Surf and Turf Disney Style…..30 days of food on land and at sea! 06/16 WPE

Wow does all your Dream food sound...well...dreamy! I would particularly love those ravioli. :thumbsup2

I really enjoyed those ravioli as well! We were shown how to make them at "Anyone Can Cook". They are made from wonton wrappers! We have the recipe. Haven't attempted them myself yet though!

They are wonderful, aren't they?
I really wanted to go and see the cooking presentation as well, but we never made it to it (and we stayed on for 3 cruises in a row :rotfl2:).
I would never have guessed that it is made with a wonton wrapper. Cannot wait to have them again in February! :cloud9:

With every review and post you do on your cruises you are getting us closer and closer to booking one!!!:goodvibes

Hm, I have a lot of cruise reviews coming up ...... does that mean you could be booking more than one cruise? :rotfl2: just kidding! :goodvibes
I got your PM and am going to answer after I have finished updating here! :thumbsup2

Maybe you should show the pics to Mark .... would that get him into the mood of going on a Disney cruise?
The food was really good this summer - I cannot wait to go back and get another helping. ;)

Day 10, August 22

Royal Palace

This cruise we were determined to have as many table service meals as possible (Tom and I are not huge fans of buffets) and so we decided to try the Royal Palace for breakfast.
We were greeted at the entrance and led to a nice table.

A server came by almost immediately, handed us the menus and took our drinks orders.

Tom ordered some coffee and I ordered some

IMG_1159.jpg

Hot Tea and Orange juice. They have a large array of teas to choose from, so I was really happy.

While we waited for our drinks another server came by and offered some breakfast patries. There were different kinds of Danish, croissants and muffins and some doughnuts. We didn't feel like a pastry for breakfast and the server went on to present his tray to another table.

It didn't take long for our breakfast to arrive. Tom wanted to try

IMG_1164.jpg

The Big Breakfast, a large filled omelet on savory toast with grilled tomatoes, bacon and baked beans topped with caramelized onions. Now, first off, this was HUGE. And it was tasty. There was a nice slice of bread topped with quite a large omelet which was filled with baked beans, which we both love. The bacon could have been a bit crispier, but it all went very well together. I could not believe it, but he finished the whole thing!

Now, I had been reading the menus before we had even left Austria and I knew what I wanted,

IMG_1161.jpg

the Traditional Eggs Benedict, a Toasted English muffin with grilled Canadian bacon, served with a poached egg topped with hollandaise sauce, grilled roma tomatoes and a sausage link. Now let me start with the sausage - I do NOT like the American breakfast sausages and this one was no exception - I tasted it and then left the rest of it. BUT the rest of the breakfast was just wonderful. The eggs were cooked just right and oozed out onto the meat and muffin and the Hollandaise was nicely spiced and even the tomato was well seasoned. We both REALLY enjoyed our breakfast!

Next up - Cabanas lunch

More great updates Karin :goodvibes

I also tried the sea bass from Enchanted Garden and it was probably my favourite entree of the cruise :cloud9:

Looking forward to hearing more popcorn::

Thank you, Linda!

Tom was really happy with the sea bass too! I think he even had it a second time during our b2b cruises.

More coming up shortly, I promise! :thumbsup2

I really think he has a fear of being "stuck" on a boat. He doesn't seem to understand the boat we'd be "stuck" on. :rotfl: Maybe next year... I also would not be opposed to do the New England itinerary out of New York at some point, just to try out cruising. I know it wouldn't be aboard the Dream, though.

Well, you know I share your feelings about buffets. :thumbsup2 And you got Eggs Benedict? What a surprise. :lmao: Actually, I like eggs benedict almost as much.

I am so enjoying your reviews. We cruise on the Dream in three months and I am scream-in-my-pillow excited !! So it is nice to see how everything is on the boat.

Guess what, Tina! I can really relate to Mark's fear of being stuck on a boat! :goodvibes That was my biggest fear before we cruised for the first time too. I was so happy to have friends there as I was sure I would be bored to death with nothing to do ...... but I was

WRONG, oh, so WRONG!!! :lmao: :rotfl2:

Maybe you should try a 3 night cruise, so you'll see that there is no way you would feel "stuck" on a boat. You spend your day exploring an exciting destination (Castaway Cay :cloud9: ) and spend your nights in a "hotel" - well, this hotel moves, but you could call it a "hotel".

And yip! I had a lot of Eggs Benedict this trip! :lmao: First off, I really love them - they are not common around here, so I have to get my fair share on vacation.

I am so happy you enjoy them! I was not sure if I should post all the cruise food, but then there are so many people now, who combine WDW and cruising so I thought it might be interesting to some! :thumbsup2
And if you want to read more about cruising - my TR is just coming to the cruise part, so you might enjoy that as well.
Are you on a 3 or 4 night cruise? The DREAM is just so beautiful and we enjoyed our summer trip so much ..... going back in 7 weeks and 2 days ...... can you see that we are in love with the DREAM? ;) :lmao:

Day 10, August 22

Cabanas lunch

We spent the morning in Nassau and when we got back on the ship it was too late to eat at the Royal Palace again so we decided to give Cabanas a try.
And even at 1.30pm it was crowded. The food was plentyful and fresh though.

