favorite lead singer in the show. I really miss Tarzan Rocks! :(

I really like Tarzan Rocks, my family had other views. They didn't like it as much as I did. My brother saw it when it was very hot out and said he was miserable and couldn't enjoy the show. I wish he'd have had a chance to see it in better weather! I will miss it. I hope they replace it with something really great!

Little did I know that the last time I saw it (my last WDW trip in Dec. 2004) would really be my *last* time.

I loved the show--especially the wonderful dancers! I, for one, preferred it to FOTLK and will miss it very much.

I never saw it. I am just curious what they will replace it with.
