Talk to me about the Coasters please

Oh, one of those "non-looping loops"

LOL
I get the snark, but you are actually correct. The photo you posted is a bit of an optical illusion. You are never upside down on this ride. You're not even in a shoulder harness, just a lap bar. It doesn't flip you.

If you can tolerate the initial drop, it is a breathtaking and exhilarating ride.

A bit ot to the original question but interesting nonetheless. Although in the world of Roller Coasters, just because you don't have a shoulder harness doesn't mean you won't go upside down. The Mauer Shone X-Cars used on HRRR are designed so you could go upside down. Here is a proof of concept video from Mauer Shone that should put peoples minds at ease about the vertical lift hill.

The cars for HRRR have been used for looping coasters outside the US. Here's a video of one from Germany.

In the United States, there are several coasters that have loops and lap bars. 2 examples are Scorpion and Busch Gardens Tamps

and Flight of Fear and Kings Island near Cincinnati Ohio.

It's a ride similar but not identical to Rock 'n' Roller Coaster and about 3 years older and RnR. It originally had shoulder harnesses but they changed it to lap bars in 2001.

Hulk THROWS you out of the lift hill! (it's very fun if you're a thrill-seeker)
Dragon Challenge is okay. Try both sides if the wait is short enough.
Hippogriff is a very tame coaster. My mother rode it with me, and she's too chicken to go on bigger coasters (but rides Space Mountain, Big Thunder, and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at Disney... she skips RnRC and Everest because of the backwards movement).

Never got to do RRR or Woody Woodpecker (a friend of mine who works at Universal said he didn't like the feeling of the first hill on RRR, it made him uncomfortable).

Add the Sooper Dooper Looper in Hershey Park, PA to the list of coasters that go upside down with only a lap bar. It has only one loop though.

I can do the hippogriff with no problem. My daughter has said no way to HRRR. We will have to see it in person before totally writing off. I told her we are doing the Dragon Challenge and she thinks I am crazy. Yet, she thinks she is going on Hulk bc she did RnRC at DHS without a problem. How do those two compare?

In the meantime my hubby will just be sitting on a bench or looking in shops bc he can barely tolerate BTMRR!

I have done all of the coasters once or twice, but am not a big coaster girl anymore (was once in my younger years). I usually get the "I don't want to ride alone" sob story and end up riding every now and again. Mummy I can handle and doesn't give me any problems. I actually like the Mummy quite a bit. Hulk I will never do again no matter what... just too jarring. The dragons have in the past made me feel sick (my teenage son too). If I sit near the front and see where we are going, it is a bit better. Surprisingly, HRRR has never made me feel bad although after learning that the back gives me problems on the dragons, I've always requested the front. I would pick RRR over the Dragons any day... maybe because you don't go upside down.

And for a Disney comparison, I have done them all and they don't compare. Hulk, Dragon and RRR are all much more intense in my book.

Very informative....thank you!

Just wanted to update everyone. Over the weekend, I loaded up on Bonine and Gin Gin Candy and rode Great Bear in Hershey (it's similar to Dragon Challenge). I got a little loopy in the head, but overall I was fine! Dragon Challenge, here I come!! :yay: I am now considering HRRR. I *think* I might be able to handle it since it doesn't go upside down. I just want to wait until later in the day in case I am overconfident and its too much.

I have ridden a ridiculous amount of coasters in my time but not RRR (will be in a few days) but I can tell you that RRR looks like a much easier ride to go on for noncoaster people than Dragon's Challenge. The only exception being the vertical lift. That is the only part I think that scares people away otherwise its a very simple straightforward coaster.

My son who likes coasters but they have to be simple ones i.e. up and down with some turns (basically smaller woodies) will not do RRR which I am sure he would like only because of the lift hill.

Look it over and think about it when you get there, something tells me you would like it so long as you can get past the vertical lift.

The one thing I would say about RRR is ignore the usual warning about head back. This is a fairly bumpy coaster, if you try to keep your head back you will come off having had it thumped repeatedly. We stay back till the top of the main hill, then lean forward so our heads aren't in contact with the seat at all. We love this coaster, though, it is one of our faves.

There have been plenty of discussions about the "screen" rides and one of the last threads was very helpful in helping me determine which ones I should skip.

Can I get a rundown on the Coasters? I find the US website very tedious to look through. Plus, you guys are much more entertaining! :teeth: I can take wooden coasters. I can handle mild coasters. Upside down, super fast, and crazy drops.... not so much . I have NOT been on RNRC or EE at Disney, so don't use them as comparison. I have been on BTMRR, SM, and Barnstormer (or whatever its called now). If there are any Jersey/ PA peeps here, I have been to Hershey Park and Great Adventure, so you use those coasters.

I know.... it would be easy to see when I get there whether or not I can handle the coaster, but I'd like to know beforehand what I should plan to do or not do.

Which ones go upside-down? Which ones are crazy fast or have crazy drops?

I found Revenge of the Mummy to be somewhat comparible to SM. But the Hulki does go upside down and is very intense. Nothing you went on will compare in intensity. Dueling Dragons is also intense as is Rip It Coaster at regular Universal. Those are the main coasters at Universal.
