You know the old saying, "You learn something new every day." Well, around here it goes, "You see something new every day."

For example: we all know there are armadillos here on a nightly basis. The other day, a Black-bellied Whistling Duck showed up in the pond. This afternoon two different kinds of turtles swam to the dock to investigate the commotion made by the fish as I fed them bread, and a short time later I saw a Red fox bound through the overgrown horse pasture!

Since we've been here, we've also seen two Roadrunners, a Blue Grosbeak, Great Egrets, Green Herons, and the most ginormous Great Blue Heron EVER.

Not to mention the herd of Fallow deer, two antelope, two Watusi cows, and six donkeys that all live on the camp property....

I feel like Mean Queen's tag: "A whole zoo!"
:rotfl2:

.

Wow, wow and wow!!!! That is awesome!!!!! :thumbsup2 I love turtles. You are gonna have to keep me updated on them. I rescue turtles from the roads around here and bring them home and turn them loose near our creek. :)

:scared1::lmao::sad1: How do you know that they don't do windows? Have you checked with the UNAAE? (United National Association of Armadillos Everywhere) You should check their Union guidelines. :thumbsup2

Is that what you got for your birthday? :rotfl2::lmao::rotfl:

...no - actually, I got the hat that the armadillo is wearing.....AND, of course, the toilet brush...

Good morning!

Happy Friday!!
:banana::banana:

Gee whiz where IS everyone?? I hope y'all have a great day! Weekend's here!! I've got to head into town for groceries before the road washes out...we had RAIN last night (2.5" in the gauge!) and more on the way.

Have a Babnanarific day!!!!!!!!

PaMom.....I figure you out of everyone would understand my love of Christmas decorations. :sad2: You work in a Hallmark store. You HAVE TO UNDERSTAND.

I don't mind Christmas. I do DESPISEChristmas music. Halloween is my holiday.

Adding to "the Zoo":

DH just had to run over to camp on the 4-wheeler. On the way out he had to stop to let SIX armadillos cross the trail!!!....:lmao:

Then, when he got back, he went over to check the rain gauge and was confronted by an opossum in the bushes, just sitting there looking out at him! Those poor creatures look like a drowned rat anyway....all this rain wasn't helping it!:rotfl2:

Oh my.....such is life in the wilds of Texas I guess, huh?!

.

LegoMom, I enjoy hearing about the wildlife. I'd love to see all those creatures. Well, not the spiders and scorpions. :scared1:
Good luck with your sons. My daughter was awful to my son too many times to count. She could be so mean. Now at times, they are great friends. Not sure if they are ready to admit that yet though. :rotfl2:

[ Did I tell ya'll that I had 14 trees up last year? And one of them had over 600 mercury glass bulbs on it. :):):)

 Wow, I just don't know what to say. :rotfl:
One would need a big house to have that many trees. Also a large storage area to hold all the decorations.

Good morning ya''ll. :goodvibes I'm so glad its Saturday. :goodvibes

PaMom......How can you not like Christmas music? :scared1:

LegoMom....A wet opossum. :rotfl2:

SadieDog.....I can put a Christmas tree anywhere. :rotfl:And I have been known to do it. :rolleyes1

I hope ya'll all have a great day. :grouphug:

I don't even know what to say about Legomom's zoo in her backyard.

14 Trees, Smileybug? Are you certain it's not a McMansion?

I love Christmas music. Sorry you don't, PAMom.

Dh and I are coaching for recreation football--well, dh is coaching football, I have 35 screaming cheerleaders. I think I'll have the cheerleading job forever--it got out that I'm safety certified to coach cheerleading.

Good morning ya''ll. :goodvibes I'm so glad its Saturday. :goodvibes

In your bathroom?......:confused3

Good morning everyone!

SadieDog - I think I must have some internal magnet for wildlife....When we were in NH, I used to see Black bears all the time. DH never saw them! Right place at the right time, I guess. The one thing I always wanted to see but never did was moose.

creativeamanda
- yep, sounds like you're pegged with that job for life! :rotfl:

We got another 2" of rain yesterday. That's about 4" in the last 36 hours. SO badly needed! More coming today. I got my groceries yesterday and coming home, there were streams of water running down both sides. Our driveway was a mess! We don't have to go out today which is probably just as well.

My goal today is finish organizing my desk space and get my scrapbookin' groove on!!:cool1: I haven't done that since we left NH.....

.

Legomom--I think you should charge admission to your zoo. . .another Disney trip money making scheme. . .

And I am willing to bet Smileybug has a Christmas tree in the toilet.

No Christmas trees in the toilet. But on the back of the toilet..... :rolleyes1

Legomom....I'm really glad ya'll are getting rain. I just hope it isn't causing any problems.

I had to go grocery shopping today. I DO NOT LIKE GOING ON SATURDAYS. But today wasn't so bad.

Didn't there used to be a devil smiley? I think I need one. :rotfl:

I love Christmas music. Sorry you don't, PAMom.

I guess I hear too much of it considering that it starts the beginning of November and lasts through December. There are only so many ways to do the same songs. The same songs play over, and over, and over, and over again, and again, and again, and again. Now, Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer and spoof songs I like. I also love Trans Siberian Orchestra.

We love TSO in our house! Coolest music ever. But other than that, I'm the opposite of you - I hate the spoof songs and if I hear "Dominic the Donkey" one more time in my life, I'm gonna barf.....:crazy2: However, I try not to listen to the radio during that time frame....I agree they DO play the same stuff over and over and over again. I've got a nice collection of CDs that I like and I shuffle those around.

I have not, however, ever had a Christmas tree in my bathroom, let alone the back of my toilet!!

:rotfl:

The Zoo saga continues.....

So I went outside a short time ago to give the dog a snack and play with him for a few minutes before calling it a night. I was listening to the frogs out on the pond when all of a sudden this "scream" came out of the woods over by the barn (probably 150 feet from the house). Every hair on my body stood on end, I kid you not..... It was LOUD. I went to the house and called DH outside and told him "I think the Jersey Devil lives out here!!" We listened, and heard it again but not as loud or intense as I'd first heard it.
The dog went and stood behind him.... DH called his boss to ask what might make that kind of sound. NO idea. Although, no, wait...there are panthers coming up from Mexico and are spotted in this part of Texas now and then.... Oh. Panthers. Lovely. Honey, should we bring the outdoor-not-house-trained-dog IN for the night??! Right about now I'm starting to wonder why I haven't seen any of the neighborhood dogs in almost 36 hours...

DH and I came in and got on the Internet and started a search for animal sounds. We tried raccoons. Nope, not that. We tried panthers/jaguars. Thankfully, not that either. It was right about here that the dog erupted in a fury of barking. He does NOT bark! Ever! DH ran to the door and opened it to see what was setting him off....It was my armadillo......:headache: But it shows you how wigged out the dog was by the "scream!" Usually he ignores the armadillos. Suffice it to say, the scorpions and spiders have been given a reprieve tonight. Thanks a lot, Tucker.

Anywho, by way of deduction we finally determined that the noise was made by a Bobcat!! Not as threatening as a panther, but you just don't want to hear one after dark, y'know?!!

You just never know around here......

.

Good morning everyone.

LegoMom, love the wildlife stories. I saw moose tracks in my brother's woods 2 days ago, but we have not seen the moose. I would work on house training the puppy so when he comes in, you don't have to worry about that too. You can focus on finding out what creature is lurking. :rotfl:

I like singing along to Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer as well as many others. I don't know Trans Siberian Orch.