One other thing ....... I had read that the idea was that you walked up to a particular counter and picked what you wanted, then left again ....... well when we were there you got in line and walked along all the stations no matter if you wanted something or not.

So, here are our plates.

IMG_1194.jpg

IMG_1195.jpg

Green leaves and dressing, nothing special to say about it

IMG_1196.jpg

Snapper with olive tapanade - yummy, but just lukewarm

IMG_1197.jpg

Rosemary and thyme polenta cakes - very yummy, but nearly cold - what a shame

IMG_1198.jpg

Baked feta stuffed zucchini - very yummy, but only just lukewarm

IMG_1199.jpg

Shrimps with sweet capsiums - they were cold to begin with, but they were juicy and well cooked! :thumbsup2

And yes, I did have a second plate :lmao:

IMG_1205.jpg

I had more of the salad and I love buttered peas, so there you have it!

IMG_1206.jpg

Pennette bolognaise - again, very nice, pasta cooked al dente, sauce well flavoured, but not hot enough!

IMG_1207.jpg

I had to wait for the pizza to get out of the oven, so it was the "hottest" thing on the plate. Nothing special, rather hard thicker crust - tomatoes were fresh and fragrant and the cheese nice and creamy, but nothing to write home about.

On to Tom's plate

IMG_1200.jpg

First off he tried the Sushi, which he enjoyed very much

IMG_1208.jpg

Some mussels, shrimp and meatloaf - his only complaint was that nothing was really hot enough ..... can you see a trend here? This is basically why I do not like buffets - until you are at your table, everything has cooled down too much.

IMG_1210.jpg

He had a lot of the same things I had, like the pizza, the Baked feta stuffed zucchini, the fish with the olive tapanade, the Rosemary polenta and he had thought about getting some cocktail sauce for the shrimp - which was very nice! :thumbsup2

IMG_1211.jpg

He also had some fries and vegetables.

IMG_1212.jpg

For dessert I tried some pumpkin pie, which I really enjoyed as it was not too sweet and the small portion was just enough.

IMG_1213.jpg

I got Tom some fruit - he loves melon - I don't, so he ate that and I had all the pineapple underneath - I love them, he doesn't care too much for them! ;)

So here you have it ..... lunch at Cabanas

Next up - Royal Palace dinner

So... would you say you didn't care much for this meal because it was luke warm? I had never thought about buffets like that... but you are right the food is never all that hot is it?

yey to "guest of honor" fastpasses :yay: at least there was recognition that the wait and service were not up to scratch. I do like the look of those steaks at yachtsman and le cellier. I do agree le cellier for lunch. Denny's was one of our first american dining experiences, nothing to rave about but does hit the spot and you know it's a reliable diner, the reason we first tried it was that DBIL has the same name. Tacos and Karamelle Kuche snacks look delicous I look forward to visitng both. I missed out on thr fun of the advent calendar:sad2: Really enjoying your dream updates so far, what a lovely arrival gift.

There are a few things why we don't like buffets .... one of them is that I have to serve myself :lmao:
The food on the plate never looks really nice because you just "pile" things on, so that's another reason.
People hovering over you when looking for a table - we love to eat in peace and take our time (that's how it works in Europe) and I often feel like at a speed eating contest.
Ond the thing I hate most is that the food NEVER is really hot when I get to the table.
Don't get me wrong - the food at Cabanas was very nice, tasty and it looked really good too, but yes - I think having luke warm food turned us off.

Hi! Welcome back! :thumbsup2
Yes, the guest of honor fastpass really made up for the slow service. We had not expected anything, so it was really special.
When you next go to Karamelle Kuche, try the caramel popcorn - it is devine! :goodvibes
And as far as the advent calendar - I promise there will be another one next year - you just have to stick with me! :rotfl2:
We were blown away by the generosity of our friends this year. We just couldn't believe Stefy and Dave's gift - it was really appreciated! :goodvibes

Everything looks good...but you know how I feel about buffets. :lmao:

I hear you on the buffets, sister! :thumbsup2

I am definitely following your TR. Very enjoyable as well. Can't wait to read more.

My father would never go to buffets. He said that if he had to get the food, he may as well stay home!:thumbsup2

I know what you mean about the speed eating. Our oldest son had to spend four months in Toronto a few years ago learing how to run Tim Horton's restaurants. He noticed that when people ate out in Toronto dinner took hours even at the buffets that he went to. That was quite a different dining out experience than he was used to.

OMG back to more food those pictures are amazing the food looks simply delicous . I still think we should do things backwards next time since food is luke warm you should try dessert first !!:lmao::cool1: then start the meal .

and Happy New Year to you and Tom :wizard:

Happy New Year Karin! Hope you and Tom have a good one and I can't wait to see your 2012 adventures! :goodvibes

Happy New Year!!!
Thanks for the latest review :)
A real pet hate of mine is food that isn't hot enough, shame that Cabanas wasn't great
I'm sure that when we were on The Dream you just jumped in at the food station you wanted to try and didn't have to line up and go through everything ??

Happy New Year! I have been following your review and finally decided to post. I love all your reviews for both land and sea. The food looks awesome and it keeps me attached to my favorite place while I wait for my turn to go back to my favorite happy place. I wish I could go for a month. That would put me on :cloud9: Thanks again, really enjoying your reviews.
