Switching Use Year points in reservations?

I've searched the boards and read quite a few post on cancelling a reservation and reusing points with different use year , but I just want to make sure if I have it right I have a Dec U/Y

Right now I have Jan 07 ressie with banked 2005 and some of 2006 points and I also have an Aug 07 ressie. In order to complete Aug 07 ressie I used rest of 2006 and then borrowed points from 2007.

If I cancel my first day in January I get back 41 points that I could use for an additional room ( with the rest of my 2007 points ) in Aug BUT if I decide I want to cancel the additional room and I have used points from 05 , 06 and or 07 , I Can switch these into my main August ressie and then bank any 2006 using up all of my 2005 and 2007 points .

This will work if I HAD to do this , am I correct. I hope I explained this out properly and THANK YOU for helping me through this!

Some of the answer will depend on when you would cancel the reservation and where you are in your banking deadlines at that time.

Are both reservations at your home resort? That could also play a role in what you will be allowed to do.

You state that you have a Dec UY - but are asking about using points from a second UY? What is the second UY and are all of the points at the same resort? ... or by "different use year" do you mean 2005, 2006 and 2007? (If that's your meaning, they are all actually in the 2006 UY . The 05 and 07 points cannot be moved - only the 2006 points could be banked into the following year.)

In some situations (mostly if the reservation was reserved at your home resort), you would need to cancel and rebook a reservation in order to reallocate points- especially if they are coming from different contracts and Use Years and more so if they are from different resorts. If there were already a waitlist, you might lose the reservation.

In other situations, you would be able to use points from the cancelled reservation for the later reservation. If you really mean that all points involved are from your one contract (Dec. UY) then you will probably be able to what you suggest. Banked and Borrowed points still reside within only one Use Year (the year into which they were moved) - so you are not really using points from multiple Use Years - those points cannot be moved to another UY.

It sounds like you will be able to use those points for either reservation and bank any freed up 2006 points. Banking/Borrowing and reservation changes are among the more confusing aspects of DVC membership.

and yes that is what I meant I have one 200 point contract with a DEC U/Y and all ressies are at Home resort . All total the three ressies ave less than the 600 points for bank borrow and such I would be canceling before my last 100% deadline of May 31

In that case, I would call MS and have them allocate as many of your banked and borrowed points to your January '07 reservation...you want to use them first. This would leave you using most, if not all, '06 UY points for your August '07 reservation.
