Plus it means another solo trip.....:rolleyes1

The one big red flag is that it's peak season for resort rates. But, I'll only be going for a few days, so I think that even without any discount I could make it work. I probably wouldn't do the dining plan this time (even the QS plan) because I can eat for pretty cheap if I really try.

Anywho, the gears in my head, they are a turnin'!

Ok y'all.....two words: Half. Marathon.

I am SO inspired by our gal Tink and her plan to do the Princess Half Marathon at Disney next winter.....I'm already making great progress with my running; I can't not do this!

I have never been a runner. (tennis was my sport in HS& college).. (now it's just keeping up with the kids. wish I had a chance to do something for myself again... Exactly how long is a 1/2 marathon.?? I really don't know. and how exactly do you get yourself started, and ready for one?
I pulled out the Wii Active 30 day challenge again. :yay: It seemed to help last year, but, then I just stopped doing it when the kids went back to school, and I was consumed with too much activities and helping with homework, etc. . I feel the pounds creeping back:scared1: I just started again, but the results are slow.

Why is it Monday again?

I started running this past winter when I got to the point of absolute disgust with my weight and physique. I got to thinking that the fittest people I know are runners. So I started. Slowly, but I kept it up.

A half marathon is around 13.5 miles. The one at Disney goes from Epcot, to the MK, up Main St. and around the Hub, then back to Epcot. I've looked up training plans on-line and have found several good ones; they typically start about 12 weeks prior to your race day, so I'll just keep up what I'm doing now, until then, and then start real "training." By 12 weeks out, I'll also know for sure whether or not I can afford the trip!;)

Spoken like a true kimmar......

kimmar--I think they are in Genessee county?

They are East (I think) of Geneseo. They live in a little town--Mt. Morris.

TK--Planning is half the fun! If you make a decision too early, then you aren't having enough fun, lol.

Sadiedog--Sounds like a great day.

daisyyy--I gotcha with the Monday. I came into work do write a couple of IEPs only to find out that the electrical storm yesterday had knocked out the lights in the schools. I just was able to turn on the computer, because the generator will not run the electrical sockets (or the air conditioning and the heat index is already 100). I spent all morning cleaning out the closet in my classroom instead with my full "office attire" on.

Legomom--I wouls love to run a half marathon. Of course, I can't even think of stepping out in the oppressive heat right now. We are having heat indexes of around 110 every day.

That leaves plenty of time to make more spreadsheets. ;)

That's right!

My dear friend (or as younger people say, my BFF :lmao:) is here with her family renting a place on the lake. Wonderful to see them and a great escape from reality.

Oh, have a good time! I'm happy, you need some relaxation. :goodvibes

Well, yes, as SadieDog pointed out, you DO have time for more spreadsheets!;) While I do put lots of time and detailed effort into my trip planning, I can't say that using a spreadsheet is something I've ever tried! How does that work for you?

I love it. I love being able to compare the total cost of one resort vs another, annual passes v. myw tickets, dining plan v. oop. It's just perfect for my OCD brain.

Wow are you really thinking of going then???? I'm so excited! I might get to see Tink and you cross the finish line? WOO HOO!!! :goodvibes

Thank you for the info. I was really curious as to the route, and where the runners end up. Do you think if you're watching someone finish the race that you have to have a park ticket, or is it all done so early that it's not necessary? Just curious.

One of the reasons I love the DIS. The innate love of planning. :lmao:

And........

.....just like that I have changed my mind. For next year, anyway. No Princess Half Marathon.

I'm taking a cue from TK here, actually. Something I've always wanted to do is take my dad to Animal Kingdom. He would LOVE it. He can't tolerate going in the heat, so he's never been able to meet us on one of our Sept. family trips. And I usually take a long weekend in either Jan. or Feb. to go see him. This past winter with his heart surgery and all that, was a big scare. Life is too short to keep putting these things off. And my budget just won't allow for me to fly twice in that short of a time frame, to be able to do both.

So, Lord willing, I'm going to take my usual long weekend to stay with my dad, and surprise him with a day up at AK. He can't do any rides, but there are so many walking trails, and he can take in Festival of the Lion King and Finding Nemo the Musical if he wants. The park is just so full of detail to take in, and then there's always taking pictures of his grown-up daughter with the characters...

:rotfl2:

LegoMom, what a wonderful idea!

And I'm sure your dad will love the Animal Kingdom, that'll be an awesome park to explore together.

Gosh... I never do spreadsheets.. I think I'm missing something. Now I feel the urge to do one, and make sure I'm getting the best deal for our trip.... UhOh.. what if I'm not... then I'll start to over analyze it.. I think it's too late to change it. I've got a migraine again, and I'm on the dis... I should just go to bed.. It must be the heat.

Oh.. did any of you go to TS3 yet? my DDs went this weekend, and loved it... the rest of us haven't gone yet we had a wedding ,grad parties and swim meets, but I'd like to go this week, or weekend with the boys.

You are some extreme planners! I'm more of a make some general plans (food) then fly by the seat of my pants.

Well, *pfft!*...yeah!!.....YOU get to go all the time! :snooty:

:lmao:

.

True. But I do that with all my vacations. Make a few general plans, usually involving where to eat, then figure the rest out as we go.

I also discovered -- with much glee -- that the best place to eat at AK with my dad will be Flame Tree!!! In browsing the menus on AllEars, they have a sliced turkey sandwich on multi-grain bread, and that's something he can eat (diet is strict now after the heart surgery).

And I can just revel in the wonderfulness of my pulled pork BBQ sandwich with a side of beans and Key Lime mousse for dessert.......

Now, see, I guess I'm just a die-hard planner. I haven't ventured into things like, say, spread sheets.....:rolleyes1....but to me, lots of planning is half the fun! We're hoping next year to take a road trip, up through Colorado, into Wyoming and up to Yellowstone Nat'l Park. I'm already looking at maps and travel guides!! Got one in the mail today, matter of fact, from Manitou Springs, CO (just outside Colorado Springs).

Can't wait!!:yay:

My whole planning for the surprise cruise this Summer was booking it, getting my friend to join us, booking Palo's for dinner and brunch, and the big one for me - starting the Fish Extender exchange for the DIS. It's a small cruise group.

Hi everyone.

Had a nice afternoon yesterday. My friend treated the 3 of us (my daughter included) to pedicures. To save a good amount of $, my daughter suggested we go to the beauty school. Spa pedicures are only $15.

Not sure what we will do today. Cold front has moved in for the rest of the week and we might get more rain today. Last year when they came for my daughters graduation, it rained every day. Now it's either rain or below average temps. They don't seem to mind considering in TN it's so hot they can't even be outside.

LegoMom, great idea taking your Dad to AK.
